Posted by: rhennigantx at February 28, 2024 09:55 AM (ENQN6)

107 From Yahoo News, referring to the Athens, GA area, where UGA is located…

—-

In 2018, the local sheriff at the time, Ira Edwards, under pressure from Girtz and others, ended the practice of holding arrested immigrants in jail for 48-hour periods to give federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials an opportunity to pick them up for potential deportation.

The next year, Girtz and the commission passed a resolution denouncing white supremacy and declaring that immigrants lacking permanent legal status should “feel welcome and comfortable” interacting with government.

And in 2020, voters elected a liberal district attorney, Deborah Gonzalez, who pledged to “take into account collateral consequences to undocumented defendants” in making charging decisions.

——

All these people have blood on their hands. As do the voters who made it possible. As does George Soros who funds all of it.

117 All these people have blood on their hands. As do the voters who made it possible. As does George Soros who funds all of it.

They don't care. And they won't care even when it happens to one of their own. Just like the Tibbetts family didn't care. We keep telling ourselves the lie that a liberal is just a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet. But that's not how it works. The sooner we all accept it, the better off we'll be.

More akin to a breaded porkchop. Though I can see a continuum that also includes chicken fried steak and hot pockets.

Sandwiches must have at least two separate pieces of bread. Corndog: not a sandwich. Hot dog: not a sandwich (unless you put two of them between two slices of bread). Tacos, burritos, etc.: not sandwiches.

Beef Wellington: also not a sandwich, but now I can't stop thinking about it. Maybe I'll make one this weekend.

150 Not something I would hang, being a big hairy male, but it is an effective, pleasant scene painted with an interesting technique. The background and cloth of her gown and pillows are sort of Impressionistic while her face and arms and the nightstand are more natural. Interesting contrast. Her face and posture are soft and languid and very feminine. Also, her features invite speculation by the viewer. I can imagine a young woman enjoying this or an older woman looking back on her youth.

I've never gotten the difference between the two. Please to be explaining.

For me, it's about purpose as well as style. Paintings are generally either sketchy to capture a moment or rendered thoroughly to represent a grand theme. Illustrations are more formulaic or stylized, and their purpose is to emote a particular reaction or grab attention.

That's why guys like Rockwell I consider to be incredibly talented graphic artists, while paintings like that one of the 1913 auto the other day belonged on a poster of magazine cover rather than an art gallery.

181 Leave it to the feds to mess up something that businesses all over America get right.

I suppose congratulations are in order if you've never had trouble with a corporate phone tree. I've never known one to work right; they seem calculated to get you to give up and leave. Nortel was from Canada, and they were the pioneers.

At my pharmacy, they joke about it. There is no local input into the prompts, and pharmacists never meet the people in charge. There is one button they can push to set the process off, and that's all the control they have. It loses "automatic" refills, lies about contacting prescribers, and sometimes gets in a bad mood and calls to ask if you want something refilled that isn't supported by insurance timing, auto-generating a denial.

If you think it's only the federal government that can't handle this, your retirement is going to be long and frustrating. This is the world we have programmed for ourselves, in our cubicles in the basement where we get to call ourselves "engineers."

Oh, no, I don't think it's only the ferals. But businesses often do get it right -- in my experience, anyway. Usually they have an option where if you press 0 a few times you can get to a human. Dunno if this would work with SS; I might try it if the prompt still can't recognize "1."

196 My neighbors are an elderly couple of who are very left wing. They have a lawn sign for every Democrat candidate running for office every election. Dude used to be a college PERFESSER. To set the stage.

Yet, every 4th of July they have a big BBQ where everyone in the 'nabe is invited to drop by. And as long as I've lived there, every car they've owned has been Big 3. He even jokes with me that I need to ditch those foreign cars I own and buy American.

I think they honestly don't understand what the left means today. Because they definitely don't hate America, they're pretty cool people. But they're still stuck in 1990 where Democrats just want slightly higher taxes to fund more social programs.

And I think there are a ton of people like them out there.

Municipals pay out less and so only really start making sense if you're in a fairly high income bracket. A corporate tax rate(if the relevant tax rate) favors federal debt, which also has less bankruptcy risk.

Because it highlights the lie of fiat currency. The currency is worth x becuz Govt says so.

The mumbo jumbo of the Fed allows a) big banks to rake in some arbitrage profits, b) allows for control over the economy by raising or lowering interest rates through indirect means, c) lets the Treasury Department off the hook for massive deficits because the T-Bills, notes, etc. are distributed throughout the banking system as 'reserves'. Balance sheet cleansing as the liability for the Treasury becomes an 'asset' for the Fed Reserve and so on.

Only a taxpaying investor buys tax free bonds, and most of these funds are not taxpayers (their beneficiaries are), so those investors wouldn't ordinarily buy tax free debt.

Yes, I realize the national debt is more than our GDP. That's been a hot-button issue ever since PDJT/Resident Joey blew up the deficit.

Last question: taxing versus borrowing versus printing money at will. "Modern Monetary Theory" was used to do exactly as you say, which is to inflate the economy by printing money, and the citizens began to bitch about the price of food and gasoline.

Surely influenced by the Quaker Meeting Houses in close proximity in and around the county seat, the local Unitarian Universalist had (maybe still has) the white women confessions of privilege & working list of sacrifices to be made.

Supporters of those peaceful gatherings of a few years ago, continued willing supporters for the future.

It's coming.
Be prepared.

Good for the vigilantes.

336 GOP senators signal that only way out of Ukraine-Russia war likely is ‘negotiated settlement’
"That’s probably where this thing ends up," said Sen. J.D. Vance.

Thanks unbelievably to Marco Rubio. Has this guy had some sort of epiphany?

337 Not a term I'd ever heard or read before, so I looked it up. If I'm looking at the proper definition - it doesn't apply to the people I'm describing, because most of them don't even attend services. I don't either.

Ok. Are you describing nominal Christians that were raised in the tradition but don't believe in it other than what is deemed socially acceptable in their social circles.

Churchians do attend church but mainly for socializing, networking, etc. but don't let the tenets of the faith interfere with whatever sinning they want to do. Pascal's wager types.

The Cathedral types want utopia on Earth and use religion to try to bring that about. They worship humanism instead of the Lord and invert the relationship between man and Lord.

The only settlement Putin should settle for is Zelenskyy drinks a Polonium Tea and the entire country becomes part of Russia.

340 Ok. Are you describing nominal Christians that were raised in the tradition but don't believe in it other than what is deemed socially acceptable in their social circles.

Most of the people around me - which I think fairly well describes society in general - don't claim a religion in any way. What they have as far as a worldview pretty much is what benefits them. They don't steal because the consequences are too high - not because of a belief in not stealing.

That is most people now. I suspect it has been for a long, long time. Even when church was more popular - and I was forced to attend as a kid - I could see that most of the adults around me didn't think about it. They just accepted it. That preacher could have told them anything - and they would have swallowed it whole.

341 what a lovely work! It's sensitive but also technically correct.

I'd love to see it IRL to note all the variations of hue in the "white" areas

342 48 I like this. It looks more like an 'illustration' than a 'painting,' but it's nice.

Would hang.

I think I see what you mean. This artwork is not on the scale of the Wyeth masterpiece we saw yesterday. It is very sweet.
