Poll: Voters See The American Dream Dying Under Biden

The American Dream is dying faster than Biden's frontal cortex.

The percentage of voters who believe in the American dream, the idea that working hard brings more success, has dramatically decreased over the past decade, according to a poll published on Friday.

About a third of voters, 36%, said the once-popular ethos holds true, per the poll, which was conducted in October by the Wall Street Journal and University of Chicago.

That is roughly half of the percentage who believed in the American dream last year, the Wall Street Journal found. Similar polls found that a majority of voters, 53%, believed in the American dream in 2012 and that 46% believed in it in 2016.

The poll defined the American dream as the idea that "if you work hard, you'll get ahead." It also asked voters whether life in America is better or worse today than 50 years ago and whether the economic and political systems are "stacked against" them.

Exactly half of the respondents in both instances conveyed pessimism. Fifty percent said America is worse off today, and 50% said the economic and political systems were stacked against them.

Those who no longer believed in the American dream associated with both major political parties. Women and younger people were more disillusioned by the sentiment than men and older people.

Dean Phillips, the Democrat congressman who manned up and declared his bid to be the party's nominee, says it's "delusional" to imagine Biden can win.

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) on Saturday criticized President Biden for his recent poll numbers, arguing it's "delusional" to think he could overtake former President Trump in a rematch.

"As a member of House Democratic Leadership, I supported and promoted the Biden agenda, Phillips wrote Saturday on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. "I campaigned for him, voted for him, and respect him."

"But how can anyone read this and conclude he's positioned to defeat Donald Trump?" he added, sharing an article from Politico centered on Biden's fall in approval ratings. "It's delusional."

The article from Politico referenced there shows Biden's job approval losing cognitive acuity.

Biden's recent slide -- and his political predicament some 11 months before Election Day -- represent a confluence of slippage with reliable Democratic constituencies like young voters, the outbreak of war in the Middle East and the rise of independent and third-party candidates who could siphon votes from both Biden and Trump.

This week's NBC News poll had a stunning result: Trump led Biden among voters younger than 35, 46 percent to 42 percent.

Even though that was well within the high margin of error for such a small subgroup, other polls also show a close race with what has been a reliable Democratic constituency. Biden had only single-digit leads among voters 18-34 in polls this month from Morning Consult (Biden +2), Fox News (Biden +7) and Quinnipiac University (Biden +9). (Trump led Biden in all four polls among all voters.)

Only a few polls show Biden with a lead among young voters that approaches his 2020 margins, but they are the exception, not the rule.

That's prompted a debate over whether Trump is really making the deep inroads with younger voters the polling suggests -- or if those numbers are an artifact of some kind of polling bias. One popular theory speculates that liberal younger voters who are unenthusiastic about Biden and his party -- over his administration's support for Israel in its war with Hamas, for example -- aren't participating in polls right now, even if many of them will vote for him next November.

But Biden, the oldest president in history, has never polled well with younger voters. And telephone polls -- of the four mentioned above, all but Morning Consult were conducted over the phone -- are a difficult way to reach younger voters.

Biden's approval ratings are headed downward, while Trump's vote share is spiking.

Biden's sagging margins against Trump are one thing. But there are two other trendlines under the hood of these polls that spell trouble for the incumbent.

First, his approval rating -- already historically low for a president at this point in his first term -- has been ticking down. Biden's approval rating dipped down to 38 percent in FiveThirtyEight's average earlier this month, the lowest since July 2022. Similarly, when Biden hit 40 percent in RealClearPolitics' average this month, it was his lowest reading since August 2022.

I saw a clip of Laura Ingraham talking with former Democrat strategist and current Fox commentator Doug Schoen. Schoen believes it's possible that Biden will consult with his "family" (his donors and handlers, I assume that means) over the holidays and announce he's decided not to run again. Schoen believes, however, that the back-up candidate will be Kamala Harris, because the woke core of the party will not permit a black woman to be disrespected and thrown aside.

Kamala Harris is of course more unpopular than Joe Biden.

It'll be before the nom, or after it, but it will happen. Going into an election with Biden at the top of the ticket is suicidal. That's why TPTB will ensure he goes, one way or another.

12 Sorry for the threadjacking...and the wall of text...

My parents flew out to NoVa for Thanksgiving to Favorite Niece's house. Unbeknownst to anyone, Mom had a hernia she didn't tell anyone about (because she had plans, you see).

It got to bothering her, so she asked my sister (who is a nurse; all my siblings are nurses) to take a look at it. Sister freaked and wanted to call the ambulance, I don't remember the technical term for it but there was stuff poking out that wouldn't poke back in.

Mom, true to form, refused to go anywhere until after dinner. After dinner she went to the hospital, they admitted her and did the surgery on Friday morning. Everything seemed to be going swimmingly, so they released her that afternoon.

