Disney Throws In the Towel; Agrees That Reedy Creek Is No Longer Their Private Corporate Feifdom

The leftwing media has been misinforming its diminishing number of readers for ~~a year~~ two years now, claiming that Disney's legal case to compel a state government to grant it at special, unique benefit no other company is granted, was a strong one.

See, Disney has a First Amendment right to control its own county!

The propaganda media has insisted for a year that The Walls Are Closing In For DeathSantis.

Via Ed Morrissey: the enemy-of-the-people media will now to explain how they got this so wrong, and explain why Disney, who had such an immensely strong legal case, just agreed to drop its claims of a perpetual corporate right to the Reedy Creek area.

Actually, I lied: The media is claiming that this is a draw and Disney got a "settlement."

AP:

Allies of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney reached a settlement agreement Wednesday in a lawsuit over who controls Walt Disney World's governing district.
In a meeting, the members of the board of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District approved the settlement agreement, ending almost two years of litigation that was sparked by DeSantis' takeover of the district from Disney supporters following the company's opposition to Florida's so-called "Don't Say Gay" law.

Morrissey points out that this "settlement" consists of Disney dropping its claims to own the Reedy Creek Improvement District, in exchange for the new body controlling that area not continuing to sue Disney over its illegal actions to keep its filthy claws on the property.

The Tampa Free Press describes this settlement more accurately.

Remember, before the Reedy Creek Improvement District was dissolved, the corrupt Disney pawns controlling it quickly passed "rules" declaring that Disney owned the area forever and ever and no act of the state could ever, ever disturb this perpetual ownership.

Disney now admits that those new "rules" were bullshit.

In exchange, the current government of the region agrees that it won't continue suing Disney for its corrupt skulduggery.

AP thinks this is a win for Disney.

Most of my family lives in Florida, I love visiting them but cannot wait to leave.

I was on a project in Doral for four months during the wort of the summer, we all had apartments with attached unconditioned garages, by the time I left my apartment to the time I stepped foot into the car, I was drenched in sweat, then you spend the next 30 minutes driving to site, park, get out of your car, get soaking wet again, then spend 10-12 hours in an air conditioned studio, and repeat the same process going back to your apartment.

I think Obama won in no small part due to fraud in 2012 (Broward County in FL alone can account for most of his lead in the electoral college). Electrical problems on ships are pretty common (salt water and electronics don't mix well) and this ship in particular apparently had a history of them. You can see the diesel engine start up and get set to full throttle almost immediately when the power comes back on the last time before it hit the bridge.

Also, someone on Twitter dug up a book that mentions that the Coast Guard had an active betting pool on a ship hitting the Key bridge when it first opened, so what happened wasn't unforseen.

Bummer. Honestly, this is sort of a typical sweetheart deal giant corps and major Party players get all the time.

If you aren't on/very near the coast, hurricanes are mostly just an inconvenience (power's out for a day or 3). But yes, insurance rates should be tied to the risk. Ditto for Tornado Alley, mudslides/wildfires in Cali, and various other places with fairly frequent problems.

The flood-insurance and disaster-relief programs are completely fucked up and it's mainly the result of fed intervention on behalf of favored constituents and to fuck unfavored ones. There are people in landlocked areas with no perceivable flood risk paying tens of thousands of dollars a year on mandatory flood policies. Then there are huge oceanfront estates directly in the path of hurricanes that pay less than that. It's a total clusterfuck. By design.

I think it usually doesn't matter but Palin definitely brought in a ton from sadsack McCain. That landslide would have been epic and instead it was just embarrassing.

Hi. Me again. There are weather issues in a lot of states. We have had companies refuse and drop people who have never made a claim in over 30 years. Now Sally hit hard in 2020, but it didn’t lay every single house to rubble. And there have been years with nothing or low cat hurricanes. Houses here are now built to a gold standard - ability to withstand a cat 5. Should we pay more? Yeah, just like those in Tornado Alley. But it’s gotten ridiculous.

But none of this is Ron or Memaws fault. Our issue is insurance companies themselves.

Newt Gingrich had a column the other day---despite his lack of wisdom on the policy front--he was/is a historian. He discussed how Al Smith went from supporting FDR as governor to hating his guts as president for transforming the Dem party. He then uses that an a comparison with the Trump GOPe split. A lot of the elite GOP hate is simply because Trump for better or worse is transforming the GOP party from the bottom up.

A lot of teh GOPe wanted to be in the establishment and now they find that establishment is the worst thing one can do in the newer more populist GOP. That is why they are fighting a losing rearguard action and the Ronna Romney types are finding out whatever compromises they did for the Establishment won't get repaid. Lot of anxiety over that one.

358 I think the boat crash was a true accident due to the ship power failure. Winds were pushing the ship southerly. You can see the lights go off, the ship twisting towards the south (towards the camera). Then, when the power blinked back on, black smoke from the stack, probably the engines starting up again.

Also, when the lights went back on, only some of them were up. Sam Mercogliano speculates that was an emergency generator.

Power went off again, and when it was restored, you can see the ship just start to turn to port before it crashed.

So, I am thinking it was an unfortunate accident.

Having seen SW, TESB and ROTJ contemporaneously and living through the paradigm shifting zeitgeist of it all, I went into the prequels wanting that same experience, it didn't deliver exactly that, but I enjoyed the films none the less.

I owned Disney stock a few years ago, but I sold it a while back. I don't know how I got targeted for the ad. The YouTube video I was watching had nothing to do with Disney.
