Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Report: Marvel Executive Fired For Not Sounding the Alarm on the Female-Centric Direction of the "Blade" MovieBefore getting to that, I want to address the three or four complainers who whine when I put up a Disney post. Disney is -- or until recently, was -- the most important and powerful media propaganda machine in history. I don't know why some are attempting to nag me into not covering this story -- is it because Trump says the feud with Disney is "so unnecessary"? Is it because you want to tell us for the thousandth time you think that any media made after 1981 is silly? Is it possible that some of Disney's bots are infecting the comments? -- but I'm going to keep covering it, and I don't want to hear it for the twentieth time that you don't want to hear it. You've made your point. We will have to agree to disagree, and you will have to disagree silently, because I am sick of your insipid Get Off Of My Old Lawn carping. If you don't think that this kind of propaganda directed at children is worth covering...[ ] Not Noted And that's the end of that. Further bullshit along these lines will be met with timeouts and banning. Now with that said -- now that they crochety cranks are all out fishing or whatever the fuck they tell us to do instead of wasting our time on Disney -- on to the Daily Disney Disaster. The Fangs Are Female. Bounding Into Comics repeats the reporting from Variety that the Blade script evolved into something featuring three female leads ahead of the titular lead, and was about "life lessons." Reportedly, the executive overseeing that project has been fired for failing to sound the alarm. Disney is currently being humiliated as the phrase "Put a chick in it and make her gay, and make it laaaame" is being repeated as a meme. Which makes it all the funnier that they just dropped a trailer for their series "Echo." VarietyWell now wait, don't sell her short, Variety. She's female -- put a chick in it -- and she's also an amputee, missing her lower left leg, in addition to being racially diverse. Is she also gay? Well, we'll just have to see. And is it lame? Well, yes, obviously. Disney knows this movie is terrible so they're breaking their usual rule of releasing one episode per week and releasing this binge-style as Netflix does, so that critics only have a couple of days to talk about what a disaster it is. The Marvel series "Echo" -- which debuted its inaugural trailer on Friday and premieres on Jan. 10 -- contains several firsts for the company. It's the first Marvel Studios production that will debut simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu..Are they trying to drive Hulu's value down before the forced buy-out? ...the first that will have every episode available to binge at once and the first that will be rated TV-MA. And most importantly to director and executive producer Sydney Freeland ("Reservation Dogs"), it is the first superhero series ever to center on a deaf and a Native American character: Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), who made her debut in the 2021 series "Hawkeye." "Representation was extremely important to myself and to everyone on the crew," Freeland said at a press event for the series in October, where she was joined by executive producer Brad Winderbaum (who's also head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel). But while the filmmakers said the show had Indigenous and deaf representation in front of and behind the camera, there were further efforts made to ensure a high level of authenticity during production. Gina Carano blasts Disney again, saying that Bob Iger almost bought Twitter in 2016 to control the narrative, but then backed out when he realized that many "Twitter users" were bots. She suggests he then got a great idea: Why spend billions to buy twitter when you can spend a couple of million putting together a bot army to control the narrative instead? Gina CaranoThere is a lot of speculation that Gina Carano is ready to release the emails from Disney demanding that she stand for a Transgender Struggle Session, and more speculation that she's finally going to sue Disney for defamation. Meanwhile, box office projections for The Marvels continue to fall. The Marvels is expected to have a lower box office opening than anticipated, ranking below two of the DC Extended Universe's biggest failures. The movie serves as a sequel to Captain Marvel, connecting the stories of Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan. Current ticket presale numbers project an opening weekend of around $70 million, falling behind Eternals, Black Adam, and The Flash in terms of box office performance. To counter that declining interest, Marvel put out the below... Catstream. It's a livestream with cats. No, this isn't a parody. They actually put up a livestream just showing cats for eight hours. Blade 3 also pissed of Wesley Snipes because Ryan Reynolds and blonde hottie character (Jessica Biehl?) were stealing every scene and the movie wasn't really about the title character, Blade.