They were staying in Nova until Tuesday, but everyone else went home. Today I got a frantic call from Sister. Mom is back in the hospital (at her own request, no less) with a pulse rate and blood pressure of just above dead. She and Little Sister (also a nurse) are getting in the car and coming out from Iowa, and I'm getting in the Jeep now.

A few prayers wouldn't be un-appreciated...

I think it depends on how people look at the question.

Is it generally true that if you work harder, you will do better at your job? Yes.

Does that mean that if you work your ass off at your job, you will go anywhere in life? No.

No matter how hard you work at most jobs, you will not get promoted, will not get massive pay raises, and at the end of the day, no one really cares.

In other words, I think it's a garbage question to poll on.

Someone actually ran the numbers on McDonalds food recently. I forget the exact numbers, but it was something like

Large fries in 2018: $1.50
Large fries in 2023: $3.79

Same kind of change with Big Mac's, etc. I think the sandwich went from approx $4 to $6 (not the meal, just the burger).

Anyways, dramatic shift, ESPECIALLY in the items that are the cheapest to make, like sodas and fries.

Now... yes, I'm sure some of that is "corporate geed" (markets fully matured and saturated, but they still need to beat wall street expectations every earnings report), BUT it's like Wendys or BK's or anyone else is trying to compete on price here.

I suspect if I were to look at the numbers, profit margins haven't shifted much, and this truly is inflation.

Even with somewhat corrupted information, you can still get something usable--Biden is increasingly unpopular even among Democrats.

All political indications are that more people are unhappy than last year and fedgov with its deficit and GOP control of the House is not able to prime the pump with massive spending. At this point, all it would do is massively spike inflation again making things even worse from teh junta standpoint.

But then you have muh GOPe to do stuff like Ladybugs Lindsay did about a national abortion ban just before the 2022 General election or cutting social security and/or medicare to kill grandma like the fiscons want. Then you have the dysfunctional national and state GOP party organizations that see election failure as the primary option.

He may be in late-stage dementia but the Democrats don't have the stones to invoke the 25th to remove him and he certainly isn't the type to take one for the team and refuse to seek reelection. Biden thinks he's doing great, fit as a fiddle by cracky, and wholeheartedly believes he's the best man for the job. Dementia patients can be very stubborn.

Biden's handlers could alter whatever drug cocktail they're feeding him to keep him lucid, I suppose, weaken the dosage, and then allow him to be caught on-camera in the middle of one of his episodes, staring off into space and mumbling incoherently. That might do it.

Probably the best choice for him, since he'd be dead meat in the primary. Too many Democrats in MN want him to go the fuck away; he has no chance to win a primary or be re-elected to the House and he sure as Hell won't be President.

He came with the wave of 2018. Was part of the majority and climbed to a leadership position. But as we have seen on other occasions - Rs leaving when they lost the majority - being in the minority is no fun. He turned a long time Republican district into a Democratic one, won three times and I hope that Kelly Morrison will sail easily.

He's won 3 time so 6 years in the House. So, he got his pension and he's bailing. Self serving jerk? It's an addiction, this constant need for 'free money', and a lot of the GOP congress critters are there to serve themselves, not their constituents.

He offers nothing as a candidate except contempt for the party as a whole. Fox could use him as their pet liberal, except that he's not one.

I think all of our politicians have been spending like drunken sailors for decades, and it's just now beginning to really catch up with us.

And we will soon realize that it's REALLY FUCKING HARD to "turn off" inflation. As in, most countries don't succeed in it.

Best case scenario, you end up like Japan, where the gdp per capita slowly declines until it plummets. GDP per capita in Japan is 15% lower today than it was in 1995.

Most likely scenario, Argentina or Brazil.

Worst case scenario, Weimar Germany.

Worser case scenario, Zimbabwe

For sure. Not only that, but rent / housing prices have gone insane as well.

This is anecdotal, but my rent for my NYC studio in a ... fun, but not "cool" manhattan neighborhood was $2450/month in 2019.

During COVID, I left the city, and the rent prices went all haywire, so we won't count that time.

I recently looked to see what that apartment was renting for, and an apartment that was mostly similar, but slightly less desirable (this apartment faced the street, mine faced the back of another building, so was much quieter) was renting for $3400 / month.

$6,600 a year more money. For the same apartment. The neighborhood hasn't gotten trendier, and anecdotally, this massive increase has happened in every neighborhood in NYC. But we're told commercial office space is sitting vacant since so many people went remote and moved out of the city.

No one can explain it.

135 Isn't there any Democrat who's AA not full on leftist whom they could get to run? 136 No, he's staying right where he is. If he leaves, it's feet first. If he left, Kamala is running in his place.

