Rupert Murdoch Retires, A Little Bit

What a bang-up job he's done in the past ten years.

He's "transitioning" to the position of Chairman Emeritus, which I assume means something like "he'll continue to have as much power as he wants at any given time, letting his useless liberal sons control things when he doesn't have the energy."

Kind of like things already were.

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch is transitioning from his roles as Chair of Fox Corporation and Executive Chairman of News Corp, he announced on Thursday.

Murdoch, 92, informed colleagues in a letter Thursday of his decision, noting he was in good health. He will officially make the transition in November, and his son Lachlan will become the sole chairman of both companies.

"I am writing to let you all know that I have decided to transition to the role of Chairman Emeritus at Fox and News," Murdoch wrote. "For my entire professional life, I have been engaged daily with news and ideas, and that will not change. But the time is right for me to take on different roles, knowing that we have truly talented teams and a passionate, principled leader in Lachlan who will become sole Chairman of both companies...."

Murdoch went on to say the battle over freedom of speech and freedom of thought had never been more intense, and he said his family remained firmly committed to that cause.

Yeah, you showed that when you fired Tucker Carlson and then used the threat of lawsuit to keep him from going on television to express his opinions.

Don't weep the loss of Rupert Murdoch. Megyn Kelly, who certainly knows something about Fox, says that Rupert Murdoch was never, ever a "conservative." He's just a soulless moneywhore with fathomless appetite. (My words, not hers.)

The conservative leading Fox was Roger Ailes, and once Murdoch fired him, everything went to shit.

91 I'm on the last episode of the second season of Foundation,...speaking of TV.

This show is far dumber than it needs to be, and it still irritates the shit out of me that the characters know about the Mule hundreds of years before he shows up.

I think a big part of the problem is this need for a recurring cast instead of treating each season or so as a chapter in the history of the fall of Empire and rise of Foundation with new personalities, more in line with the books.

Now, I'm for Aussie poon as much as the next red-blooded American, but this is supposed to be about the war in the Pacific. How's some tramp dumping you, basically pulling a George Costanza on the poor sap, about the war??

Most writers these days do not seem to want to write for the material they have been chosen to adapt. They have their own stories, so they brazenly modify the old thing to match their vision (or story idea they have been working on since high school.)

Most of the time, this sucks ass.

I have not watched One Piece (no Netflix), nor read the Anime (not a weeb), but I have heard people say that they love the show because it has stayed faithful to the characters and story ideas.

The only comment I can make except for vague happiness for a property that I am not invested in is that the redhead's boobs do not seem as large as the other material I have seen.

But I am happy the fans of this anime/manga actually got a good one. I wish I could say the same for the material I loved.

Yes. Per Wapo: "Lachlan Murdoch is viewed as far more personally conservative than his father, who at times prioritized the finances and political influence of his media outlets rather than their ideology. Speaking at an event to launch a right-wing think tank in Sydney earlier this year, the son offered “a monologue that could have fit in seamlessly with the lineup of right-wing commentary served up every night by Fox News’s prime-time opinion hosts — including an obscure jab at the 1619 Project,”

Murdoch competently pretended not to gag on his own bile every time a "conservative" thing was mentioned so he could con the rubes and so permitted an extremely modest amplification of heterodox ideas in a couple of shows . As we all know, that's bad for democracy.

I would recommend the series. I started reading it as a senior in High School (when the third book had just come out in hardcover.) Read the first two books in paperback. Bought the third in Hardcover. Went back and got the first two in Hardcover, then bought each one as it came out for the next... close to 20 years.

First five books are solid/awesome. Middle is a bit of a slog except for certain sequences. The end is strong and as well as could be expected since Jordan died and passed the series to someone else to finish.

I couldn't really enjoy the film, because I'd read the book first, and it had me wondering why they even bothered using the same title.

It's not just that they changed "some" things, it's that they fundamentally altered the basic premise. It would be like making a movie about vegan vampires who can only come out in the day, and must sleep at night, because the moonlight kills them.

I think he is an INTJ (personality theory), and does some really odd things (and according to personality theory, I am an INTJ too).
Posted by: A face in the crowd
-------
Read some about his upbringing which is enough to cause issues. But, my point is that Elon does not hate on humanity like Gates does in wanting to depopulate the world and Gates and Musk became enemies because Gates casually shorted billions of dollars in Tesla stock to Musk's ire. Then Gates could not understand why Musk refused to allow Gates to 'advise' him on philanthropy. Gates was also a 'friend' of Epstein and a known sampler of whores.

Buffet's wife picked out Buffet's mistress personally and his avuncular uncle act hides a real piece of shit familiar which how DC works (his dad was a congress critter) and uses that to his advantages in getting acquisitions dirt cheap or preventing pipelines from being built as it would his hurt railway revenue.

Read The Man Who Sold the Moon by Robert A. Heinlein and you will recognize Elon in it.

202 Perhaps Murdoch felt there was no need to manage the media empire he has anymore. Some people don't know when to quit, or they're paranoid about relinquishing command of their empire. They're really no different than feudal aristocrats.

Sometimes they know change is coming and they'd rather be out of the picture. Or they're being blackmailed.

People leave prominent positions for all sorts of reasons. It's certain (to me) he trashed FOX News at the behest of the junta. His departure may have part of that deal.

It has that effect, doesn't it? Very similar to the effect of narrowly avoiding causing great harm. That happened to me this week. Little kid riding her bike the wrong direction, which is an immediate red flag so I slowed down and I'm glad I did. She turned hard right and crossed in front of me. I came to a halt maybe a couple of inches from her. Had I been going even a little faster, it would have ended very differently.

There's more relief in one of those than in a near-miss to yourself, though, at least in my experience. I'd hate to have put a kid in the hospital or the grave.

We can't judge his conservatism by US standards. As an Aussie, who spent a lot of time in the UK, his conservatism is probably closest to Nelson Rockefeller's. He liked Reagan because he likes power.

You can't have social liberty without the political/economic liberty which allows it. That's almost axiomatic. Conservatism was just the recognition that conversely you also can't have political liberty without the social liberty to form the kinds of associations and societies that foster political liberty and denounce and hinder attempts to destroy it.

It's not really an "-ism". And a slavish adherence to established political organizations and structures regardless of their merit is not even conservatism. It's.... i don't know. Something else. Toadyism?

I lived in a subdivision as a yute. One day, I was heading home from a friend's house to see if my mom had left to go to the store. As I flew out of the driveway, mom was approaching, saw me and accelerated as I slammed into the side of the car and flipped over the top of it.

I landed and slammed the back of my arm on the road. That was the only real pain and managed to keep my head from bouncing off the pavement.

She got out, looked at me and yelled at me to go home.

It is something I first started to notice with W, but did not really crystalize until Trump- and the reaction to Trump. You can call it grifters or whatever, but it seemed like the salesmen got slicker and more and more obviously fake. 417 It's only a matter of time until the Democrats control all three branches of government in perpetuity. At which time they will begin propping up media outlets with financial grants (tax dollars) that will continue to flow as long of said outlets push the proper narrative. As it is now, they are reliant on the honor system to promote their unpopular positions. And, while that works, it isn't as solid. We've seen what they have had to resort to when someone goes off the reservation (Rowan Farrow is a good example).

Anyone with any ounce of "conservatism" supported the opposition in that era. I'm in that group also (although I have hated McCain for a long, long time and that was the one I had the most resistance with). I also liked Palin for a hot minute.
