REZOLUTIONZZZ

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this Silicon Valley millionaire, Bryan Johnson, who calls himself the World's Most Analyzed Man, because he pays a literal team of medical specialists to monitor his health every single day.

His goal: To test and evaluate all methods of slowing or reversing aging that he can find in medical literature.

His motive: I believe that he believes that, as we approach the AI Singularity, medical science will discover a way to arrest/slow or even reverse aging within the foreseeable future. Therefore, he believes that among us will be some of the last unfortunate people to die of pure "old age." If we can just live to the day that breakthrough happens, we can have our lives extended another 40-60 years, and then, mostly likely, in the following 40-60 years, AI will figure out how to stop aging completely.

That's why his motto is "Don't Die." He wants everyone to cling to life to get to that aging-reversal singularity.

The New York Times wrote him up.

Is he an idiot? A visionary? A little from column A, a little from column B?

Probably the latter.

"Ready, on three," Jamie Love said to the group of hikers as they huddled for a photo. "One, two, three ..."

"Don't die!" they shouted in unison.

The dozen or so strangers were gathered at the foot of Temescal Canyon Trail along the Pacific coast in Los Angeles on a cool Saturday morning in mid-December. Several of them, including Ms. Love, 38, who had organized the outing, wore black T-shirts with the bold white text, "DON'T DIE."

The hikers had come together with a shared goal: to extend their life spans through diet, sleep, exercise and whatever technologies might come along.

Not present was the spiritual leader of the gathering, the internet celebrity and centimillionaire tech founder turned longevity guru Bryan Johnson. In the past year, Mr. Johnson has arguably taken the lead in the race among Silicon Valley rich guys going to extremes in a quest to live forever. (Move over, Messrs. Bezos, Zuckerberg and Thiel.) Now he's turning that longevity mission -- and the online infamy he has earned because of it -- into a lifestyle business, selling supplements and prepackaged meals to less-rich people who would also like to live for a very long time. The hike, one of more than 30 "Don't Die Meet-Ups" around the world that day, was a cross between community-building and a guerrilla marketing tactic.

Mr. Johnson's deal, in a nutshell: In 2021, he began spending $2 million a year, by his own account, to measure every aspect of his body, from lipid levels to urination speed to brain plaque, with the goal of reversing his aging process. He called it Project Blueprint.

Every day, between 7 and 11 a.m., he eats the same three vegan meals: "Nutty Pudding" (a blend of nuts, seeds, berries and pomegranate juice), "Super Veggie" (black lentils topped with broccoli and cauliflower) and a third, rotating dish consisting of vegetables, roots and nuts. He exercises for an hour every morning and takes up to 111 pills a day. (His pharyngeal muscles may be the strongest of all.)

In the video I link below, he says he's looked for every type of food reputed to have longevity benefits, and only eats the most nutrient-dense food in existence. "Every calorie on my plate has to fight for its right to go into my body," he pronounces. He's putting it archly but he's quite serious.

Mr. Johnson claims that his regimen (or "protocol," as he calls it) has already slowed his speed of aging, giving him, at 46, the maximum heart rate of a 37-year-old, the gum inflammation of a 17-year-old and the facial wrinkles of a 10-year-old, according to his website. He publicizes his test results so anyone can see images of his bowels or learn the duration of his nighttime erections. His "biological age," he claimed until recently, is 42.5, according to one measurement of changes in DNA over time known as an epigenetic clock. In other words, he has spent about three years shaving off -- maybe -- a little more than three years.

If the original goal of Project Blueprint was to perfect his health, Mr. Johnson now describes it as preparing humanity to thrive in a world dominated by artificial intelligence. Thus the new slogan: "Don't Die."

In an interview, Mr. Johnson said he didn't care what present-day people thought of him. "I'm more interested in what people of the 25th century think of me," he said. "The majority of opinions now represent the past."

Mr. Johnson is gifted at getting attention online and from the press.

Mr. Johnson has an almost Trumpian ability to stay in the news. Since 2020, he has been the subject of five articles on Bloomberg documenting his quixotic pursuits: the brain-reading helmet developed by his company Kernel; his bid to become, as he has put it elsewhere, the "most measured person in human history"; his decision to receive blood plasma from his 17-year-old son and pass his own along to his 70-year-old father; and a recent round of experimental gene therapy in Honduras. In September, Time photographed Mr. Johnson in his private gym, naked but for a carefully positioned kettlebell -- an instant meme. The New York Post has gleefully followed his every move, running more than a dozen articles on Mr. Johnson in the past year, including three about his penis.

