Good morning, kids. Good for Matt Gaetz. He did the absolute right thing in kicking the low-rent poor-man's bargain-basement version of John Boehner, Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor out of the Speakership. Will it make a damn bit of difference to the nation? Probably not, at least in the short term, if at all. Whether it's the majority of the GOP politicians and punditry alike freaking out or the Democrats gloating on that party's disunity, it's all kabuki-bukkake theater anyway. Gaetz's sin is merely exposing it.

Fool's errand? Pissing in the wind? Last stand at Corregidor? You'll have to decide that. But America is no more. It's a banana republic in all but name only and the lying bastards who pretend to be on our side and fight for the Constitution are only there to fight for their seats at the trough; as the remora to the megalodon that is the Democrat Party and it's deep state operatives in the Leviathan.

Here's a prime example of sheer cluelessness that so many display. I give you Stephen Kruiser from the rapidly-decaying PJ Media:

I’ve seen a lot of internecine squabbles in the Republican party in my decades of activism, but that mess yesterday was really something different. The unceremonious end to Kevin McCarthy’s brief tenure as Speaker of the House offered almost nothing to like, unless you’re a fan of drama for drama’s sake.
It should be noted up front that I like everything about what the Freedom Caucus stands for. The members of it are singing my song. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that all they’re ever capable of doing is singing louder. At some point it becomes shrieking rather than singing, distorted well past the point of when the original meaning of the song can be conveyed.
I also don’t think that there are any good guys in this family feud.
McCarthy failed to learn Rule #1: Don’t trust the Democrats. He knew that if he brokered a deal for a temporary funding bill that Matt Gaetz would come after him. McCarthy apparently thought that some of his new Democrat friends from the stopgap resolution would vote to table Gaetz’s motion to vacate.
Oops.
The timing here was unfortunate. Gaetz is an ego-driven blunt object and it’s impossible to figure out if he thought beyond getting this wish of his. Only a Republican could come up with the idea to team with Democrats to punish a Republican for teaming with Democrats. . .
. . . Once more, I am on board with most of what the Freedom Caucus wants. I don’t see how they’re going to get it because of what happened yesterday. There are a lot of people who think some good will come of it. They can’t explain how, but they’re sure of it. I’d wager that most of them are relatively new to conservative politics. Here was something I tweeted yesterday after McCarthy was given the boot:

Look, I like what the Freedom Caucus stands for, but at some point, it needs to learn to be more than just the Tantrum Caucus.
I stand by that. Let’s win some spending wars. Let’s also realize that, as Schlichter points out in his latest VIP at Townhall, the party with the four-seat majority can’t govern like it has a 60-seat majority.
Just think things through, is that too much to ask? Yeah, probably.

Think things through? How about you pull your head out of your ass and take a good look around at what the hell is happening to this nation, the epicenter of which is D.C. Why the fuck do you think there is a Freedom Caucus in the first place, Kruiser? It's because the GOP since the damned Eisenhower administration has done essentially nothing to halt let alone reverse the initial creep towards dissolution of the republic which is now going at or near warp speed, pun intended.

The only thing that Gaetz perhaps can be faulted for is thinking that replacing McCarthy with an actual opposition leader will achieve anything. That is if the GOP allows that to happen. Forget the speaker; you'll have to purge the majority of the party first. And even then, the entire system is so corrupt that even that is mere Titanic deck chair rearranging.

