The featherweight champion hinted yet again this week that he is planning a run for the presidency in Ireland -- a massive career change Elon Musk lauded as "not even fair" to other contenders. McGregor, 35, who has been outspoken in recent weeks amid violent rioting in Dublin, said Monday he would serve at the whim of the people should he throw his hat in the 2025 election: "It would not be me in power as president, people of Ireland. Tesla founder and Twitter owner Musk quickly showed support for McGregor, stating the longtime politicians wouldn't stand a chance against the newcomer. "I think you could take them all single-handed. Not even fair," Musk replied, alongside a crying laughing emoji. In a lengthy response to the Space X CEO, McGregor pointed out that the road to the nomination would be a tedious process, but he feels strongly that he'd find success on the other side: "I'd fancy my chances Elon, 100%"

They're better than average. Some are useless and weird (Ventura), some turn rotten (Schwarzenegger), some do relatively well (Trump). Compared to the baseline average, though - which is "miserable rotten fucker groomed by a corrupt system of insiders who hate the people, and who do unspeakable damage in every moment of public life" - those risks are a lot more palatable.

Interesting thing about Ike's rank. Note the "Army of the United States" and the "Regular Army" are two different things, the former being created for WWII purposes.
While Ike was a 4-star in the AOUS, he remained a mere Colonel in the Regular Army until August of '43, when he was promoted to 1 star in the Regular Army.
He became a 5-star in both not too long afterwards.

I walked into a history class the other day and saw a number of Revolutionary War-era firearms. I'm not a big gun guy and even I started drooling over them. The long guns were authentic period weapons. The pistols were replicas, but still neat.

In fall 1862 the Rebs invaded well, all over but Kentucky is the interesting area. Louisville was under threat, they were collecting troops to defend it and a Regular army Captain Gilbert was promoted to Major General and put in command of a Corps. Then the army went out and met Braxton Bragg at Perryville and he did one of his patented "attack first and then retreat south" deals. Gilbert didn't do too well, apparently he didn't hear the attack that smashed a corps on the flank, and after the tempers cooled Congress refused to allow the promotion ot Major General so he was back to Captain.
