I believe peak blossom at the Dee Cee Tidal Basin this year is either next week or the week after. I won't go near it - the traffic and crowding can be horrendous.

Fortunately, there are enough cherries in my suburban neighborhood that I don't have to go looking for them elsewhere.

G.K. Chesterton mused about prehistoric cave paintings and warned against the arrogance of our dismissing them as any less meaningful than modern art. He said, IIRC, that for all we know they might have been meant to decorate the nursery.

Not if your worldview includes God. He's a Creator, after all. And we were created in His image. He is by His very nature creative, and therefore so are we. That's what makes us human. Our creative outlets help us find our passions. Our passions define us.

107 Biarritz
France, Europe
Half ritzy coastal resort, half summer surfers' hang-out, the seaside resort of Biarritz has been a favourite beach getaway since Napoléon III and his Spanish-born wife Eugénie arrived during the mid-19th century. Its elegant villas and heritage-listed residences, which glitter with belle époque and art deco details, have retained their glamour. Unfortunately the 20th century wasn't quite so kind, and the seafront is blessed with its fair share of concrete carbuncles that have done little to enhance its aesthetic appeal. Nevertheless, Biarritz remains one of the southwest's seaside gems and throngs with visitors in summer.

Somebody once did a study of the cave paintings by looking at them as the original painters did. In flickering torchlight, the animals seem to move. In some caves and chambers, echoes mimic the animals' sounds. Some are even painted so deep and out of the way no one would ever see them. They seem to be more than wall paintings. A lot of thought seems to have gone into them. If so, they are as complex in design and concept as anything today.

121 We had a whale of a fight in our house tonight, my kids telling me that they wouldn't vote for Biden because "he's bombing the Palestinians in Gaza". This comes from their social media groups, as well as from their very alt-Left grandmother who is very pro-Hamas.

Ask them if they think Trump would be any better for the Palestinians, considering he implemented a Muslim ban and he's Netanyahu's good buddy.

Netanyahu and Putin want Trump for POTUS. Most Republicans support Putin over Biden. The source of this anti American sentiment lies at the feet of Russian propagandist Rupert Murdoch and his Pox News propaganda operation.

Perception is hard to dislodge once rooted in people's minds. A vote against Biden would be perceived as a protest against his support of Netanyahu and the ongoing murder of innocents in Gaza. Such voters might not vote for Trump either, but leaving the presidential choice blank could help Trump win.

148 Byron York @ByronYork
The dishonesty of Stephanopoulos' interview is striking. He says 10 times that Trump was found 'liable for rape' in the E Jean Carroll case. He says that the jury found Trump 'liable for rape.' In fact, the jury specifically found Trump *not* liable for rape. It found him liable for 'sexual abuse.' The judge later tried to spin the decision, citing laws that did not apply, to argue that the jury 'implicitly' found Trump liable for rape. In the absence of an actual jury finding of rape, the judge guessed that the jury's decision 'necessarily implies' rape. Stephanopoulos, in spite of the jury's written finding, on 10 occasions said Trump had been found legally liable for rape. Why not just be accurate and say Trump was found liable for sexual abuse? Does anyone think that sounds *good*? Did ABC think it would be letting Trump off easy by accurately citing the jury's verdict? I've written several times that I think the case should never have been brought. But it is a fact that Trump was found liable for sexual abuse. It's also a fact that he was not found liable for rape.

PS: If you want to read the judge's spin, it's here: [andy omitted]

Some of them are truly works of art. Especially with all the hand engraving.

Absolutely. We were specifically looking at samurai swords that day. Weapons -- guns, swords, suits of armor, etc. -- can be art but not all of them are, in my opinion. I kept my answer vague because I didn't want to influence *his* opinion of what art is or can be.

The indians shoot them because they ruin their gill nets and eat a ton of salmon. Don't get me started on the fish chokers and their blocking the major waterways for the salmon returning upstream to spawn. But it's the fault of the hydro dams, that's why the salmon population is going down. The dams have been there for 60 years.

Milk has a lot of the odd compounds that help a body especially just plain ole milk instead of the low fat versions as some of those compounds are filtered out with the fat in low fat milk. Braums Dairy available in some places is the exception as they do something funky to eliminate the fat but not the solids to their low fat products.

Colonoscopy prep is/was typically propylene glycol (aka RV antifreeze).

The tonic water is great advice. Make sure you are stretching and consider coconut water for hydration instead of a Gatorade type drink. Don’t get the canned, sweated, tastes faintly of sugar dirt kind. Get the real stuff. My favorite is Harmless Harvest, it tastes the best, but the Naked brand also works.

I admit, I had to look that one up as I am not as familiar with blackpowder replicas. CNC allows some amazing work displayed there.

Maple is excellent stock material but a bit harder to work than walnut. Did some maple cabinetry and it dulls wood tools fairly quickly compared to walnut. Occasionally, you can actually find some blondish walnut that has a more open grain. Have one of those on an old 1917 rifle and that is probably because in WWI and WWII, wood for stocks became scarce.

Another striking wood is hackberry that is seldom used in stocks.

BBC, 2 Feb 2021, US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has revealed that she is a survivor of sexual assault.

In part, Her statement came as she described the trauma of hiding from a violent mob that stormed the Capitol last month.

She also claims Republicans are using "the tactics of abusers" by telling lawmakers to "move on" from the trauma.

"In her Instagram video, Ms Ocasio-Cortez denounced people who are "constantly trying to tell you that you didn't experience what you experienced or that you're lying."

"There's the trauma of going through what you went through," she said, "and then there's the trauma afterwards of people not believing you, or trying to publicly humiliate you, or trying to embarrass you."

"And that also gets internalized, too, because a lot of times you don't want to believe it either."

Have you noticed a concerning tend in the viral videos of kids beating each other up? They're not just having a scuffle -- fights they can walk away from with their heads held high and a few scratches.

The kids doing the beating are fighting to kill.

The victims are always outnumbered. The assailants are always black. The victims, white.

Has it always been like this? I don't think so. What caused this trend? The only thing that comes to mind is wokeness and DEI -- black kids are being "educated" by their teachers on how evil whites are. White kids are told to submit, to not fight back. That's the trend.
