Report: Marvel Executive Fired For Not Sounding the Alarm on the Female-Centric Direction of the "Blade" Movie

Before getting to that, I want to address the three or four complainers who whine when I put up a Disney post.

Disney is -- or until recently, was -- the most important and powerful media propaganda machine in history. I don't know why some are attempting to nag me into not covering this story -- is it because Trump says the feud with Disney is "so unnecessary"? Is it because you want to tell us for the thousandth time you think that any media made after 1981 is silly? Is it possible that some of Disney's bots are infecting the comments? -- but I'm going to keep covering it, and I don't want to hear it for the twentieth time that you don't want to hear it.

You've made your point. We will have to agree to disagree, and you will have to disagree silently, because I am sick of your insipid Get Off Of My Old Lawn carping.

If you don't think that this kind of propaganda directed at children is worth covering...

Is your objection to talking about Disney that Disney makes media for children and you are an adult? I would think propaganda directed at children would be more objectionable than that directed at adults.

Yes, I'm covering Disney a lot lately. That's because there's a lot of news lately. If you bothered to read the posts instead of assuming, as you apparently do, that they consist of me evaluating the quality of the latest Ant-Man movie, you might realize that the biggest media company in the world is currently melting down due to incompetence and suicidal wokeness and waging culture war on its customers.

I think that's a story worth covering. A lot? Well, when there's a lot of news, yes. I've been covering Israel a lot lately, not just randomly, but because there's a lot of news out of Israel.

And likewise there is a lot of news about Disney's disarray.

I work here. I have to be here. You do not have to be here. So if you don't like a post, do us both a favor and fuck the fuck off for an hour while we discuss is. I don't want to hear for the millionth time that you haven't watched a movie since John Wayne.

This isn't about what fucking movies you don't like. I have not reviewed a Disney movie in five years. I was boycotting Star Wars before anyone else.

I don't watch these movies either, fucknuts. So you're not trumping me on the "who doesn't watch Disney more" front.

This is a business/culture/politics story, not about your need to tell us for the thousandth time that you don't watch superhero movies.

NONE OF US WATCH SUPERHERO MOVIES ANY LONGER, IDIOTS.

This is about a woke propaganda megacorporation and taking it down. Stop making this about you and your endless need to instruct us all on what you think is important.

By the way, I have no problem with the statement "I haven't watched a movie since 1975" or whatever. My problem is when this statement is used to try to shame other people for caring about what the fuck is going on with American media. And it's a super-gay self-brag about how Above It All the speaker is.

You may think American media is beneath your consideration. You are wrong. It is incubator, disseminator, and propagator for every sick and destructive idea that is currently destroying this country.

And I don't want to have to justify this obvious truth any longer. If you disagree, then simply remove yourself from the conversation.

You may think that constantly repeating "I think this is silly and you are silly for reporting on it" makes you sound tough, serious-minded, and manly. It doesn't. It makes you sound like a bitchy old woman complaining that the conversation has briefly turned from crocheting to macrame and she doesn't like this new direction at all.

You certainly are not required to be interested in this story. But you are required to allow other people to be interested it without the daily drumbeat of trying to shame me from covering it.

Incidentally, there is news on this topic literally every day lately, but I don't post every day. I let some stories build up over a couple of days and then publish about all of them at once --precisely so I don't hit the same subject matter every day.

And as I always tell people, my threads are always open threads. If you want to bring up another article or news item, have at it.

But I don't want to hear for the 5000th time about what your viewing preferences are. I got it the first 5000 times.

Bounding Into Comics repeats the reporting from Variety that the Blade script evolved into something featuring three female leads ahead of the titular lead, and was about "life lessons."

Reportedly, the executive overseeing that project has been fired for failing to sound the alarm.

In a development which, if true, would be one of the most surprising things to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent memory, a new report has claimed that the Marvel executive responsible for their Blade reboot has been sacked for intentionally lying to studio boss Kevin Feige about just how truly disastrous the film was shaping up to be.

Speaking to the topic of Blade during the November 1st episode of his and film critic John Rocha's The Hot Mic live show, [Jeff] Sneider informed his co-host that while he was unsure if Siegel's description of the film's current state was "100% accurate", he was aware that "the executive who is working on Blade basically tried to obscure what was going to be in this draft from [the film's writer] Stacy Osei-Kuffour."
"He either tried to intentionally obfuscate what the draft was going to entail," said Sneider. "Another source put it as he didn't sound the alarm on the process and what trouble the project was in."
To this end, the reporter then divulged, "And they've been, I'm told, that he was fired."

