Covid Makes Smart People Stupid, And Also Joe Biden

Kent Sepkowicz, supposedly an infectious disease expert, got sick. I know, horrors, right?

He had a covid rapid antigen test at home. That test showed that he was negative for covid.

This infectious disease expert decided that that test wasn't enough. Covid had mutated since that test was developed.

He had to know whether he had covid or not. He didn't want to just self-isolate and monitor his symptoms. No, he needed to attack the covid mosquito with a Science Sledgehammer.

So here's what this Rare and Elevated Genius did:

He then trudged to not one but two different drug stores to pick up newer covid tests, exposing all the customers and workers at those drug stores to whatever bug he had.

Because Science.

Via David Strom at Hot Air, the hypochondraical maniac Kent Sepkowicz tells his story of obsessively tracking down covid tests to serially test for it, over a course of days, exposing innocent bystanders to whatever illness he was in fact carrying.

The below isn't a parody of Kent's actions -- it's Kent's actual account of what he did.

This though was just the start. Remember? One negative test on the first day of symptoms, especially with the rapid antigen test, is not determinative. I went through the house looking for masks (found a few) and N95s (found just one) and looked for any test kits that might be hidden away, stacked somewhere in a moment of last year's supreme epidemiologic overconfidence. I found none.

So, to prepare for the days ahead, I headed out to the closest drugstore -- where I found that tests were sold out. I walked (very) slowly to another one several blocks away. The second drugstore had only a single remaining test on offer from the now picked-over shelves, which I bought with a credit card, not wanting to give over contaminated and infectious and perhaps lethal paper currency to the unwitting cashier.

But you stood within a couple of feet of him wearing an ineffective N95 mask though, right?

But you're An Hero for using a credit card.

BTW don't most drug stores have self-checkout lines now?

The entire "what if" scenario appeared in full, the choreography of living with a pandemic with all the tangled concerns: In addition to the mechanics of diagnosis, I had to sort through notifying but not alarming people; tiptoeing around my house to keep a distance from my wife; trying to anticipate what might need to be canceled in the days ahead, should I be positive on the next morning's test; and feeling draggy but uncertain why. In other words, though stale and unwelcomed, I was forced to return to the deliberate, sober, adult world of complicated decisions that are their own silent reward.

He's congratulating himself for being an obsessive-compulsive wreck of a "man."

All because he... caught a cold.

But highly educated neurotics aren't the only people made stupid by covid.

Covid also makes deeply stupid people deeply stupider. Take Joe Biden for example-- he was just exposed to covid by his Retard Whore wife, who has covid.

So what does he do? He hangs a medal around the neck -- coming within nuzzling, sniffing distance of the man's mouth -- of a 81-year-old veteran hero.

Note that 81-year-olds are in fact put in peril by an exposure to covid.

Biden wants to scare the shit out of Americans to comply with his election-year covid alarmism, but can't be assed to reschedule a routine awards presentation for an 81-year-old man who might even be as decrepit and frail as he is.

Just to stick it to sane Americans further, he didn't bother wearing a mask while coming within inches of the man's mouth.

I know masks don't do anything -- and so does Biden, apparently.

But he'll mandate them for Americans on public transportation and for children in schools anyway.

Just to humiliate you. Just to let you know who makes the rules, and who suffers the rules.

Shortly before the event, KJP said during a press conference that Joe would be wearing a mask anyway while indoors or near other people unless he was speaking, eating, or drinking. And he did show up to Taylor's ceremony wearing a mask. But he took it off while giving some opening remarks and left it off even when placing the medal around the 81-year-old hero's neck, leaning only inches away from his face.

The New York Post:

President Biden remained maskless Tuesday in front of an 81-year-old vet while awarding him the Medal of Honor -- flouting COVID-19 rules that the White House had just said Biden would follow.

Biden, 80 -- whose wife Jill tested positive for the deadly virus Monday -- removed his black KN-95-style mask during a prayer at the ceremony for retired Army Capt. Larry Taylor in the White House East Room, ahead of the president's remarks from a lectern recounting the elderly honoree's heroism in the Vietnam War...

After giving his speech, Biden failed to put the mask back on as he approached Taylor and stood roughly 6 inches from him for about four minutes as the citation for Taylor's award was read aloud.

This was the event I mentioned yesterday, where Biden couldn't be bothered to stick around for the whole ceremony and pulled an Irish Goodbye midway through.

J.J. Sefton covered the reaction from veterans about this massive show of disrespect this morning.

Biden, 80, abruptly left the ceremony after fastening the nation's highest military decoration around the neck of retired Army Capt. Larry Taylor, 81, before the closing benediction was read by Chaplain Brig. Gen. William Green Jr.

Military veterans slammed Biden afterward, arguing that the commander-in-chief showed a startling lack of respect.

"Pardon my French...But what a f--ing idiot. The continuous lack of respect Biden has for anyone is appalling. Hawaii, Service members, active shooter victims, the list goes on," former Navy SEAL and podcast host Shawn Ryan tweeted after the president's hasty exit.

