Another Scandal Brewing at Marvel? Showrunner for "X-Men 97" Cartoon Fired Weeks Before Debut of Show, Disinvited from Premiere

He also deleted all of his social media.

Marvel didn't say he was "let go" or that they separated due to creative differences. They specifically say he was "fired" -- despite the fact he finished his work on both seasons of the cartoon, and therefore no longer had a job anyway.

An independent contrator's contract may run out, but he's not "fired" -- this is Disney attempting to distance themselves from a scandal.

What would prompt such a move just weeks before an important debut?

In an unusual situation on the eve of a project's debut, the writer-producer, who worked on 'Moon Knight' and 'Blade', will no longer be promoting the show or moving forward with future seasons.

"Moon Knight" was more SJW crap and "Blade," infamously, was rewritten to be a majority-female movie, with Blade reportedly demoted to the "fourth lead" in his own movie.

Earlier this month, Beau DeMayo was in the midst of a particularly busy time at Marvel Studios. The writer-producer was preparing for the launch of X-Men '97, the Disney+ series he created as a continuation of the beloved '90s Fox Kids show.

DeMayo, a Marvel regular who previously wrote on live-action series Moon Knight as well as early drafts of the company's delayed-but-still-upcoming vampire thriller Blade, had completed writing duties on season two of X-Men '97, was lining up press, and making plans to attend the show's Hollywood premiere on March 13. He was even discussing loose ideas for a third season with members of his team.

But early last week, Marvel and DeMayo suddenly parted ways. His company email was deactivated and cast and crew were informed he was no longer on the project. DeMayo's Instagram account, once a source for X-Men updates, was deleted. No reason for the firing was given.

The Midnight's Edge guys are speculating that this must be an enormous scandal, because this guy is a "triple shiny." A three-way DEI dreamboat.

Marvel announced DeMayo's hiring in November 2021. The move was met with some level of excitement, as the scribe brought his identity as a gay Black man to the project, and made it a point in talking to the press about how growing up as the adopted son to white parents with a Korean sister in the South made the X-Men characters -- and their struggles for acceptance by society -- feel personal to him.

His silence on social media has been acute as he was a prolific poster, sharing X-Men tidbits as well as shirtless pictures of himself at the gym. For a time he also ran a non-explicit Only Fans account, all of which inspired the LGBTQ publication Out to declare him "the Sexy, Gay Marvel Writer & Showrunner to Know."

Note the excitement was about his identity, not about his actual ability to write.

Nicholas Cage had something to say about Disney, and it wasn't good.

He was asked if there will be a National Treasure 3. The second movie wasn't as good as the first, but it was decent, so there should be a 3. And Nicholas Cage has expressed interest in returning to the role of intellectual hero Benjamin Franklin Gates.

But he says it's not happening, because Disney is a spent force.

No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don't look at Disney, okay? It's not there.

Apparently Disney did make a "National Treasure" TV show for Disney Minus. Instead of Benjamin Franklin Gates, the show starred...

Well, place your bets. Tell me what you think the main character was in terms of "identity."

Got your bets locked in? Okay, per Wikipedia, the star is:

Lisette Olivera as Jess Valenzuela, a young DACA woman living in Baton Rouge who finds out that her dead father is part of a secret network of treasure protectors; later Liam's love interest.

"DACA" are "Dreamers" -- illegal aliens granted an illegal amnesty by Obama.

The show was not renewed for a second season. Oddly enough.

Speaking of tainted treasure: Wizards of the Coast is putting out a $99 nostalgia book about the earliest days of Dungeons & Dragons.

And their marketing campaign for this pricey tome? Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson and all the early creators were just "white dudes" with highly problematic worldviews whose work would never pass muster with the "inclusivity reviews" of today.

One of the sins they mention is that the original name of the Fighter class was "Fighting Men."

Fighting Men! Can you believe it! Just because every example of a warrior was male, and they're calling them Fighting Men!

