I wasn't sure I'd like it at the beginning, but it's definitely grown on me. Though, we're in the 7th season now, and I feel like it should have cut off at the 6th. Maybe they wanted to do like Conan Doyle did and bring Sherlock back from a seemingly tragic ending.

I've pretty much given up on modern episodic television and entertainment in general.
I have 1000 movies and 50 or so complete seasons of various television shows from 50s to the late 90's. Very little came out after around 2005 and by 2010 everything went over a cliff. The best thing that came out in the last decade was Chernobyl, and that came out 4 years ago. Posted by: Thomas Bender at October 11, 2023 04:57 PM (XV/Pl) 26

Every night we watch tv together, the 3 of us. As you can expect, it's tough to find something we mutually enjoy. My solution has been re runs of Newhart and Frasier. We watch one episode each, then retire to our respective corners to satisfy our individual choices. We all 3 laugh so much. Frasier is returning with a new season soon, and I expect woke garbage, but would be happy if it wasn't.

If you guys like that, let me half-recommend the Steve Coogan-fronted "Dr. Terrible's House of Horrible." Six episode series of parodies of 60s and 70s British horror movies. The first one is a parody of "The Vampire Lovers," a hammer studios super-horny lesbian vampire movie. The episode is called "Lesbian Vampire Lovers of Lust." It's a real hoot. The female vampire is so overt in her double-entendres they're not even double-entendres. However, most of the rest of the series is eh and forgettable. There's a Fu Manchu parody that's good, and then four more of very marginal quality. The whole series is cheap -- I think it's like $5 on Amazon -- but there are really only two strong episodes out of the six. Posted by: ace at October 11, 2023 05:22 PM (KRtlO) 107

Bubba Ho-Tep may feel random, especially at first, but it isn't. Things tie together nicely by the end.
However, the backstory is that Joe R. Lansdale (a writer) was having trouble getting any Hollywood attention and, on a laugh for an Elvis retrospective, decided to write a completely unfilmable story. There were three "best feature" winners. I'll do an in-depth review of "Publish or Perish" next time I'm up, because it's one of the best movies I've seen all year. It wasn't just "good for a low-budget" film--it was just good. Black comedy about a professor trying to get tenure. There was also "Cannibal Comedian" which is kind of a cross between "Motel Hell" and "The Dark Backward". Odd movie about a guy in the desert who makes people into meatball subs but who really wants to be a stand-up comedian. Mostly anti-comedy, not as funny as I wanted it to be. And "Mutilator 2". I guess if you liked the first one...yeah. Posted by: moviegique at October 11, 2023 05:29 PM (asXVI) 129

I just finished binge-watching "Grimm" on Amazon Prime. A male Portland police detective suddenly has the ability to see supernatural creatures and must fight them in the line of duty. Think "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" only with slightly more adult characters. I enjoyed it. The villains were villainous, there were story arcs on top of monster of the week plots, and it was surprisingly positive towards family and commitment. Plus it gave a last fond look at Portland before it collapsed into the Blue hellhole it is now.

I started watching movies and videos while high on Delta 8.
All I can say is the experience is way better. There is a point where I can really start noticing the actor's makeup. I was watching a Harry Potter movie and there was scene with Dumbledore and noticed the make up artist missed the top 1" from the actor's hairline. Most of the time you can really tell when the rouge is overdone (or maybe overdone on purpose). I was watching The Big Sleep with Bogey and Bacall. There is a scene near the end where they are talking to each other while smoking cigarettes. When Bacall is talking the smoke makes a line from her mouth directly to Bogey. Then Bogey starts talking and the smoke makes a direct line to Bacall. Almost as if their spirits were going from one to the other. Either it was a complete accident or the director should've gotten an Oscar just for that. Posted by: MAGA_Ken at October 11, 2023 05:54 PM (cMXNt) 224