Fani Willis' gigolo says "Hold muh beer."

On social media, where he has more than 700,000 combined followers on X and Instagram, he knows how to trawl for attention. He lists his stringent requirements for a romantic partner (8:30 p.m. bedtime, "no small talk," "must give plasma") and compares himself to religious figures ("Jesus fed bread and alcohol, impairing and aging/I will feed you nutrients that awake and create life"). His flat manner and uncanny looks have drawn comparisons to "American Psycho"'s Patrick Bateman, a "'Lord of the Rings' elf," a vampire and a "jacked cyborg." One podcaster called him "blood daddy." He likes to pose in crop tops.

Now, Mr. Johnson said, after three years of self-experimentation -- which he called "Phase 1" of Blueprint -- he's ready for "Phase 2": helping others replicate his process. Late last year, he began selling Blueprint-branded olive oil.

Of course. Just in terms of supplements -- his Blueprint plan calls for several thousand dollars worth of supplements per month (he takes something like 110 supplements per day). The guy in the below video avoids the priciest and most obscure of the recommended supplements, and he still spends a thousand bucks for a one month experiment.

I mean, sure, he's a flake. But who knows: his basic notion might be true.

The content out of the way, I thought people might want to talk about the resolutions they'd made, and how they're sticking to them, or not. And maybe talking about them would provide some of that social accountability they say helps people stick to plans.

Here were my resolutions, and how they're going:

1. Stop wasting my time watching YouTube videos.

I gave up TV a while ago and was proud I did. In the past year I realized I have not actually gained anything, because I watch more repetitive, time-wasting YouTube videos and podcasts than I ever watched actual TV shows.

I started out pretty good, as one does... and then backslid. I'm not watching as many YouTube videos, but it's still way too many.

Which hurts my next resolution:

2. Read more. Try for at least a book per week.

I started out well on this one and then really backslid. Part of the problem might be that I've picked some books that aren't grabbing me to start with. I guess it's time to put those aside and start other ones.

But the main problem is just: Reading is boring and I am stupid.

Gotta get cracking on that.

3. Watch less pron.

I am actually nailing this one. 9 out of 10. I don't know how I did it, except I just stopped for a week and it "fell out of the schedule," if you know what I mean.

I mean, not completely. But enough that it's no longer a problem.

4. Start exercising, starting with calisthenics and my set of dumbbells and then eventually shifting back to barbell training.

This one I'm also keeping to. So far, 8 out of 10.

I can offer some advice to anyone who wants to exercise and work out but who can't do it.

I have told myself -- and told people in this GAINZZZ thread -- that I would start working out again. That I would do the 100-pushup-a-day challenge.

And I kept failing. I failed because when I would do pushups, or try to do a pull up (just an assisted pull up, I'm nowhere near the level to do a real pull-up), I would be so disgusted and ashamed at how weak and feeble I had gotten over two or three years of zero exercise that I would just stop so I wouldn't be confronted with my disgusting frailty.

So this last time I knew that I was going to face that again, and I told myself the truth, which is:

Yes, you've gotten very weak.

But you also know that when someone is retraining, they can regain their old muscle at a fairly decent rate. It's faster to regain muscle than to gain it for the first time. (And if someone is completely untrained, they can make what are called "noobie gains," which are the most rapid gains known to anyone.)

Basically, the weaker one is, the easier it is to make improvements. People who are very well-trained and at, say, 96% of their maximum level of musculature, have to fight and strain for months just to add another pound to the bar. But untrained people -- or detrained people, like me -- can add strength pretty quickly, because we're so, so far below maximum level of musculature.

Anyway, that's all true, and not just a trick I played on myself, and once I accepted that yeah, I'm weak as shit now but can make significant GAINZZZ in weeks and months, I was able to motivate myself to start getting some damn GAINZZZ again.

I started before Christmas and now have actual visible GAINZZZ. So that's just three or four weeks. And seriously, I was in really, really bad shape. I still am, but it's improving.

They say you only need to do two workouts per week to add muscle (though doing three or four or five would add muscle faster).

Assuming that one of these workouts is on the weekend when time is more available, you'd just have to find one weekday where you could spend an 80 minutes working out. (You wouldn't want to do the workouts on back to back days, because you'd want to recover, though you could, if needed, do all Upper Body work on Saturday, and all lower body work on Sunday).

