The article itself then lies, claiming "speculation is growing." No, your headline had it right: Cheney is pushing for others to speculate.She will play the same role as she did at her high school homecoming dance: Third wallflower on the left.
Speculation is growing about the role former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) will play in the 2024 election as President Biden and former President Trump barrel toward a rematch.

No, it won't complicate her future political ambitions, for the simple reason that she has no political future, period, full stop, end of line, end of program.

However, there has recently been a resurgence for standardized tests. New studies showed that the tests were a better predictor of student achievement than their high school GPA, disproving the longstanding theory that standardized tests are biased and don't accurately capture student ability.
This week, even more evidence arrived indicating that standardized test scores are much more useful than other tools when it comes to predicting later student success. The University of Texas (U.T.) at Austin, in a press release announcing the school's return to requiring test scores in admissions, revealed startling data showing a massive achievement gap between students who submitted their test scores and those who didn't.

Why, it's almost as if grades aren't meaningful across schools because of variations in rigor.

Jay Bratt, representing special counsel office, confirmed the "crime" began that day because as a former president, he was entitled to retain the documents.
Cannon again asked for historical precedent as to when a former president or vice president faced charges for similar conduct. Bratt of course said there is none.
She added "vice president" on numerous occasions for a reason--Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Mike Pence all skated on criminal charges. Trump is the only one who has not.
Cannon: "Arbitrary enforcement...is featuring in this case."
Cannon also addressed the "foreseeability" as to Trump's awareness he was committing a crime by keeping classified/national defense information.
"Given the constellation of what happened before"--meaning no criminal prosecution of former presidents including Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan and vice presidents--Cannon suggested Trump could have reasonably expected he was in the clear.

Also of interest: Jay Bratt claiming there is no official process for a president to obtain or keep a security clearance. His argument is Trump's clearance automatically expired at the end of this term--which contradicts how former government officials maintained clearances long after their service ended.
Trump's elimination of John Brennan's clearance was raised.
But there is a problem. The Dept. of Energy, learning of Smith's indictment against Trump in the summer of 2023, retroactively revoked Trump's "Q" security clearance.
Bratt says the government has emails and a draft memo to revoke Trump's clearance.
Cannon's counterargument is--but if there is no formal process for authorizing or removing a president's security clearance--why did DOE need to memorialize it post-indictment.
Bratt didn't really have an answer.

They aren't perfect, but they're better than anything else, including all the "holistic" measures. They keep making the SAT easier, so as to enable more minorities to score highly, so that they can be admitted even thought their scores would have been much lower on the old tests.
It's obvious what they're doing; all they're trying to do is get past the recent SCOTUS decision.

In the the high school my kids are enrolled in there is practically no expectation assignment are turned in on time. And if grades are too low often tests or assignments can be redone. It is pathetic.
All those 3.5 and above GPA's are utterly meaningless. You now have to have above 4.0 to stand out. I even don't how they do that but it is actually not that rare.

If the data are undesirable, you have two choices:
1. Manipulate the data
2. Eliminate the data
Option 1 is grading on a curve, for example. But the manipulation can often be detected and sometimes even calculated and adjusted. Manipulation only gets you so far.
So they have to just eliminate the data (no more grades, no more SATs, etc.) to continue.

Naturally, the usual whingers said that was unfair, because although the courses were offered at lower ranked schools, the kids didn't take them. Went to a small/poor HS. We did have "Math 12" which was college trig and calc I second semester. 10 of us in that class.
5 of us in "physics".
Being in farm country we had butt loads of votec and home ec type classes.
The way graduation requirements were structured you could take all votec and home ec, and 3rd tier english and history and graduate with a 4.0. Then go onto college and spend your first year taking nothing but catch-up classes.

Unless it has changed a lot, AP tests used to be 1-5. 1-3 and you might have as well not done the course at all. 4 was 'most credit' (depending on the school) and 5 was full credit.

In Virginia, there are quotas for the rural counties, because if there weren't, NoVa would take ALL the admissions slots. You aren't doing those kids any favors, though, because when they get there, and they've got to compete with Mahatma or Wei Lao, they are absolutely demolished. They would be far better served to spend a year or two in a lower school, so as to learn how to cope with the expectations in the first rank schools.