He further detailed how, "My source said, and you know Marvel didn't comment on anything like this, but they said it's one of the few times that anyone has actually ever heard Kevin Feige yell at someone. That was the quote. We could change that to 'raised voice', but it was one of the few times that this individual had heard Kevin ever raise his voice."
Drawing his scoop to a close, Sneider asserted, "So the executive on Blade -- who I'm not going to name, you can maybe figure out who it is -- is no longer with Marvel. And that is confirmed."

Disney is currently being humiliated as the phrase "Put a chick in it and make her gay, and make it laaaame" is being repeated as a meme.

Which makes it all the funnier that they just dropped a trailer for their series "Echo."

The Marvel series "Echo" -- which debuted its inaugural trailer on Friday and premieres on Jan. 10 -- contains several firsts for the company. It's the first Marvel Studios production that will debut simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu..

Gina Carano blasts Disney again, saying that Bob Iger almost bought Twitter in 2016 to control the narrative, but then backed out when he realized that many "Twitter users" were bots.

She suggests he then got a great idea: Why spend billions to buy twitter when you can spend a couple of million putting together a bot army to control the narrative instead?

What do you think that "substantial portion" of fake users grew to from 2016 to before Elon Musk took over X/Twitter in 2022? How big did the bot armies get? Who were the bot armies created by & to do what?
Why buy Twitter & deal with that headache when you can create armies of bots & control the narrative for much, much less money & energy. They didn't need to buy Twitter, they just needed to buy the narrative.
Why does everyone just laugh off the fact that when the suits do something wrong it's, "Oh how silly of those silly little harmless suits." Instead of the suits being forced to grovel & correct the wrong they do just like they demand so many others to. It's not like they don't know how to apologize, they wrote the playbook on fake apologies. This action of bot armies is actually a much bigger offense than people are realizing. How many lives were ruined because of twitter bots cancelling them? In defamation law suits you need to have evidence of intent to do harm. Defamation law suits are very tricky, especially when you're going up against someone with endless amounts of cash. I would say sending in bot armies to go after people they don't agree with more than qualifies as intent to harm & I believe a jury would agree.
Could get very interesting if ex or current employees came forward with more evidence.

There is a lot of speculation that Gina Carano is ready to release the emails from Disney demanding that she stand for a Transgender Struggle Session, and more speculation that she's finally going to sue Disney for defamation.

Meanwhile, box office projections for The Marvels continue to fall.

The Marvels is expected to have a lower box office opening than anticipated, ranking below two of the DC Extended Universe's biggest failures.
The movie serves as a sequel to Captain Marvel, connecting the stories of Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan.
Current ticket presale numbers project an opening weekend of around $70 million, falling behind Eternals, Black Adam, and The Flash in terms of box office performance.

Yup. I agree. Disney is very newsworthy. We're watching Dow component melt down in real time, and it's due almost entirely to a combination of gross mismanagement (malmanagement?), much of it in the name of pushing the leftist agenda. Macron is self-serving when he talks about the cultural rot coming from the US (and he conveniently leaves out the French philosophical underpinnings of the entire damn movement), but he isn't wrong about the amplification effect it has. Why is "BLM" active in ... England? It makes no sense. Why is race-based American "social justice" theory so common in Europe?

Bullshit. Oh, he may have been fired and this may be the stated reason, but I would bet real money that it's because this is news Feige didn't want to hear and everyone knew it. Marvel is what Feige has made it. It's in his image, just like how Lucasfilm is in Kennedy's image.

They already fired the other guy, the guy who was focused on making money and leaving the message at the door if needed: Ike Perlmutter. They marginalized him but kept him the family in order to keep him quiet. Then, in what was probably a great error, Iger fired him and turned him lose.

Do you really think anyone is going to be enthusiastic about raising concerns about quality or story in the post-Perlmutter era? I mean, they saw what happened to Perlmutter.

About 8 1/2 minutes in he shifts towards the fact that what's really going to hurt Marvel + Disney is that a lot of their customer base have moved past anger/upset at what's been happening and have reached apathy, himself included.

Those customers are going to be like Bud Light customers that stopped drinking the brand: They're gone, and they're not likely to come back.

Disney and Marvel are reaping what they sowed. Good.

I think Shane did a better job of establishing tone than Unforgiven in a shorter time frame and maintained more of a LONGER enjoyable time frame- not just the last 10 mins. Those last ten minutes are dynamite in Unforgiven, but the rest of the movie is a slog.

158 Not every Western needs to be Silverado (though....I do love Silverado). Unforgiven is a serious movie about serious stuff, so maybe it comes off dour. But it's good and it's made well. It looks at multiple sides of the issues of the film rather than a straightforward good guy vs bad guy.

But it does end with William Munny getting drunk and shooting the fuck out of the Law at the end. And then picking up his kids and moving to California.

That's kinda uplifting.

Its one of my top 100 films.