One interesting thing I found out, which I wish I knew three years ago when I stopped working out, is that just to maintain the muscle you have only requires five working sets per muscle group per week. That's less than an hour and a half per week.

Anyway, maybe that will help people who are thinking about getting started working out.

You're going to start out disgustingly weak. But unless you're already in shape, then, everyone starts out disgustingly weak. It's not a big deal. You will no longer be weak in a month, and you will begin getting decently strong in 3 months.

At least, that's my plan. I think that's right but I'll let you know.

5. Keep to some kind of healthy diet and stop snacking all the time.

On the "keep to a healthy diet," I'm doing pretty well, though I'm eating more than maybe I should for the GAINZZZ.

On the snacking: I started off strong, cutting out any snacks, but they have slowly crept back into the diet. And snacks are a big problem.

Nearly a quarter of the calories U.S. adults consume comes from snacks, according to a new study published in PLOS Global Public Health.

Americans consume an average of 400 to 500 calories in snacks every day, which generally are lacking in protein, vitamins and minerals, the study found.

That's more than the average breakfast -- which is 300 to 400 calories.

Snacks also comprise about one-third of daily added sugar consumed by most adults.

I have all these "low carb" snacks from Quest Nutrition. I eat them because I lie to myself and tell them they're healthy. They're not, not really. I really have to go back to avoiding those and just eating a hard-boiled egg if I'm hungry.

I've seen claims that more protein you eat, the less hungry you'll be, because the main point of hunger is to tell you to eat protein. So when you're low on protein, you'll just want to eat. I'm finding this to be pretty true -- eating high-protein does reduce my desire for snacks, sweets, and junk food.

But when I don't have protein: I go right to the Quest "low carb" cheese crackers.

On my "eating healthier:" I'm eating a ton of eggs, which is a diet plan I've wanted to do for years. They're cheap, they take fifteen minutes to cook and eat. For my other meal I'll have a hamburger or bratwurst or some other meat.

And I think I'm seeing some benefits. Cutting out at least some of the crap I was eating seems to have reduced the total amount of foods that were provoking inflammation. I've had a runny nose and filled-up sinuses my whole life -- but now that I'm eating mostly eggs and meat, my nose is almost always clear.

I'm not sure about this one. I may be making a connection in my head that isn't real.

Eating more carnivore and healthier: I'm about an 8 out of 10. As far as actual meals go, I'm avoiding trash food like McDonald's most of the time.

But as far as avoiding snacks: 5 out of 10. Okay, but needs improvement.

My last resolution:

6. Write my damn book.

I have started and abandoned this so many times. This last go-round, I started out well again, and then... stopped.

1 out of 10. Another embarrassing failure. Such a failure I wanted to keep this one off the list to not admit it to anyone.

Anyway, those are my resolutions.

What are yours, and how are you sticking to them? And if you've let them fall by the wayside, will you be refocusing on them?

Or will you be a bitchmade pussy while the rest of us are getting SICK GAINZZZZ?

The gym is a dangerous place, man. Be careful out there.

Have you tried just keeping a goal? 30 pages a day? 5% a day?

It's what I do. Keeps me motivated and going. I backslide from time to time as well, but this gets me onboard with the exercise and keeps me there for longer.

5% a day, and suddenly, a week later, you're 1/3 of the way through a book.

Essentially, force a schedule. Even an hour a day will get you places. "This is my work hour on the book," every day could help. I suggest earlier in the day rather than later. Earlier, and it's done, and you don't have to worry about it.

63 When it comes to reading more, most of the BookTubers who talk about the subject agree that it's a developed skill, just like regular exercise. Start small (15 minutes a day or a chapter a day or whatever) and then work your way up to longer sessions. Books with short chapters or short scenes within chapters are great because you can easily pause and come back to it.

We--as a society--have lost A LOT of our attention span thanks to the enormous entertainment options at our fingertips. Reading retrains both the mind and body to *focus.*

70 I don't do the "resolutions" thing because I don't find it to be a meaningful motivator. I am also not pursuing GAINZ, but I am pursuing LOSSEZ, starting last month. I am fat and weak and I know that if I want to live past 50, I need to do something about that. And since that seems like something I *should* want, I decided to just get on with it.

I'm doing it the old-fashioned way, I guess: diet and exercise. I set myself a daily calorie budget of 1100, and I usually hit it. Some days I'm quite a bit lower, but rarely am I higher except for Fridays (Shabbos, which is a family celebration - so I don't go nuts, but I don't worry about it). I cut refined/added sugars to zero and lean heavily toward protein and vegetables when I spend my calorie budget.

