The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

South Carolina Representative Adam Morgan stood up in the state house and made the apparently revolutionary statement that he should listen to the people who elected him, rather than the lobbyists and the lifers in the legislature. And as a delicious bonus simply and concisely destroyed the idea of central planning.

But we are so far removed from the core principles of our republic that another representative can stand up in the same state legislative body and say that his constituents are too dumb to run things, and he wasn't shouted down by the other representatives! This is elitism in a nutshell.

Central planning rarely works. Adam Smith's invisible hand...the billions of individual decisions that collectively comprise an economy is the only rational way to direct our resources. That means limited power and influence by our government over the lives of the citizens it serves, and the elitist attitudes of those who are drawn to government simply cannot abide that. The good people of Adam Morgan's district understand that, and elected Mr. Morgan to push back the tide of corruption and profligate spending.

"The will of the people." That sounds quite simple, yet it is a powerful and incorruptible thing. How does one coerce this representative? He has publicly stated that he will follow the desires of his constituents, so bribery, blackmail, or any of the other techniques that seem to be wildly successful with many public officials in America. To change his vote, one needs to change the opinions of the voters who put him in office. And that is as it should be.

Mr. Morgan has announced his intention to run for Congress in SC's 4th district. The incumbent seems to be a fan of DEI, and hopefully that will be enough to sink his reelection campaign. We need hundreds of Mr. Morgans at every political level to beat back the progressive goal of a communitarian America that destroys the individual, and raises the concepts of race, ethnicity, sex, and a host of other lunacies above the simple idea of the uniqueness of each American.

Regardless of his future success in politics, Mr. Morgan has divined the secret to energizing a disgruntled and beaten down electorate. He listens to what they have to say and seems to do what they want him to do.

My State Rep is like this. Reagan Dunn. Son of Jennifer Dunn (passed away in 2007) and she was my Representative at the Federal level. Her son was also named for Ronald Reagan. I'm not a fan of nepotism in politics, but in this case, he gets it right. He earns his place on his own.

The bottom line is that people will take chances with other people's money a lot more readily than they will with their own. As I suggested yesterday, if you're in government, and you want to use taxpayer money to direct investment, your personal money is the top of the list for paying back creditors of failed investments.

76 and speaking of state power my daughter just got back from court. She has a house on a large lot with a trailer on it. There are tenants in the trailer who were supposed to paying rent and have not paid it for over a year.

The judge thew down the gavel and gave them a short time to be out. The tenants defense was they ad no power or water.

They did not have power or water because they had not been paying those bills either.

118 I've been away from SC a bit - the current 4th District Rep is William Timmons who was elected in 2019. He replaced Trey Gowdy. I hae not heard that he is some sort of squish.

I often say SC is a machine politics state and that their are regional power bases that have some overlap with the congressional districts.

The seat would have to be open for Morgan to have a real shot there.

I note the article states the illegal is "gainfully employed", which is of course, illegal. But, he apparently was able to prove to a court that he was gainfully employed, which proof should result automatically in his employer facing fines, etc. But it won't.

Nor does it have the right to prior restraint of speech except in extremely narrow circumstances.

The Articles government had its problems and there the problem was tyrannical state governments and a federal government too weak to carry out its few enumerated powers. So the Fedgov was not tyrannical because it was too weak but your rights varied by which what state one lived in. And they did not treat out of state business or people very fairly because it is always easier to lay taxes and regulations on outsiders than themselves.

We had a medium ground using ambiguity over state versus federal power internally but that was destroyed in the Civil War because of that damned institution of slavery.

Related - Washington State Supreme Court has ruled that taking the bar exam to be an attorney disproportionally hurts people of color. So they have determined that people of color aren't smart enough to pass the bar so throw out the bar! You have options now to get your license which are pretty meager and a licensed attorney can help you check the boxes to get your license. So more Fani Willis's and Nathan Wade's. They announce their racism all of the time but the folks that will benefit from this are A-Okay with being used.

About the size of it. The only difference through the ages is by what arguments are used to justify it--dictatorship of the proletariat is not that much different in effect than divine right to rule or saving Our Democracy is today.

Surrender all power to government and government will treat you right. The problem is that every government through the ages has far too many power mad sons of bitches seeking high office. The sum total of what government does then is how much power the power hungry individuals think they can get away with in a particular society.

293 Related - Washington State Supreme Court has ruled that taking the bar exam to be an attorney disproportionally hurts people of color. So they have determined that people of color aren't smart enough to pass the bar so throw out the bar! You have options now to get your license which are pretty meager and a licensed attorney can help you check the boxes to get your license. So more Fani Willis's and Nathan Wade's. They announce their racism all of the time but the folks that will benefit from this are A-Okay with being used.
