Congressmen Seeks to Defund Trump Prosecutors

He would deny both the DOJ and states federal funds if they continue the political prosecutions.

Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., is planning to use the upcoming government spending fight to pump the brakes on the federal and state prosecutions targeting former President Trump.

"Americans' hard-earned tax dollars have no place funding the radical Left's nefarious election interference efforts," Clyde told Fox News Digital. "Together, Jack Smith, Alvin Bragg, and Fani Willis intentionally brought four sham indictments against the sitting president's top political opponent, President Donald J. Trump, as the upcoming 2024 presidential election ramps up."

Clyde is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which has been tasked with assembling 12 different spending bills for the next fiscal year, which begins on Oct. 1.

Republican Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde, right, is unveiling the House GOPs latest push to defund the prosecutions against former President Trump.

He said on Monday that he intends to introduce two amendments to the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, which allocates funding to the Justice Department, among other offices.

Both would prevent federal funds from going toward the prosecution of a major presidential candidate ahead of the 2024 White House race. The first is aimed at federal cases and the second at state prosecutions.

...

If Clyde's amendments make it through the legislative process and end up on the House floor for a vote, they face a decent prospect of passing under the GOP's razor-thin majority. However, the measures are likely dead on arrival in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

Meanwhile, even the leftwing rag The Hill notices how strange a date the leftwing radical judge chose to begin Trump's sham trial for "insurrection."

The judge in former President Trump's Jan. 6-related federal case landed a bombshell Monday when she set a date for his trial.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan announced jury selection in the trial would begin March 4 -- the day before Super Tuesday, the biggest day on the GOP primary calendar.

In making her decision, Chutkan declared that a trial date "cannot and should not" depend on the timetable of a defendant's work life.

Chutkan pushed the starting date later than sought by special counsel Jack Smith and his team, who wanted the trial to begin in January.

But her chosen spot on the calendar is a lot closer to Smith's request than to the Trump team's implausible suggestion that the trial should be postponed until 2026.

It is a remarkable choice, even if Chutkan professes indifference to the political ramifications of her decision. Around 14 states are expected to cast ballots in the GOP primary on Super Tuesday.

GOP figures allied with Trump are indignant.

"I was shocked that they would be this blatant," said one Republican operative supportive of Trump. "On what basis does the trial absolutely need to start the day before Super Tuesday? Are we really supposed to believe that this is just coincidence -- that she didn't take anything about the politics into account?"

One of the things you notice about Rome was the breaking of norms.

The Gracchi introduced mob violence into politics. Before that, a tribune's person was sacrosanct.

Sulla showed how you could simply take over the 'republic' by marching on the city. Even though he tried to set the system back up, stronger, the fact that he had done it and the people had not risen up to stop him showed it could be done.

Then, along comes Caesar...

I think independents, Gen Z, and suburban moms aren't going to vote for Trump. The baggage and drama is building up and I'm seeing that people are getting fatigued.

What might get Trump a win is if there is a 3rd party candidate that would take enough votes away from Biden.

The Zoomers are a crap shoot. Boomers and Gen X will carry Trump, if it happens. Outside of the generational front, it will likely be the working class and non-suburban-female vote that will carry him.

If he wins and can overcome the cheat, of course. I don't think he can. But the wells of support he can tap do not include the Millennials (virtually any of them, and they're an enormous voting bloc), the urbanites, the suburban women, those with a masters degree or higher, blacks and Asians. He'll get some of those groups, of course, but not many.

No federal funds to any state that his filed criminal charges against any leading presidential candidate?

This is like that piddling-ass "we cut $1 billion from the DOJ!" crowing that conveniently left out they just increased the DOJ budget by a billion in 2022.

The GOP has one chance to survive: Trump wins and every lawsuit is tossed out.
Because at least 40% of the base will blame them if he loses.
Deny it and hate it all you want--but the voters get to make their own choices.
And a lot of them are going to see the GOP siding with the Democrats.
Which is pretty rational when you see so many taking the exact same position as the Dems by their silence....

They don't need to. The machinery is as corrupt as the operators. Could they just make up votes or move them around? Probably. But it's technically complicated. It's much easier - especially at scale, and with lots of unsophisticated ground-level operators - to just fill out ballots and run 'em through. If that's not enough, run 'em through again. And again. And so on. The systems are deliberately weak to allow lots of cheating, but the kinds of cheating need to be reproducible by dullards in counting rooms. Duplicate ballot runs would be an example of that. Complex operations like moving votes around in the datavase is not.