I started walking at least one mile a day, or using my stationary bike in bad weather. When it was snowing, I shoveled instead and it was a better workout, so I will be getting weight machine next month to add weight to my routine since my condition has very moderately improved.

I am making slow but steady progress, losing 3-5 lbs per week. I am down a notch and change on my belt.

I hate every minute of it, but it has to be done.

That was stupider than usual because it was weirdly phrased. I guess she meant "Biden cares about the people of Texas" and so will call out Governor Abbott , instead of having it sound like Biden will call out Abbott because Abbott cares about the people of Texas which makes Abbott sound very different than many Governors.

A pair of 5 pound dumbbells and a pair of 10 to start. Find a YouTube channel that does 10-30 minute workouts. Carve out the time of the day and just do it. 30 minutes a day.

Yup, I am considering my options for when I add weights in February. My first concern is that I was in such bad shape that I didn't want to go there immediately. I've gotten a bit better, so am ready to add it.

I am leaning toward a weight machine so I can do a variety of things with low risk of catastrophic injury since I live alone and don't want to drop something on myself and end up trapped. Low risk of that with dumbbells, but much greater if I want to do things like bench presses or leg workouts, which I probably do.

107 Lots of billionaires seem to be chasing that immortality dragon. Jeff Bezos, for example, poured an estimated $90 million into lifespan-extending research but, too bad for him, the research dead-ended, no pun intended. Well, okay, maybe a little intended.

With my wife's passing a little over a year ago, I'm keenly aware of my own mortality. I'm not morbid about it but one of the takeaways from her loss is the realization that life really is a precious gift, to take nothing and no one for granted, to stay in the day, and to revel in those occasional special moments. There are several things I want to accomplish, and I pray for the time it takes to achieve them. I also ask that when I'm staring down the barrel at whatever kills me, that I face it with a certain amount of courage and grace.

But these people who want to live forever? They're fools. There is a God and the soul exists. We already do.

125 100 Yup, I am considering my options for when I add weights in February.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 26, 2024 04:21 PM (mwCIn)

========

I don't have a machine, just the dumbbells (my heavies are 25 pounds each, my lights 10 each). I have no idea what I could bench press.

However, I look like I go to the gym pretty much every day. I also look like I don't watch what I eat at all, which is not...underwear model trajectory.

The dumbbells are cheaper. Maybe you'll dedicate yourself with a higher initial investment to make sure it was worthwhile (it's at least how Dolley kept herself going on the Peloton bike for so long).

Now being healthy for as long as you can? Absolutely! I exercise obsessively, really enjoy it, and I’m all the better for it.

My health-related resolution every year for the past 20+…. Between January 1 and mid-March (my birthday specifically) I keep a very strict diet with no cheating or splurging whatsoever allowed. I continue my exercise of course. Without fail I’m always back to my optimum weight every year when my birthday rolls around…. And I can enjoy a birthday dinner out, no guilt, and don’t feel old and fat on that day but rather lean and mean!

When I decided I had to start this last month, the other side of it was, "you have to start this right damn now." I know myself well enough to know that "start this tomorrow" means "start this never."

So that day, I took a walk and cut out sugar and then the next day I wrote out a more complete plan for what I was trying to accomplish. But I started it right then.

141 His "biological age," he claimed until recently, is 42.5, according to one measurement of changes in DNA over time known as an epigenetic clock. In other words, he has spent about three years shaving off -- maybe -- a little more than three years.

Meh.

That 3 year extension of life is exactly the same that every single legit health regimen can give you.

Heck, for literally decades I've heard that your longevity is a genetic dealio and that you can extend your life by doing X but in reality it's no more than a 2-3 year extension.

The benefit is in staying healthy as possible up to the point you die. So, you can enjoy your life instead of lying around in a bed.

It's always the same. Jogging craze - 2 to 3 year extension. Mediterranean Diet - 2-3 year extension. Etc.

Eat a good diet. Exercise. Moderation with alcohol. No smoking. Etc.

This guy's going to make a lot of money, but he ain't a nut and certainly no visionary.

Or maybe, I'm a visionary . All morons and ettes send me one...no! ten thousand dollars each for telling you how to live 3 years longer. Make the check out to naturalfake Visionary Longevity Enterprises.

I plan on using my SCUBA certs to dive in the Great Lakes this year. Otherwise, didn't make any.

