Jim Jordan Loses Vote to Become Speaker

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) failed to win the Speakership in the first round of voting on Tuesday after 20 Republicans withheld support from his bid, denying him the votes needed to secure the gavel.
The vote was 200 for Jordan, 212 for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), six for former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and seven for House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.).
The House is now expected to head to a second ballot, setting the stage for another protracted race to win the gavel. In January, it took McCarthy 15 ballots over the course of four days to be elected to the top spot.
Tuesday marked exactly two weeks since eight Republicans joined with Democrats in ousting McCarthy from the Speakership, a historic vote that plunged the House into uncharted territory and brought legislative business in the chamber to a screeching halt.
Jordan faced an uphill climb heading into Tuesday's floor vote after at least six Republicans came out against his bid Monday night, and others remained mum on their positions.

The real source of leadership's power is the power over re-election money. Create an alternate structure of money away from the, and leadership loses power.

None of these people, including Paul, spreads the money around in any material way. An individual race here or there, but ultimately it's about supporting the one at its center.

It's not some grand mystery and unassailable position that leadership sits in power. It's extremely obvious from the outside. And yet, no one really fights it on that level in any way beyond watching their own backs.

Yep. He'd already gotten their vote after meeting with Biden and stripping the items conservatives wanted from the bills. One that comes to mind is the ability for states to sue to protect power generation. McCarthy agreed to make that much more difficult if not borderline impossible.

406 s McConnell knew, you don't want a majority b/c then to keep power, you need almost all the base, not just the Uniparty. I'm certain Kevin was trying to lose the House outright in 2022, and instead stuck himself in the worst spot possible - with a razor thin majority, so he needed almost all the votes. Screw him and all his Uniparty backers...they outed their own Uniparty, and now Dems won't save them b/c it would be so utterly obvious...

He HAD to go. And he offed himself with his own duplicity.
Regardless, don't think the 'R's' cannot hold the House majority in November 2024.
Kevin did, ala Paul Ryan , the best possible job he could do to destroy ANY enthusiasm in the MAGA base to buy anymore of what he was selling.
So imo the House goes full blast Communist in November 24

408 The ONE thing that leaves me wondering if the Hospital was an errant/mis-targeted Israeli strike is that as of yet they have not released drone or other video showing the explosion.
No WAY they intentionally targeted it, but...I can see someone missing a keystroke and a bomb going astray. I can also see them targeting another site and secondary explosions flowing through a tunnel into a building not targeted.
I can much more readily see a Hamas/Islamic Jihad launch going astray or blowing up during launch. Or a hamas facility having an accident, while building, arming or moving weapons, and blowing up
