The excerpt shared by Leo Kearse is part of Bond infiltrating Athelstan's organization and more specifically his Anglo-Saxon castle. In order to do so he poses as Peter Sanbourn, the leader of a group of 30 mercenaries.

Kearse's excerpt sees Bond observing a number of guests who have also been invited to Athelstan's castle. It specifically describes a man named Roger Birkett, "Birkett was an ex-Tory MP, famous for promoting covid/vaccines/mask-wearing/5G conspiracy theories, which had spilled over into the usual anti-immigrant, anti-EU, anti-BBC, anti-MSM, anti-cultural Marxist, Climate Change Denial pronouncements. It was an anti-trans diatribe that had eventually got him kicked out of the party and he'd soon after set up the 'New Freedom Party'."

Subtle as a hammer to the ankle.

It continues, "Bond was struck by something. It was a long while since he'd been at any kind of function that was almost exclusively full of men. It felt strange. There was not even a pretence at diversity here. Athelstan hadn't been the least bit concerned about ensuring that half of the people he'd hired to carry out his coup should be women, or non-white, or disabled. This was an unapologetically old-school gathering. In Athelstan's world he was king and could do whatever he wanted."

There was little appetite or demand for foreign stuff, and it has had a long, rich history of breaking itself against the domestic market.

Kinda the boat we're in. The washer is at least 15 years old and a lot of parts are discontinued. The repair guy recommended not putting much money into fixing it and put it toward something new instead. I'd already decided not to spend more than a couple hundred on the old one, so I shopped around a little and found Speed Queen makes very solid machines without a lot of gimmicky electronics. Sold!

I think a significant reason for this is that Americans have gotten used to subtitles over the last decade or so. And part of the reason for that has been terrible sound design and mixing -- not to mention mumbling actors -- that's made a lot of dialog unintelligible. So people turned to subtitles even for American shows and movies.

Like I said a big big difference with Fascism is the lack of presumption of competency of the highly educated. So while it looks very similar, who makes up the most influential class is very different. And you can attribute that difference of putting party loyalists who can actually run sh** and get sh** done instead of over educated loyalist doctorates in charge as to why Fascism can usually feed its people and actually build stuff. While communist governments can usually do neither very well.
