THE MORNING RANT: “America First” Was the Polite Request; “America Only” Is the Less-Polite Follow-up Offer

McConnell McCarthy Ukraine Flag.JPG

There is much debate among those of us on the right as to how the US government should prioritize America’s interests and domestic security against the needs of overseas allies and other global challenges.

The debate tends to be framed with the understanding that “America First” is the (barely) reputable position conservatives may hold, but isolationist pressure is causing a dangerous shift to the disreputable position of “America Only.” I reject that premise.

I would posit that “America First” was the polite request from the vast majority of conservatives. But the ruling class has emphatically dismissed that request, making it clear that America’s domestic crises, such as spending-fueled inflation and a border invasion, will only be addressed after we divert America’s blood and treasure to every other global situation. In other words, never.

In response, “America Only” is the less polite follow-up offer.

Tucker Carlson is receiving a lot of criticism for his “America Only” rhetoric from conservatives with more interventionist inclinations, and Dennis Prager also wrote about this topic recently.

“America First or America Only?” [Dennis Prager – 11/21/2023]

The idea of America First accords with both reason and religious morality.

However, some prominent conservatives, whom I know and respect, seem to equate “America First” with “America Only.”

And that is neither logical, nor moral, nor American.

There is a lot of soaring faux-Reaganesque rhetoric in Prager’s piece, which is fine, but it pretends that “America First” is even on the table as an option. With narco-terrorists and human traffickers entering our country unimpeded, it’s clear that “America First” is not a consideration of our rulers.

It seems to me that the options might be ranked as below, with the conservative base divided between options 1 and 2 (“America Only” and “America First”, the Republican establishment is at option 3 (“America Someday”, while the Democrats and the rest of the ruling class are at options 4 and 5 (“America Last” and “America Never.”

1) America Only
2) America First
3) America Someday
4) America Last
5) America Never

To re-state the thesis, most conservatives will settle for “America First.” But if that is not really an option, then they don’t slide into the internationalist “America Someday” bucket out of Republican party loyalty, instead they move the other direction into the isolationist “America Only” slot.

Before I go further, I will state that I am not an isolationist nor “America Only,” but I find myself getting pushed that way when my government cares more about the integrity of Ukraine’s border than about the US border.

I’ll also point out that I am a die-hard defender of Israel, and of my Jewish brothers and sisters across the globe. I enthusiastically support Israel for religious, political, cultural, and civilizational reasons, and I consider the war that Israel is fighting against Hamas to be part of the long-term defense of the Unites States and its values. I do not feel the same way about the Slavic turf war in eastern Ukraine.

But…neither I do not begrudge those principled “America Only” folks who feel isolationist toward Ukraine, Israel*, Taiwan, and all the rest. I understand where they’re coming from, and how sick they are of the uni-party always putting America last.

(*Unless they utter something about Zionism or the suffering of Palestinians. Then I know they’re not standing on principle, they’re simply anti-Jew.)

While many conservatives were glad to provide support to Ukraine initially – especially when it looked like Kiev might fall – it is clear now that keeping the stalemate going is the aim of the political class. A legion of corruptocrats need the money to keep flowing to them through omnibus funding of all things Ukraine, and the military industrial complex profits from keeping the war going so long as Ukraine and Russia can keep supplying men to die.

And it’s not enough for us taxpayers to fund that foreign war, we are now being asked to fund Ukraine’s civilian economy too, including paying the salaries of its schoolteachers!

Sean Davis - Funding Ukraine Schools.JPG

It is entirely rational for US citizens to decide that they will not support any more foreign wars until the US border is secured. Congress and those seeking to become President would be wise to take note that “America Someday” is no longer going to be tolerated, and if “reputable” politicians refuse to put America first, they will be replaced by “disreputable” politicians who will focus on America only.

13 Isolationism worked fine for America for a long time. It didn't and doesn't mean we won't *trade* with other countries. We just won't get entangled in their politics or wars, will cut foreign aid to the bone (= zero aid for countries that hate us), police our borders, reduce immigration (even the "legal" kind), and concern ourselves with our citizens and interests first.

