The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Race baiting has become ubiquitous...so much so that it seems to be click-bait more than anything even remotely substantive. And the most integrated part of our country...sports...isn't immune to it.

Wait...did I say "integrated?" Whoops! That's not correct. Whites and Asians are woefully underrepresented in some professional sports, and yet there is no national conversation about the obvious racism among every single football and basketball general manager and coach. How else can one explain the huge disparity between the American population and the racial makeup of those sports?

The reality of course is that the people who make the decisions in college and professional sports don't have any interest in the color of their players. In fact they have very little interest in the criminality and character of their players, judging by the number of thugs playing these sports at the college and professional level. Hell, if the latest mass-murdering psycho could hit a high fastball or shed a double-team block he would attract some attention from the GMs.

That sports is almost 100% post-racial grates on the professional race-baiters and the hack journalists who are desperate for attention, so any chance to create some artificial racial strife is just wonderful for them.

And here is the quintessential hack doing just that!

Oregon's Dan Lanning Calls Skip Bayless Comments 'Classless,' Praises What Deion Sanders Is Doing For College Football

“I’ve tried to tell you guys for two weeks there is a deep-rooted, venomous vengeance that is starting to manifest itself against Deion among white coaches. And I’m not gonna say they’re all white because we saw what Jay Norvell did just two weeks ago. It’s deep-rooted and seeded because Deion (Sanders) didn’t pay any dues that they all had to pay,” Skip Bayless said Monday morning.

Never mind that talking sh*t about the opposing team and the opposing coach has been part of athletics since the first time Man decided that physical competition outside of the battlefield was a good thing.

Here are Deion Sanders' comments after the game:

"A good, old-fashioned butt kicking. No excuses," Sanders said about the game.

"Their coaches did a good job preparing their team. Obviously, we didn't."

Apparently Sanders didn't get the memo that it was all a KKK plot to undermine him and cast aspersions on his success as a black coach. Maybe Deion is a crypto-white-supremacist!

Or...Skip Bayless is an obnoxious blowhard without anything original to say about the game, so he fell back on the tired and increasingly irrelevant trope about structural racism. It's pathetic, it's boring, it's creating an artificial controversy, and it detracts form the achievements of the athletes on the field.

One of the most insulting things in American professional sports has been the elevation of Jackie Robinson to some sort of racial icon. Yes, he was the first black player in Major League Baseball. He got there because he was a marvelous athlete and one of the greatest players of his generation, but that is lost in the mess that MLB has made of his legacy.

Every time race is injected into sports it diminishes the marvel that is athletic achievement. There is no substitute for talent, and no way that pressure groups and protests and affirmative action can hide the undeniable fact that some people are better than others at hitting a baseball or driving to the basket or running a route and catching a football.

Athletics is the last bastion of pure merit, and weasels like the miserable, grating, talentless Skip Bayless want to change that.

22 Insider Paper @TheInsiderPaper 5h
NEW 🚨 Singapore blows up 100kg WWII-era bomb after thousands evacuated
||Singapore army specialists on Tuesday detonated a 100-kilogram (220-pound) World War II-era bomb found at a construction site, causing a thunderous boom in the city-state after authorities had evacuated thousands of residents.

More than 4,000 people were evacuated from nearby residences for the controlled detonation, which local media reported was the largest-ever exercise involving a WWII relic in Singapore. [...]

Japanese planes first bombed Singapore, then a British colony, on December 8, 1941, a day after Tokyo’s attack on the US Pacific fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii that pushed Washington into the conflict.

The bombings intensified in January 1942 before Japanese troops landed on the island on February 8 and captured it after a week of fighting that culminated in the surrender of Singapore’s British defenders.||

That's the point of race-baiting.

In the workplace, it detracts from the achievements of the workers and executives who made stuff people want to buy/

In entertainment, it detracts from the achievements of the writers, directors, producers, etc. who made stuff people want to watch.

In politics, it detracts from the achievements of statesmen who delivered what the people wanted within the confines of the law.

