Elephant March Cafe

babyelephant.jpg

I've been contacted by at least 70 people, whose identities and sensitive psychological data will be protected, that they are experiencing intense and debilitating "Sea Stack Withdrawal." As I am a Healer, here you go.

Rescuers deliver chest-compression CPR to an elephant as her terrified baby looks on.

Did you drop this?

Elephant convoy.

Elephant mom helping a baby elephant cross a river with a strong current. Don't worry, he's okay.

I've linked this a couple of times before, but it's amusing to see an elephant block the road so that he can much sugar cane off a cargo truck.

This is meant to appeal to Duncanthrax, and I expect to no one else. #Batservice

I'm not following you, in fact, I was just going over there...

This poor cat must be terrified! Those babies are creepy!

Junior's in one of his moods.

Rescuing bear cubs who got themselves trapped in... a dumpster.

Handsome fella.

This one is going for a 1987 glam metal kind of look. C.C. DeHorse.

Spider-Dog, Spider-Dog...

Spider-Sheep, Spider-Sheep...

Typical feline dominance behavior.

A baby bear gets into beef with some baby tigers and the savagery is just adorbz.

Rescuing a tiny fawn that got stuck in a window-well. Fortunately the mom stuck around nearby.

It's like a goat rodeo up in heyah!

Swiss peak.

More beautiful horses, free to run at the beach.

🚨#BREAKING: Climate Activists has shut down NYC Museum of Modern Art
📌#Manhattan | #NewYork
Currently Climate activists have shut down the NYC Museum of Modern Art for over three hours. They did this by blocking the entry to MOMA, lying down on the steps, or making a human chain and occupying the area. This continued for over three hours and still continuing, even after the MoMA museum officially closed. Even though the museum is closed, activists are still inside. These climate protestors are demanding the removal of MoMA's board chair due to their ties to the fossil fuel industry.

40 I always found it funny that cats raised away from kids virtually all react to babies and toddlers as if they are entirely different species from adults. They will watch hawks outside fine but not toddlers

Fritz Lieber had a story "Space-Time for Springers" where an intelligent kitten intuited that kittens turned into adult humans instead of brutish adult cats, at a magical coffee drinking ceremony while kids would morph into adult cats.

66 Phenylephrine being ineffective is interesting.

Pseudoephedrine works, but the government doesn't like it because it can be used to make meth.

Of course even now with meth being de facto legal in most blue states the government still heavily restricts Pseudoephedrine.

And the argument is, well, get that stuff with Phenylephrine instead.

So the government really, really wanted Phenylephrine to work...so it just sort of made everyone pretend it did...

67 Alabama Elephants -

On October 8, 1930, sports writer Everett Strupper of the Atlanta Journal wrote a story of the Alabama-Mississippi game he had witnessed in Tuscaloosa four days earlier. Strupper wrote, "That Alabama team of 1930 is a typical Wade machine, powerful, big, tough, fast, aggressive, well-schooled in fundamentals, and the best blocking team for this early in the season that I have ever seen. When those big brutes hit you I mean you go down and stay down, often for an additional two minutes. "Coach Wade started his second team that was plenty big and they went right to their knitting scoring a touchdown in the first quarter against one of the best fighting small lines that I have seen. For Ole Miss was truly battling the big boys for every inch of ground. "At the end of the quarter, the earth started to tremble, there was a distant rumble that continued to grow. Some excited fan in the stands bellowed, 'Hold your horses, the elephants are coming,' and out stamped this Alabama varsity. "It was the first time that I had seen it and the size of the entire eleven nearly knocked me cold, men that I had seen play last year looking like they had nearly doubled in size."

100 A judge rules Ohio can’t block Cincinnati gun ordinances, but state plans to appeal

CINCINNATI (AP) — A judge has ruled that Ohio can’t block Cincinnati from regulating guns, finding that a state law violates the city’s “home rule” authority.
Judge Jennifer Branch granted Cincinnati’s request for a preliminary injunction Thursday, finding that the “home rule” amendment gives local governments the freedom to enact laws that address the unique circumstances they face.
“While state law may regulate firearms in several areas, there are several meaningful gaps within which municipalities may regulate firearms,”...“provided they do not conflict with general laws.”

The city had sued in January, seeking the injunction to stop the state from enforcing a preemption law that bars municipalities from imposing restrictions on a person’s ability to own, possess, buy, sell, transport or store any gun or part of a gun.
Cincinnati is not the only Ohio city that has battled for the authority to regulate firearms. In November 2022, a Franklin County judge sided with Columbus by ruling Ohio’s preemption law unconstitutional, a decision that was overturned last month by a state appellate court.

