James Bond Producer: We're Going to "Modernize" James Bond Again for Today's "Evolving Male"

So a tranny then?

James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli recently confirmed that future James Bond films will reinvent the character and stories for the modern world.

...

The Guardian's Tara Conlan added, "She added that the next film would have to reflect the way the world has changed in the two decades since Craig was confirmed as the sixth 007 and pointed out that Bond has often been reinvented."

In the last 20 years, men have become more effeminate and gay.

Craig was already intended to be a "more evolved" Bond, as was Brosnan before him.

What is left to evolve? How feminine do you want to make this traditionally masculine character?

Broccoli went on to justify why she believes the character needs to be reinvented for the modern era pointing to Pierce Brosnan's GoldenEye film as well as the recently concluded Daniel Craig era.

As for GoldenEye, she said, "I go back to GoldenEye when everyone was saying 'the cold war is over, the wall is over, Bond is dead, no need for Bond, the whole world's at peace and now there's no villains' -- and boy was that wrong!"

Oh right, and you sure did have Bond fighting terrorists a lot after 9/11.

Oh wait, no you didn't. Closest you came was featuring a shady banker/investor for terrorists in Casino Royale.

Then you went back to your mainstay, fighting Evil Rich White Men.

Conlan also added that Broccoli informed her "that modernisation is necessary whenever a new actor plays the part."

Is it?

You know, sometimes series take a "back to the basics" approach, too. And that usually works out well for them.

Conlan also added that Broccoli informed her "that modernisation is necessary whenever a new actor plays the part."

To that point she discussed Craig's era of James Bond noting she and other Bond producers "wanted to focus on what a 21st-century hero would look like."

And what creativity they showed! A 21st-century hero turned out to look an awful lot like Jason Bourne with a dash of Nolan's Batman, only more emotionally vulnerable.

"Daniel gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character ... and also the world was ready for it," Broccoli said.

No, it wasn't. We tolerated his weepiness and longing to admit he's gay. We did not like that.

She informed the outlet, "It's an evolution. Bond is evolving just as men are evolving. I don't know who's evolving at a faster pace."

Definitely do try to outrun modern men in becoming more feminine.

She had also already posited the idea that Craig's Bond figured out the emotional arc of Bond saying, "The films over his tenure were the first time we really connected the emotional arc."

And again, no one liked this, except you and Daniel Craig. The character has always been static in the books and all movies until this one, with the limited exception of the emotional hardening he experiences in the very first book ("The bitch is dead.").

Even though OHMSS ended with Bond crying, he was back to being Bond in the next entry. (In the next book, YOLT, Bond is depressed and disinterested in his work, but when he sniffs out a chance to get vengeance on Blofeld, Bond is Back.)

The most recent James Bond film, No Time to Die, grossed $759.9 million globally, which was good for fourth on the top grossing films of 2021 behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, Chang jin hu, and Ni Hao, Li Huan Ying. The movie had a reported production budget between $250 million and $300 million. However, it also racked up costs due to the fact it was delayed over a year.

One report from Variety claimed the film needed to make $900 million to break even and that the movie lost around $100 million.

The first and only Bond movie I have not seen since I caught the Bond bug when I was 10. I was turned off by all the woke commercials and Stronk Empowered Wimmens. And by Daniel Craig telling us he'd really like to see a Gay Bond.

Glad it lost money. Though it lost money mostly due to Hollywood's lunatic overspending and the ages it spent on the shelf, paying interest to creditors, due to covid.

But the wokeness did not help.

And for those who doubt that when they say they want Bond to "evolve" like modern men are evolving: Here's an excerpt from the last official Bond-continuation novel.

Kearse's excerpt sees Bond observing a number of guests who have also been invited to Athelstan's castle. It specifically describes a man named Roger Birkett, "Birkett was an ex-Tory MP, famous for promoting covid/vaccines/mask-wearing/5G conspiracy theories, which had spilled over into the usual anti-immigrant, anti-EU, anti-BBC, anti-MSM, anti-cultural Marxist, Climate Change Denial pronouncements. It was an anti-trans diatribe that had eventually got him kicked out of the party and he'd soon after set up the 'New Freedom Party'."

It continues, "Bond was struck by something. It was a long while since he'd been at any kind of function that was almost exclusively full of men. It felt strange. There was not even a pretence at diversity here. Athelstan hadn't been the least bit concerned about ensuring that half of the people he'd hired to carry out his coup should be women, or non-white, or disabled. This was an unapologetically old-school gathering. In Athelstan's world he was king and could do whatever he wanted."

bondnovelexcerpt.jpg

Now, in fairness, I think that EON, which owns the film rights, does not own any of the publishing rights. But I bet you they talk! They each depend on the other to protect and extend the value of the Bond franchise.

Boy I sure hope that 4chan doesn't start an op to pressure EON to make Bond an evolved Transgender Man. I sure hope no one puts EON in the difficult position of having to make Bond gay or trans or anger the Alphabet Squad.