It all serves the same purpose regardless of venue. When someone starts race baiting (or sex baiting or whatever other kind), he is saying very clearly that he is looking for a wedge to disparage someone who did better than he did. Real men do what Sanders did - they acknowledge that they failed and need to do better. Manipulative con men do what Bayliss did - blame it on some amorphous boogey man.

If it were actually about the kids, he'd be Coach Sanders, not Coach "Prime." It's all about his ego and desire to make boocoo dollar. It reminds me of the Mike Kzeweefsfsdavcki from Duke when he announced his retirement BEFORE the basketball season started then told everyone 'this season is about the kids.'

It doesn't matter whether your specific memory is correct because the essential truth you're describing is right. Ancient Greece is one of the reservoirs of cultural memory in the West, and its notions of strict hierarchical systems of value - The Greater and The Lesser and whatnot - remain deeply ingrained in our culture and the net result is a perpetuation of power systems that are inherently oppressive.

It's a good thing indeed that most people don't understand the reference to The Iliad. Detergent and comic book characters (although problematic in their own rights due to the former's association of cleanliness (and therefore goodness) with whiteness and the latter's perpetuation of classical tropes of supremacy and oppression) are far less destructive than a general knowledge of Ancient Greek archetypes would be.

199 The dirty little secret in the NFL and other sports in which a majority of players are black is that the black players actually prefer white coaches. The most friction you'll see on a team is between black players and black coaches.

Why is this? Nobody really knows, but I have a theory. Most pro athletes come from poor backgrounds and broken homes. Probably absentee black fathers, bad black males in their lives, etc. They grow up to distrust adult black men.

Are their exceptions? Of course. But I think this is the general model.

220 I kept hearing all this crap about Deion in the weeks leading up to Colorado’s first game. Then I finally got a chance to listen to him be interviewed and liked him. He is direct, brash , at the same time seems clear on right and wrong. After one of his players was injured by an illegal hit from an opposing team player, who began receiving death threats for it, he came right out and defended the kid, saying these things happen in football and death threats, violence has no place in the game.

Deion's already been attacked by some of the sports media for violating the Tebow Rule: don't mention Jesus in front of the audience. Honestly he seems like a good guy.

when i was studying russian a few years back, we did a bunch of reading from a kids' book about greek myths that a friend of the instructor had picked up during a trip to moscow. it was lots of fun.

there's a point in the odyssey where they arrive at this island covered in reeds. i couldn't make head nor tail out of the name of the island given in the russian book, so i looked up the passage in the original greek where it was given as "elektrados", which wiktionary told me is an adjective meaning "of amber". at the time, i was writing a little operating system for an embedded project and didn't have a name for it. i thought ElektraDOS would be a spanking good name, so i called the thing Amber.

The TV series The Time Tunnel was on that year, and in one episode the heroes visit the Trojan War. Even then I knew damned well the ancient Greeks wouldn't have called the gods by their *Roman* names.

You mean, like white coaches shouldn't have their teams play to the best of their abilities against black coaches? Does Mr. Bayless have any recordings of white coaches yelling at their teams to go get Colorado because the Buffaloes are coached by a black man?

If your team scores fewer points than the other team, you lose. Racism has nothing to do with it.

348 345 11 Sports "Journalists" are the worst among them. They hate that they are inconsequential and dont write about things that "matter" like their peers. That is why they inject insane leftist talking points into everything. They want to be part of the in-crowd.

my paternal grandmother married at 14. don't know how old she was when she birthed my father; would have to look it up and can't at work.

352 Great coaches were almost always mediocre players at best. Why? Because lacking talent they had to learn technique to make things work - so they can teach that technique to others, including naturally talented players.

Also floating around in this stew is the thinking that superstar PLAYERS shouldn't go on to coaching. Superstars are supposed to retire gracefully and maybe get a broadcast job or something. But coaching is for coaches and they don't like uppity retired stars infringing on their terrain.

This is that insanely stupid retard who tried to have phone sex with a radical feminist anti-male crusader? He was set up, obviously, but how stupid can he be to have fallen for it? He's rich and a legend. He could have girls willingly lining up. Yet he does this insanely idiotic thing.
