McConnell Advises Republican Senators to Vote "No" on Amnesty Bill He Personally Negotiated

This party must be abandoned. We cannot continue like this, where we never even get to fight the Democrats -- we're constantly having to fight our own "leaders" to please, please, for once, take our side in a debate.

But they won't: The GOP Establishment loathes, detests, hates, despises its own voters. We are, in fact, Deplorables in their eyes.

Facing a torrent of criticism from conservatives, Senate Republicans on Monday resisted advancing on a bipartisan proposal intended to clamp down on illegal border crossings, signaling a likely defeat in Congress that would leave leaders with no clear path to approve wartime aid for Ukraine.
In a dramatic turnaround, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell recommended to GOP senators in a closed-door meeting that they vote against the first procedural vote Wednesday, according to two people familiar with the meeting who were not authorized to talk publicly about it and spoke anonymously.
It came just hours after the Kentucky Republican had urged colleagues on the Senate floor that "it's now time for Congress to take action." But McConnell has struggled to marshal his conference to support the package of $118 billion package of border enforcement policy and funding for Ukraine, Israel and other U.S. allies.
Senate negotiators on Sunday night released the text of the bill, hoping that the details would win over skeptics. The carefully negotiated deal represented a rightward shift in Senate negotiations over border measures, yet the backlash was still intense from conservatives. They savaged the border policy proposal as insufficient, with former President Donald Trump leading the charge.
"This is a gift to the Democrats. And this sort of is a shifting of the worst border in history onto the shoulders of Republicans," Trump, the likely Republican presidential nominee, said Monday on "The Dan Bongino Show." "They want this for the presidential election so they can now blame the Republicans for the worst border in history."

Lankford is the missing piece of the puzzle here. As recently as yesterday, he went on Fox and Friends and continued to defend the bill, criticizing Republicans who were opposing it. He was generous enough to say that if conservatives were fighting against the idea of allowing 5,000 illegal aliens to be released into the country each day, "We can do 3,000." The backlash against his plan back in his home state led some members of the Oklahoma Republican Party to hold a meeting to discuss censuring him, though the measure was not officially passed. Others took to social media calling on Lankford to resign.

McConnell's determination to ram through yet another Comprehensive Amnesty will have several terrible aftereffects.

On the strictly political side, it gives Biden and Schumer what they actually wanted all along: A way to blame Republicans for the Democrats' border catastrophe. Democrats will claim the solution to the open border crisis was at hand, but Republicans rejected it for political reasons.

Indeed, turncoat "Republican" liberal James Lankford is going out on all the political talk shows making exactly that case.

On the policy side, Democrats will now insist that this weak "deal" establish the contours of any future "deal." In other words: The Republicans have announced that they seek only the tiniest breadcrumbs in exchange for mass amnesty; why would Democrats ever agree to offer more than breadcrumbs in any "deal"? McConnell has committed us, out to the medium future, to sharing the Democrats' Amnesty First, Security Last (or Never) agenda.

The "deal," by the way, contained a Very Special Betrayal for conservatives: The bill would make the ultra-liberal DC Circuit Court the only court empowered to decide questions about immigration and border enforcement. We've seen some good rulings coming out of the Fifth Circuit on the border; this "deal" would take all cases away from any conservative-tilted court and give them all to the leftwing DC circuit.

This is a "deal." You guys are excited by this "deal," right?

Let this be a lesson to any Republican stupid enough to go out on a limb to do McConnnell's dirty work: he will leave you out to dry, then cut off the limb you're standing on to save his own behind.
Make no mistake: McConnell picked Lankford for this kamikaze mission because 1) Lankford isn't up for re-election until 2028, and 2) Lankford didn't have the experience or wits to accomplish anything substantive against Schumer and Biden, whose goals on immigration and Ukraine perfectly align with McConnell's.
It was vintage Mitch McConnell: work feverishly behind the scenes on behalf of his donors and the Uniparty to fleece taxpayers, pick an unsuspecting dupe to bear the public burden of carrying McConnell's slop bucket, then throw the poor dupe right under the bus when everything goes sideways.

The bill is written specifically to prevent a president from shutting the border until 2029. It says so right in the bill.

The whole idea is that the GOP wants to take away the biggest reason to vote for Trump.