Under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, schools are prohibited from using a certain pot of federal education dollars — money from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 — “for the provision of or training in the use of a ‘dangerous weapon.’”

Republicans warn that the conflict has degraded trust in how future bipartisan bills would be enacted under a Democratic administration.
“This is the sort of stuff that makes people who would be inclined to support the policy say, ‘but I can’t trust the administration,’” said Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), one of the chief negotiators on the bill. “I’m frustrated with this. This was not an easy bill to get bipartisan support on.”

According to Gaelic legend, the giant Finn McCool picked up a rock and threw it across the sea toward Scotland. The boulder fell into the sea and became the Isle of Mann.

A pebble fell off the boulder and became Rockall.

A U.N. treaty of the seas holds that sea stacks may be included in a nation's territory (Britain claims Rockall), but that possession of a sea stack confers no nautical exclusion zone, i.e., as possession of an island would.

Sea birds lay their eggs on Rockall (& other sea stacks), because predators can't get to them there.

156 66 Phenylephrine being ineffective is interesting.

Most likely its the same game as why the type of Freon used in car AC is scientifically found to be harmful to the environment almost exactly when the patent on the last formulation that was necessary due to the environmental good is about to expire. VERY often, some proven, patented pharmaceutical/medicine which has the patent about to expire, is altered in some minute way, as non-meaningful as changing from capsule to tablet, in order to extend the patent. Such things happen all of the time, and the law allows it. There are dozens of legal dodges used to soak the public. Thus much less expensive generics are staved off, long after the patent would normally have expired. That is just one example of what is going on.

I worked for a firm with three VP's. Pres. and VP's were all members of the same fraternity at school. There was no such thing as true peer-to-peer exchanges with the rest of us.

As an aside, the company went from 200 mil. a year to bankrupt. Most of us saw it coming, and bailed.

174 Tucker's interview with Milei has almost 380 million hits.

Milei may not have a clue if the military and police will help or hinder any massive protest, and clearly hates Communists, but he is very definite on the danger of the idea "if there is a need there is a right"

I wish Tucker had asked a bit more about dollarization and had asked more about Rothbard.

179 I am curious as to whether those climate activists walked or makes biked from their homes to the protest.

And did they wear all artisanally-crafted clothing made of natural fibers, grown without use of chemical fertilizers. And no elastic in their gaunchies, of course.

181 We think here a doe had twins, at least a doe in last few months has had care for 2 fawns that seem together always. Saw them again yesterday, but don't know if deer youngsters just all stick together or are siblings.

Saw an antelope yesterday. It was a plump little bastard. We rarely see them on this side of the Red Deer River.

182 So apparently a surveillance camera catching you getting felt up in a movie theater is now the equivalent of getting paid to stream sex acts over the internet:

183 Taxes paid each year on a paid-off house support your local school groomers, criminals, and illegals.

Taxes on property should only be used for funding projects that maintain or enhance the value of property. Roads, sewers, water mains, sidewalks, and buildings for use by the public. I would stipulate that capital spending for school buildings would qualify, but not salaries for teachers and admin workers.

185 I have to say, if I were those guys getting the bear cubs out of that dumpster, I would not have quietly waited for them to leave on their own.

I would have been beating on the back of the can fit to wake the dead, to instill a lifelong terror of dumpsters in the little garbage-eaters.
Posted by: FeatherBlade at September 15, 2023 08:32 PM (CxG+i)

Funny bear story from my oilpatch days. Was working as mudlogger at a rig in B.C. (Nabors 90, IIRC) They had had issues with bears, so the crew had rigged an electrical cable from the motor house to a dumpster, with a plug, normally left unplugged so as not to shock the lease hands who dumped trash in the bin. I was out an about, grabbing a sample or something, and I saw a big momma bear climb into the dumpster. I trotted over to the plug, and plugged it in, then went straight up to the mud tanks, and told the derrick hand what I had done. He grabbed a 2" square nut, and pegged it at the dumpster. Guy had an arm on him! The nut hit the dumpster with a clang, and Momma Bear came barreling out of there, put a paw on the ground, and got a 220 volt zap. She headed up the road at maximum speed. cont'd.

186 ...when I headed up to camp for midnight supper, I saw her on the side of the road, licking her paws. Now this sounds cruel, but if it deterred her from raiding dumpsters, it may have saved her from being shot later as a "problem bear".
