Is This Something?

Allegedly, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been offered the role of James Bond.

If you're wondering who that is, join the club. He played "Kick Ass," appeared as one of the main characters in the first Godzilla, played one of the assassins in Bullet Train, and played Quicksilver in the Marvel movie Avengers: Age of Ultron.

He's also in the upcoming Spider-Man Universe Without Spider-Man movie, Kraven the Hunter.

I don't see him as Bond but I also didn't see Craig whatever as Bond, then he did a good job in the first one. (And subsequently dragged the ensuing movies down to his woke level.)

It appears as though the search for the next James Bond is over.

British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has reportedly been offered the role of a lifetime as the "shaken, not stirred" martini-sipping secret agent, sources told The Sun.

The "Bullet Train" actor, 33, is expected to sign on the dotted line this week, the outlet adds.

EON Productions, which makes 007 films, is said to be preparing to start shooting later this year.

"Bond is Aaron's job, should he wish to accept it," an insider told the outlet. "The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back."

"As far as EON is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement," the source added.

Eh, I don't care. I still haven not bothered to see No Time to Die. This is the first James Bond movie I've skipped since I was... I dunno, seven years old?

The ADL, which seems to have as its mission the poisoning of American opinion against Jews, once again demands illegal government censorship of citizen speech, this time demanding "regulation" of dangerous right-wing memes in... video games.

The Hill pushed for censorship:

But these efforts to rein in social media overlook the gargantuan online gaming industry. Video games comprise the largest entertainment industry by far, grossing almost $200 billion in revenue in 2022 (more than the music and film industries combined). Today, online gaming sites offer far more than entertainment -- they are social platforms that channel user communication and enable networking and community building.

Online games should be part of the regulatory discussion concerning digital platforms -- but they seldom are.

Discussions of harms in gaming historically have focused on fears about the content of the games themselves. However, the social environment of games is what actually poses significant threats to players' safety and well-being. Exposure to hateful speech is routine while doxxing -- exposing someone's private identifying information -- and physical threats are also common. Of acute concern is mounting evidence that extremists and other bad actors take advantage of the preexisting toxic gamer culture to disseminate their hateful ideologies and unleash hate-based harassment.

And the ADL pushed that article:

ADL
@ADL

As digital social spaces, online games should be regulated to address hate & extremism. It’s vital for Congress to examine extremist radicalization in these spaces & we are grateful to @RepLoriTrahan for leading this effort. An important piece to read:

Pedro Pascal advised Gina Carano to give in to the trans terrorists and "just put #transrights in your bio, and then they'll leave you alone."

Just bend the knee to your tormentors, bullies, and persecutors. Just do what they demand.

In more "Is This Something?" news: Michael Keaton made an action movie in which he stars as Joe Biden.

Disney Minus' new Star Wars show The Acolyte -- which is from an unqualified angry square-headed lesbian* who served as an acolyte to serial molester and rapist Harvey Weinstein -- concludes with this line, which pretty much admits the immorality of endless #MeToo scalp-hunts and endless promotion of unqualified DEI tokens: "It's not about good and evil. * Square-headed is an apt description from Ya Boi Zach. Her head is indeed a smug square.

They've also shat out yet another Alien movie and also crapped out a Twister reboot.

And a Crow reboot.

Everybody's so creative!

Whoops -- that Alien trailer is a fake fan-made thing, though there is in fact an Alien: Romulus movie coming.

The Archer actor voices the inner monologue of the main character (who's a deaf mute) in this Sam Raimi-produced movie:

24 Jews are under attack in the United States as never before, so of course the ADL is focusing in censoring video games.

Of course, the ADL has internal issues - thanks to its Leftist tilt, the ADL employs a lot of AsAJews who support Hamas, so denouncing video games is a lot easier than confronting the wave of hatred directed at Jews and Israel.

31 Also, in addition to the rumored Bond casting news, Christopher Nolan has started writing his next film now that awards season is over.

Nolan has met with Barbara Broccoli of EON entertainment more than once over the last year or so about directing Bond. The rumors have swirled for a while (2 movie deal, 60s setting, complete control), most of which Broccoli reportedly didn't like.

