Don LeMon Update: Don LeMon Might Have -- Get This -- Lied About the Reason for His Firing

Don LeMon created a fake controversy about getting fired -- again -- and then used that as advertising for his new "show," which will fail.

But he did run to the last people who fired him, CNN, to lie.

This is all a contrived fake controversy to get LeMon an audience for his interview with Musk -- and, he hopes, to get CNN to reconsider and give him his old job back. (Or for MSNBC to decide to add another "diverse" host.)

Now, the word being pushed by Don LeMon and his allies like Kara Swisher is that Elon Musk is a First Amendment Phony because he fired Don LeMon for his speech.

First of all -- that doesn't make him a First Amendment faker. As Don LeMon has repeatedly lectured Elon Musk, there is no First Amendment right to even post one's thoughts on Twitter, let alone be paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do a "show" which essentially no one will watch.

But is it even true that Musk fired him over this interview?

Musk says no. Musk says he offered to host the show, with the standard payments based on how many people watched him.

Don LeMon, a man whose name is synonymous not only with Black Hole Travel Hazards but with ratings failure after ratings failure, demanded a guaranteed minimum payment despite not offering in return a guaranteed minimum audience.

By the "dying CNN business model," Musk means this whole system of paying "talent" (LOL) a set salary.

Obviously, Musk's idea of a proper model is payments based on performance. Where LeMon is paid what the markets decide LeMon is actually worth.

For reasons that are all too obvious, Don LeMon views salary based on actual performance as a vampire views a silver crucifix hung with a wreath of garlic.

Don LeMon is trying to put out the fake spin that he was fired because he asked Musk about moderation on Twitter -- as if Musk has not been asked about that a thousand times -- and because he asked about Musk's admitted use of ketamine as an alternative to the standard, and apparently not very effective, anti-depression medication.

He's trying to pretend Musk was just upset by these super-unexpected questions.

Instead of Musk just saying: You're probably not going to attract any viewers to X so there's no way I'm giving you a guaranteed minimum salary. You will earn what you actually earn, just like any other publisher on X.

Yup. The web-based streaming world provides new opportunities. In the old world of cable (less so with digital cable and addressable boxes, but the model was held over), you pay out what you can and hope to cater to the audience. Or for internal or external politics. Or whatever.

In the streaming world, there are hard data. The platforms are very territorial and secretive about the data, but all the platforms know who watched what. They have to, because they delivered it and it was a unicast. They know the endpoint that tuned in (and the account, if logged in or otherwise inferred), how long the user watched, whether the user skipped around, etc. The platform also knows how many ads it sold and delivered, to how many eyeballs.

For something like a news program or live show, the platform is well served by paying a percentage. Everyone remains incentivized, and since the production costs are fairly low (unlike a movie, for example), there is little need to gamble.

Sorry, Don. Only cable's old model would gamble on your ass.

Does that work? I take a small dose of the SSRI Paxil daily. I'd love to switch because Paxil has side-effects like loss of libido and weight gain.

Before anyone tells me all I need is exercise, I lift weights 3x per week and do 40 minutes of hard cardio 2x per week. It helps, but it's not effective enough to quit Paxil.

Pragmatism, I think. If it was about bending the knee, that failed because he unbent it. But I think it was pragmatic. He has a platform he's trying to build. Name-recognition guys who can bring in some audience are a good thing. And he's willing to pay them for it - but only what they're worth. That's a percentage, apparently, of the revenue associated with the programming. Makes sense to me.

Lemon wanted more, and minimum guarantees. Musk declined. He wants name on his platform, and viewers - but he's not going to overpay for them. Lemon wanted to be overpaid, so Musk dropped him.

I do. 2-3 times a week, for about 20 minutes, in the morning.

When I moved, I did this to get a feel for local weather/traffic patterns, and learn the correct pronunciation of proper names.

I continue doing so just to keep abreast of what the enemy is up to. It's shocking. My local news is pretty bad in terms of commie shit, but it's downright based as compared to the national morning program.

I never did, but that's mostly because I know enough about myself to know that I really, really shouldn't. I have a fairly compulsive personality. Hard drugs are probably something that, if I tried them, I would never quit. I thought it better just to never step onto that road in the first place.