20 I think the first novel in the series, 'Casino Royale', was the best Bond book Fleming wrote. I also think there was growth in the character in that he allowed himself to love Vesper Lynd, even though he felt betrayed by her--wrongfully, given the circumstances, but his hurt felt real. Throughout most of the book, you doubted he could be hurt emotionally, then he was. "The bitch is dead", sure, but she was also the love of his life. Before her, women had been solely recreation (Fleming's word).

22 Then you went back to your mainstay, fighting Evil Rich White Men.

Pierce Brosnan, I thought, was a great Bond, and the villains in his movies seemed appropriate. Only being partially snarky when I say "Tomorrow Never Dies" was excellent, and showed how huge, multinational media conglomerates are unaccountable, evil, and ridiculously powerful. Seems like a pretty based villain to my conservative eyes.

And governments look pretty corrupt and untrustworthy in the Brosnan films, too, as I recall.

Craig, however, sucks as Bond. I'm not a lady, but I can't imagine any woman thinks he looks sexier than Brosnan, let alone all the woke, beta, soy action and plot lines in his films.

84 Possibly Controversial around here: James Bond doesn't work in the 21th century. He's a relic of the cold war era.

Actually a relic of WWII. But so what? They can shift his story forward (I think in the books he is an Afgan war vet), but maintain the storytelling.

Bond; Gun. Tenacity. Luck.

By the way, in "Goldfinger" the book, Bond converts a stone lesbian (possibly a black one, that's unclear) to heterosexuality by giving her a good banging.

94 Ace, glad to know you became a Bond fan as a boy, as I did. My mother bought all the Signet paperbacks. One night when I was about nine, she handed me Doctor No, open to the centipede scene, and said, "Read this."

I did and was hooked. When I tried to read on, she snatched it back from me with some comment about "When you're older." So I sneaked the paperbacks and read the action scenes. The long one in Doctor No is an utter classic.

As an older teen I came back and read the books in their entirety, and got new things out of them.

The sequel was better and more entertaining. It wasn't that nostalgic for me, because I didn't really get the hype of the first one.

182 Thinking of the most recent Disney drek with female girl boss leads, we go one of two ways:

The Rey Palpatine route, where the character is a flawless Mary Sue that is already powerful, perfect, everyone likes her, and she doesn't need to develop, people just need to recognize her awesomeness and get out of the way, or

The new female replacing Indiana Jones....Helena Shaw or something? It's the inverse of the scene in "As Good as it Gets":
Receptionist: How do you write women so well?
Melvin Udall: I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.

Here, modern women write a man they'd be attracted to: powerful, rich, handsome, popular, plenty of ladies...then they give him a vagina.

Read the character bio. Ramírez is just the family name he takes when passing himself off in Spain.

Before this he lived in Japan, and before than Egypt where he was born thousands of years before (at least in the movie).

The Longest Day came out in 1960. Probably one of Connery's first roles. The Bridge Too Far was in the late 70s and Connery was pretty well iconic by then.

434 BREAKING NOW: my sources tell me several Jewish students @cooperunion are currently locked in the school library as a pro Hamas rally outside of the cooper Union building learnt the Jews were afraid and sitting in the library, then brought the protest inside and are barricading all exits. Police have been called for 40 min and are afraid to get involved. Security locked the students in as they are worried they cannot protect the Jews rn ['right now', I assume]

They are going to unbox and start playing a game that they really haven't thought out. And then they are going to be crying when everyone else starts playing the game.

435 It will be the end of Bond

436 I can fix the Bond franchise!

Frankenpussy, starring Laverne Cox as Jane Bond.

It’ll be fantastic!

437 Looking forward to Jane Bulge’s new caper “Thunderballs.”

438 “Barbara Broccoli”

Anyone else hearing Dana Carvey echo through their skull?

439 It took me ages to accept Roger Moore as Bond. I never watched any Bond movies after him.

441 They actually used the word diversity? That's just sad.

Bond is over.

442 The thing I don't understand is why the producers don't expand the Bond universe, and tell the stories of other double-0 agents. Fell free to tell the stories of all these gay, trans agents of color, there's plenty of other numbers. See how they do, and leave Bond alone.

443 "Bond is over."

All things must pass. But we'll always have Sean Connery - though I strongly suggest getting the DVDs before they're tossed down the memory hole.

444 My first test for anyone playing Bond is whether or not they can project the license to kill. Are they sufficiently predatory that they could kill at any time necessary? In some ways, Craig was a more thuggish Bond and better at portraying a killer in their majesty’s service than most.

446 Dear Whoever Owns the Bond Franchise;
You are a Hog farmer; you are in the Pork business; Hams, Bacon, Ribs, Pickled Pigs Feet and Hocks.
This is what has made your predecessors richer than Midas, cranking out year after year of good tasty bacon and lard.
You are not painting the Sistine Chapel, you aren't going to be enriched by "reimagining" the Mona Lisa.
Just find another Craig, Connery, Moore or Brosnan, make another flick like your daddy did and find a bank large enough to hold the cash.

447 >sometimes series take a "back to the basics" approach, too. And that usually works out well for them.

Since the black and white beginning of Casino Royale I've thought the best thing the Bond series could do is go back to the Cold War and do hard-as-nails assassination spy drama. Bond is absolutely a relic of a different time. That's a strength. Run with it. It's working for the Yellowstone franchise.