However, the timing is just right...Johnson gets cast while Nolan is writing with an aim to get production moving relatively quickly...giving Johnson time to train on whatever he needs in the ensuing few months.

255 Aaron Taylor-Johnson is cool. Kick-Ass was good, he was ok as Quicksilver, I thought he was solid in Tenet and Savages... He's slick-looking and has some range. Can't say that they won't make Bond awful (Casino Royale was great, and Skyfall was good, but the rest of Daniel Craig's Bond... meh). But at least Bond isn't a black lesbian. Good sign there.

And Daniel Craig was awesome in Layer Cake. There's a scene where he's play-sneaking around with a Ruger when Matthew Vaughn (the movie that arguably made him, too) said that it's Daniel's dream to be Bond. Then he became Bond and did Casino Royale. Before the dark times. Before the EMPIRE!!

Anyway, could be worse than Aaron Taylor-Johnson...

The Bond Girl in The Living Daylight was similar but was really pushed around by the action rather than changing it unlike Simonova.

Good question. Question 21(l) of the form you sign under penalty of perjury when buying from an FFL asks "Are you an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States?" (bold in original) and if you answer Yes, any legit FFL will nix the sale. My assumption (disclaimer: I am not a Hawaiian judge) has always been that if you couldn't legally buy a gun, you couldn't legally possess one. And obviously, if you can't possess it legally, you can't carry it legally.

Posted by: G'rump928(c) at March 19, 2024 05:51 PM (aD39U)

344 The Acolyte is supposed to be set in a new Star Wars time period called The High Republic. It's set a century or two before the prequel movies, IIRC. There is no overarching enemy for the setting. As one would expect of a high profile franchise, there are a bunch of novels for fans of the setting. The first novel sold very well. But sales numbers have dropped dramatically and consistently for each subsequent novel - to the point where the latest novels are barely selling. The woman in charge of the overall setting has a background that goes something along the lines of, she really liked Star Wars when she was a young girl. But then as she got older, she realized how patriarchal it was. And she's not going to let that happen to High Republic.

361 I’ve never heard Tom Cruise opine about politics. For that alone he’s better than 95% of Hollywood.

For all I know, he may hate me like all the rest of them do but he's smart enough not to say it out loud. And he seems to want to make movies to entertain me, not preach to me. In consideration for those two things, I spend good $$ to see a lot of his stuff in first run.

One of Hollywood's script problems derives from the lack of tested source material. A best selling novel or serialization in the Saturday Evening Post would at least bring curious fans out to see what they would do with the material.

The Bond Girl in The Living Daylight was similar but was really pushed around by the action rather than changing it unlike Simonova.

No better said. And: she was so bloody hot.

For similar reasons I also loved Anya from The Spy Who Loved Me. She was a brilliant spy in her own right and you might say she was Bond ‘s equal. Some say she was made a damsel in distress in the end. Some damsel: she swore she was going to kill Bond at the end of the mission. The wise move for Bond would be to let her die, but he refused and rescued her anyway.

Oh, and Anya, played by Barbara Bach, was so bloody hot.

416 There may be some initial audience resistance, but Aaron Taylor Johnson is close to the vital stats, at least according to the books. Bond was six feet tall, and over the course of the novels there are indicators that during that timespan he was 31 in Casino Royale and 42 by the time of the final book, The Man With the Golden Gun. Johnson is 5'11" and 33 years old.

If they jettison the rest of the supporting characters from the Craig years, this could be the fresh start the franchise needs.

I saw it on Criterion this weekend, and I think Cage's "Wicker Man" is due for a reevaluation.

The times have caught up to it.

The OG WM was about a conservative, uptight Christian cop who deserved to get BBQ'd because he was an uptight Christian conservative.

The remake plays a bit like a reverse "The Handmaiden's Tale", and is about a normal, virile cop who's tricked using his honorable and protective instincts into getting BBQ'd specialcally because he is a normal virile guy.

Check it out. It's time has come.

429 No better said.

430 One way of looking at this "Kraven" thing is, it's lake a raven only better. A raven with crunch.

On the other hand, "craven" means coward. Whoever this Kraven character is, he must have been teased a lot when he was little.
