Before we enter the Prayer Revival Chapel just a few simple housekeeping subjects. Or Rulz. 1) Open thread, feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away the morning.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 9/9 – San Franpsycho sent an update Paul, who we have been praying for as he deals with cancer,
has elected to discontinue further treatment of his cancer. Please continue to pray for his complete and immediate healing.
10/14 Update – Thank you for your prayers. They had a pizza party at Paul’s house to celebrate his birthday. San Franpsycho was thankful for the opportunity to tell his friend how much he loves him.
10/22 Update – Paul passed away. He was with his dear wife and son. May his memory be a blessing. Thank you to all who prayed and praise the Lord. 9/23 – Jim (in kalifornia) provided an update on his relatives. His father-in-law is better after having a vascular catheter put in and emergency dialysis. His wife suffered through helping him, and also ended up with a new tumor. She also missed about 5 treatments, so all her other tumor markers are way up.
9/30 Update – Jim and his family could still use some prayers. His wife hasn’t been doing her cancer treatments. She has a new tumor in a new organ, a lung. His younger son is being a stupid teenager. They found drugs (weed, mushrooms) in his room and he didn’t see anything wrong with that (despite my house, my rules, zero drug policy). His father-in-law is finally out of the hospital. All this meant Jim hasn’t been working, so with big bills coming up (home insurance, car insurance), it will be fun figuring out which bills not to pay. 9/23 – Polliwog the Ette requested prayers for her mother-in-law, Peggy, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It seems to be contained, but fast-growing, and hopefully a lumpectomy will be sufficient. She is understandably nervous about the whole thing and would appreciate prayers.
10/23 Update – Peggy’s surgery went well, but further tests showed that her lymph nodes did have cancer as well, which means chemo and radiation are in her future. 9/24 – Eromero was having dinner with a 95 year-old buddy at the senior living facility, and had to bring his friend to the ER with pneumonia symptoms.
10/14 Update – Eromero’s friend passed away on 10/4. His widow is 93, deaf, and nearly blind, and Mrs. E. is her caregiver. They are planning a memorial, tying up loose ends, finding resources, etc. They will miss their friend, even though they know he’s better off than we are. Perspective. 9/30 – Duke Lowell posted that his mother-in-law, who lived with them for ten years, had passed away on Wednesday. He asked that God would welcome her into his kingdom and the He comfort Duke’s wife and her brother. 10/1 Coelacanth asked for continued prayers for Cam. In addition to the other medical (and other) issues that Cam and his family are experiencing, Cam just found out he has testicular cancer, at age 26. Surgery is anticipated for later in October. Prayers are gratefully appreciated. 10/1 - Morgan, long-time lurker, gives praise for the exercise of God’s providence. He had a job offer in Sarasota that was withdrawn this morning. Very disappointed, but God has other plans for me which he has not yet revealed. Praise be to God. 10/2 – SMH asked for prayers for his ex-ex’s dad, which has stage IV laryngeal cancer. He had a trach put in last week, and it will be permanent. The cancer is very aggressive, and it’s only got 50-50 odds if he agrees to the treatment plan (total laryngectomy and lymph node removal, plus radiation). 10/3 – Hadrian asked for prayers for his brother and sister-in-law, who are on sabbatical in Spain. They’ve both come down with Covid and are confined to a small, temporary apartment. Prayers appreciated for 1) their quick recovery and 2) they survive the time cooped up with each other. 10/7 – Halfhand asked for prayers for her dear friend and former neighbor, Kathleen, who has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer and is currently undergoing chemo. 10/7 – AnchorPoint asked for prayers related to a possible job change that terrifies him. It could be absolutely fantastic for him personally and professionally. He prays for God’s will, and not his, though. 10/10 – TP requested prayers for her co-worker, J. She has worked with him for many years, and was told today that they are firing J and his crew. Prayers for all of them are welcome, too. But J. is close to retirement age and it’s unlikely he’ll find a good job. Or, prayers that she is wrong and that he can bounce back from this. 10/12 – Hadrian the Seventh said he would appreciate prayers for his sister. An echocardiogram showed the calcification of her aortic valve is severe and she’ll need surgery to replace it. The operation is scheduled for 11/15. 10/14 – grammie winger would appreciate prayers for her son, who has been in the ICU for 10 days and it looks like it will be a couple more.
10/21 Update – He is doing better. He spent 11 days in ICU and is in residential treatment now. Grammie has high hopes. 10/14 – Jewells says thanks for the continued prayers. She is on a 6 week break from chemo, and is feeling so much better. The date for the next treatment is the day after she gets home from Texas. 10/14 – blaster posted an update on sra blaster’s mom, which is home hospice – she has had some improvement. They’ve dialed in her pain meds and she is much more comfortable without being knocked out completely. She is better in ways that a late-stage Alzheimer’s patient can be better. 10/14 – gourmand du jour is praying for his friend Wes, studying in Jerusalem, to find a way home safely soon. 10/16 – Donna&&&&&&V and her sister could use some prayers. Donna&&&&&&V had surgery for breast cancer, and her sister (whom she lives with) has lung cancer, and now also a blood cancer that cannot be treated. Over the past few days she has had unbearable pain in her calf and foot, and they found 3 blood clots. Donna&&&&&&V is afraid she will lose her sister and very best friend. 10/17 – mngiggle requested prayers for his sister, who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and starts treatment next week. She and her family could use all the prayers they can get. 10/18 – Fox2! asked for prayers for Shelby, who is due in three weeks. 10/20 – SB asked for prayers for his mother. She is in end-of-life care now. Prayers for his father are needed as well. 10/21 – Sugar Plum Fairy asked for prayers for her dad, Mindful Webworker, as he has been pretty sick for the last few days. Prayers for recovery to full health and strength, and wisdom for her mom to help him would be appreciated. 10/26 – Cybersmythe has been laid off for the third time in 15 months and asks for prayers and good wishes. 10/26 – Diogenes sent thanks for the prayers for his daughter. The surgery on a brain tumor went well and, while it’ll be a while before they know the final results, the docs were very optimistic. In times like these, there is a temptation to wonder why God allows evil to flourish. Some folks call this the Problem of Evil, but the answer is simple.
We have free will, and we consistently use it against the will of God. The Bible is largely a recitation of the many times and ways God has reached out to as would a loving father, urging us to do what it right, forgiving us for our errors, only to have us throw it back in His face.
When we experience adversity, we must see it as a call to repent, examine our own actions, and understand that this life is not all that there is. Are we truly preparing ourselves for the life to come?

