Vice Magazine Will Cease Publishing, Laying Off Hundreds

Vice declared bankruptcy months ago. Its remaining assets were bought for pennies on the pound* by some financial fregans digging through the corporate media garbage dumpster.

While Vice's layabout perverts had hopes they would continue being paid for their phoney-baloney jobs, they've been told they should plan to spend more time with their Portland polycules.

Vice Media Group is making drastic changes in the face of financial difficulties.

In a memo to Vice employees Thursday, CEO Bruce Dixon said the company will be cutting "several hundred" jobs in the next week.

As part of its major restructuring, Vice will discontinue publishing content on its own website, Vice.com, and will instead put "more emphasis on our social channels as we accelerate our discussions with partners to take our content to where it will be viewed most broadly," Dixon wrote in the memo.

What does that mean? To be honest I think it just means they will spam out advertisements on their Twitter feed.

They say they want to "partner with established media." Of course. Bankrupt basket-case companies always want to "partner" with healthier ones, the same way leeches wish to "partner with" a human leg.

They also say they're going "full studio." But this "pivot to video" hasn't worked out for any of these companies.

"We create and produce outstanding original content true to the Vice brand. However, it is no longer cost-effective for us to distribute our digital content the way we have done previously. Moving forward, we will look to partner with established media companies to distribute our digital content, including news, on their global platforms, as we fully transition to a studio model," the CEO continued.

Vice had been evaluated, absurdly, at $5.7 billion at Peak Stupid. Before it declared bankruptcy it was still evaluated at $350 million.

And now? Who knows. I guess Vice media is still on some cable channels, somewhere.

Vice has long been one of the biggest jokes in Fake Media, as this old video demonstrates.

I wrote a Bye-ku for Vice:

Tranny sewing circles

Vice go boom

I guess even Meta -- FaceBook/Instagram -- isn't making as much profit as they want, because they're allowing people to post and sell sexualized photos of children.

David Strom, first quoting from, I think, the Wall Street Journal:

Meta Platforms safety staff warned last year that new paid subscription tools on Facebook and Instagram were being misused by adults seeking to profit from exploiting their own children.

Two teams inside Meta raised alarms in internal reports, after finding that hundreds of what the company calls "parent-managed minor accounts" were using the subscription feature to sell exclusive content not available to nonpaying followers. The content, often featuring young girls in bikinis and leotards, was sold to an audience that was overwhelmingly male and often overt about sexual interest in the children in comments on posts or when they communicated with the parents, according to people familiar with the investigations, which determined that the payments feature was launched without basic child-safety protections.

This wasn't nudity and it wasn't fully sexual, but it was obviously sexualized.

While the images of the girls didn't involve nudity or other illegal content, Meta's staffers found evidence that some parents understood they were producing content for other adults' sexual gratification. Sometimes parents engaged in sexual banter about their own children or had their daughters interact with subscribers' sexual messages.

And more from the NYT:

Thousands of accounts examined by The Times offer disturbing insights into how social media is reshaping childhood, especially for girls, with direct parental encouragement and involvement. Some parents are the driving force behind the sale of photos, exclusive chat sessions and even the girls' worn leotards and cheer outfits to mostly unknown followers. The most devoted customers spend thousands of dollars nurturing the underage relationships.

The large audiences boosted by men can benefit the families, The Times found. The bigger followings look impressive to brands and bolster chances of getting discounts, products and other financial incentives, and the accounts themselves are rewarded by Instagram's algorithm with greater visibility on the platform, which in turn attracts more followers.

More at the link.

Parents are exploiting their children, making them available to pedophiles, and Instagram just takes its cut of the revenue.

Meanwhile, it's hardly any better in the (LOL) "Prestige" media. The editor who edited the Tom Cotton op-ed calling for National Guard troops to quell the insurrection of BLM and Antifa Arsonists in 2020 now reveals how toxic and insane the New York Times is.

He was shamed at a silly get-to-know-eachother orientation meeting.

On one of my first days at The New York Times, I went to an orientation with more than a dozen other new hires. We had to do an icebreaker: Pick a Starburst out of a jar and then answer a question. My Starburst was pink, I believe, and so I had to answer the pink prompt, which had me respond with my favorite sandwich.

Russ & Daughters' Super Heebster came to mind, but I figured mentioning a $19 sandwich wasn't a great way to win new friends. So I blurted out, "The spicy chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A," and considered the ice broken.