Entertaining, at times, but horseshit nonetheless. I think Unforgiven was made to basically call that out, not just the anti-hero, but the guy who you end up rooting for, even though he's a no good scoundrel, and in the end, there ain't no good guys. Just people.

The trouble with Disney (and they share it with other entertainment firms) is the timeline. Even if they throw the brakes on *now* and get to work fixing it at warp speed, there's so much bad shit in the pipeline that they have to release that it's a 5-7 year period before there can be a few non-shit releases to start recovering the brand.

There is a point that it wouldn't fully implode - but if it goes down hard enough, it'll end up being sold off, and possibly parted-out to buyers as various divisions get snapped up.

They probably can't, at least not with a bunch of stuff. Batgirl was weird in that there were apparently no mandatory distribution contracts. Those are normal, though, and Disney will have to suffer even more cataclysmic losses to burn them.

They'd have to pay back the government of the UK for all the massive subsidies (those depend on release). They'd have to pay out distribution contracts. It will be too expensive. They probably *must* release a lot of what is in the pipeline, even if they know it will lose money - because it will lose *less* money than not releasing it. Smallest release they can get away with and with the least marketing possible, but they're going to have to release most of it.

Right, quite thinly veiled, but the audience kinda needed that. Remember, this is before Deadwood and now the modern version, Yellowstone, where westerns had more or less fallen out of favor, and here they were, revising the genre.

Only they had to warn the viewer "this ain't a John Wayne flick." And even then, they made you care about Munny, they made you root for him... only for him to turn out to be the low down dirty sonofabitch he was.

Not exactly M. Night Shyamalan level twist, but a twist nonetheless.

A large part of the problem is that Disney is NOT creating anything "new." They are repackaging the old in various ways, trying to milk the nostalgia angle for all it's worth. When is the last time there was a cultural phenomena on par with Star Wars? Or even Harry Potter (which is also being milked for nostalgia)?

275 They probably can't, at least not with a bunch of stuff. Batgirl was weird in that there were apparently no mandatory distribution contracts. Those are normal, though, and Disney will have to suffer even more cataclysmic losses to burn them.

They'd have to pay back the government of the UK for all the massive subsidies (those depend on release). They'd have to pay out distribution contracts. It will be too expensive. They probably *must* release a lot of what is in the pipeline, even if they know it will lose money - because it will lose *less* money than not releasing it. Smallest release they can get away with and with the least marketing possible, but they're going to have to release most of it.

Fort Smith has a very nice statue of Deputy Reeves and his dog (Deputy Dawg I guess) riding west to the Nations to bring back bad guys to be hanged at Judge Parker's convenience. Also, a statue of Judge Parker in Fort Smith is the spit 'n image of the guy in Grit 2.

I think he was able to balance the machine and the artists reasonably well for a decade. That's the mark of a good producer, and getting someone like James Gunn to come on board and make a distinctly James Gunn film while still feeling like the overall framework was good work. That there was this overarching plot that came together was remarkable.

But the machine eventually took over. He went from being a Thalberg to a Mayer, and Mayer proceeded to tank MGM when Thalberg died. It took a couple of decades, but it was all about how he organized the management, which seems to have been similar to how Feige suddenly made Marvel so top-heavy with executives who were all going in different directions.

Yes, you can always buy your way out. But it might be too expensive to do it. The subsidies on Disney's catastrophically expensive movies alone can reach the $60 million+ range, and that's before even a single distribution contract is broken.

I read an article yesterday about the AMC movie theater chain, in which they interviewed the CEO. Bottom line: they're just trying to survive 2024. They hope that 2025 will be better and they can grow again (thrive), but for the life of me, I can't figure out the basis for that hope. Theaters are a thing of the past.

Rookie CJ Stroud on Houston Texans is fun to watch. Plus Texans kicker got hurt so a running back was called on for a field goal. Right down the middle like a boss. There is something about the joy of sports that even the NFL can't quash.

Joe, they won't do it - the bigger money "associate producer" that gets listed on the credits of a production does this for the connections, not the money. You fund me - I fund you. A lot of these are associate production mills - places you put your folding cash into so you can meet stars at after parties and get your picture taken - are place in which you increase your cache.

The BLM shit pushed me out for good, but I already was one foot out the door. With challenges and what not, the game has gotten longer. In my market, they prioritized commercials over the game, so you'd end up missing a play or more before they came back. Free agency make hometown teams something rather less than a hometeam. Criminals and the openness of ghetto culture. Unsportsmanlike behavior. Breast cancer awareness. Anti domestic violence ads everytime one of these hulks slaps his babymama. I just ended up hating the NFL.

