Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Is This Something?Godzilla Minus One, set shortly after World War II and offering a new "first appearance" of Gojira, is getting very good reviews. Alachai Queen raves and Film Threat calls it the best Godzilla movie ever made. They all seem to agree that the human story in the movie is very good. Another movie coming out soon is the Angel Studios production The Shift. It's confirmed that "The Benefactor" is the devil. The story is a sci-fi retelling of the Book of Job. Greg Owens gave it a good review but added this caution: The movie doesn't signal well enough that the beginning is supposed to be confusing not just for the main character but for the audience. If you don't realize the movie intends you to be confused, you'll feel like you've missed something. But you haven't; the movie just didn't signal its intention well enough. He advises to just accept that you're going to be confused in the early-going and everything will make sense sometime in the second act. Tom Collins at Midnight's Edge was a little frustrated because the movie wears it Christianity on its sleeve, and he thinks that if had just trusted more in subtext than explicit reference, the film could have been a breakout hit with mainstream viewers not even realizing they were watching a the Book of Job in sci-fi trappings. By the way, the actor playing "The Benefactor" in that movie was cancelled for a few years by Hollywood for refusing to do a sex scene. He also did that funny Cadillac commercial in 2014.Opening today on the Daily Wire: Lady Ballers, a comedy about men playing women in basketball by pretending to be "trans." Which is itself mostly pretend, anyway. Rita Pahini notes that the left is (as usual) having conniptions about the movie, but points out that Dylan Mulvaney mocks women in his own gender LARPing. A scene from the movie showing a man pretending to be a woman is taken directly from Dylan Mulvaney's "365 Days of Girlhood." So here's a movie I'd definitely like to see. It's pretty much a Cafe in movie form. This looks kind of funny. But it's on Peacock, so it might as well be playing on Neptune. After Film Threat posted its review of the movie, Chris Gore said he got lots of emails from employees at Disney's animated film studio, complaining that the talent of the studio had been greatly degraded by the hiring of unqualified diversity hires whose idea of storytelling is basically Twitter-level political activism.
======= Then they should quit. There are hundreds of animation studios out there. Sure, none has the prestige of Disney, but do you want Disney prestige anymore? Posted by: TheJamesMadison, celebrating anarchy and 50s B-movies with Joe Dante at December 01, 2023 04:35 PM (GBKbO) 4
Daisy Ridley got pretty screwed by agreeing to be in Kaffeine Kennedy's trashfire Star Wars movies. She's barely in anything now. Hopefully she's good in this and can escape the stench of Lucasfilm.
======== One of the many definitely to be made Star Wars movies is one that's supposed to star Daisy Ridley as Rey again. But, again, Star Wars is a Disney+ property now, so probably not happening. "I predict this movie about the GameStop Stonk play will piss me off. "
idk details of that, but there is a lot of "passive investing" (which has different definitions) where people just poor a percent of the paycheck in every week or two. The players count on the flow and manage to front run, or other wise game those funds. My guess is that is the reason the markets keep going up in the face of all the real problems. There is also the "climb a wall of worry" theory, which doesn't make sense to me but kinda works. But a company that was cash/asset rich could not just sit and make a profit, it had to put those assets "to work", or it became a takeover target (like Sears, I think, taken over by bankrupt K-Mart). Weird games by the elite hedge fund manipulators, and the bankers. GameStop Movie maybe reveals that, idk. , here's my idea for a screenplay, "The Transaction."
Strap in. This'll take a few posts to lay out... Jason Momoa is a regular family guy but he drives a Lambo and he's secretly gay on the side and he's whoring out on Grindr. He hooks up with some "hot young dude" but it turns out he's getting catfished by Liam Neeson. He's all "no way, old man, leave me alone," but Liam gets obsessed with him, and goes all Fatal Attraction on him, and he drives a Porsche 911 GTS and he's also a retired CIA agent. Jason gets tired of Liam threatening his suburban white-picket-fence charade of a lifestyle, so he runs his Porsche off the Brooklyn Bridge in an adrenaline-pumping Michael Bay style chase scene. He thinks Liam's dead now but he's totally not. Liam uses his spycraft to fully transition to a comely hussy, both to disguise himself as he hunts Momoa, and to seduce the sexually confused husband and father. These motives become hopelessly entwined in a really artistic way. They fall in love and kill the wife together in a tranq-fuelled hammer attack, and live out their shared dream of robbing banks to raise funds for BLM (you can also donate to BLM too with a QR code in the credits)... You have to keep people interested, you can't fit everything in the series and it has to make us care about the characters. They got enough right in BoB to make it great. Godzilla Minus One
Very good. I liked it. Definitely a recommend. It's not actually a remake of the original but has elements of the original. It's about a kamikaze pilot who pusses out and while he's on a small atoll used by the Japanese to repair planes, a small Godzilla about the size of a T-Rex attacks and kill everyone but him and one other guy. He eventually gets home at war's end. His family is dead, his neighbor's family is dead and he meets a girl whose entire family is dead but is carrying a child that's not hers...cuz her family is dead. Small Godzilla is eventually irradiated at Bikini Atoll and turns into big Godzilla. Big Godzilla eventually goes on the rampage. It's very good. There's a fair amount of decent character drama involving the pilot and the girl he meets. He's struggling with inner turmoil about not fulfilling his duty to waste his life. The destruction is pretty cool. Ginza gets torn to shit. Godzilla lumbers around fairly slowly but his atomic fire breath is really cool the way his spikes pop out while he's "charging." I'd have to watch it again but I feel that this is overall one of the better Godzilla movies in the series. Posted by: Robert at December 01, 2023 05:35 PM (1Yy3c) 200

Posted by: NJRob at December 01, 2023 07:12 PM (Ce7wD) 241
When you look at Wahlberg he's one of the most underrated actors today. He does everything well, but never gets the credit of similar actors that actually suck at everything they do (like Ben Affleck) Sure he's probably not going to play Marlon Brando or Carey Grant type roles, but id take him in almost any Hollywood type movie over the crap out actors out there today.
Like Neal McDonough, he's held back because he's not afraid of being extremely pro-Christian, which means he basically had to produce and get private funding for everything he does. McDonough is another great actor, I've heard from people who have worked with him that he's also a genuinely nice guy. Posted by: Rbastid at December 01, 2023 07:29 PM (aoq4X) 242