It was a little bigger than my palm but was good at climbing . It climbed up to my shoulder. an sat on my shoulder. The woman lives in a senior facility and was looking after the kitten today for someone who comes in to do hair styling. It was part Maine Coon. It would be good in a movie.

++++ Yup. I agree. Disney is very newsworthy. We're watching Dow component melt down in real time, and it's due almost entirely to a combination of gross mismanagement (malmanagement?), much of it in the name of pushing the leftist agenda. You may think American media is beneath your consideration. You are wrong. It is incubator, disseminator, and propagator for every sick and destructive idea that is currently destroying this country.
++++ The world. It doesn't stop with this country. American media is an enormous megaphone, and this shit crosses borders. Macron is self-serving when he talks about the cultural rot coming from the US (and he conveniently leaves out the French philosophical underpinnings of the entire damn movement), but he isn't wrong about the amplification effect it has. Why is "BLM" active in ... England? It makes no sense. Why is race-based American "social justice" theory so common in Europe? We export our culture. It doesn't stop here, and the destruction of these indoctrination complexes - and they are by no means destroyed but they are hurting - has global (or at least pan-western) implications. In a development which, if true, would be one of the most surprising things to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent memory, a new report has claimed that the Marvel executive responsible for their Blade reboot has been sacked for intentionally lying to studio boss Kevin Feige about just how truly disastrous the film was shaping up to be.
++++ Bullshit. Oh, he may have been fired and this may be the stated reason, but I would bet real money that it's because this is news Feige didn't want to hear and everyone knew it. Marvel is what Feige has made it. It's in his image, just like how Lucasfilm is in Kennedy's image. They already fired the other guy, the guy who was focused on making money and leaving the message at the door if needed: Ike Perlmutter. They marginalized him but kept him the family in order to keep him quiet. Then, in what was probably a great error, Iger fired him and turned him lose. Do you really think anyone is going to be enthusiastic about raising concerns about quality or story in the post-Perlmutter era? I mean, they saw what happened to Perlmutter. you might realize that the biggest media company in the world is currently melting down due to incompetence and suicidal wokeness and waging culture war on its customers.
- It might be denial. For all of living memory, Disney was a thing that was always there, and we forget that it's been in trouble before, just for getting lame. But for most of that time it seemed unthninkable that there would ever be a world without Disney. And suddenly, that has become thinkable, and many may wish it were not so. "Representation was extremely important to myself and to everyone on the crew," Freeland said at a press event for the series in October, where she was joined by executive producer Brad Winderbaum (who's also head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel). But while the filmmakers said the show had Indigenous and deaf representation in front of and behind the camera, there were further efforts made to ensure a high level of authenticity during production.

Hey Disney, if you had solicited cat videos from your shrinking audience, edited to the interesting bits and overlaid the Marvel logo you might have had content that people would be willing to watch. How stupid, cheap, and lazy can you be? Mind, given the evil propaganda Disney pushes to kids the faster they die the better so I guess its an overall good that they released the boring shit. The Critical Drinker has a new video as of 4 days ago entitled "Marvel - Final Desperation": https://youtu.be/3X1qIZf0w9w
While he focuses on the Marvel portion of Disney, he draws attention to just how much they've screwed themselves and they're now starting to panic and try to fix that. About 8 1/2 minutes in he shifts towards the fact that what's really going to hurt Marvel + Disney is that a lot of their customer base have moved past anger/upset at what's been happening and have reached apathy, himself included. Those customers are going to be like Bud Light customers that stopped drinking the brand: They're gone, and they're not likely to come back. Disney and Marvel are reaping what they sowed. Good. Not every Western needs to be Silverado (though....I do love Silverado). Unforgiven is a serious movie about serious stuff, so maybe it comes off dour. But it's good and it's made well. It looks at multiple sides of the issues of the film rather than a straightforward good guy vs bad guy.
But it does end with William Munny getting drunk and shooting the fuck out of the Law at the end. And then picking up his kids and moving to California. That's kinda uplifting. Its one of my top 100 films. Posted by: Mark Andrew Edwards, anti-Marxist, buy ammo at November 06, 2023 04:49 PM (xcxpd) 159