What terrible white dudes! All they did was create a massively popular form of entertainment still growing in its 50 years!

The sheer privilege!

In delivering what is perhaps one of the most self-aggrandizing virtue signals in recent history, current Dungeons & Dragons Senior Game Designer Jason Tondro has taken to proudly touting the fact that much of the series' original materials -- which he condescendingly writes off thanks to having been made by "white dudes" -- "would never pass our inclusivity reviews today".

...

Following a lengthy summary of the book's contents, as well as his own history with the franchise, Tondro was eventually met by the observation from Kenreck that "It's important [to note] that this is a historical document, so there are things in there -- it was a different time, so we've had an inclusivity review of all these materials", to which he enthusiastically replied, "Multiple. So let's take a step back here. Let's clarify. There are materials in original Dungeons and Dragons that would never pass our inclusivity reviews today."

"Some of it you can understand," the designer proceeded to argue. "Like, okay. These are a bunch of war gamers, and they're using armies from history, so when they create a warrior class for D&D, they call it the Fighting Man [the original name for the Fighter class]! Because that's what they were used to, they were all men, they were all white dudes from Lake Geneva and the Twin Cities."

And also, historically, men have always been the actual fighters. And men are the people interested in fighting. And wargaming.

But it's probably just because they're "white dudes."

Say, are black dudes more feminist than white dudes? Weird they always specify that "white dudes" have these patriarchal tendencies. But I kinda think most black dudes are patriarchal too. Maybe even more so.

Yes, you read that right -- Tondro just dismissed D&D creators Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson as nothing more than ignorant "white dudes".

Following this insult, he continued, "But that's just the tip of the iceberg. There's a lot of material in this book, and I won't go over all of it, but it would not pass our inclusivity review today. We couldn't change it, it's history, what we can do is acknowledge it and show how far we've come because that's not D&D anymore."

Yeah, the first edition said that players should choose their genders and they only listed two possibilities. What a horror show.

I'm somewhat ashamed, but I bought the Wizards "Art and Arcana." It's a book of art from TSR/D&D products.

So I'm the audience for this.

But not anymore...!

Meanwhile, people keep digging into Sweet Baby Inc. founder Kim Belair's past comments.

Here, she admits she wants to "take over" the videogame industry, and also admits what we all know -- she'd rather make mediocre games than great ones if she feels better making the "okay" games.

In other words: I'd rather work on crap DEI games than outstanding non-DEI games.

She continued, "And so, today, what we do is writing, narrative design, story building, story breaking as our first and foremost. But on a secondary level we work very hard to get marginalized talent into the industry, to protect them the way that we would want to have been protected, to lift them up, and to get them into an industry where they're too often shut out."

Belair then admitted, "And basically, I think, to take over in the hopes that some really dope people will be able to lead into a kind of a new era for an industry that's been kind of been, you know, the same way too long."

Later in the interview, she was asked how she protects her mental health and admitted she would rather create subpar games than attempt to achieve greatness.

She said, " I think to protect myself and for my own mental health, I have made sure that I work with people I really, really care about and really, really respect and really, really enjoy working with."

"Not straight white men," she means. Unless they're soyblooded "allies" who will automatically defer to woke woman-of-color lesbians with purple hair.

" I often talk about the fact that like video games are such huge projects and they feel like they're these huge works of creative brilliance and they take so many brains, but for me I would much rather work on something that is an okay project with great people who I care about, who lift each other up, who provide like a sense of balance than something that is maybe technically very proficient, but it was hell to make, and the people aren't empathetic."

"I'd rather work with incompetent, unmotivated DEI hires than straight white men who know what the hell they're doing because they're not 'empathetic' to me and my 'different ways of knowing.'"

Yes, we kind of knew, based on your horrible work product, that quality was not your top priority -- DEI diversity hiring is. You care not at all about quality.

But thank you for making it official.

Disney seems to have hired a host of people (execs and creatives) who still think the future is Disney+. There's no desire to put anything in theaters from large swaths of the company. The newest high form of filmed entertainment is the Disney+ series.

