The DOJ Spied on Congressional Investigators Doing Oversight on the DOJ

Several current and former congressional oversight staff have been recently informed that the U.S. Justice Department seized their phone and email records back in 2017 as part of leak investigations, belated revelations that have touched off an inquiry by DOJ's internal watchdog and raised serious concerns about the separation of powers between the executive and legislative branches.
Over the last week, several current and former Senate and House staff from both political parties have alerted Congress that they received belated notifications from Apple, Google or other Big Tech firms that their email or phone records were obtained from their personal devices via a grand jury subpoena.
Officials said the seizures were related, in part, to leak investigations stemming from the FBI's now-discredited Crossfire Hurricane investigation into Russia collusion.
The targeted staffers include people who worked for the Senate Judiciary and House Intelligence committees who have direct oversight responsibility for the FBI and Justice Department, raising concerns that the legislative branch overseers were being monitored by those they oversee in the executive branch.
"The Justice Department's secret targeting of congressional investigators is a new low in the agency's sordid history of abusing its authority to evade accountability," Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley, the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, told Just the News on Monday evening.
At least one of Grassley's former investigators when the senator chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee and helped uncover FBI wrongdoing in the Russia case, Jason Foster, recently received a notification of a subpoena dating to fall 2017.
"Ever since the botched Crossfire Hurricane investigation came to light, the FBI and Justice Department have gone to great lengths to cover up and distract from their own malfeasance. Their actions only serve to underscore the importance of Congress' constitutional oversight responsibility. This attack on congressional investigators will not deter us from that duty, and the department must answer for this abuse," Grassley also said.
The newly notified congressional investigators join former House Intelligence Committee chief investigative counsel Kash Patel and one other aide who served on that same panel who got notifications last year. Patel recently sued the government for violations of his civil liberties.
The notifications suggest the grand jury probe began in the U.S. Attorney's office in Washington, D.C., under the Trump DOJ, involved leaks of sensitive information that had been shared with Congress in 2017 and targeted Republicans and Democrats, including former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff. Those notified have expressed shock as well as outrage.

The DOJ "under Trump" wasn't under Trump. Trump's pick for AG recused himself, and the Russiagate matter which occupied so much of the DOJ's time and resources was headed by the Democrat-approved ~~Ron Rosenberg~~ Rod Rosenstein [CBD].

As for Adam Schiff -- well, Schiff is widely, widely suspected of walking out of every classified briefing and leaking a (dishonest) account of what he just heard to his media pals.

Go out to some BLM land and take some pumpkins with you. Put the gourds about 10-15 yards away and plink away with a .22. You don't have to worry about policing your targets, I'd pick up some brass though.

I know the basics and I hit what I'm shooting at. I don't know much about hitting things beyond about 300 yards. I know there's Appleseed classes, but I think most people who go to those have a .22 with a 30x scope on. I'm not sure they'd appreciate my .308 with a compensator and 8x scope.

I would add moving your body in the prone position until closing your eye and relaxing to see if you are still lined upon the target. When you do that then the only thing to worry about is breath control and trigger squeeze. Basically, finding your bone structure so you don't use muscles to aim with.

I go to a nearby range in Puyallup and do OK at 200 yards. I have taken it out to 300 yards and I can keep it on target. Beyond that I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know much about using my reticle properly for drop and windage and all that for variable range targets.

Yes, this is right. The Congress could - theoretically - zero their budgets and pass laws abolishing the agencies. This also *should* happen (should have happened a long time ago). This will, however, *not* happen and neither will any kind of "reform" as a result of "oversight."

Except that every single politician in the national government is a dyed-in-the-wool criminal and general-purpose monster. The "good" ones merely steal everything that isn't nailed down. The worse ones launch wars, rape people, extort cash and sex, run slaves, etc. The level of guilt varies, but they *all* play these games.

And the IC knows it. They have thick dossiers on all of these people, past and present. Any congressman that tries to rein them in will be destroyed by them and what they know. Every single person in Congress (or any power position in Washington) knows approximately what is in his file, and therefore knows to be afraid of it.

Very few, if any, are shooting.22lr beyond 300 yards unless they are playing artilleryman. Seriously, the holdover for that is unbelievable. Most ranges have "set asides" for 22lr and they are only 50 yds.

The majority of outdoor ranges around here are 100 yds and they handle all rifles. I think we may have two, maybe three specialty ranges in Texas that go beyond 300 yds.

98 I go to a nearby range in Puyallup and do OK at 200 yards. I have taken it out to 300 yards and I can keep it on target. Beyond that I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know much about using my reticle properly for drop and windage and all that for variable range targets.

You shooting with glass? Do the bone structure first. Then understand elevation and windage by studying the owners manual. Zero your rifle at 100 yards. Then determine your dope at 200, 300 and 500. Write this shit down as you go. Elevation should be easy. Windage will always vary over time.

Take a trip out to SpragueWA (near Fish Trap lake) and bring some cardboard backed targets. Set them up at 100yrds and get groupings down to quarter size. Move cardboard backed targets out to 200yrds and do the same. Past 200yrds you're going to have to get familiar with the scope and it's gradients.

Looks like I was late with the Appleseed recommendation, but you can run whatever you want. I ran it my second time with my FAL, lots of folks with ARs, and one guy even ran his Garand.

It's just cheaper to run .22.

Oh, and the class is designed around iron sights, but you are allowed optics if you want.

I have long been convinced that Washington is essentially an enormous mutual blackmail society. You *will* engage in crime - and the higher you go, the skeevier and worse the crimes - if you want to play in that venue. Had our first missile barrage to Jerusalem in the last 2 weeks this afternoon. The Mrs. and some grandkids had 90 seconds to walk (don't run) down a few flights to the building's shelter.

I don't find it weird at all that Epstein was accidentally taken off suicide watch, the two prison guards who were supposed to check in on him forged their paperwork and decided to take a nap, the two cameras aimed at his cell and the hallway were both not working, and a NY Post photographer just happened to be hanging out on the loading dock of the prison when Epsteins body was rolled out on a gourney, without a sheet or anything else covering it, and the photographer happened to get a bunch of pictures of the corpse, and the ears clearly don't match up with other pictures of Epsteins ears from when he was alive.

None of that is weird to me.

I'll give you another I rewatched a few months back - "Superfly". That is a damn good movie, with a strong plot and well developed characters that puts anything being made currently to shame. Shot on a very low budget, except that it is completely believable, because it was all on location. The protagonist is a classic anti-hero; he's a drug dealer, but he's also extremely intelligent and knows he's trapped in a situation that he has to get out of; and although it doesn't justify anything, *everyone* in his world is bad, to some degree or another. You empathize with him even if you don't want to.

This statute applies, squarely, to essentially anyone in the FBI and DOJ who had a hand in Cross Fire hurricane, from the fraudulent FISA documents, to bad faith continuation of "investigations" once it was apparent there was nothing to the issue, to spying on the Trump campaign under pretext of those investigations, to the spying on the potential leakers. Intolerable.