I wonder how much of the Democrat and leftist crybullying is based on Disney "kindergarten nice" BS?
For how many decades did they pump out the message that "good = nice" and "bad = mean?" So they now have legions of unthinking bots who reflexively oppose anyone accused of being mean? And yes, this topic is highly important. We can't take back the country until we take back the culture. And we can't take back the culture because we ceded it to the left. So, until it fails badly and painfully, they will still control the culture. Yes, entertainment is a huge part of culture-- the stories we tell each other are stories about us. Unpopular opinion: I never liked that movie. Too dour, and too self-consciously revisionist. Down to having the whole incident begin with a whore laughing at the size of a guy's penis. Really underlining the "we're subverting masculinity" thing.
Now a Josey Wales or a High Plains Drifter, that's a horse of a different color. Both of those were also revisionist but not so in-your-face about it. Posted by: ace at November 06, 2023 04:41 PM (KRtlO) Is it revisionist? I suppose it is. In that, most of what Hollowood created, depicting the old west, was total horseshit. Entertaining, at times, but horseshit nonetheless. I think Unforgiven was made to basically call that out, not just the anti-hero, but the guy who you end up rooting for, even though he's a no good scoundrel, and in the end, there ain't no good guys. Just people. Much better than endless remakes of Scorsese flicks, where the gangsters of one stripe or another, continue to get away with it, until they don't. Yawn. I mostly lurk, but since you're addressing it directly: I deeply enjoy your long Disney takedowns. I also understand why people are annoyed by them. I am annoyed at myself for liking them. They are heavily reminiscent of Those People. I'm not singling out channels, but you know who I mean. The people in what can be called the chud-o-sphere of Youtube. Those hosts with dolls on the wall, the cartoon avatar people, who stretch 20-40 seconds of news into 9-17 minute videos many, many times each day, almost every day.
These channels started as rebellious and countercultural in the late 2010s, they were essential workers through covid, but now they're just kind of pathetic because nobody is watching the shit they cover and they have nothing really to say that 80% of the public doesn't agree with. They're just farming their grift and never say anything to make their audience mad. I still graze over them for news because the media essentially no longer exists, but I hate myself the way I do when I house a sleeve of Oreos. Anyway, keep up the good work. Dunno if true but I read somewhere there's a new Robin Hood movie in the works. Guess what? This Robin will be an 11 year old girl. May not be gay but I'd put a 10-spot on her being moose-limb which actually nets more diversity points.

For what it's worth (not much), I have just avoided these threads. I understand precisely ZERO of the youtuber/influencer beefs in the media space, so that's all lost on me. I just know there's a dude who calls himself Doomcock. I know we're all rooting for Disney to implode but I personally don't see it happening. There is way too much capital and clout behind it to have it either burn to the ground or be transformed (back) into a media company that isn't focused laser-like on weird shit and grooming kids. Just feels like beating the remnants of a dead horse that has been so thoroughly beaten before that it's a barely-recognizable pile of hooves and hair. Politics is downstream of culture, as Mr. Breitbart used to say. We should care what the media companies are doing, because those are the ones that produce new bits of culture. They're the caretakers, curators, and shapers of our mythology, and if you don't think that's important, I have to wonder what planet you've been living on. This is the cultural programming that gets fed to children that passes on society's expectations to them - of what's valued and what's disdained, etc. In the wrong hands, this can do incalculable damage.