When Democrats are in the majority, they get their way. And when Republicans are in the majority, the Democrats also get their way. Most recently, after the stopgap spending bill was passed, Rep Jamie Raskin took to MSNBC to boast that the Democrats “got the vast majority of what we wanted” from it. And for some Republicans that was the last straw.
Eight House Republicans allied with Democrats on a vote to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy. And for the first time in over a century, a House Speaker was successfully booted from office.
A civil war among Republicans came down to threats from both sides of collaborating with Democrats in a House of Representatives with a narrow majority. And collaborating with Democrats seems to be the only thing that House Republicans know how to do anymore.
What are the legislative achievements of a House GOP majority, today, yesterday and the day before? They invariably involve collaborating with Democrats for personal political gain.
It’s been over a generation since a House Republican majority delivered for conservatives. Congressional Republicans are too terrified to fight Democrats and instead go after safe targets like each other. It’s not even worth counting how many times a Democrat White House made a House Republican majority cower in fear over the threat of being blamed for a government shutdown. Or how often that same majority compensated for surrendering to Democrats with meaningless virtue signaling votes that everyone knew were never going to pass the Senate. . .
. . . House Republican majorities do very little because they want to avoid taking responsibility for anything. When there is a Republican Senate majority or a Republican White House, they defer to them. And when there isn’t, they defer to the Democrats. The pattern is that the House Republican leadership wants someone else to take on their responsibilities.
Congress increasingly doesn’t legislate, it rubber stamps, and the House GOP leadership has been among the worst offenders. But the situation isn’t likely to improve under any speaker. The GOP leadership has concentrated legislative power in the hands of small men like Rep. Kevin McCarthy and Rep. Paul Ryan who haven’t the faintest idea of what to do with it except to prevent things from being done that might upset the status quo too much. Weak speakers are fall guys whose only job is to last long enough to deliver some stability for special interests. . .
. . . Under Democrats, the speakership was a powerful position, while under Republicans it’s become a thankless job offering power without purpose in a deeply divided party.
And that is the real crisis.
What is the purpose of a GOP House majority? What is it there to accomplish? When all the hysterical fundraising emails, texts and carrier pigeons have been sent, what does it do?
Republicans campaign like insurgents, but they govern like placeholders. All the insurgent energy is completely lacking once the business of cutting 30 second ads gives way to the dry tasks of scheduling the votes that the leadership wants on the money that it wants to give away. . .
. . . A party like that requires strong leaders who know what is at stake: not hollow men and grifters.
The House GOP doesn’t have a speaker because it doesn’t have a mission. And without a mission, it’s only a matter of time until every session falls apart into self-serving drama. Either the House GOP will find its mission or it will continue to waste time that America doesn’t have.
Either Republicans will find their mission or they will lose.

Daniel Greenfield gets it a hell of a lot more than Stephen Kruiser, but in reading the whole essay you get the sense that he too seems to think that we can fight back by traditional means and regular order when that no longer exists.

Case in point, supposedly the junta is scrambling to reassure Zelensky that the funding for the forever war in Ukraine will still be forthcoming, despite the shenanigans in the House. Assuming the growing wave of even a disunited GOP to unite or at least present a clear majority against said funding prevails. Does anyone think that Biden's puppet masters aren't going to flip Congress the bird, and just direct the Treasury to ship pallets of cash to Kiev without even giving it a second thought?

Don't fool yourselves. They're getting that cash and probably boots on the ground, or more boots on the ground because I have a sneaking and horrifying suspicion that Ukraine right now is MACV 1964 all over again.

Speaking of the military as well as the complete corruption of and by the bureaucracy of which it belongs, dig this flashback to only a few short years ago:

During the Trump presidency, Pentagon officials refused to follow orders, substituting their own policies over the constitutionally ordained authority of their Commander in Chief. We know that officials lied about troop strength in Syria, attempted to undermine and kill the peace initiative with the Taliban in Afghanistan, and refused to call out the military to quell civil unrest during the George Floyd riots. This is gross insubordination. . .
. . . The Pentagon’s active obstruction of Trump’s policies and orders amounted to a treasonous coup. There is no value in an American military that will not do what its members have sworn an oath to do and what they are paid to do: To follow the orders of the elected commander-in-chief and protect American lives.

That's just the military, which in and of itself is shocking and bad enough. Now substitute any and every agency, department, bureau and office in D.C. from cabinet member secretaries all the way down to the janitors and toilet attendants. This is the government. This is who calls the shots. The president and Congress are essentially powerless to control it. The latter does not want the actual responsibility of crafting laws since, in theory, whatever they do might piss off an electorate that will vote them out of office for doing their jobs. I say in theory since the integrity of elections is now highly doubtful in the wake of 2020 and 2022. As for the former, a president can wield power only if he's a Democrat-Leftist or a GOP – a Go-along Obsequious Placeholder should he accidentally "win" an election here or there.

So Matt Gaetz is an asshole. Matt Gaetz is a traitor. Matt Gaetz is an egomaniac. Matt Gaetz screwed up the slim majority, and on and on and on.

No GOP. YOU bastards did that. And you've been doing it since forever. You can bitch and moan all day long about Democrats but it's not what they did but what you collectively did not do that got us Trump, and now Gaetz. Will the latter lead to anything substantive? Doubtful, yet it is a moral victory.

But I am sick to fucking death of moral victories.

The fundamental problem is that our budget/appropriations/spending process is hopelessly broken. When was the last time we actually passed a budget and then appropriations bills for each department?

The amount of money sloshing around without direction and without oversight is astounding. How long can this go on?