I got diverticulitis at the end of 2022. It left scar tissue* that caused pain anytime I used my core, so that basically stopped my lifting. After a YEAR, the pain is almost gone. (Still there, but much improved.)

One benefit? I got sick of being a fatbody and started walking in July of last year. My heartrate had dropped so much by August that the nurse had to re-check.

Pretty soon, I'm going to start some light lifting and see how much I have improved, pain-wise. I already discovered how much my strength had dropped in previous attempts at judging my pain.

Now I'm not even going to push limits. I'll start slow and ramp up.

Dumbbells a very versatile. Any barbell exercise can be done using DBs with the benefit of forcing core engagement for stability. The five key lifts - bench press, shoulder press, rows, squats and dead lifts will give you a more productive, full body workout than any machine. I say that as a long time lifter. 185 In terms of diet, I've decided on a new tactic.

The previous tactic was to try and go extreme by eating nothing until dinner, eating that and no more. I used to be able to do that. In fact, I lost 20 pounds doing that 4-5 years ago.

But, every time I've tried since, I've failed within days of starting.

So, I'm going on and off. One day is light. Lunch is a bowl of mixed nuts. Dinner is what Dolley makes. The next day is heavier. A breadless sandwich and the same bowl of mixed nuts. Dinner from Dolley.

It's still overall light, especially cutting down the extended lunches where I just kept going down to the pantry/fridge to grab one more thing, but I'm not as oppressively hungry for as long. Makes it more manageable.

192 Last July my BP was tested at 96/66 and my heart rate at 54 bpm. Not bad for 56. OTOH, I sacrificed much, much more than that Johnson guy. I gave up pot for 3 months. I'm not sure it was worth it - 100/70 and 60 bpm would be an acceptable trade off. :->

The other night the back patio was slickery and I was slightly (no hyperbole) high. I lost my footing but managed to just basically go straight down and bang my knee a bit. Mostly I was anticipating serious shoulder soreness from when I jerked my arm as I slipped. Nope, nothing. No soreness anywhere later. Do not mock the power of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol; embrace it.

I tend to accomplish it at night. Keeping reading until I hit that mark is never that hard, unless I'm reading something absurdly long, though I did read War and Peace in about 3 weeks doing it. That took effort.

But the smaller books? Latest was a little novel called Cranford. Took me about five days. I could read 20% of it in about an hour.

I have an out of control chocolate addiction that is fed by stress. Last year the stress was huge and I gained about twenty pounds. Now I'm trying to downsize. I've been riding my exercise bike every day but need to add other stuff. We have vinyl floors now and they are slippery and hard so push ups and sit ups are really uncomfortable. But at least my go to snack isn't chocolate now. It's usually cheese cubes or a spoonful of peanut butter. I'm not eating donuts for breakfast anymore either. Breakfast is apiece of toast with peanut butter and some cheese cubes and my glass of water. Not seeing a huge difference but still plugging away.

Back at the beginning of September, I signed onto a weight-loss program that was being hawked by the local conservative talk radio station. By October 30 I was down exactly 30 lbs. In the next month I lost another 10 (even despite Thanksgiving), and I've basically stayed there (except last week when not eating and flushing out my system for a colonoscopy led to me dropping another 5). Since the beginning of August, I'm down 50 lbs total, 6 inches off my waistline, and I don't feel the need to lose any more. My current goal is to maintain this weight throughout the year and beyond. Just gotta stick to my routine at this point.

Keep at it, fellow morons. If I can do it, you surely can.

This.

I can't help it, but I'm "data-driven." I like being able to see progress. I also tend to obsess over little changes, which is bad. I try to moderate this by have a fixed tracking ritual. I weigh myself twice a day and punch that into a spreadsheet. I then take a daily average and aggregate those into weekly averages, and look for the trend only in the weekly.

This is obsessive and weird, but I needed to impose some structure on what I'm doing and add that structure to the overall routine to keep myself from getting lost in minutia or feeling defeated when the number ticks up and instead of down.

I don't recommend that others do this, by the way - I acknowledge that it's weird and unnecessary - but it does work for me and since I do huge amount of data analysis for work, I know how to build it all out.

If you are into the Civil War, Shelby Foote's 3 volume "The Civil War: A Narrative" is very well done. A bit dated in parts due to its age, but readable.