IMHO there is no easier way to help 'disengaged normies' see what's happening to our country better than talking about what's going on with Disney (and Hollywood, but Disney *is* much of Hollywood, and people expect Disney to be more American / family-oriented and Hollywood to be more adult & leftist) and then showing how equivalent shifts are happening in other places of our lives (schools, other media, etc.). That's the mark of a good producer, and getting someone like James Gunn to come on board and make a distinctly James Gunn film while still feeling like the overall framework was good work. That there was this overarching plot that came together was remarkable. But the machine eventually took over. He went from being a Thalberg to a Mayer, and Mayer proceeded to tank MGM when Thalberg died. I got to see Roger Corman at the Drive In Academy Awards last month, and he talked about being called up by SAG because all of his old proteges had put him in cameos. And SAG says, "Well, you're working more than half our members, you have to join."
Heh. As for boob size, the only Corman opinion on the matter of boos came when Joe Bob Briggs asked him what determined the success of a teen comedy, and he replied (dead serious) "the number of bare breasts". Thus the Breast Count was born! Posted by: moviegique at November 06, 2023 05:03 PM (asXVI) 284

One of the things that bothered me about the South Park Panderverse episode, and Critical Drinker's review of it, is the idea that people complaining about progressive politics and the like are 'part of the problem'.
It's ok, apparently, to have progressive propaganda shoved down your throat. But you aren't supposed to complain about it or you're a 'toxic fan'. Fuck that. If they get to play politics in film, so do I. Having now watched the South Park episode, I agree 100%. Some of it was really funny, but some of it was also very try-hard about blaming everyone. And we are both in agreement on this. I think I am still supposed to give you my money but I am unsure when and how this is supposed to happen. Is there a bin in front of the theaters where I am supposed to drive past and toss in twenty dollars?
In any event, if you promise to keep making movies like this, I will promise to stay at least 500 meters from any theater showing such films. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at November 06, 2023 05:05 PM (ELpxa) Joe, they won't do it - the bigger money "associate producer" that gets listed on the credits of a production does this for the connections, not the money. You fund me - I fund you. A lot of these are associate production mills - places you put your folding cash into so you can meet stars at after parties and get your picture taken - are place in which you increase your cache. The BLM shit pushed me out for good, but I already was one foot out the door. With challenges and what not, the game has gotten longer. I wouldn't say it's 'violent', at least not like it was in the 60's and 70's. It's not the NFL wasn't 'violent' during the same era. IIRC, Lasseter was brought on by Disney as head of Disney Animation, with the stipulation that Pixar remain independent.
He killed the DTV/TV mill that had been doing the same thing Disney is doing now in the main: Taking existing properties and making cheap copies, in this case for direct-to-video sequels and TV series. ("Cinderella 3", anyone?) He salvaged Bolt, Tangled, and told the animators to run with their modification of Frozen (which is flawed but you can't argue with its success). Then he got #metood. This isn't a Disney related product but...Finally!
"Attack on Titan" ended. And ended as poorly as it seemed destined to do once, the show runners decided that the hero was actually the villain, and those who were beset and besieged by the Titans were actually the evil race of Titans, even though they had no knowledge of that, who needed to commit self-genocide. Yep, that was actually the story. Anyway, almost everyone died. And the favorite trope of lame-ass poorly written stories that everything that had happened had happened before over and over and never changed. And if you watch the credits you'll see that humanity wipes itself out becuz- Nothing Changed!!!! This is why the interest in streaming series has declined. They start a series with an interesting plot or idea, and then have to fuck around until they just run with something stupid and end the series. I'm guessing that any series that lasts beyond three seasons probably doesn't have an endgame and isn't worth watching. YMMV. "Attack on Titan" started well and ended as an execrable pile o'poo. Imagine that. Posted by: naturalfake at November 06, 2023 05:23 PM (QzZeQ) 433

418 I wouldn't say it's 'violent', at least not like it was in the 60's and 70's. It's not the NFL wasn't 'violent' during the same era. The difference I see is that in hockey, you have to understand how a play develops and how certain things can affect the play in order to anticipate where the action is gonna happen.

From my perspective (as a kid who grew up watching and playing hockey) the principal defensive strategy is that there are 4 guys who make the 'box' to take away the passing lanes, and one who pursues and checks the guy with the puck. The box is fluid in that the one who checks the guy with the puck can be anyone of the guys in the box. They just move interchangeably in and out of the structure as the puck moves about the defensive zone.