Though it seems trivial, I think a lot of Buckeye and Spartan prayers are being answered with the scandal in Ann Arbor right now.
It should be noted that Jim Harbaugh is an alleged co-religionist, went to Rome and was even able to meet Pope Francies, where (I am not making this up) he gave him a pair of Jump Man sneakers and a winged football helmet. The look of confusion on the Holy Father's face said it all.
You'd think he might have taken some relics of Father Richard Gabriel, who founded his university and had them blessed, but no, always with the sports branding.

St. Jude Thaddeus (1st c.) was a blood relative of Jesus Christ and one of his Twelve Apostles. He was known for his preaching, healing, exorcisms, and his appearance was said to have closely matched that of Jesus’. He is the patron of impossible causes, desperate situations, and hospitals. He also wrote the book of the Bible that bears his name.
St. Simon the Zealot (1st c.) was also one of Jesus’ Twelve Apostles, but one of the most obscure. He earned his name for being zealous for the honor of Jesus, showing a holy indignation towards those who claimed Christ with their lips while dishonoring him with their manner of life. After the Ascension of Jesus, towards the end of his life, it is believed that St. Simon joined St. Jude to preach the Gospel in Persia, where they were both martyred in 65 A.D. St. Simon the Zealot and St. Jude Thaddeus share a feast day on October 28th.

Other than a (Catholic!) hospital being disturbingly eager for John (late, first) Husband to hurry up an die, the absolutely *horrific* coffee was the worst thing (for me) about his stay in ICU. I can usually make coffee drinkable by adding enough sugar and creamer, but that stuff was unfixable.