404 "Twenty-eight percent of Gen Z adults — which the survey’s researchers specify as those ages 18 to 25 — identify as LGBTQ, according to a report released this week by the Public Religion Research Institute, or PRRI. That compares with 10% of all adults, 16% of millennials, 7% of Generation X, 4% of baby boomers and 4% of the Silent Generation, the institute found. "

Welcome to a world where judges in a Civil Court cite as official findings they couldn't officially prove in a criminal court.

They are probably holding off the criminal case until they get enough of the jury pool polluted with the idea that Trump raped an incoherent (homely) nutcase.

Spoiler alert: it won't matter.
Posted by: Heavy Meta

Didn't read all the comments, but a lot of aging is genetics. That is, you were born with it, or without it.
Good diet, excercise, etc. can add QUALITY to your years, and may add some time on the end.
But when your genetics tells your body to shut down, it shuts down.
Live forever? Well, not in this earthly realm.

416 I might go at least 18th century over the 19th for that low-energy living comparison. The 19th was characterized by new sources of energy and its distribution, even before electricity became a standard fixture. Coal, steamboats, railroads, the replacement of the wood hearth with the much more efficient stove, the laying on of town gas, kerosene for lighting instead of candles -- people thought they were living in a science fiction future.

421 I have some GAINZZZZ I can brag about. I finally finished my novel. It took seven years, but it's done. (It went through a lot of drafts over that time, plus I had to take breaks because, man, writing is HARD.

Anyway, it's now getting proofread. (The person I'm paying to proofread it has done it professionally.) After I make the corrections, I have to figure out how to use Amazon's self-publishing platform (or another self-publishing platform, if any of you have any recommendations). Then I have to come up with a title (I am TERRIBLE at titles) and then come up with a cover. I have no idea what I'm going to do for the cover since I completely blocked that out of my mind while I was writing.

So maybe not 100 percent finished. But hopefully I'll have something out there for sale by the end of 2024...

When my wife and I hit about thirty we invested in exercise equipment; stepper, treadmill, free weights, etc. For a few, maybe more, decades we've been very active.

She now looks mid 30's. I look mid 40's.

There's no magic pill except forcing your body to run at 75 mph every day (for a while) when it wants to run at 25 mph all the time.

Standard: See a Dr before doing anything remotely strenuous in life. Even breathing.

424 I have to admit I wish I was like Elijah and Enoch, the only two men who didn't die in Scripture.

Of course some believe they are also the two witnesses in the last days, so they get to come back from the glories of heaven and be murdered by the Antichrist (before they themselves resurrect and return to heaven)

So, uh Im good here with a nice natural quick death of getting hit by a train

426 Since Ive been doing keto for a long time a lot of people have comment that I looked like I was getting younger.

427 I lost 27 lbs last year and put about 5 or so back on over the holidays. Number 1 was to get that 5 back off and then lose another 5. Struggling on that one but getting better.

The biggie: I've wanted to start writing regularly. Making progress on a goal I have failed at every year for many, many years. This year, I tried writing a minimum of 5 minutes every single morning. So far so good. The best part of this approach is that 5 minutes is nothing. And once I gat going it is usually more like 15-30. Every piece is different and very diary like. Once the habit is seriously ingrained I'll start doing more deeply researched multi-day writing projects. Hopefully I can get to that starting in Feb.

428 Now that I've gone out of wrestling promo mode, good job on the gainzzz, boss.

The singularity is nonsense.

I introduce a race of beings in book #2 called The Rosicrucians. They are humans, nominally, who are over 200 years old. They're insane patchworks of human and robotic technology.

If you wanna know what I think about the whole "live forever" thing.

429 35 years ago I was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer and given a prognosis of 0-20 % chance of living 5 years. I spent a year among mortally ill people. Many wanted desperately to live, but their bodies were just too weary. Many others claimed not to give a damn, but their bodies ignored them and chugged along.

I'm deeply grateful that my body was one that chose to keep chugging. And my attitude since then has been, if my body wants something, I do my utmost to see that it happens. When it's happy, I'm happy.

My husband died last year, and it was a rugged year, but it was also a significant birthday for me, and I got some affirmations from docs that just made me shake my head. My dentist says I'm his only patient my age who has all her teeth and they're all in good shape. My DEXA scan says I have the spine of a woman in her twenties. My physical therapist can't believe I still have all my own joints. Yay. But you know what? I wake up every morning thanking God just to have another day. Even when I'm unhappy.

Good job. I started back (after a long time away from the fiction keyboard) by just writing every day. Not even five minutes. But the more I did, the more I liked it and wanted to do more.
