Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Meet The PetMorons

Murphy ee.jpg

This is Murphy a male pitbull. He was a stray so we don't know anything about him. The vet guessed about 10 years old. The city of Independence just lifted its pitbull ban so we can now take pitbulls. He is overweight for a stray! But he seems to have a sweet disposition and is pretty mellow.

Hi, Murphy! Hope you get adopted soon!

Too late for today's pet thread but happening live right now anyway as I read it.

- Bob in Houston.

Wow! An exciting event triggered by last week's Pet Thread (no doubt)! How great is that?

Mama seems to be handling the situation well.

Behold, the real head of the household: Gidget, more commonly known as Nugget or tha' Lil nugget dawg, or just nuggs. We got her from the shelter about 7 years ago. When she's not lounging with her favorite stuffed animal, she's running around the house terrorizing the other two tiny pups and keeping the backyard free of feral cats and squirrels.

We call her nugget because we got her in Colorado and she's smaller than the other two. She's adapted to the Texas heat quite well and she's a snuggler, even in the summer heat. She's the third of three shelter doggehs, which are the best doggehs evah!

CrotchetyOldJarhead

She's a cutie. So is her rhino.

Three Amigos:

RetiredSOF. Long-time lurker, though my three books were showcased a while ago. From left to right: Goose, Murphy, and Gunner. Goose was my daughter and son-in-law's first dog. Big, solid, handsome Boxer and a great dog for three growing grandsons under seven. He passed away about year ago. The other Boxer, Gunner, is a big goofball and not as handsome (chuckle) but has taken over the job of family dog about as well as anyone could ask and the boys love him. Murphy, the Cavalier Spaniel, was my dog, adopted from a Mennonite family in Pennsylvania. He always considered himself to be a big dog and could hold his own with Goose and Gunner. He too passed away about a year ago and is greatly missed. Gunner fills in well for him, however. He has sleepovers with me on occasion.

Sorry about the loss of Goose and Murphy. What a great group of dogs! Glad you get to spend time with Gunner.

murphy replacement.jpg

UPDATE TO LAST POST

RetiredSOF. Mostly lurker. Sent a previous email label Three Amigos.

Got a new pup (seven months) to replace Murphy, the Cavalier Spaniel. His name is Max and he is an amazing dog. He is a miniature Golden Doodle. He and Gunner, the Boxer, are now best friends. Run, run, and run and then compare tongues.

It's so great that you and Gunner have a new friend in your lives. Both dogs have great tongues!

4 So, my sister... Foster of kitteh... had a black kitten about five months old named Mocha. One night, Mocha slipped out of the house and disappeared. My sister posted his pictures on all the missing pet websites and Facebook. She searched, she prayed every night for his safe return. This was a month ago.

Thursday of last week, someone spotted Mocha at the county fairgrounds and reported on one of the Facebook posts. My sister went to the fairgrounds and found him... Exhausted and skin and bones... Hiding in some bushes.

She brought him home. He has done nothing but sleep and eat since getting back... and he only eats if she stays with him by the food while eats. But he is alive and safe and Jeff Epstein didn't kill himself.

16 So happy she found Mocha!

I got a good luck at the three new strays. One is black and white, that came in to eat in daylight hours. There is one that is brown with ocelot-like markings and could be pregnant. And there is a big brown and black one that stayed under the house overnight. Haven't seen them since. I plan to put out a couple of feral shelters forthe winter.

Mr Troubles is starting to notice the colder weather. He came in the house yesterday for pets. He wasn't brave enough to go into the kitchen.

24 Earlier this week I accidentally locked Jasmine up in the same room as Allie. Allie normally doesn't like hanging around other cats, but Jasmine seems to be an exception.

When I got home, I discovered my mistake, but Allie was just sitting on the floor as though there was nothing wrong. I feared that they might have had a go at each other, but that doesn't seem to have happened.

I was very proud of both cats for being in the same room all day without any trouble.

26 Hey, everybody! Stirling and Dagny the Killer Kittens From Outer Space say hello, in their own peculiar way. I took the bubble wrap from the RockAuto air filter shipment and tossed it on the floor, and Stirling began to -- well, not *savage* it, but to work it over thoroughly. I was a little worried he might swallow some of the plastic. Before I could take it away from him, though, I saw him dropping bits of the wrap out of his mouth. He's working it again now. The most trouble will be for me to clean up the bits he's torn loose.

Dagny has shown no interest in it.

27 That top cartoon is hilarious (and probably true). Love the photos, especially the one with the blind dog and his seeing eye mate. Our first two poodles were littermates, never had been apart since birth. One went blind at 4 years old. Without a hitch, his brother became his seeing eye companion as if it happened every day. Pets are awesome.

28 This week we discovered our dog's favorite food: cottage cheese. No really. I eat it sometimes for breakfast and she got up out of a sound sleep to come over and whine until I gave her some. I figured "what the heck" and she inhaled the bite I gave her. Now if she smells cottage cheese from any distance she'll come over and beg for some.

Linda's Annabelle the pure white shorthair was like that, hated other cats. But I have a pic where she and my Siberian Tatiana are eating from bowls on the floor, less than a foot apart; and another where Annabelle and Linda's Siberian Angelique are curled on the bed about a foot apart without apparent animosity.

Tatiana the Wonder Siberian would do something like that. She'd sit on the floor in front of me and just *look* at me. I'd throw one of her small rubber balls. She'd squeak and race after it, and bring it back to me in her jaws for another go. We'd play for a few minutes, I'd go back to my book, and then glance up to see that steady feline gaze on me again. A clever cat she was.

I haven't seen any stray dogs in the city in a very long time. The job of dogcatcher may be obsolete, or it's morphed into something else. Stray or feral cats, yes.
