The Boston Task Force on Reparations called on "White churches" to step up and pay the Black community back for racial inequities that root back to the trans-Atlantic slave trade, according to reports.
The Boston Globe reported that Black and White clergy members met in Roxbury for a press conference intended to be held outside, though it was instead held in the basement of the Resurrection Lutheran Church on Saturday because of rain.
The commission was established through a 2022 Boston City Council ordinance and made up of 10 members, including two from the youth community.
In February, the Boston activists called for the city to "fully commit to writing checks" and for a $15 billion payout since the city's wealth was built on slavery.

They were usually tied to the land but could be bought and sold by owners who had absolute rights to punish, approve marriage, break up families, assign their duties, choose them for house servant, skilled laborers or work them to death in the fields, etc.... Most lived a short, miserable life but lucky few rose upward and were occasionally set free. Just like American slaves.

Not quite. The eastern states like SC, VA, and NC essentially became entrenched in selling their slaves to settlers in the West. Cotton ruined the ground in a couple of decades and so the high prices being brought from King Cotton led to demands that slavery be expanded to Western territories that had amenable climates for its propagation. In Russia, "serf" didn't mean what it did in W Europe; that is, they were effectively slaves. I have read that this was a late development; that generally serfdom spread and the status of serfs fell in E Europe just as it was dying, and their status rising, in W Europe. In the established slave states on the East Coast, slavery essentially acted as illegal immigration did--it destroyed the value of white laborers, tradesmen, and artisans. So they moved either North or West--sometimes both in response. So you got the same economy as Latin America and about the same politics in slave states. Very rich landed people with slaves, poor whites driven to parts of the state not amenable to slave plantation economies, and slaves.

As you went west, the less settled states were more open but the seaboard states had economies that were like California's. They were driving everyone productive out by the slave economy.

Britain did not have slavery in the British Islands and when a test case came up, the British Court systems in Somerset v Stuart ruled that while slavery might be allowed in British colonies, it could not exist on the Home Islands as contrary to natural law. The ruling is partly commemorated in Rule Brittania. I think slavery ended after lobbying by a former slave trader turned Christian--same guy that wrote Amazing Grace, and others in 1832.

At the time of the Civil War, both British and US warships were off the coast of Africa looking to intercept slave trader ships and return the people back to their societies.

What makes you think a "day" at the time of Creation is the same amount of time it takes our planet to spin around once? Our understanding of a "day" is entirely Earth-centric. I doubt the Creator of the Universe marks time based on how long our little planet takes to revolve. Genesis is full of allegory and symbolism.