I dislike the black and white political edicts. I’m one to believe that the world is a much much better place because we have been the world’s ‘policeman’ but just as we limit what actual policeman can do and should do we should limit what the United States does. We have lost sight of that decades ago.

And I absolutely hate the illogical comparisons that are used to support the arguments.

38 The city of Chicago impounded a “rogue bus” from Texas that was attempting to drop off 49 migrants at the city’s designated landing zone Wednesday night...buses face “seizure and impoundment” for unloading passengers without a permit or outside of approved hours and locations. Violators will also be subject to $3,000 fines, plus towing and storage fees.

Fuck you Greg Abbott! He says he is a PRO-LIFE CHRISTIAN. WWJD?

The fines should be even higher. These bus companies are endangering both the migrant passengers and the people who have to process them, including many first responders...fine them into oblivion. They will abide by Chicago ordinances, or they will have no vehicles.

I said this months ago. Impound all the buses and make the drivers head to court. Hurray to Chicago for showing us the way. Not to stop the shipment of refugees, but to put strict limits on the where and when.

Not good enough. it should be "confiscation, forfeiture", not impoundment. The buses should be crushed.

I used to think this, and the more i think about it, the more i'm against it. but I think we need to be non-isolationist.

basically, we need to be something different. We're NOT the cop, but if you fuck with our interests - i.e. trade, allies, freedom of movement, etc., we WILL come over and fuck your shit up and then leave and let you rebuild.

with a promise next time will be worse.

64 I have an issue with what seems to be the priorities, not the issues per se. To the average American, the extraordinary lengths people in Congress go to in order to support Ukraine is at odds with domestic issues like the border, the poisoning of our citizens with Chinese-Mexican fentanyl or even the federal budget. I see dunces like McConnell marching around for photo ops on Ukraine. I've never seen him and his lackeys march around for much else. I also understand the support for Israel and a vicious attack that killed 1,400 people but in 2021 over 70,000 Americans died from fentanyl poisoning. Sorry, but those are our existential priorities and it's what we've pay Congress to do. Until those issues are fully addressed we shouldn't give a single dime to any other country.

66 "America only" is not necessarily isolationist. If America has a real, tangible interest (not a "humanitarian" or "expanding democracy" interest), then America can engage in interventionism under "america first".

A realpolitik outluck would be "america only" where we only engage in places that our actual interests (economic {keeping trade routes open, keeping oil cheap}, security {keeping certain central and south american countries from becoming china clients}).

What we have now is the opposite of realpolitik - we have no real interest in Ukraine. The idea that if Ukraine falls, europe will also is silly - and more to the point - who cares? Europe can and should defend itself. We shouldn't be paying the bill with either treasure or blood. I understand our interest in Taiwan (microchips), but we should be developing that tech in other places (and more importantly at home) rather than putting our treasure and blood on the line against China.

An America that put itself first would be better for the world than what America does now. For instance, we'd have a bigger, stronger economy which would drive the world's economy.

How is it dangerous for the processors and first responders to meet these people?

We ought to enforce dire tariffs and flat out tribute from pisspot bullshit countries as payment for even being allowed to have anything to do with America. Otherwise, leave us alone and we'll leave you alone; Piss us off and you'll cease to exist.

Not a single dime goes from the taxpayer to any foreign government, ever, for any reason. No aid. No contracts. No bribes. No bidenesque twelve-layer graft cakes. I'd argue that America does more to stand in the way of "peace" in the middle east than it helps Israel. think about it - what country holds Israel back every time? the U.S. What country funds Hamas and other terrorist organizations the most? We do through "Humanitarian" aid. What country's citizens do the terrorists try to play to? Our citizens. It's the U.S.'s reaction to terrorism that drives terrorism more than any other nation. Our citizens are easy marks for the worlds worst people.

If we stepped back and said "we don't care anymore, Israel, do what you want" things would change over there drastically and I think for the better.

The incident occurred about 90 minutes into a livestreamed meeting in the Keretsky Village Council in Ukraine’s Western Zakarpattia region Friday.

