Nikki Haley Suspends Campaign But Withholds Endorsement of Trump;
MSNBC Melts Down (Obviously)

Nikki Haley won two primaries: 90% Democrat DC and the most liberal state in the country, Vermont.

Her pointless Ego Ride is over. (For now.)

Although Haley acknowledged the long-obvious, that Trump would be the nominee, and "wish[ed] him well," she did not actually endorse him and seems to be keeping her options as open as her snizz.

"I sought the honor of being your president," Haley continued before noting that "being a private citizen" of the United States "is privilege enough."

"The time has now come to suspend my campaign," the former U.N. ambassador confirmed in her remarks, though she said she "will not stop using my voice" before acknowledging the reality that "Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee" heading into November's general election.

"I congratulate him and wish him well," Haley said of her former boss and, for the last few weeks, her lone opponent in the Republican primary.

,,,

"I wish anyone well who would be America's president," said Haley in remarks that did not see her offer even a half-hearted endorsement of Trump's candidacy. "Our country is too precious to let our differences divide us," she offered instead.

"It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond," Haley continued of the Trump vs. Biden rematch taking shape ahead of November. "I hope he does that," she added.

"Our conservative cause badly needs more people," she emphasized, noting the importance of "bringing people in" rather than "turning them away" before Election Day.

[H]aley said she was sticking to her guns -- for now at least -- and taking a line from Margaret Thatcher to "never just follow the crowd" when it came to who she'd support for president. "Always make up your own mind," she added.

She definitely sounds like she's playing with the idea of running third party.

On MSNBC, Rachel Maddow urged Nikki Haley to continue campaigning -- noting that she doesn't have "another job" to take up her time. And when she was asked what she would be running for, Maddow introduced the idea of running third party, and said that people who run third party do not expect to be president (with a couple of exceptions), but run for "other reasons."

And what reasons would those be? Maddow urged Haley to keep running to keep NeverTrump voices relevant in the media, saying Haley might have the mission of "keeping legitimate, trusted Republican voices about Donald Trump in the mix while Donald Trump runs for president."

Trusted Republican voices? Trusted by Rachel Maddow and MSNBC?

My goodness, why didn't you say so?! Let's do whatever these "trusted voices" tell us to do!

Race-baiting MSNBC DEI hire Alex Wagner later claimed that "Evangelical Christians" are voting for Trump only due to "race" and then offered her opinion that they have always been motivated nigh-exclusively by "race."

Joy Reid almost jumped out of her stupid clown-wig in excitement when the topic of race was brought up -- she finally had something to talk about! Here, Joy Reid said that Republicans are lying when they say they're voting on the economy, because Joe Biden's economy is great and Republicans are just ignoring all of the "benefits they're getting economically from the president" in order to cast racist votes based on race against some races to do a racism.

Remember, Bigots, it's evangelical Christians and Republicans generally who are obsessed with race and make all of their decisions based on race.

In addition, Rachel Maddow looked into the camera and criticized her employer for the Newscrime of actually showing a presidential candidate give a speech after a major win. She continues insisting that Trump be completely deplatformed.

44 McConnell endorses Trump. Breaking on CNN. Who didn’t see that coming?

this is why the exit polls indicating a sizable portion of Haley's voters won't support Trump are suspect. When push comes to shove, I wouldn't count on that many repub voters abandoning Trump in the general, no matter what they might say in an exit poll in a primary in which they voted for someone other than Trump.

what on earth is his explanation as to how Trump could be allowed to be President again? It's almost unbelievable that the man could stand there and say the things he has and then say, "Yeh, cool, he should be POTUS again". Seriously, fuck every single one of these Republicans.

And for the record: I don't believe a single one of the "former Republicans" on MSMBS voted for anyone other than Trump in 2016 and 2020 and they will vote for Trump once again in 2024. Jolly, Schmidt, Wallace, Scarborough... every single one of them.

The only real competition Trump ever had was DeathSantis, and even that was more wishcasting than based on reality. At least DeathSantis and his supporters saw the obvious writing on the wall and quickly dropped out and endorsed Trump.

But as for these lefting cretins, reality could repeatedly smack them in the face with a shovel, while jamming a baseball bat up their ass, and they'd be clinging to bitter delusions. Sad.

1. 3rd party candidates ALWAYS underperform their polls.
2. Voting against Trump in a primary when there isn't a real Democrat primary on at the same time is a low cost way to protest.
3. The 24% turnout isn't going to be terribly reflective of the 70% turnout in the general because the 24% isn't a random sample of voters, no matter the size.

All to say...if Haley were to be a spoiler, I'd bet she'd be more of a Biden one than a Trump one, but her effect will be small. Much smaller than Detroit just saying there are 1000 ballots in a box with 10.

This is possible. It's also possible that a lot of Haley's primary voters were crossovers and would never have voted for her in the general anyway.

If Haley's voters were mostly *not* crossovers *and* they intend to sit out November (or vote for Biden), that will probably hurt Trump's chances pretty markedly.

They thought they could "push" voters in to supporting her with money alone.

The Dems loot the treasury for themselves, their clients, and to an extent their voters.

The GOPe loots the treasury for themselves and their clients.

Is this "conservative" economics? Of course not. Its war.

If Trump wants a FL running mate (since a VA one is wildly unlikely), he can move his residence to VA easily. It would be the safest state (other than FL) with Youngkin being in charge til Jan 2026.