The easy red state Rs should then all be targeted for elimination. While we may need to put up with a Main squish, we don't need to put up with an OK or TX squish. And if you vote yes on McConnell to stay leader, that is EXACTLY what you are.

It's better than that - when you hit 5,000 people in a day, you just direct the excess to an official port of entry, where they can come in anyway.

Also, another provision of the bill states that the 5,000 limit only applies to people from countries continuous to the US. So, the limit is 5,000 Mexicans or Canadians - unlimited numbers of Afghanis or Venezuelans can come in.

One caveat I have to attach to Abbott's admirable work in sealing off Eagle Pass, and it is a big one: Nearly all the rest of the Texas border is still basically wide open, and illegals are continuing to pour through it.

The Eagle Pass standoff was useful insofar as it embarrassed the Biden regime and produced a show of unity among GOP governors. But let's not pretend they've "solved" the problem.

What has surprised them is that many are measuring success on the number of illegal crossings by foreigners. In fact, what this bill really does is prevent a re-elected President Trump from ACTUALLY closing the border. So, this is a success for the GOPe as it would corner Trump.

That's been my experience everywhere, every time. I lived in an apartment complex with a bunch of illegals and became friends with some of them. They'd invite me to drink a beer with them occasionally. Seven to ten men in a two bedroom apartment, working and sleeping in shifts. You learn a lot.

They're sending their money home and they're headed back that way, too, unless they can find an obese white woman to marry and become a U.S. citizen.

In general they couldn't care less about the quality of work that they do because they're either not going to be there next week or they'll just get on with another crew.

In the past, we'd have some failure theater with the bill being passed by the narrowest of margins because of a handful of "moderate" GOPers. The party would gaslight us, talk tough, and hope we'd forget about it by November.

Now, though, they're a little shaken, because they've suffered a few electoral losses due to pissing off (and on) the base, and they KNOW Trump is a loose bull in a china shop, and will mercilessly call the GOPe out and vocally campaign against them for this kind of betrayal.

I had a chance to sign the first legislation against the tranny revolution, but I chickened out because I was afraid of the NCAA saying bad things about me and removing one of their tournaments for the state. So I vetoed a bill that would protect girls from being seriously injured by boys pretending to be girls. Then you rubes who want to protect girls and stuff started a backlash so I did a 180 and signed an almost identical bill, although I said it was improved by my veto.

319 Iowans (of whom I am one) have been sending Grassley’s desiccated corpse to Washington for over 3 decades and he’s accomplished nothing in particular. Given the chance to vote for someone who gives a damn in the 2022 primary, Grassley won with over 80% of the vote.

We’re getting what we deserve, and we’re getting it good and hard.

Grassley hasn't been phenomenal, but he's been more reliably conservative than many other Republican senators. He's had a few moments here and there. Iowa was, until recently, a fairly purple state, split between Grassley and Harkin(!) for senators.

As an Iowan myself, my bigger concern is Grassley supporting his family members in running for elected offices...and speculation is he'll try to get one to replace him. Fuck that noise; no family dynasties.

Trump's first budget proposal had a number of cuts in it. The GOP controlled House and Senate ignored it.

Simply put, there is no constituency for smaller budgets. The GOP borrows and spends and the Dems tax, borrow, and spend. The Dems tax mainly to punish their political opponents. The GOP occasionally raises taxes to support giveaways to corporations (and in states to education etc. to buy votes).

The national government is going to crash--whether it is fiscal only or fiscal-plus war (internal or external). The question is exactly when and how bad it will be.

What is on the other side of the discontinuity to come remains to be seen.

It also ignores that McConnell has been for open borders and amnesty for decades. How many times has the GOPe made a push for "comprehensive immigration reform" (i.e., amnesty without any real border security)? Many. Remember W's try at it?

Anyone who thinks McConnell doesn't 100% support the "deal" despite his having to reverse course is a fool.

Stay away from Fargo and it's a really good quality of life.
Some of the same problems as larger states but in much smaller doses, so easier to ignore. and, for the most part the people here value freedom and aren't in a rush to embrace progressive changes. I guess we are backwards in that respect because lots of us still figure if it ain't broke it don't need fixin'.