Yeah fifteen years ago this month. We have never gotten the local Sheriff to engage in the case or search the neighbor's property. This year a young man bought the property, heard the story of the Curious Disappearance from a neighbor and found the Curious Disappearance blog and contacted us, offering his help. Missus M found a guy from Tennessee who coordinates cadaver dog searches and they are sending five dog/handler pairs to do a search, Pro bono. One of the dogs in their group that is NOT coming is named Seamus, which would have been beautifully ironic.

I was on the verge of walking away after the inspection report. (I'm told this is a fairly normal response.) My realtor and the inspector talked me off the ledge and we are moving forward with additional inspections/estimates and a repair request. By Monday the path forward (or not) should be clearer, but my understanding at this moment is that the problems are not catastrophic or urgent.
So I may be shopping for front porch rocking chairs soon. There will always be a chair for any Hordian who finds him- or herself (no xirs plz) in upstate SC.
Aside from that, still grinning from Texas...

Thanks to the horde for all the prayers for my dad, Mindful Webworker. He had an emergency surgery a week ago Friday and is recovering well. They are not sure still what happened, more tests needed but so far his prognosis is good and he is in good spirits and recovering well. Many thanks from the whole Mindful family for the prayers and a special thanks to Muldoon for the limerick which brought laughter to some dark days.
Continued prayers for total recovery are appreciated while we give thanks and glory to God for the doctors saving my dad's life.

The relics of St. Jude passed through Michigan two weeks ago. Our parish hosted them and we were able to touch the reliquary. It was a profound experience for me and I cannot describe the sensation I felt when my hand touched the glass. My younger daughter said she felt something like euphoria. Everyone in the family felt something in their own way.

It was from concentrate that they added hot water to when you made your selection from the machine. It was thin, extremely acidic, and bitter. I was hoping it was just a one day thing, but no such luck. I've had machine coffee that *wasn't* awful, so I assumed it was just there. As the conflict in Gaza escalates I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arrow-2/Arrow-3 anti-ballistic missile air defences in Israel engage targets, likely from Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen. They have the new Toufan (Iranian Ghadr) medium-range ballistic missile with ~1950km range.
The Houthis may calculate that their distance relative to Israel would limit counter attacks. This is likely what is already partly behind their decision to launch land-attack cruise missiles and drones at southern Israel while acknowledging the Israelis may strike back at Sana’a
The Israelis would be likely to conduct strikes in Yemen in the event of a ballistic missile attack. They can use jet fighters armed with cruise missiles with heavy tanker support or use Dolphin/Dolphin II-class submarines with submarine-launched cruise missiles.

There is an assumption among Americans that Israelis are natural allies of Christians while Muslims are enemies. It's not that simple. The 'Arab' Christians in the region are descended from the first converts, and there is a strong antipathy between them and the Jews who not only rejected Christ, but returned to a kingdom claiming a covenant that had long since been fulfilled and then voided.
We see Israelis as modern, freedom-loving people in the Abrahamic tradition, but the Arab Christians see them as still denying Christ and once more trying to re-established a fallen kingdom. Oh, and wrecking their world.
The US interventions in the Middle East have been an abject disaster for Christians there.

In a briefing for reporters of international media outlets, IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says Hamas's main base of operations is under Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. He says the information on Hamas's use of the hospital is based on a wide range of intelligence sources collected by the Military Intelligence Directorate and Shin Bet security agency, and that the intel has been provided to various allies.
Hagari says that Hamas has several underground complexes under Shifa which are used by the terror group's leaders to direct attacks against Israel.
He says Israel has intelligence that there are several tunnels leading to the underground base from outside the hospital, so that Hamas officials do not need to enter the hospital to reach it. And that that there is also an entrance to the underground complex from within one of the wards.

I am unable to say whether he got married and had children because that was a socially acceptable thing to do and he really have preferred to be with me or was truly bisexual. When we were in Paris last year at the famous person graveyard,
we saw that they had to put up a plastic shield around Wilde's crypt because so many of teh gheys were defacing it with their tributes and flowers and horrible poetry(you could read some of it if close enough.

For my wife especially there is a sense of validation that Jack's death was not unmarked, regardless of the search results. Just in the doing it.