A short clip shared by the Ukrainian National Police shows a man — later identified as deputy Serhiy Batryn, a member of Ukraine’s parliament — entering the council headquarters during the debate about finances.

“May I speak?” he finally asks — before removing at least three hand grenades from his jacket pockets and tossing them on the floor. [...]

Friday’s council session was held to approve the village’s budget for 2024, but Batryn, a deputy from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Servant of the People Party, argued that he and his colleagues should first give a full report on the 2023 budget before moving on to next year’s.

Batryn also had a long-standing feud with village chief Mikhail Mushka, reported the news Telegram channel Zakarpattya24.

Batryn had opposed a proposal to allocate a 50% raise and a monthly bonus for Mushka during the war, and had voted against deeming the village chief’s job performance satisfactory.

For some reason, the prices of these have not gone up. One Yemen is even marked down a little. If you value these beans, stock up, because that coast is about to get real active.

For my money, King Harv has the best Mocca Java in the U.S.

Of course.

I admitted fault after 2022 while insisting that the cheating ceiling had been placed back because of the repeal of the PA governor's emergency powers.

I was wrong because the PA governor simply broke the law, out in the open, by sending 250,000 illegal mail in ballots out into the wild to be cured, and no one stopped it, proving that there was no longer a cheating ceiling.

142 A current example of where US inaction is far more costly to us than action: The Houthi's are currently lobbing missiles at international shipping off their shores. They at first claimed that they were shooting at Israeli targets, but they're not clever enough to discriminate, so they're shooting at anything. They have also fired ballistic missiles at US warships patrolling the area, giving the US every justification for treating this as an Act of War. This is not a threat to Israel; this is a direct threat to the US Navy and the world's economic system. And the US, with one carrier group, could end it in 24 hours if they were given the order.
So what is happening? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Biden and Blinken sit at their desks and twiddle their thumbs while the Houthi's are encouraged to shoot more and more missiles at random shipping craft every day. What are they waiting for, a US warship to miss an intercept and actually get sunk before they do something?

It has usurped nothing. Yes, the power the bureaucracy wields is right Congress' power, but it was not usurped. It was *ceded* voluntarily at every opportunity.

The bureaucracy had no power to take anything that Congress was not willing to give it. Most of the powers the bureaucracy possess now weren't even asked for, they were merely given.

Congress has spent a more than a century signing enabling acts, and doing so of its own accord. The bureaucracy is merely a beneficiary of this, not a usurper. If a rich and powerful uncle comes to you and says, "I can't be bothered with all my money and my position, so you go ahead and take care of it," well, most people wouldn't say "no." I feel like the deep state really got its sea legs and power starting under Clinton. It was always there, but I don't think it had (or exercised) the same amount of power it now does until starting with the Clinton admin, growing under W, growing more under Obama, and then really flexed its muscle under Trump. B/c Biden is a puppet of the deep state, we don't see the deep state flexing as obviously right now b/c Biden does whatever the deep state wants anyway.

The real question, to me, is whether a non-Trump GOP candidate has the wherewithall or desire to take on the deep state. Certainly the GOP house and Senate does not have the spine to fight the deep state.

Jodie Evans was a co-founder of Code Pink, she started off by leading protests against Sarah Palin in 2008. In 2017 she married tech entrepreneur Neville Roy Singham, worth many millions. Neville Roy Singham has been identified as the largest financial backer of the pro-Hamas rallies in New York and DC, putting up millions to make them happen.

but wait - that's not the best part. You'd think that would mean he has some ties to the Palestinians, but no, that wasn't where the money came from. Neville Roy Singham has very close ties to the Chinese Communist Party, and it is believed that most of the money he throws around is spent on their behalf.

The Joe Biden administration and the U.S. Congress have directed more than $75 billion in assistance to Ukraine...

...some $60 billion for Ukraine has become tied into contentious debates over border security and Israel.

