I'm too lazy to look it up, but the book was written by one of those guys who was popular then. John Irving or someone like that. They made more than one of his books into movies, and they all have a same style to them.

69 I have seen a house very much like the one in the pic. The great difference being that there was no road to it. It had been abandoned decades before, and the woods had grown up around it. On a large private property, owned by an elderly woman, for whom it had been home as a child, probably 70 years before.

Inside, it was *very* strange. There was no reason why it could not be inhabited, though it was obvious that no one had been in it in many many years. There were clothes hanging in closets. Not spooky, just rather sadly surreal.

Started peeling yams and potatoes at 11 am. The wife and I work in shifts. I make a mess, she cleans it up. Keep moving the ball toward the finish line, I do some stuff that needs doing, then she does some. In the end, after six plus hours, we will spend twenty minutes eating but have about three days of leftovers.

Plus pie. Meticulously interlaced crust on apple pie. Accept no substitutes.

86 Hope everyone is having a nice Thanksgiving. Ours will be quiet, just Mrs. JTB and me, which we enjoy. We're tired of poultry at the moment so the meal will be beef Stroganoff, something we really enjoy. There's a pumpkin ice cream pie in the freezer for dessert. After the traditional nap I can go back to my reading and pipe tobacco.

A quiet day with my loving wife, good food, and great books. That's a lot to be thankful for.

87 House up top has a very large central chimney. Each room probably has/had a small wood burner for winter heat. Compact / squarish floorplan retains heat better too. Especially before owens-corning fiberglass insulation.

I told him, I think you'd have to eat an entire turkey to get all tryptophan. I think I looked this up once. It's the combination of too much food and all different types that make people sleepy because their digestive system is overwhelmed. It's still good though.
