Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

A stray canine in North Carolina that repeatedly tried to steal a purple stuffed unicorn from a Dollar General has been adopted.

Duplin County Animal Services was called to the store after Sisu, a one-year-old Labrador mix, kept entering a Dollar General store and stealing a large, purple stuffed unicorn.

Officer Samantha Lane caught Sisu in the middle of the act, took him to the shelter, and bought him the $10 toy for the duration of his stay at the shelter.

Duplin County Animal Services announced Friday that Sisu had been adopted.

Meet The PetMorons

roci k n.jpg

This is Roci (short for Rocinante), a 2-year-old half Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and half Lhasa Poo. She is quite smart and easy to train, "speaks" to us when she wants something, and is full of love and affection.

From: K-and-M

What a sweetheart!

MAJESTIC

This cat belongs to a moron brother in ETEX we all know and love. His name is Wally, the cat not the moron.

Forwarded by Eromero.

Well, Wally looks like he has been practicing that pose for a while. Impressive.

precious jtbb.jpg

Hi KT,

Here is a photo of Precious, our 15 year old Bichon. We got her last July from the pound. Her original owner turned her in for some reason. She is a sweetie and gets more adorable every day. It didn't take long for her to know when we're taking her for a walk. And it didn't take long for her to teach us when it's time to feed her. (Which is whenever she wakes up from a nap.)

Regards,

JTB and Mrs. JTB

Awwww, she truly is precious. Fifteen! How lovely that you could adopt her.

Had a Cooper's Hawk swoop in and land on my porch yesterday. Wife is an avid birder, so I'm sure he's scoping out all the sparrows and goldfinches. Didn't catch one this time, though.

Took the photos from inside with my cell phone...pretty impressive how good that technology has come along!

Grimmy

I always debate whether to put wild critters into the gardening or the pet thread. I'm not sure that Grimmy considers this hawk to be a pet, but it is impressive!

18 Nice friend the cat brought home.

Would not surprise me at all if our cat brought home such a guest as we have several deer that pass through the front yard each day, and often bed down in the front yard. They and the cat do not bother each other at all.
I try not to spook them when they are out there as I may have to eat them some day.

25 We have been adopted by a lady cat and she's just had her baby, sex undetermined, (seems like one only or only survivor). She's been featured on the Ciampino's Rescue Kittens and is the calico cat. I personally haven't seen the baby but Daughter tells me it looks like its mother.
So now we have been adopted by three outside cats and a kitten: Mr Grey, Rose and Calico with baby. Got to find a name for both. We are debating whether to bring Calico and Baby in during the winter, also to avoid Mum getting pregnant again as Mr Grey is still a male with dangles.

28 I visited the river today and had the good luck to observe a little blue heron from about 15 yds for several minutes. His cheek(?) was puffing like he was saying something, but I could not hear. Very long bill, very long and agile neck, very long skinny legs.

Bless the animals and all the people who love and care for them.

29 And speaking of doors, I am trying to put a door on the old office, so Trouble can spend the night there and not freak my dog and cat out. Of course, the door I bought is about a half inch too tall, even though I measured. It seems that the bedroom door opening is taller, so I am moving the door from that room over and putting the new door on the bedroom. I think it will work.

Trouble came in with us the other night at about 11:30 and slept peacefully in the office till about 5:30. I think he'll be fine if I can control his access better.

35 Afternoon, folken,

Beautiful Pet Morons today! The majestic "Wally" looks something like my late longhaired red tabby Arizona, he of the white jabot and frequently difficult attitude. Red cats have that rep, of being quirky. Often they live up to that rep.

Odd that I've never had another red tabby since he passed in '99.

I've watched rhinos at an open zoo (quite tame animals) eat thorn branches about 1 to 1½ inches in diameter with 2 inch thorns - no problem, just chew down and it all mashes up. Leaves are still a delicacy though.

She is not a demonstrative cat, not a lap cat or anything, but she is usually near me, in the same room, and sometimes sleeps with me.

43 14 ... Hadrian,

Thanks but we are the ones who are blessed. Precious has been a wonderful addition to our life. She needed extensive dental work and had a UTI, now all resolved. (The vet costs might be why she was turned in to the shelter but we don't know.) She has two modes: tail wagging happy and sound asleep. She excels at both. And while she never tries to climb onto us or the furniture she wants proximity. If we are in different rooms she shuttles between rooms so we are never lonely.

Hadn't thought of tha as a hazard to a koi pond. I definitely won't try it here then. There are many GBH living in the Miami Valley, I've seen them within 10 aerial miles of the river. I can always recognize them and cormorants, for those birds fly like nothing else in the skies of Ohio.

I wish I could see that kitten and evaluate her. Our Anko-chan is deathly ill and is declining. All she does now is sleep & eat & poop. Sometimes she makes it to the litter box, sometimes it seems like too much effort. She hardly even asks CPTN Charles for cuddles, and that is saddening. Yeah, I went through that with big Chekov in the winter of '21-'22.

The little black kitten (almost all black, a few white hairs on her chest) seemed very socialized and fairly healthy. She screeched like a crow to get human attention, but then was pretty quiet the rest of the time Miss Linda housed her.

A bald eagle nest is supposed to be on the Little Miami somewhere between Newton and Milford. I've joined Dad in searching for its location as much as we can without trespassing, but it's eluded us. No eagles near me, although red-tails and kestrels are not uncommon. The kestrels really like to hover along divided highways, searching for small furry things.

56 We have a number of hawks in the area but only see Cooper's hawks in the yard for some reason. I assume they are the reason we sometimes find a bundle of song bird feathers and have had a few crash into windows getting away from a predator.

57 54 Kestrels are one of those birds that's easy to identify by its perching habits. Ours sit solitary, choosing a spot on the wire closely bisecting the distance between adjacent poles. They rock a little, and their silhouette is distinctive. Their hovering is delightful.

In the early 1990s we brought over from Africa 3 cats that we got at the shelter there: a black male kitten, a mummy cat and one of her daughters, a calico. The cost was the equivalent of just under $10 each for neutering and all.
Vets and doctors are exorbitant here. A set of (human) chest x-rays there was also about $10.

I'm left with the plethora of cats and kittens but everyone is asleep or at least resting. Nothing is moving. I have one cat, Squeak sleeping next to me and that's it, not even a lap cat.
Squeak is probably the smallest of all our cats, ignoring the growing kittens, and she was brought to us in June 2018, by our neighbor who found this tiny, tiny kitten in the hen house. Not sure how she got there. I named her because that's what she sounds like.