All of which is just numbers which fails to point out a few things:

1. WE are responsible for the war. WE expanded NATO. WE pressured Ukraine to walk away from negotiations. WE (Biden) said that a little invasion would be totes fine.
2. Ukraine CANNOT win this war. The only thing that they can accomplish is dying to the last person so that Americans can puff their chests out and say "we showed Putin".
3. The ancillary fallout from all this is that, in addition to the damage being suffered domestically, we are losing the goodwill (what there ever was) of the entire planet.

The propaganda is that U.S. only uses smart bombs but that is not true at all. Our numbers are much much lower. Probably closer to 10% smart bomb usage.

Also, Palestinian smart bomb usage is ZERO.

209 I think there is a solid argument for giving Ukraine the funds. I don't have any issue with them degrading Russia, tying down their troops or showing them that invading sovereign territories under phony premises comes with a price. They marched into Crimea and nobody did a thing. The crap they did in Georgia and Chechnya didn't get much notice. They probably figured nobody would do anything if they marched into the Donbas and Ukraine. Welp. This is Purim's War and he's done this ever time his popularity slips. Now it's actually costing the Russian people. Maybe he'll think twice before doing it again. Also contrary to popular belief the Euros have stepped up funds and materials to the Uke's. So our funding, while needed actually isn't the bill. My issue is that if Congress wants to hand out money, they should take care of our priorities first.

The OSoros State Dept. manipulated this war into existence by NATO Expansion and repudiating the Minsk Agreements. They did so for many evil reasons; to keep the Criminal Disneyland open, to loot our Treasury, Depopulation, the pipe dream of installing a puppet in Moscow, etc..

But the biggest reason we manufactured this war:

This Proxy War on Russia functions as a Proxy War on America. Everything about it is bad for America; the cost, the military drain, the loss of moral authority, BRICS and now we're learning the Economic Sanctions were not to keep Russia out but to box America in and institute Digital Tyranny here.

This is the *only* way to do it, and is also why there is a strong correlation between the country that is able and willing to do it and the country that becomes the strongest and richest empire. Security of trade is the purpose of and mechanism for empire. The further away from home you can do it, the more powerful your empire becomes.

The Europeans figured this out more or less all at once and spent the next period fighting each other for supremacy. The English came out on top. Then we came out on top. If we're now failing to defend the seas against piracy - and we are - then we will not be an empire for long. This doesn't necessarily mean we get replaced - it could just fail and go back to regionalism and very expensive and risky trading - but it does mean we fall.

Every treaty, every dollar, ever diplomatic mission, etc. is based on the assumption that we guarantee security on the seas.

The problem with that thinking is that dems and the media (BIRM) only consider SCOTUS legitimate when it issues liberal decisions. So, they are just kicking the legitimacy issue down the road as well.

266 True. However, IIRC, SCOTUS has a case now which could overturn Chevron, the decision that gave the bureaucracy a wink and a nod about making law. Assuming it's overturned, that would be absolutely huge.

Apparently a ruling last year actually did it, but the new case is just going to make it explicit.

Not that, it seems, anyone has recognized it because the bureaucracy is completely out of control and will not be put back in its box.

As I acknowledged - the deep state was always there to some extent. I just feel like it has grown in power and become willing to openly flex its muscle.

The deep state didn't need to act under GHWB b/c he was a solid uniparty member and what he did, the deep state wanted.

The first (and I think only) President to truly challenge the deep state was trump. So, it's hard to say how much power it had prior to that, but it "feels" like the deep state's power and influence grew with the growth and reach of the internet and with certain presidents helping give it more power (Clinton, Obama). W was a creature of the deep state also.

You forget that Nixon had to have done what he did for any of that to have happened. So, maybe we are both sort of correct. I don't see why the Deep state would want rid of Nixon though - he was doing the things they would have wanted - open up china to trade, the EPA, etc. Nixon was practically liberal compared to today's American conservatism. What policy did Nixon have that upset the deep state?

I think you are point more to a personal vendetta by deep throat than coordinated activity of the deep state.

Yes and no. DBs have a predictable ballistic arc so with a good launch point and accurate measurements, you are going to be close.

Smart bombs are always thrown long so they can guide down to the target. Without a motor, you can't add energy if you are falling short. So, if the guidance fails, you are going long.
