One in five young Americans has a positive view of 9/11 mastermind and Al Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden, according to disturbing results of a DailyMail.com poll.
The alarming survey also found three in 10 Gen Z voters believe the views of the anti-Semitic terrorist leader who slaughtered thousands of innocent people were a 'force for good'.
Family members of 9/11 victims said the findings are 'horrifying' and proof of a startling trend suggesting some in the younger generation are growing sympathetic to terrorists.
Another DailyMail.com poll in October found one in 10 voters under the age of 30 had a positive view of Hamas, despite the group's murderous attack on Israel that killed more than 1,300 men, women and children.

Twenge says that political leanings of generations can be influenced by the popularity of the president when that generation is in adolescence or young adulthood. For Gen X, that is largely defined by an unpopular Carter and a popular Republican president, Ronald Reagan.

Gen Xers are not as culturally conservative as boomers -- the generation that preceded them. But they're also not as culturally progressive as millennials and Gen Z.
Sean Trende, senior elections analyst for RealClearPolitics and himself a Gen Xer, described it as "almost like a cultural libertarianism."
"We call it culture war or cancel culture or wokeness or whatever -- I think Generation X is the one that that reverberates negatively with the most," he said.

* As a generation, I mean. Obviously there are lots of great examples from all generations, and terrible examples from Gen X.

But yeah, overall, Gen X is the one which is broadly sane. Unfortunately, it's also the smallest generation. (Excluding older generations who are losing population due to dying off.)

But especially that we were the smartest and most idealistic generation ever.

Word. I grew up fairly poor, worked hard in school to get tuition waiver for college, and hustled to get out with gainful employment in 4 years. My biggest advantage was having two parents at home, and THAT was a big factor that is truly within most everyone's reach.

They see people mouthing platitudes and doing the opposite. They see corruption and hypocrisy. They have been taught that the earth is dying and humans are responsible and they have no future. They haven't been taught about God or Jesus and the apostles.
We know that Islam is a death cult and a political ideology rather than a religion. But they have heard religion of peace their whole lives. So to them, bin Laden is a man who was so dedicated to a higher purpose that he was willing (in his words) to kill or die for it. They don't realize he wasn't really willing to die for his beliefs but would happily send others to do so.

Congratulations on being a mom. I was a mom at an older age too. I am glad you are putting your little one in a religious school rather than the publi uschool. I home schooled for a while. I would say that a big factor in keeping kids conservative is parents who are and questioning the stuff that comes home com school. Some kids become brainwashed in college if they go that route. But our son hasn't maybe because he isn't going to. Primarily Liberal arts school.

We grew up in a time when drugs and alcohol was normal, divorce was 50% or higher, teachers/admin were still 50% male, getting laid was seen as good by both sexes, you actually had to read a lot and work was required. Finally, our parents didn't care what we did all day, adults anywhere would discipline you, and a college degree actually meant something.