I wouldn't say it's 'violent', at least not like it was in the 60's and 70's. It's not the NFL wasn't 'violent' during the same era. The difference I see is that in hockey, you have to understand how a play develops and how certain things can affect the play in order to anticipate where the action is gonna happen.

My media room is shaping up nicely. The left wall is solid bookcases filled with movies that finally get to sit out instead of in a closet.

The 75 inch TV is mounted nicely on the wall.

The theater seats are not plugged in, so they don't recline, but that's to be addressed later. Can't hang anything, though, because we're getting the walls painted in a few weeks.

He killed the DTV/TV mill that had been doing the same thing Disney is doing now in the main: Taking existing properties and making cheap copies, in this case for direct-to-video sequels and TV series. ("Cinderella 3", anyone?)

He salvaged Bolt, Tangled, and told the animators to run with their modification of Frozen (which is flawed but you can't argue with its success).

Iwas amzed the first time I saw a hockey game live. It was fantastic but almost the same thing can be said about basketball and soccer. You really can't see the play develop unless the entire court is in your field of vision. The camera just follows the puck or ball.

But attending a game is super fun. I've seen the Avalanche once and the Colorado Eagles several times. Just a blast.

Saw a Broncos game live once. Aside from the cheerleaders it was "meh." I thought it was funny that it was sunny and 70 when we got to the game, but it was snowing at the end of the 4th quarter.

there were three peaks, each a little lesser than the previous.

Original Cast - Akroyd, Murray, Belushi, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtain - one of the greatest comedy teams of all time.

Second Peak - Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz era - almost as good as the first.

Third Peak - David Spade, Norm MacDonald era. Not as consistently good as the previous, but still a lot of Laugh Out Loud moments.

Since then - nope, straight downhill, never pulled out of the dive.

552 This is pretty far down in the comments, but I'm wondering if there's been any discussion anywhere regarding the woke excesses engaged by the likes of Disney and others being a product of extremely cheap money from 2008 through 2022.

Debt was historically cheap during this time and it allowed those who already had assets to leverage them and either acquire more or use the money for woke vanity projects that would have never been greenlit from the 80s through 00s.

Some companies, notably Netflix, learned their lesson more quickly than others. That's not to say Netflix doesn't have its share of woke claptrap, but they did keep Dave Chapelle around and showed the "Dear White People" idiocy the door. Unlike Disney, their stock price is also much higher compared to four years ago and is up 2.5x from the lows last year.

There is a "sports bar" near where we live, and sometimes go there because they have great hamburgers. And about 19 big screen TV's around the room. That's about the ONLY place I see football of any kind, anymore.
Really. I was a YUGE Brown's fan for YEARS, and that experience, at the end, taught me that the owners basically don't like the fans at all, just their money.
Big time college football makes me nauseous, too. I live in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio, and have followed the Buckeyes since 1967. I can't watch this crap anymore. And all the college teams are the same, with paid off players, etc. It all smells.

It's Patient Zero for the Woke Plague in entertainment. The effects spread outward and affect places far removed from the Mouse House. If they someday decide to use CGI to re-edit all John Wayne's movies and make him a tranny, Disney is where they will get the idea.

It's like California. A lot of your readers don't live in California and don't care what goes on there, which is understandable. But a lot of leftoids around the US take their cues from California, so if something catches on there, it's probably only a matter of time until it shows up in your hometown. It won't take that much. Investors expect both growth and profit. They'll be patient for a few quarters, but if things don't turn around Iger and the board will be out. There has already been a serious challenge from a large investor demanding three seats on the board. Current management is hanging on by a thread.

1) They just extended Iger's contract.

2) It's been two full years since Disney stock began it's precipitous decline, from a high of ~190 to 84 at close of trading yesterday. It's now trading where it was ten years ago. Gains from 2014-2021 have been wiped out. As a trader I look for bargains, and have learned not to let my politics interfere (just look at Facebook's impressive recovery), but I wonder if there's a way forward for Disney. Even at 84, it's still trading with a P/E of 68. If profit margins improve to 10% of revenue, it would still be trading at a P/E of 17. Disney is sitting on a treasure trove of American culture - movies, franchises and characters that have immense global appeal. It certainly can recover - if it jettisons the politics and starts making shows people want to see.

1) DeSantis's actions work because they call attention to Disney's Woke policies. More people are aware of what Disney is doing because DeSantis called them out on it.

2) It also works because it puts businesses on notice that Woke policies come with a cost. It alerts them that Republicans aren't going to keep fellating them even as they screw us over politically. Businesses embrace Woke policies because Republicans don't make them pay a price for those policies. I don't get that more Republicans don't understand that. Republicans believe in fighting crime, and in fighting wars. But when it comes to fighting the Culture Wars, suddenly too many of us are singing Kumbaya and engaging in unilateral disarmament.