"At least he didn't check his watch this time," Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas), an Army veteran, snarked on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Don't worry, though: Biden was possibly not spitting early to get a head start on his Daily Vacation.

He might just have been a confused, demented old man who wasn't sure where he was supposed to go:

Some questioned whether Biden's sudden departure was pre-planned or another case of the doddering leader being unsure of where to go after giving public remarks.

"Do you think this was done on purpose or just is it more senile moments? I think the guy is so self-absorbed he makes blunders like this. God this man is a massive embarrassment to our nation," Gun Owners of America state director for Indiana Tim Harmsen mused in a tweet.

Biden doesn't bother wearing a mask despite being exposed to covid when getting up close and personal with an 81-year-old man.

But NBC "News" breathlessly reports that a fresh covid panic has been scheduled by The Regime and your participation is required.

Hospitalizations are rising. Deaths have ticked up. Wastewater samples are picking up the virus, as are labs across the country.

"Every single one of those things is showing us that we have increased rates of Covid transmission in our communities," said Jodie Guest, a professor of epidemiology at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta. ...

Hospitalizations, for example, are "a very good indicator of severity of Covid disease," Guest said.

Are hospitalizations really "a very good indicator of severity of covid disease"?

Ed Morrissey answers:

No, they most certainly are not. And in fact, this correlative measure hasn't functioned as even a somewhat relevant proxy for severity since the Delta variant.

Why? Because the CDC still counts hospitalizations and deaths as COVID related even when it plays no causative role in the event. The data is still entirely correlative; hospitals tested for COVID on all admissions, and any positive result was reported to the CDC as a COVID hospitalization, and while they're no longer testing every admission, the data they do produce is still correlative, which we'll get to momentarily. The same is true for reported deaths. Most other Western nations did and still do the same thing (Norway is among the exceptions), which makes them consistently useless in terms of public policy.

But Biden is failing, badly, and covid panic worked for him in 2020 (including suspending all rational rules about vote integrity), so Here We Go Again.

If you're walking distance from multiple drug stores, you're in an urban area.

If you're in an urban area, there's an entire delivery economy at your disposal. Put in orders at the five nearest drug stores and flag the orders for delivery. Secondly, since cases are up, have you noticed what again our institutions are NOT doing? 165 I have noticed a large correlation to how concerned FOR REALZEES people were / are about covid, and how badly they "got it."

Most normal people I know who got covid had a day or two of being really tired, then a week or two of mild cold-like symptoms. Enough to be annoying, but nothing serious.

Most covid nuts act like they had a mutated strain of ebola. "I literally thought I was going to die for the first two weeks. It was real touch or go. Then I spent the next six weeks wheezing for breath. Now I can breathe, but not well. I have long covid. Brain fog, erectile dysfunction, reduced lung capacity. It's the worst thing ever. Thank god I was quadruple boosted or I definitely would have died."

Yeah. My dad got it, back in the Delta days. No idea which flavor of COVID he got, but he got it. Knocked him flat on his ass. High fever, in bed and almost unable to move for 2-3 days. Bad fatigue. No appetite. A severe flu. No lack of O2 saturation, etc., but a seriously bad flu.

On day 3, he got up and we ate dinner. He had some mental fogginess for about four more days. A week or so after it flattened him, he was fine - a lot like a bad flu.

I got it from him and had some moderate symptoms for a couple of days. Nothing severe, didn't miss a day of work. My mom got it and had the sniffles for a day or two - a nothing burger. None of us wore it as a badge of honor or sympathy.

Respiratory diseases in particular are going to circulate until some percentage of the population has had them and developed natural immunity as a result, and then the wave will peter out. There's no action that's going to decrease that percentage, and given our experience with covid, it's kind of dubious whether we can even really affect the time it takes to get there. So there's no moral imperative to prevent other people from catching your cold.

Yeah, but not really.

PhD means you have the ability to bullshit and stay in school and regurgitate stuff back to your professor for way longer than normal people.

Probably have to be slightly smarter than average, but you definitely don't have to be a genius.

It especially helps if you're from the right caste, since it is a bit competitive to get in to phd programs, and it is very helpful if you know people. Luckily, a staggering percentage of people with phd's are well connected to academia, so they can crowd out the normal people. It's very political.

No contact with anyone needed. Plus, if you are really feeling bad, who wants to get dressed, travel and deal with a store. It was all I could do to get up, put on a robe and take my dog out for a walk. They deliver fool. Walmart you can place your order online and pick it up in the parking lot without having to get out of your car.

OTOH is there anyone who didn't hand amazon et al $20 for a home pulse oximeter when covid was scary back in early 2020? Regardless of what you have if your pulse O2 is extra low get thee to a hospital. If your O2 and pulse are reasonable just take it easy and be patient rather than becoming a patient.

It would be more accurate than any so-called scientific COVID test deployed so far.