I know the Democrats don't care. They think all money belongs to the government and if there's not enough then more will be extorted from the subjects; thus the 87,000 new IRS agents.

You'd like to think that the Republicans would care. But they either don't or are too scared or too lazy to perform the central purpose of their branch of government.

The result - however - will be the weakening of the GOP's political capital. There was a poll that indicated that voters trusted the GOP on all of the important issues just this week. Now? Where I disagree, I suppose, is that the GOP represents a "vestige of hope" either now or on some distant horizon. It is not. The GOP, at it's very very best, acts as a barely perceptible retarder on Democrat ambition. Most of the time, the GOP is right there with the Dems mashing down on the accelerator.

With GOP control, the next big step toward total tyranny might take 18-36 months longer than it would without that GOP control. That's about it.

The GOP, like everyone else in American government, does not want normal budget order. It's too dangerous. It especially does not want a budget process with multiple bills.

The budget (or its phony-baloney analogue through the CR process) is where tremendous quantities of political power are tied up within both the House and the Senate. It is how men like McConnell and Schumer retain their power and it is the cudgel used to enforce the status quo within both chambers. It is too important, and the amount of deal-making, political pressure, etc. associated with omnibus spending bills is too great.

Returning to normal order is a problem, but moving to multiple non-omnibus spending bills blows up established internal power systems within both parties and chambers. Absolutely *nobody* with serious amounts of control within the Parties wants that to happen.

Contractors having access is not itself a problem. I used to be one of those guys. A lot of government systems - and not just in the IRS - are designed, built, operated or maintained by businesses. The employees of those businesses often need some amount of access to the systems. Those people end up with contractor access, because they are not IRS employees. Ditto various other contractors - like people who might work in a call center or whatever.

Contractors having access to tax data is not a problem on its own. Nor, for that matter, is contractors having access to intelligence information. "Contractor" can mean a lot of things.

But innocent explanations aside (and there are a ton of them), there are also of the obvious non-innocent explanations for the presence of ersatz "contractors" ...

Dissolution and fragmentation are continuing apace. That obviously isn't total protection from a terrorist government, but it is a good start and offers some peace of mind. People who are well fed and warm do not revolt. Once that changes, and that is coming straight at us, those fragmented areas will segment off. People really need to move from at least a handful of places ASAP before the SHTF in even bigger ways.

There were three big elements to it:
1. A return to normal budget order and no more omnibus spending bills. We will have budgets, not CRs, and those budgets will be in multiple pieces.
2. Committee assignments will include non-GOPe members
3. Rule changes to make McCarthy personally accountable if he fails to deliver (it becomes easier for intra-party opposition to remove the Speaker)

McCarthy failed to deliver on the key objective, which was the budget, and the third condition - the one he had to agree to as a part of the vote that made him Speaker - came into effect the moment that the intra-party opposition decided it should.

Bullshit. All the votes in the separate budget bills were either already made or being scheduled. They ran out of time because of scheduling. Nobody thought it would take this amount of time and Democrats were gumming up the process. That's why a short term CR was needed and most of the Freedom Caucus agreed. So did McCarthy and that's why he brought their CR to the floor. And the Clown Car 8 voted against that CR. That's how we ended up with the 45 shit CR. They've got three more bills and amendments to vote on before that CR expires. But now since these shitbags decided to back Gaetz in his personal vendetta we probably won't make that date. Which means another shit sandwich for the party. O can't even put into words how foolish and selfish this whole thing is. This is the garbage that loses elections and I hope whoever takes over runs the caucus like Attila the Hun.

So the Democrats "gummed up the works?" They "ran out of time?" They mismanaged the schedule? McCarthy's *job* was to predict and manage those conditions. Barring the ability to overcome those conditions, his job was to let the sucker shut down until he got what he demanded - and what he promised to his caucus in exchange for his job.

McCarthy failed. He failed either because he did not want to succeed and was comfortable in the assumption that, like always, there would be no accountability or he failed because he was incompetent or he failed because he lacks courage. I am not worried about the BRICS per se. I am worried about the failure of the USD as the default international settlement currency. I do think that the Dollar as "reserve currency" is on its way out. It is not on its way out because of the BRICS, but because of our actions against Russia and our out-of-control spending and associated monetary games. And when it goes, so does our ability to play "hide the inflation" by sequestering it in foreign trade flows.

While I don't disagree that Democrats move in a collective I think that has less to do with Nancy than it does to the state of mind of the current Democrat party. They almost never break ranks anywhere, not just the House. And it's largely because they are in the business of tearing down not building. A lot easier to be unified when you are only concerned with destruction.

