I've never seen that angle of the castle. I've only seen the standard view of it. I didn't even know it had a courtyard.
Posted by: Disinformation Expert Ace Most pictures are 'straight on' from where you walk up. You have to have shot from a drone to get the one shown. Most assembly-line or packaging robots are not "visual" like us. There may be physical guards-- such as fencing or plexiglas barriers, or 'light curtains' and/or infrared or laser sensors to stop robotic motion if light beams broken.
In large robotics, usually areas are fenced-off or guidelines painted so that human w*rkers can see where to avoid. Engineers often are in charge of programming & reprogramming, so perhaps this engineer was within the boundary of motion while making adjustment(s) & testing, but simply screwed up somehow. I wonder if a bot like that could be fooled by a label. I have to figured they're programmed to look at labels and think "Broccoli, bagged, 10 kilos. Place on Conveyor 14. Millet, crated, 85 kilos, Conveyor 10," and so on.
So then a hapless, chunky guy in a brown coat with a millet sticker that got stuck to the back wanders by, and BAM! On the belt he goes. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at December 26, 2023 09:11 PM (0FoWg) 194

The family company had the contract for concrete forms for the construction of the castle at Disney Worls (FL). My uncle was running the show at the time, and it damned near drove him nuts.
Just to look at the structure, one would think that the poured concrete structure would have been almost impossibly complex, but the building isn't what it appears to be externally. It is actually a fairly massive steel structure, with all sorts of prefab stuff, using all sorts of prefab materials and structural stuff to embellish things. I wonder how a cat's visual pattern recognition ability compares with a computer's.
I know my cats can recognize faces (i.e., that I *have* a face) because Penny will immediately switch sides when she's laying next to me in bed if I turn over to the other side. She wants to be next to the front of my body where she can reach out and lick my nose/chin. Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at December 26, 2023 09:31 PM (BpYfr) 210

Facial 'recognition' (and anything interpreted via camera) is a software function.
We can see (pun not intended, but will take it!) with doorbell cams, that human eyes/brains are required to make the connection known as recognition. The camera "knows" nothing, it merely receives and transmits data. The "screen" knows nothing, it merely receives and displays data. Again, human eyes/brains are required to interpret it. Robots follow their programming, as it relates to motion. Software stands in place of human eye/brain to interpret the data sent by camera(s), which then sends data as variables to be inserted into the robot's programming.