349 Texas Bans Mask Mandates as COVID Restrictions Imposed in Other States
Sep 01, 2023 at 12:25 PM EDT

A ban on COVID-19 restrictions that impose a mandate to wear face masks in public spaces went into effect in Texas after a number of institutions across the U.S. reinstated the policy due to a rise in new infections fueled by the emergence of two new variants of the virus.
Senate Bill 29, which was passed by the state's Legislature in May and signed by Governor Greg Abbott at the start of June, went into effect on Friday. It prohibits most government institutions from enforcing mask-wearing policies but places no restrictions on private entities.

If they do check on you, evade as much and as often as you can.

He's going to "get COVID" and die. Whether it's actually a virus or a pillow over his face that kills him, Biden's going to die of "COVID".

This accomplishes two things;
1) His horrible record is minimized/erased in all the week long ceremonies dedicated to Our Greatest, Most Empathetic President, Joe Biden

2) If Joe Biden could "die of COVID", the man with the best medical care in the world, then we're all at risk(!!!!!!!!!!) from this super deadly new variant.
Everyone needs to mask-up and vote through the mail!!!

396 PhD means you have the ability to bullshit and stay in school and regurgitate stuff back to your professor for way longer than normal people.

It’s the 20/80 model. 20% of PhD students are truly bright and innovative. The other 80% are just paying their dues, hoping for a berth somewhere. But, if you PO the “academic” PTB, you’re screwed no matter how smart you are.

Jack Smith is Preparing NEW Charges Against Donald Trump
Special counsel Jack Smith continues his investigation into attempts to legally contest the 2020 election, even a month after indicting Donald Trump for allegedly orchestrating a wide-ranging “conspiracy” to win presidential re-election.

A recent report from CNN suggests that Smith is extending his efforts to potentially indict Trump for raising millions of dollars following the 2020 election under the pretext of investigating widespread voter fraud. He is actively seeking information regarding the allocation of these funds for the inspection of voting machines.

It should be noted that Smith’s prosecution team is likely the source of an illegal leak to CNN.

426 From Fox News report: Hamster Wheel Man

"Based on the condition of the vessel – which was afloat as a result of wiring and buoys – USCG officers determined Baluchi was conducting a manifestly unsafe voyage," the criminal complaint says.

When Coast Guard officers told Baluchi they were cutting his voyage short, Baluchi threatened to kill himself with a 12-inch knife if anyone tried to apprehend him, and claimed to have a bomb aboard, according to the complaint

After days of trying to get Baluchi to board Coast Guard vessels, he admitted that he did not have a real bomb and on September 1 officers were able to get him to disembark at the USCG Base in Miami Beach, Florida.

Court documents said that this was not his first attempt to run on water in his hamster wheel. Officials said he attempted similar voyages in 2014, 2016 and 2021, all of which have ended with Coast Guard intervention.

He faces federal charges of obstruction of a boarding, and violation of a Captain of the Port order.

Joe, I think the entire tube is supposed to be given to the ca. 1200-lb. horse at one time. For people, it's based on weight. With me, it's like two notches along that blue stick; snug down the ring, then inject the paste into, say, a slice of toast and peanut butter. I'm not sure how often you should take that dose, but I suspect 2x a day if you're showing symptoms can't hurt.

441 I dunno if horse dosing is the same as the man dosing, but Althouse put some conversion tables up, which is what I used when I was sick (or for some prophylaxis when I was going to be spending lots of time with sick people). Didn't kill me. Might have helped. It sure seemed to help my old man.

IIRC dosing for mammals is pretty consistent in terms of weights, though I'm sure there's variation.

Dosing for reptiles, though-- either the meds themselves aren't as reliable, or they just respond differently-- is more of an art.

I went out to lunch with three married coworkers. After a couple of beers at the local mexican restaurant they started discussing which of the local Asian rub and tugs were best.

444 Lotta Brandon news today.

I remarked yesterday that it's a good thing to remember that corrupt, incompetent, nakedly criminal elites have been reefing Western ships of state since ancient Greece and Republican Rome. Makes this not sting so much.

But one new thing under the sun is modern medical science. At least these people used to just fucking die when they should.

Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at September 06, 2023 04:29 PM (kLcQm)

445 I never knew they had a crossover event. In any case, I don't recall Jim Rockford as being incompetent in any area. He wasn't a super-private eye, he was a guy a little above the average in looks and brains who had learned a trick or two and used them. Some of his techniques for getting info out of people, I've read, are used by real PIs.
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius,

No, Selleck was incompetent. Rockford was competent, unlucky (always getting hit on head and never getting paid) and not so successful in his business.

Selleck was a lucky idiot who everyone loved.

In other words, on the Rockford episodes they had fun with the entire character. In the '80s I recall an X-Men comic in which Kitty Pryde is telling a bedtime pirate story to Peter's little sister, and she casts the X-Men in various roles. (Wolverine was like the Tasmanian Devil in the old WB cartoons: He'd crunch and swallow an entire can of beer and spit the can back out.)

Lawmakers are now able to order beer, wine and liquor for delivery to their offices on Capitol Hill, a service that will likely be heavily used by congressional lushes.

The new service is available through the House’s caterer Sodexo which also operates cafeterias in the Capitol Hill complex housing the privileged and pampered members of America’s political elite and could provide essential relief during late-night legislative sessions.