I'm sure the feet-first scenario has been thoroughly gamed out. Does he have any allergies?

I think the Democrats convention is after the Republicans.

That's my prediction for the replacement: When Trump is locked in.

They are already shooting the Hollywood video tribute--heroic elder statesman gave his all for the country he loved.

He will endorse Kamala as the replacement and the party will fall in line.
Because no way are they going to have her campaign for 11 months when they can ride the high of the convention for a month, then highly scripted, limited appearances for October to coast to the win.

That is exactly the plan.

Unintended, but not unforeseeable. This whole situation was TOTALLY foreseeable. It was obvious that Biden's brain was on the fritz, and the Kamala "Deep Throat" Harris was less popular than explosive diarrhea (even in CA, putatively her home state) when she failed so dismally in the primaries.

But nothing daunted, the comrades in the DNC threw them the nominations.

207 They've neatly painted themselves into a corner.

Biden is obviously whacked-out, and their identity-politics "diverse" VP is about as popular as genital tonsil herpes, which she probably has.

But they can't dump her without offending one of their identity-politics constituencies.

You've got to laugh.

LOUISIANA RECOUNT

Did you know that the Caddo Parish sheriff election was decided by 1 vote?

Henry Whitehorn (D) received 21,621 votes to John Nickleson’s (R) 21,620.

While more than 43,000 votes were cast, only around 7,700 mail-in ballots will be rescanned.

LA’s touch screen voting machines do not produce an auditable paper trail.

Nickleson said, “We know that at least 2 voters voted twice, and that the votes of at least 5 people who were deceased as of Election Day were counted.”

The recount is set for Monday, December 27th

That's a better question to be asking. Trump is very flexible in his public statements about policies and people, which makes most claims that he does something due to stubborn rigidity unlikely. He makes choices and regularly revises them, rightly or wrongly. I tend to attribute a lot of it currently to his estimation of the political situation, since he is campaigning. He might be misjudging the popularity of a stance, but I don't think he holds them due to inflexibility.

There was a more cohesive culture, and a greater chance for the culture to endure hardship and make it through. We weren't divided over every single thing by design like now. But the groundwork to destroy the country was definitely laid in that decade.

Black, woman, ethnic, etc. The perceived threats would be numerous and "severe" likely necessitating some pretty draconian security measures against whites, males, conservatives and anyone who opposes a Harris presidency.

Whether she's going to occupy the White House is debatable but the radical left would love nobody other than her to "stick it to the man." Literally.

If rates stay high prices will continue to fall. There’s no scenario where rates and prices stay high long term. All the home owners who sell have to sell to a new generation of buyers. So either rates fall or prices fall to make that happen.

Israel did a lot of work on this subject for obvious reasons and leaving out moral and social problems - and they are severe - they found that women's bodies just aren't strong enough. A normal pack laden route march that armies are supposed to do daily on mixed terrain would cause some severe joint damage that would make the woman unable to continue, up to requiring dismissal from service.

Women evolved features to keep them in the protected community while doing their work while men roamed wider areas.

It gets complicated because leftists of that social class essentially blather thoughts then act in their own best interests. Such as expressing support for diversity but then having their kid suddenly rediscover their American Indian roots or a Hispanic grandparent etc. So they are perfectly happy with expressing genocidal thoughts toward other unfortunates but if son or daughter 'had' a problem--they would be the first to rush them to the chic private hospital or concierge physicians offering succor to them.

Hypocrisy is as easy as breathing for that class which is one of the reasons that they are called cloud people. They float above the economy, social problems, etc. primarily by not living where there are a problem with such things.

Doesn't work that way if you allow foreign investors to buy houses for potential ratholes or later citizenship. Canada found that out.

Housing is a sticky market in that a certain percentage is churn for job reasons but another percentage is essentially the tradeup buyer. Working from home plays havoc with the churn numbers and rising interest rates have cause the tradeup buyers to stay put for now. So less homes offered in areas raises prices at the same time interest rates have jumped substantially.

In part, I think that is why all growth is good idiots are pushing open borders and developers and realtors were part of that crowd---it increases the pool of buyers.

381 Women evolved features to keep them in the protected community while doing their work while men roamed wider areas.

I always dispute that one. The "theories" about the evolutionary role of women were cogitated by some proto-Victorian dandies, who were to a man gheyblades. Skeletal evidence has shown that in some periods of time, women and men hunted together. The Couple predates The Clan. I have been known to hunt with a woman in this geologic era. And I liked it. Snotnose pukes will snicker, but they are fags.

Opinions and arguments about the draft or women in combat are fine, and I just about don't have a bitch in that fight, but you can't base your suppositions on a bunch of weirdo suppositions that are only branded "Science" by etiquette. It's Sociology, in its first water. Use it and you've joined it.