The HR representative leading the orientation chided me: "We don't do that here. They hate gay people." People started snapping their fingers in acclamation.

Uptwinkles!!!

I hadn't been thinking about the fact that Chick-fil-A was transgressive in liberal circles for its chairman's opposition to gay marriage. "Not the politics, the chicken," I quickly said, but it was too late. I sat down, ashamed.

But it's Mostly Peaceful Chicken!!!

The final value will probably make Tumblr look good.

Tumblr sold to Yahoo! for a billion dollars. A billion. Freaking. Dollars.

Then Yahoo! - which clearly did zero due diligence like actually *using* the platform they bought - realized that what they bought was a platform full of political subversives, perverts and pedophiles. Huge, monumental liability risks. They had to shut down most of what made the platform appealing to its audience and it started hemorrhaging.

Eventually, Verizon bought Yahoo! and then got rid of the cancerous growth by spinning out Tumblr. Divestiture price: $3 million. Decline: 99.7%.

I'll bet Vice's decline from the phony baloney "peak valuation" will rival Tumblr.

76 I guess even Meta -- FaceBook/Instagram -- isn't making as much profit as they want, because they're allowing people to post and sell sexualized photos of children.

This should be very interesting when Congress next raises the issue of 230 modifications. One of the first points social media companies raise when it suits them is that they're not just a neutral platform, because they have to block kiddie porn. In reality, it means when it suits them they can block anything insufficiently woke. However, when they're worried about being sued, suddenly they're a neutral platform only. It's a particle / wave duality sort of thing, but for idiots.

There's a word for the general phenomenon (not just the sexual aspect of it where applicable), which is "kidfluencer." "Kidfluencer" is derived precisely as you'd think.

Like all successful "influencers," there can be big money involved. The legal implications are being hashed out in the courts in real time. Any number of "kidfluencers" have or are suing their parents over revenue rights.

If one of these sexual "kidfluencers" decides to get her cut, it will probably make for some extremely unseemly courtroom transcripts.

There is a BIG (and I mean big) Meta (Facebook) Data center near where I live.
And Les Wexner (closely tied to Jeffrey Epstein) also lives near to the data center (on the other side from me, I live east, he lives west, in New Albany). Coincidence???
And there's a Google data center just across the street from the Meta Data Center (server farm, I guess).

87 76 This should be very interesting when Congress next raises the issue of 230 modifications.

144 COPPA is a 1998 law (enacted in 2000) that restricts data collection on minors. It is not fixed in how this is to be done, but essentially, children under 13 are off-limits. There are legal mechanisms to get parental consent for collection of data on children under 13, but it's such a can of worms that most online platforms don't permit it.

Go look at the terms of service for any social networking site, and they all forbid people under 13 from registering (this is why they ask for your birthday, unless the platform also allows "adult content," in which case there are two cutoffs: 13 and 18 ).

The penalties can be severe, so if these platforms are gambling with this, it means that they aren't (or don't think they are) gambling.

The girl won the fight but the school people broke it up before it got too serious walked the girl and the tranny to the nurses station and had them checked out and sent home.

The next day the tranny had a seizure and died.

Apparently the family wanted to blame the girl that got attacked but the cops told them you can't assault someone and then prosecute the victim even if she wins the fight...

Worse - how would the law handle the end result of AI alterations? Still as possession? Or as 'art'?

LOL!

Oh, man, that would be funny.

But no. Here's how "valuations" usually work:
- Company needs to raise financing, so shops around for new investors, usually VC firms or similar
- Investor agrees to buy in and buys a share of a company for some amount of money
- That investor's purchased is used to establish the valuation

For example, say Softbank agrees to buy 15% of Company X for $250 million dollars. The company's "valuation" is now $1.67 billion. If that valuation is based on lies, then Company X committed fraud, but it's all so loosey-goosey and based on hypothetical forward statements that are hard to pin down as lies - along the lines of, "sure our net profits are -130%, but here's why that will change and we'll rocket straight to the moon." The facts are facts, but the assessments are hopes and dreams and very hard to prove as fraud.

Most of the people Musk fired were either censors or in rubber rooms.

