Joe Manchin: Here's an Idea I Just Thought Up and Definitely Have Not Been Focus Grouping for Months: How About I Run Third Party with Mitt Romney as My Running Mate?

The Calvin Coolidge Project
@TheCalvinCooli1

Just in: Joe Manchin says he would ask Mitt Romney to be VP should he run as a third party candidate in 2024 saying, "Hypothetically, if I was picking my running mate, really who I would ask right now is Mitt Romney," He mentioned former Senator Rob Portman as a VP choose too.

Rob Portman? They think there are enough fans of Northern Exposure to swing an election?

This would be a net win for Trump. The thing is, all of the NeverTrump Republicans and neoliberal corporatists who would vote for a Democrat ticket just because Noted Severe Conservative Mitt Romney was the undercard are already voting for third party candidates, not voting, or voting for Biden.

The only group of people who would switch to vote for this ticket in large numbers are disaffected Democrats, and disappointed neoliberal Biden "Republicans."

Theory:

Manchin didn't get rolled. He knew exactly what would happen, and he tried to use the predictable series of events as virtue signaling to the voters of WV that he was a fighter for them to help bolster his chances for re-election.

It just didn't work because it was plainly obvious that he was a failure of a negotiator, if he were honest, and more likely a dishonest hack who was never going to deliver for his voters.

That's why he ended up announcing that he wasn't running again after that debacle.

It's why I vote 3rd party most of the time, to be honest.

Since NC seems to be less of a secure thing for Trump than SC, though...I'll probably have to vote for one of the two major parties. The House seat is safely red, though, so I'll probably find some kind of Libertarian to vote for there.

Trump, for better or for worse, has an extremely devoted base of about 35% of the electorate. The more candidates that jump in, the lower the bar to winning EVs becomes. I think the last estimate in a two elderly man race is 48% for a Republican. Right now with Kenndey, West and Greens, it's like 44%. Throw Manchin and Mittens in there, it could be sub-40%. The fewer Rs that need to "come home", the better for Trump.

Up through the 80s the two parties in the US were essentially coalitions of interests. The Dems could encompass everything from Berkley antiwar hippies though Union Labor at defense plants, and the Republicans could be everything from NE Rockafellers through western farm and ranch interests.
I think it was the national parties handling so much money because the local candidates and donors had such limits put on them that froze the parties into large power blocks.
McConnell's main claim to fame is that he had the ability to direct and withhold money for reelection, for example. That means he has huge control over the conduct and philosophy of the party

The fiscal matters matter more on disbarment proceedings. Perjury would as well but that would require charges and conviction. Easier to discipline on financial shenanigans. Same reason cops use possession of a firearm as a felon or drugs to arrest when they know the gangsta did more--possession requires no intent and is self proving by a search of the individual.

Hate to tell you Catch 33 but the Constitution itself is silent on political parties and pretty much all the Founders despised them during the Convention.

So relatively speaking, political parties themselves are not 'Constitutional' and certainly not the current two party oligopoly which is reinforced in every state by election laws.

The sad truth is every blessed system of government fails if the people running it are self centered assholes believing themselves to be demi gods beyond the reach of the population.

Of course everybody who didn't like Trump immediately decided he was just running around town grabbing vajs by the hundreds. Does that suited their narrative.

Yes, the GOP voters were more for Teddy than Taft. Taft was a poor choice by Teddy to run as his successor. But the critical amendments allowing the income tax and the direct election of Senators clearly had the support of the people of the US. Neither can really be blamed on even Teddy and certainly not Wilson.

The bipartisan progressive movement arose because rich guys and corporations had run wild since the Reconstruction in the political system and unsecured ballot systems encouraged massive fraud.

He started off addressing “the black members of this board,” and launched into a tirade we have all heard before and will hear again, though we’re hearing it a bit more often these days. “It would be absolute treason, after 250 years of the Holocaust, of what we went through in chattel slavery, to allow people to come and take our suffering, put a few shekels on it, and benefit off of what we went through,” said the man, himself African-American. “This is the United States of America. We were the ones who went through the Holocaust. There was no Jewish suffering in this place—in fact, they helped to bring us over here, to the native Americans and the Hispanics.… It is treason to your ancestors to let someone take your suffering, and to do this to benefit them to tell a story that is ahistorical.”

Thus rendering the conflict of interest love nest nastiness moot. Of course no receipts exist to support this claim.

Unlawful in GA as well as unethical according to the bar's legal ethics. Imagine for a moment that it was not public money at issue but a trust fund administered by Fani. You could not spend money of that trust fund for personal gain regardless of how you structured the transactions.

I hope so and it makes sense to me, the layman, on interpreting the meta of this particular proceeding, but the law can bracket decisions in ways I cannot fathom. To a rational person, this seems like a slam dunk call. To the "legal profession" there's always all the emanations and penumbras that end up telling me to get stuffed.

And since this revolves around Trump, I see Courts going out of their way to accommodate most parties to continue their prosecutions of him.
