Have We Passed Peak Woke?

A lot of Fridays I post a LibsofTikTok or a Week in Woke and it's all horrifying and depressing.

This Friday, I'm covering wokeness again, but with a more optimistic spin.

On a recent episode of Triggernometry, the Critical Drinker expressed his belief that we have passed Peak Woke.

He stressed this doesn't mean woke is over. If you think about a hill, and its peak, passing the peak doesn't mean you're back down at ground level. You can still be pretty high.

It just means you've passed the highest point -- the peak of woke -- and are on the way back down to normalcy.

Comics Matter (aka Ya Boi Zach) has been claiming that woke is on the run for a while. I didn't really believe him, but there was a major event in the comic book industry a few months ago that suggested that maybe woke is on its way out.

The story: A Boston comic retailer complained that he could not sell a lot of the crap comics the industry was spamming out. (Obviously he is very sensitive to bad, unsaleable comics -- they murder the retailers who are tricked into buying them, but then cannot sell them for full price, or even for half price. Comic books are not returnable.)

One major complaint he had was that the nitwit writers were not writing classic, very manly characters like Tony Stark or Steve Rogers in-character. Rather, they substitute their own femmy, Current Year concerns, phobias, and anxieties make man's men parrot their own Twitter freak-outs.

The typical Cancel Police immediately attempted to cancel this man. They made fun of him for being, well, a comic book fan -- he was overweight, older, not-too-stylish, and a bit awkward. One obese comic book writer attacked him for being fat.

A woke black comic book artist -- well, a low-level artist -- named Jerome Igle decided to brand him a racist, not based on anything he said (he did not mention race at all, nor did he allude to it), but based on the fact that he said this guy reminded him of a disgusting, dirty comic book shop owner he had known who was racist.

See, this guy reminded him of someone else, and that guy (he claims) was racist, so: Q.E.D.

Wow, Jerome -- good to see your many, many accusations of racism are built upon a firm foundation.

The cancellation train was beginning to chug along and approaching top speed, when suddenly it ran into a problem: star comic book writer Mark Millar, writer of Kick-Ass, the Kingsmen, and a bunch of bestselling comics turned into movies and TV shows, stepped up and defended the comic shop owner, echoed his complaints about storied characters being written as if they were 25-year-old Twitter Addicts, and castigated people for attempting to cancel a man for merely offering his (unobjectionable) opinion.

Suddenly the comic book "pros" who were attempting to cancel him fell into retreat. The obese comic book writer who'd made fun of the comic shop owner for being overweight now clarified he didn't mean to call him "fat" as an insult, no, not at all! He had merely called him fat to show that fat comic book nerds should stand in solidarity.

One by one, the would-be cancellers made excuses and softened their objections.

Then Millar coined a new term for then -- he called them "Cancel Pigs," which a pungent, memorable, and highly accurate term for these scumbags. That term, "Cancel Pigs," has now exploded in popularity and is the most popular way to refer to these miserable fascists.

The episode demonstrated a few things. First, the actually-talented people working for corporations had the power to stop this endless purging by the no-talents. At any time, they could have stood up and said, "Enough." But they were too afraid to do so.

The moment Millar stood up, the Cancel Pigs backed down.

Second, it showed that these bloodthirsty savages are all cowards. They were eager to cancel the shopkeeper when they thought his would be an easy scalp to collect, and that their allies would applaud them and their enemies cowed into silent acceptance. The moment they got a little pushback, they all scurried like cockroaches when the kitchen light comes on.

That might have been a sign that wokeness had been allowed to go as far as it would be allowed to go.

There are other signs since then:

Doritos Spain proudly announced they had their own trans influencer -- and boy does that make me want to put their products in my mouth!!!

And then they proudly fired the transfluencer, for... talking about wanting to put things... I can't even say.

Doritos Spain terminated their relationship with transgender influencer Iván González Ranedo, who goes by the stage name Samantha Hudson, after the company came under intense backlash for posting a video on Instagram featuring Hudson.
A spokesperson for Doritos Spain confirmed to Rolling Stone magazine that a short promo called "Crunch Talks" was posted on Sunday and then removed on Monday.
It emphasized that the video was not part of a larger brand ambassadorship campaign.
The spokesperson also revealed that Hudson had been terminated from the company due to making controversial comments in the past.
"We have ended the relationship and stopped all related campaign activity due to the comments," the spokesperson said. "We strongly condemn words or actions that promote violence or sexism of any kind."
Hudson has made controversial statements on capitalism, the family and even child sexual abuse in the past.
Among other controversial alleged comments and posts that have resurfaced online, Hudson endorsed "the abolition of ... the traditional monogamous nuclear family," per the Daily Mail.
"As a teen, she has also tweeted about wanting to do 'thuggish things' to a minor," the outlet reported, in this case a 12-year-old girl.

That is highly euphemized:

"She" wanted to molest a 12-year-old girl. She.

Maybe mentally-ill people who define themselves by advocating for and indulging in transgressive sexual habits aren't necessarily the best spokesthigs for corporations.

Ah, yes: The VA official who demanded that the famous kiss in celebration of the end of WWII must be removed from a museum, because this iconic piece of Americana did not uphold our Current Year values about getting verbal consent for everything.

By the way, Snopes claimed that this was a false story, despite the memo being real. They take the dishonest position that because the VA backed down under intense public pressure, that retroactively changes the past and makes the memo non-existent for all practical purposes.