That's the benefit of narcissism--you can't be a word that sounds bad!

So the people you think are bad--that word must be more descriptive of people YOU think are bad.

But Jonathan Haidt exposed the A(uthority)-factor studies of the mid-20th century. Progressives are more likely to be authoritarian, not self-described conservatives. The conspirators flipped the data.

Conservatives want authority. They want authority to get things done, to create and sustain order. Libs and progs think that as long as authority is hanging around it should be another tool for their cause.

I saw a couple of ads focusing on Republican candidates from one of the Democrat women running for the seat, too. But not like Schiff's.

319 A conservative does not kid themselves about authority *dissolving* away, and regards it, as did our founders, as a "necessary evil".

So their "authoritarianism" is acceptance of authority.

The left does not accept authority, and part of perfectible man is the stage where man does not need any more authority. However, it's going to get a take a lot of pressure to "educate" everybody to theoretical perfectibility.

So authority can be *absolute* under a lefty. Which is why you get: "Children belong to the 'community'(governed by the State)" from the current herd.

I suspect it could be Abbott for VP.

Overall, Abbott's shown he has good instincts, even if he doesn't always follow them aggressively. And like a lot of Texas politicians, he has some association with the Bush clan.

Abbott's a good speaker too.

However, can he be the aggressive VP that Trump is going to need. Can he be set on a task and get it done fast and efficiently. Maybe.

That's the one reason I like Vivek. As a business guy, he understands a deadline and quick action.

Eh, we'll see.

422 The most liberal state in America - with a completely open primary system.

In 2020, 150K people voted in the Democrat primary, and only 65K in the GOP primary. According to Pew, voter registration in Vermont is roughly 2 to 1 Democrat vs Republican. So the 2020 numbers make sense.

In 2024, however, there were a total of 137K votes case in the two primaries. By a normal split, that is roughly 45K Republicans and 90K Democrats. Alas, only 64K votes were case in the Democrat primary, by 73K in the Republican party. Which means that 28K Democrats in Vermont are so pathetic that they went out to vote for Neocon Nikki Haley.

Real results of just Republicans in Vermont ?

Trump - 33K (80%)
Haley - 8K (20%)

A spread that is consistent with many other Super Tuesday primary states.

540 @524, MOntec, the person upthread argued that Haley's parents are here illegally , and that is the core of their "natural born" argument. so not even that is factual

541 Even if they didn’t it still doesn’t matter. Born in the US means instant citizenship AT BIRTH. Whether your parents are citizens, or legal or illegal immigrants.

543 530 Montec, Ted Cruz's mother was an American citizen. He was born in Canada to an American citizen singular. With that logic you should say he isn't qualified because a) he was born in Canada, or b) both parents were not citizens? Which is it?
Posted by: Jaimo at March 06, 2024 01:19 PM (DBrN4)

Are you high? lol

I’m saying he was born to one US citizen. Therefore he is natural born. Where he was born is irrelevant. Why is this so hard for you to understand?

548 Montec, then everyone born here can run for president when clearly that was not the intent or they wouldn't have had distinctions as I noted. So anchor babies can be president even if their parents never attain citizenship and remain illegals. The parental country of allegiance is irrelevant to the distinctions that were created for what then?

550 I hate to be a conspiracy theorist, but I think Nikki is betting on some sort of "disqualifying event" prior to the actual nomination. So she is very much planning on being the nominee. What I fear is the only "disqualifying event" that I think will work at this point is the death of the candidate.

561 WaPo:
Haley’s campaign gave us a pretty direct test that has eluded us previously: what would happen if voters were faced with a one-on-one choice between Trump and the GOP of yesteryear.

Haley exuded the Reagan and George W. Bush eras. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more prototypical standard-bearer: conservative but pragmatic, fiscally conscious, hawkish on issues like Russia and Ukraine, and uninterested in the right wing’s almost-singular focus on provocation.

.. Haley was a sellout. Reagan never was.

The myth of Ronald Reagan is thick with rewriting history.
When Reagan first tired to run for President in 1976, the party, then run by mostly the old stoggy Chamber of Commerce types, thought of him as a "too right outliner". He tried to bargain his way back by doing an early pick of Senator Dick Schweiker as VP. This was a step to clever and he fell to Ford. Reagan was not mainline contemporary politics at the time.

The exit polls about Nikki Haley's voters' views on Biden and the economy are WILD.

These results, which are from Virginia, show that 92 PERCENT of Haley's voters approve of Joe Biden's performance as president, and 87 PERCENT of Haley's voters say they're satisfied with how things are going in America right now.

Haley's voters aren't just Democrats. They're the most rabid, left-wing, delusional, anti-Trump members of the Democrat party's already left-wing and delusional base.

Virginia has no party registration and you decide which primary you want to vote in when you get to the poll, which leads to things like Nikki Haley's voters having a higher approval rating of Joe Biden than the general electorate.

566 The RNC debate requirements included a loyalty pledge.
All but three states have "Sore Loser" laws preventing a primary candidate from running third party for the same office in the general election, which means she is barred in every state that has held a primary so far except Connecticut and Iowa, or any state from which she cannot withdraw in time except New York.

If she fails to actively endorse Trump, she will effectively purge herself from the Republican Party.
If she tries to run third party, she will have no chance of being anything but a spoiler, and only a minimal chance of that.