We are just now starting to see a little disunity starting with Democrat mayors and governors because chickens and roosting over illegals but that only happens when a plan blows up on them and they are forced to state the obvious. Other than that they remain extremely unified from dog catcher to POTUS. Like good communists.

Kevin McCarthy worked to limit GOP gains in 2022. He actively worked to undermine GOP candidates for House seats, limiting his majority, making it even easier for someone like Gaetz to do what he did.

A larger majority with more people reliant on McCarthy for re-election money makes McCarthy more secure, not less. But McCarthy didn't do that because he's a master tactician and we all just don't understand, or something.

The world that is coming probably won't have a reserve currency as we know it today. Talk to folks who have traded with China in Yuan and see how that is working out.

SO the dollar will be the reserve currency to the extent we have one well beyond the time we are gone. But we do need to realize our credit card is running out of limit as the whole notion of global finance changes. Both Trump and Biden were a bit reckless - Biden more so than Trump. I disagree. We unilaterally ejected Russia from SWIFT, cutting them off from settlements. We unilaterally seized Russian property from international accounts and locations (including physical property). We forced major changes to international trade insurance carriers (shipping insurance, etc.) to restrict Russia's ability to protect trade activity.

In doing so, we sent a very, very clear message: at its sole discretion, the United States can restrict your management of your own currency, isolate you and drive up the costs of your trade and seize your property. It can and will do so quickly, and it can and will do so absent a state of war involving itself or an ally.

If you want to degrade confidence, this is all a great way to do it and a lot of countries have noticed.

I do think that the Dollar as "reserve currency" is on its way out. It is not on its way out because of the BRICS, but because of our actions against Russia and our out-of-control spending and associated monetary games. And when it goes, so does our ability to play "hide the inflation" by sequestering it in foreign trade flows.

I think it is partially on its way out because the global economy that needed a global reserve currency is changing. We have never been a large global trader as a percentage of our GDP, and that is just going down as we reshore our supply lines. Yes, that more than anything else will force our spending addiction into a bit of a crisis.

Still true. US is re-industrializing at a rapid pace. Still most productive innovative economy on the planet. Russia has never been more than a third world commodity broker with a first rate military. China's GDP has been overstated for decades and is nowhere near the numbers they regularly post - an impressive gain for sure, but less than we think - plus they are falling off the cliff so to speak. Brazil was the country we all thought would explode up but has actually fallen back.

India is doing pretty well. All of them would trade places with us immediately. I don't mean to diminish our issues. They exist and are serious. The BRICS mean nothing.

464 Good morning, JJ. Great post, as usual! Extra applause to Congressman Gaetz. He did what has been long overdue. The government of the U.S. cannot continue to be a bank for political favors, it must serve the people. Period.
It's also a delight to watch the GOPe commentariat wail and kick their feet at the air. Bonchie and Joe Cunningham at RedState.com are attacking Gatez, stating that if he was going to get rid of McCarthy, he needed to "have a plan" for afterwards, an argument that is meaningless bullshit!!!
You see, they and the rest of the commentariat think that keeping McCarthy somehow keeps the Republicans all together and that's somehow more important in their view than having Republicans live up to the promises they made to voters. It's like a car with a bad engine that constantly fails, so you toss the engine and get a new one that makes the car work. Like said car, the U.S. House has failed for decades because we've had grifters and liars (Boehner, Ryan, Rogers, Upton, McMorris-Rogers and McCarthy) giving rave speeches but never doing a thing.
So put the career grifters out of power and give it back to the people. Now that's a plan! Deal with it or suck it, RedState!

465 I wish this was true. Brazil, Russia, Iran, China, South Africa. Combined GDP $28 Trillion. US GDP (2021) $23 Trillion. BRICS countries working on a common currency. America has outsourced so much manufacturing, it is nowhere near as "productive" as in the past, despite its GDP.

I don't know where to begin with this. OK: Russia is a one trick pony. It always has been. South Africa is totterning on being South Zimbabwe. China is in serious trouble. Brazil was doing fine until they re-elected a corrupt Leftist.

And once again you are one of those people for whom Manufacturing Jobs Are The Only Jobs That Matter. Farmers, ranchers, people in the oil industry, docs, etc: fuck 'em, right? (And yet another poster who shrieks and screams about "outsourcing" as other countries outsource to US. Those BMWs you see on the highway were made in SC, not Munich.)
