Vienna Unveils $2 Million New Fountain and Oh Boy Where Do We Start

Everything woke turns to shit.

We can't have sculptures made by people who actually know how to sculpt -- that is White Supremacy In Action.

Instead, we have to hire homeless people who make "outsider art" and unskilled cretins who make "Naive art" (innocent of any actual training or technique) and "primitive art."

And this is what you get.

Sound on:

Fountains are important artifacts of civilization. Consider, a city water system makes the city possible. People would literally die without it. Some would die of thirst, others of cholera.

But a water system is almost entirely underground. Invisible. Forgettable.

A fountain is a celebration of vital civil engineering. It's a little show-offy, but without it, you might completely forget that men worked hard under dangerous conditions to bring life-giving water into a settlement and thereby make civilization possible.

And here's your tribute!

The city of Vienna, Austria, unveiled a 1.8 million euro ($1.9 million) fountain on Oct. 23 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the city's modern water system, Heute reported.

The city initially thought the project would cost 2.1 million euros, but the fountain, which includes 33 abstract humanoid figures, came in under budget, Heute reported.

"Abstract humanoid figures" = crap that idiot children made with cat poops

A water system is one of the great, um, fonts of civilization.

And this is how they honor it.

Viennese mayor Michael Ludwig and Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen attended the opening ceremony. "150 years ago, the water pipe brought the best quality drinking water to us from the Lower Austrian Alps. The day marks Vienna's liberation from water shortages and epidemics such as cholera," Ludwig tweeted in German.

"The name of the anniversary fountain 'WirWasser' ['WeWater' in English] stands for the responsibility that society bears for water. The structurally very demanding fountain was built in just eight months," wrote Ludwig.

That long?

Looks like you roughed it out over a (drinking) weekend.

Others took issue with the fountain's design. "Human language has no words to describe how hideously ugly this is," one user posted in German, while another asked if the fountain was "surrounded by aliens."

They destroyed the world and called it beautiful:

Contemporary public art and architecture are offensive on purpose. It's designed to degrade the public and enhance their subjugation through the imposition of oppressive ugliness and the grossly inappropriate.

The "Kuntshaus Graz" museum (museum of modern art built as a part of a "European Culture" program in the early aughts), also in Austria, is a prime example. It's an off-putting nightmare of inappropriate ugliness, imposing its will on the traditional architecture and aesthetic:

(Snow sculpting is hard, and if the temprature doesn't stay low enough, all the details vanish and larger parts get misshapen. Or if they melt before the judging. It earned me an A.

Not only are they making something ugly, but they're also depriving us of something we had that was beautiful. They're just straight up subtracting from the sum of human culture. 410 I think Lee was a vexing figure. I certainly don't agree with the side he took but he's nonetheless a historical figure. Before the war, he was certainly a fairly admirable person. That he took the side of the South was his downfall. But he also surrendered respectfully and Grant treated him with due respect. After the war, he spent a great deal of time trying to heals the wounds and bring the country back together. In the end, he tried to bring a reasoned end to our divisions and I believe he was somewhat regretful. I think you can argue some of those points, but you can't argue they are worth discussing and understanding so as not to repeat the past. I, at least personally believe that's what a statue of him should represent. But of course it doesn't to empty headed, vapid, dunces who are bound to repeat the past, only in new ways. YMMV.

It does have that "earthship" design flair to it. You know, with extra cob*, and less actual architectural ability

*Cob is a building material mixed from clay, dirt, chopped hay, and sometimes horse manure. It is known for it's middling durability, cheapness, ease of mixing, cracking during drying, tendency to make structures that look half melted to begin with, shagginess, and the ability to melt into mud if left unprotected and unrepaired.
It was paired with old tires and bottles in making dwellings for people who were "getting away from things" like 9o degree angles.
It is the "daub" part of wattle and daub. It used to be the future of sustainable architecture, along with rammed earth and thatch.

440 Our little burg commissioned an "art piece" for an iconic point at the ocean's edge.

The bitch "artist" turned out two rectangles at an angle to each other, with each rectangle featuring a about 20 vertical bars. In short, it looked like a prison motif.

After public outcry, the monstrosity was turn down. Mercifully.

Yeah. Lee was a great man. Wrong, but a man of his time.

However, the worthless merde-people that try to erase his memory from history are worthless and not fit to even lick Robert E. Lee's boots.

443 I think Lee was a vexing figure. YMMV.

Hi**er had some great ideas too, I mean look at the cute little car he inspired. Perhaps a statue to him is in order as well.

Strictly speaking, he took the side of Virginia, to which he considered he owed the greater allegiance than to the Union.

450 Yeah I don't think my point was to defend Lee or call him great. He's actually a tragic figure who didn't determine until it was too late that he was on the wrong side. People laugh about the states rights argument but when you actually read factual history that's what motivated many, even Lee to a large degree. Of course the main issue was ultimately slavery and its continuation. So there's a lot to unpack. But nonetheless we can learn from the mistakes he made and accept him as a historical figure without saying a monument lauds those values. That seems to me a rather narrow perspective.

This is an excellent point and something people don't realize about that time period. There was indeed great allegiance to the states and states rights during that time period. If you go back to our founding that type of allegiance drove the entire concept of federalism. I think a lot of that is lost in the fact the morally indefensible evil issue of slavery became the main issue.