Obviously, there is much left to do. A woman in Oregon has been convicted n a "hate crime" charge for "misgendering" -- actually, correctly gendering -- a transgender and telling him to get out of the ladies' room.

BREAKING Ngo report: A woman has been convicted by a Portland, Ore. jury of criminal harassment and a hate crime after she misgendered and confronted a trans person using the women's bathroom.
Cassandra McIntyre told Riis Larsen (pictured below), a far-left trans activist formerly known as Ronald A. Larsen, that they're a man and to "get out" after the male allegedly shoved another person to cut in line for the women's toilet. The jury saw video of McIntyre lightly shoving Larsen during the confrontation. She was sentenced to two years probation plus community service--longer than what convicted violent BLM-Antifa rioters and arsonists received in Multnomah County.
Larsen is a self-identified Marxist "queer demi-binary trans woman" who posts online often about transphobia.

And of course J.K. Rowling was just reported to the police for the "crime" of "misgendering" -- again, this means correctly gender -- a biological made "transgender."

On Sunday, author JK Rowling offered a lengthy response to an argument she saw on X. The argument was basically saying there was no point in trying to keep trans women out of women's spaces because they would just go in anyway.

Rowling responded to this argument by saying that the law against murder doesn't stop all murders, but that doesn't mean we rush to repeal the law against murder.

When men - all men, however they identify - are banned from women's spaces, those who disregard the ban can be challenged, inside the space and out. They mark themselves out as suspicious by breaking a rule decent men respect. Nobody claims the rule has successfully kept out every single man who wants to commit voyeurism or sexual assault. And if anyone genuinely believes none of these enthusiastic heterosexual, non-trans-identified male 'allies' aren't personally enthralled by the idea of women and girls losing basic protections, I have several bridges to sell you.

The live action adaptations of Bambi and The Sword and the Stone have been delayed (Bambi's director left, and the latter is just...indefinitely delayed).

What does this have to do with wokeness? Disney's efforts at wokeness have had several epicenters, but one of the biggest and key centers was doing stuff like putting a black girl in a red wig and calling her Ariel. Think Arthur in The Sword and the Stone would have been a white kid? Think Merlin wouldn't have been a mannish black woman?

that's the key with Mark Millar too. He signed some deal with Netflix for tens of millions of dollars, giving them the right to turn his back-catalogue into tv shows, so he's now sitting on F*** You money and doesn't have to appease the Cancel Pigs any more.

But we came very close to losing it, which I think would have almost completely turned the tide of the European war and made it much harder (if not impossible) to defeat Germany.

It's not paying to appeal. It's paying to stay (stop) what otherwise would happen if the decision you're appealing from was put into effect. If you want to stay the actions that would otherwise take place under the decision appealed from, then usually yes. You can get an automatic stay if you post a bond in the amount of the judgment. In Trump's case, he was fined $500M. You can also ask the court (or the appellate court) for a stay without posting any bond, but those are hard to get.

The Republican Party has been constantly at war with itself and its voters since, pretty much, the 1880s. Probably earlier.

Business interests took hold of the party and guided its policy no matter the interests of the people. When they were largely free-marketers, it wasn't the worst thing. But now that the business leaders of America are effectively fascist, it's an untenable position.

The establishment has used different tactics to keep traditionally labeled conservatives on board with the party. The Cold War, family values, the War on Terror, but the actual conflict between establishment and people seemed relegated to primary seasons before. I don't think the party and the base has been in such sustained open conflict for so long since the GOP's founding.

Not enough people, not enough resources, not enough production capability. Just a matter of how long they could hold out after that.

I think it's just Trump.

We'd been dealing with the lying for a long time, accepting the compromise of "moderate" candidates who never delivered because we had to win more until we could push anything. Go Team Red and vote for the most conservative candidate electable by November were the mantras of even the conservative movement as a whole. Throw in the fact that our "thought leaders" were bought and paid for by the establishment in opposition, and you've got an apparatus to keep a populace inching along down a path they don't want to go.

Finally, though, when one candidate says, "I'm not going to moderate my tone on immigration," that candidate gets a groundswell of support, and the establishment can't stop him...well, it's not that the base wanted immigration fixed. It's that they found a candidate who at least rhetorically kept to the idea. And then he won everything.

That was an insult, and it had to be answered. The people were going to pay.

Both parties were in essence regional coalition parties - the Dems in 1968 for example were a coalition of everything from Berkley anti-war hippies to Detroit blue collar workers and everything in between

the funding changed because the laws made the funding change, and at that point they became national to get access to funding and media coverage, and the media followed because they need the funding to survive.

at this point both parties are the elected and functionaries who are representing their donors, and the voters are starting to notice that they are being ignored, and actually being preyed upon. It is going to get interesting, and the only thing that will avoid a big smash in this system is going to be a change to focus on the voter. Who knows if that is possible.

345 Probably repeating a rant I've made before, but...

Frankly I saw this agenda as a junior high school system in the mid 1960's where history/civics was dropped for Social Studies. Some of this had to do with an understandable backlash against Dulles and company and their extra-legal activities such as in Central America. Teachers were become skeptical of conservative ideology which at the time turned a blind eye towards abuses in our three letter agencies. But obviously there were closet leftists who had a political agenda.

Like parasites the leftists will disappear for a while and evolve their survival strategies looking for the tipping point where they can still get forward traction for their end goals with enough ambiguity to exploit "plausible deniability".

The only anecdote to this I can see is not only to fire people, but to educate our kids systematically about the principles of our country, to emphasize to them that it is always under assault, to recognize such in the classroom, and tell their parents.