Posted by: CaliGirl at October 11, 2023 05:58 PM (UYUKJ) ----------------------- Delta 9 is the molecule that is THC, the psychactive compound in marijuana. Delta 8 is a hemp derivated THC from the CBD refining process. The molecules are just slightly different. I take the Delta 8 as an edible gummy. I become very mellow and there is a slight psychedelic effect. For instance, when watching a movie sometimes the images become very 3D, other times the actor's image becomes very flat but stands out from the background. The high takes about 60 to 90 minutes to kick in and last for 6 to 8 hours. A much, much better experience than alcohol. Posted by: MAGA_Ken at October 11, 2023 06:10 PM (cMXNt) 261

I tweeted that foreign media had been told women and children had been decapitated but we had not been shown bodies - which was my response to reports which had gone viral about the 40 babies. I realised the way my tweet was written was too short to explain the full context, so deleted it. My headline of my story references that toddlers were killed. https://tinyurl.com/nhwah35m My boldface; so she knows babies were killed just not whether some/many/most/all were literally beheaded. @RNCResearch "Should your colleague Rashida Tlaib still have the Palestinian flag outside her office?" Democrat Rep. Steny Hoyer: "I fly a Danish flag at my house" - More stunning and brave. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Now With Pumpkin Spice! at October 11, 2023 06:16 PM (FVME7) 265
In the late '90s, a British comedy writer (can't remember who) listed what he felt were the 3 best-written sitcoms ever:
- Fawlty Towers - The Young Ones - Cheers It's 20+ years later and I think it still holds. Nothing made since then could replace these three. Maybe Peep Show. Posted by: J. Frank Parnell at October 11, 2023 06:18 PM (lqvOK) 266
sounds weird, maybe i'll try it.

You know, I can't think of another movie that should have a sequel than "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins". I mean it's not like they started at number 4 or anything.

Yes, Minister is fantastic, and Yes, Prime Minister is amazing. The episode where the PM discusses nuclear deterrents is a tour-de-force, and the bit on who reads the UK press is funny on a legendary level. One other Brit offering that is worth checking out is She-Wolf of London -originally caught it when I was living in the UK, and I still regard it as an unappreciated gem.

If you like the young ones, you might like Bottom (Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson living in a flat together). Crude but funny. There are lots of samples, possibly episodes and maybe a live show on YT.
One of the best long running series in the UK, often hailed as the funniest show ever in all the usual polls is "Only Fools and Horses" . Two brothers living in a flat in Peckham, wheeling and dealing. First season might be a bit ropey but worth sticking with. Definitely a fave with Gen X and older. If you are after some detective shows, there is Midsomer Murders and Morse, two classics from pre-woke times. Posted by: PoliticalMcguffin at October 11, 2023 06:37 PM (1xOC5) 271
Oh and "Not the nine O'Clock news" - bit lefty on the political issues, but funny nontheless, includes Rowan Atkinson among others in a sketch show.
As for movies, another you might like is 'Still Crazy' - about a 70s rock band getting back together for "one more gig". Stars Bill Nighy and features every Rock n' Roll cliche there is, but some great music. Posted by: PoliticalMcguffin at October 11, 2023 07:06 PM (1xOC5) 272
it seems Clear, that MOST of the problems In The World, come from people Not watching Danger 5.
It seems to be The Most Hyper-Realist show, in the history of Earth. If Hamas would watch Danger 5, instead of Raping and Killing and Kidnapping; the World would be a better place! Posted by: gilbar at October 11, 2023 07:38 PM (FO7us) Posted by: MarkW at October 11, 2023 08:44 PM (jb7yU) 274
One show I know of that didn't get much play when it came around
It's on Tubi and it's one of those old BBC comedies that lasted only one season (6 episodes) It's called 'Whites' about a kitchen staff at some up island British resort.. (whites being the kitchen uniforms and nothing current day BS about it) Posted by: Blanco at October 11, 2023 09:17 PM (MHpW9) 275
Late as per usual, but my excuse is that I was finishing an episode of Jeeves and Wooster.
Is Yes, Minister better than Yes, Prime Minister? Posted by: .87c at October 11, 2023 10:27 PM (XRYNV) 276
No. You're out of your mind. It's completely unwatchable...like an Americanized Young Ones fever dream. Stick to flaming skulls.