I thought football was originally a game played by Native American Indians.
------------ IIRC, Mesoamerican ball technology was at a low ebb so the peaceful native Americans used human heads. Posted by: Cicero (@cicero43) at November 06, 2023 05:29 PM (guGkK) Well yeah. Agreed on the importance of covering Disney. This is more important than today's ephemeral political topics, because it sets the cultural ground rules for politics for the next generation. There's a reason the kids in college today have the political sensibilities of Red Guards.
Today's Disney isn't the Disney of 1970, which just ran parks, and made movies. They have their fingers in virtually every type of media and entertainment pie, from news to sports to television to movies (they own eight different studios). It's the corporation with the biggest single influence on the culture, and 2/3rds of the stock is owned by "large financial institutions", which are heavily influenced by the government. This is pretty far down in the comments, but I'm wondering if there's been any discussion anywhere regarding the woke excesses engaged by the likes of Disney and others being a product of extremely cheap money from 2008 through 2022.
Debt was historically cheap during this time and it allowed those who already had assets to leverage them and either acquire more or use the money for woke vanity projects that would have never been greenlit from the 80s through 00s. Some companies, notably Netflix, learned their lesson more quickly than others. That's not to say Netflix doesn't have its share of woke claptrap, but they did keep Dave Chapelle around and showed the "Dear White People" idiocy the door. Unlike Disney, their stock price is also much higher compared to four years ago and is up 2.5x from the lows last year. Posted by: Trich at November 06, 2023 05:42 PM (7wCmd) 553

Here's how to explain your decision to cover Disney. For the past decade, at least, nearly all of the entertainment/culture industry has been taking its cues from Disney. It's Patient Zero for the Woke Plague in entertainment. The effects spread outward and affect places far removed from the Mouse House. If they someday decide to use CGI to re-edit all John Wayne's movies and make him a tranny, Disney is where they will get the idea.
It's like California. A lot of your readers don't live in California and don't care what goes on there, which is understandable. But a lot of leftoids around the US take their cues from California, so if something catches on there, it's probably only a matter of time until it shows up in your hometown. Disney is the same thing. Posted by: Ex-liberal at November 06, 2023 06:10 PM (XdH1u) 568
Ace's take on the Star Wars series parallels my own; namely, they've sucked for a very long time. The first one (1977 ?) was great--groundbreaking even. Since then it's been steeply downhill. I occasionally watch one just to point and laugh at how stupid it is, along with the abysmal acting.

1) They just extended Iger's contract. 2) It's been two full years since Disney stock began it's precipitous decline, from a high of ~190 to 84 at close of trading yesterday. It's now trading where it was ten years ago. Gains from 2014-2021 have been wiped out. As a trader I look for bargains, and have learned not to let my politics interfere (just look at Facebook's impressive recovery), but I wonder if there's a way forward for Disney. Even at 84, it's still trading with a P/E of 68. If profit margins improve to 10% of revenue, it would still be trading at a P/E of 17. Disney is sitting on a treasure trove of American culture - movies, franchises and characters that have immense global appeal. It certainly can recover - if it jettisons the politics and starts making shows people want to see. Posted by: Johari Matahari at November 07, 2023 06:40 AM (fztae) 583

1) DeSantis's actions work because they call attention to Disney's Woke policies. More people are aware of what Disney is doing because DeSantis called them out on it. 2) It also works because it puts businesses on notice that Woke policies come with a cost. It alerts them that Republicans aren't going to keep fellating them even as they screw us over politically. Businesses embrace Woke policies because Republicans don't make them pay a price for those policies. I don't get that more Republicans don't understand that. Republicans believe in fighting crime, and in fighting wars. But when it comes to fighting the Culture Wars, suddenly too many of us are singing Kumbaya and engaging in unilateral disarmament.
