My boss told me to take a look at a co-worker's paper. I was shocked at how it read, like someone who had English as a second language. The syntax was wrong, the writing was juvenile...it was the product of a Ph.D in Education.

Like 4 yr colleges, there are some good ones and bad ones and you can find some good instructors at bad ones and bad instructors at good ones.
Large state schools are not where I would send a kid for a 4 yr degree as far too many of them have massive lecture classes and inferior teaching by a lot of TAs that have no interest in teaching but in becoming the sage on the stage.
Best way to avoid that if your kid goes to one is to use CLEP or AP to avoid those type entry classes.

They're also very useful for sending your kids to instead of a university when they haven't figured out what the hell they want to be when they grow up. They can get the required academic credits out of the way without pissing your $$ away changing majors four times in the first two years.

My kids figured out that for distribution courses outside their majors, they could take the same course from the CC in town cheaper, then transfer in the credit. And all of them except the oldest (who had money thrown at him) started in CC and then transferred in to 4-year college.