OF COURSE they would prefer if their message was made in a way that people would want to hear it, like the messages those evil white men like Tolkien wrote, but THE MESSAGE is what's important.

70 Finally finished C.S. Lewis' "sci-fi" trilogy. Spoiler: it's not really sci-fi. It's a Christian fantasy cycle with a part in "space." But not really space, just a fantastical version of the solar system. I'm not really the biggest fan of early 20th century sci-fi as they really didn't have a grasp of what space is really like. -- Funnily enough, he actually referenced HG Wells in one passage. I take it he was making fun of that fucking socialist as he deserved to be.

91 a little while ago I read a Conan story that was rejected and was not published until years after his death. "The God in the Bowl." I don't even know what was going on. It's like a half-assed attempt to do a Conan murder mystery story before bailing it out and throwing in a snake-demon.

Posted by: ace at March 14, 2024

***
Sounds like a neat concept. But the idea of a detective, someone who evaluates factual evidence and determines what really happened ina crime situation, was not something Conan's world would have been ready for. Law and order, the underpinning of the detective story, in a world like Conan's was pretty much "I have the larger army, therefore I am in the right. Die, peasant." Or "trial by ordeal": "If you float in the pond, you're a witch; if you sink and drown, you were innocent."

Maybe Howard realized that and tossed in the snake-demon to try to salvage the story.

I have little doubt that Rowling doesn't know the history of trans stuff in Weimar Germany, but how is that Holocaust denial by saying that Nazis didn't burn the books?

Of course, a smart person would look at Weimar Germany not as some sort of goal, but as a warning. The more degenerate a ruling class becomes, the more willing the people are to look literally anywhere else for leadership, maybe even to the point where a third vote for Nazis.

Then it became: FISHMINDEREEIZE. The act of becoming a person who hires a fishminder.

248 I have little doubt that Rowling doesn't know the history of trans stuff in Weimar Germany, but how is that Holocaust denial by saying that Nazis didn't burn the books?

I think the logic goes like this: the original post said "The Nazis burnt books on trans healthcare and research, why are you so desperate to uphold their ideology around gender?”

Rowling says the tweet is dumb/false, probably assuming there weren't a lot of trans ANYTHING in the 30s. But, there apparently (according to the Gaystapo) was one new institute that had some kind of trans medical literature (probably for intersex people), and Nazis burned their books. And Nazis did purge members of the queer community as part of the Holocaust.

Ergo, Rowling denied the Holocaust.

Most of the action against Rohm was not because they were gay, or child abusers, or sadistic, but rather because they were a rival power structure within the Reich after Hitler seized power. They wanted to keep the thing going, the chaos and the rebvellion and revolution. Hitler was quite happy with things the way they were so ... Night of the Long Knives.

My college advisor (PhD in Chemistry) was "drafted" during the Viet Nam war, and served as a Captain, doing chemical research for the Army. He was working on a sustained -release herbicide that would help them keep canals clear of algae, etc, without killing everything in the water. They polymerized 2,4 D with polyacrylate, which sort of worked. Slowly degraded and released 2,4 D into the water, over time.
After he started his academic career, this was an ongoing project for his various grad students. And he got research bucks from the FedGov for this.
And that's the way it all works, kids.

439 In the first edition (AD&D) player's guide, female characters had caps on their physical stats that were lower than male characters. In the monster manual a number of "monsters" are depicted Frank Frazetta-style, with bare breasts. And then there's the infamous Palace of the Silver Princess art that had to be redacted at the time. But it was the 1970s; there are album covers from the period that are far worse.

There's inside baseball going on here that you all aren't going to be aware of. This is an attempt to delegitimize the heirs of the original D&D creators, who managed to acquire the rights to the old TSR trademark and are releasing new old-school D&D material under that mark. They refuse to bend the knee to the current trans and woke orthodoxy, and so they have to be cancelled.