IIRC, Twitter had an entire office that was just a rubber room. They hired minorities and women and women minorities and put them in phony jobs where they did no work, but it padded their "workforce diversity" numbers. a lot of moms live thru their daughters

I saw firsthand how the other prep school girl-moms acted - they bragged about their daughters prep-school boyfriends and tarted those girls up before mixers like you wouldn't believe! (my daughter was a sports nut tomboy thank God)

my sons had girls where the moms would kind of really aggressively get involved in them dating their daughters.

it was creepy. at that level everyone was "prep school married" by 10th grade and it was facilitated entirely by the girl moms. they talked about nothing else.

Yeah, and this isn't new. The format is perhaps new (using social networking platforms to do it electronically), but the phenomenon isn't. Lots of parents will turn out their kids. Not most, but at least some. Where do the kids who get sold into slavery by Eastern European and Latin American crime syndicates come from? Some are probably snatched off the street, but given the numbers involved, I doubt that's most of them.

261 LOL!

Does it seem that most of the trials for Trump and moreover the J6ers have banned defenses?
Is this a sensationalization or something common?

305 Haha! One of the funniest jobs I ever did, and I did it for years, was cleaning the gutters on a one-story ranch house for a high-rise steelworker. I installed leaf guards that I told him straight up wouldn't work, but then I guess he liked me and called me for 'inspection' every year when his wife was gone (I think his old lady thought of the leaf guards and he knew it was bullshit too).
But man, he would NOT get up 10 feet on his own roof and this dude had photos of himself dancing on beams far above Chicago. The 'give' of the shingles and plywood on his roof totally freaked him out and he flatly would not do it. Scared him to death.

Back when I was at DuPont the VP of Engineering related a story of a personal friend of his who wrecked himself after falling off a ladder while putting up holiday lights on his house. I took the lesson of the story to heart and immediately stopped installing lights on our dwelling where they required me to be well up on a ten-plus foot ladder.

A few years later I stopped doing them altogether. I wish that I had thanked the guy.

309 In the historiography of the French Revolution, the Thermidorian Reaction is the common term for the period between the ousting of Maximilien Robespierre on 9 Thermidor II, or 27 July 1794, and the inauguration of the French Directory on 2 November 1795.

The "Thermidorian Reaction" was named after the month in which the coup took place and was the latter part of the National Convention's rule of France. It was marked by the end of the Reign of Terror, decentralization of executive powers from the Committee of Public Safety and a turn from the radical Jacobin policies of the Montagnard Convention to more moderate positions. Economic and general populism, dechristianization, and harsh wartime measures were largely abandoned, as the members of the convention, disillusioned and frightened of the centralized government of the Terror, preferred a more stable political order that would have the approval of the plurality. The Reaction saw the Left suppressed by brutal force, including massacres, as well as the disbanding of the Jacobin Club, the dispersal of the sans-culottes, and the renunciation of the Montagnard ideology.

314 The National Convention had replaced the National Assembly as the furnace of political action. The radical Jacobin faction, led by Robespierre and Saint-Just, coalesced into a power-seizing majority there. They took their name from a political club founded by anti-royalists, but their platform became increasingly extreme as the revolution lurched toward pandemonium.

During their year in power, the Jacobins turned the life of the nation upside down in their zealous quest to create a perfectly equitable society. They abolished the church (and replaced it with their own “cult of the supreme being”. They changed the week from seven days to ten days, they changed the names of all the months of the calendar. (1792 was denoted “the Year One.” They put in price and wage controls while churning out money (paper assignats) which triggered (voila) monetary inflation! They confiscated grain from farmers all over the country. They condemned thousands (estimate: 20,000 to 40,000) of political enemies to the guillotine in their “Reign of Terror.” In short, the Jacobins made a bloody mess of things and pissed-off a lot of their countrymen.

316 Just go to any beach or vacation spot -- or indeed, any spot at all -- and you'll see very young girls accompanied by their parent(s) all tarted and pimped up, showing way too much skin, looking like little whores. I feel icky just being around them. But the parents not only allow it, they are no doubt encouraging or facilitating it. These girls ain't buying their own outfits or makeup or whatever.

The fact that the same thing happens on SM surprises me not in the slightest.

Even back in the early 90s, back when I was living in the East Bay Area (Walnut Creek, CA) -- I would drive my stepdaughter to Middle School and was astonished at what I saw the young teenaged girls wearing (at the beginning of the spandex fad).

I once remarked "Why do their parents let them dress like that?" a and she said most of the girls left in return left & returned to their homes modestly-dressed -- but carried their slut clothes and their backpacks, and change into them once they got to school.