Elected officials are part of it... But they are the very most junior, weakest faction on the field. They barely count. A single SV corp like Facebook (not even a big dog like Alphabet) holds more power than Congress or the President.

But somewhere near the top of that oligarchy are the organs of State security. The DoJ is one of the big, swinging dicks in the ruling class cadre. They are a force to be reckoned with, and they don't take static from the PR peons in the Capitol.

I agree. We have to accept that there are just some people who will never vote for Trump.
And it's worth having the fight: Is that group bigger than the group of new voters from 2016 and 2020 that Trump brought and will bring?

I get the tribal preference, that independents, Gen Z, suburban women, educated, etc. are a "better" class of voters than Trump's working class.

But all that doesn't matter: Which group is bigger? Which group will bring in more votes?
E.g., Is 100% of the wine moms more than say, a 5% increase in the working class?

After the Florida debacle in 2000, the Left pointed at Diebold as a bad operator that was corrupting elections in the name of helping the Republicans (that was back when "Big Business" wasn't openly on Team Left). In response, Diebold submitted to audits and full review. Some flaws were found, which they then fixed. No evidence of corruption was found, and the people running the audit campaign had a lot riding on proving corruption. They couldn't.

This argument is made in every single election.

a) the media has been working overtime to make him big and scary, that will only intensify if it looks like he might win the nomination. Very quickly the narrative will turn to "Trump was bad, but DeSantis? He is REALLY BAD!"
and
b) Trump came in to it with near universal name recognition, and with most people either thinking he was great, or at least, harmless. the Media made Trump a "big, scary name" and they will do that to whoever the GOP nominee is. They do it every cycle.

I'm not anti-Desantis, but this line of reasoning is silly.

We have a Republican congress-critter proposing that the House of Representatives exercise the power of the purse to restrain Democrat actions in the purely political prosecutions of President Trump. The Republicans just don't ever use the power of the purse against Democrats for anything. The House is barely Republican majority. There are more than enough Republican congress-critters who reflexively vote with the Democrats on bloody near everything in normal times to kill that idea now. Add in the fact that the GOPe would prefer a Democrat win to a Trump win.

Ain't gonna happen.

Congress can't cancel the election.

As you know, elections are run by the states, not the federal government. And as you further know, there is no Constitutional method for the federal government to cancel an election.

And as you further further know, "shutting down the government" is a pretty big misnomer. Everything continues to run on auto pilot, and they pay cops over time to block the entrances to federal lands and businesses.

But, importantly, nothing new happens. So all the congresscritters in both parties and everyone feeding from the trough can't get their new scams and bribes approved, so it hurts them where it counts -- their wallets.

Obviously the Gadsden flag is a proud symbol of the American revolution and a iconic warning to Britain or any government not to violate the liberties of Americans. It appears on popular American medallions and challenge coins through today and Ben Franklin also adopted it to symbolize the union of the 13 colonies. He was also in an episode of The Twilight Zone. he played a Japanese man who ended up locked in an attic with a WWII veteran who found a Japanese sword in the attic. It turns out that it was gotten through killing a man after he surrendered and it possesses Takei's character to try to get him to kill the other man to avenge the dead Japanese soldier's death. Takei's character had been interred and his father was a traitor who helped the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. There's a scuffle and eventually Takei leaps to his death.

It was an episode with a lot going on, and most people haven't seen it because it is one of the "missing" episodes of the show. It was withheld from syndication until the mid-aughts. Some say it is because of various racial slurs/content (there is some of that), some say it's because it discussed Japanese internment.

411 > Just like the standard, "What crime have I committed?", and "Am I being detained?" that should be asked before giving cops any information.

I appreciate the general sentiment, but I think there's some nuance.

If you're pulled over, politely give them your license and insurance, but don't tell them anything. Not where you're going, not why you might think you've been pulled over, not where you're coming from. Politely decline to answer. Never give permission to search.

If you're carrying, you may be required to inform. If you're not required to inform, say nothing about the weapon unless they order you out of the car. Then I would say something like, "For my safety, I'm informing you I have a license to carry concealed and I am carrying. I will follow your commands." Don't say, "gun."

If a cop orders you to an interview, get a lawyer and have them negotiate for you.

If a cop tells you you're not under investigation, tell them you decline to be interviewed.

Always record if it's legally allowed. Some states have bullshit wiretapping laws that might make it illegal to record with sound under certain circumstances.

Gen-Z is not conservative, but it is uniformly leftist. The anti-leftists are exactly that, but that doesn't make them constitutionalists. They're going to be more likely to back an anticommunist dictator not reinstall some new republic if they win. Think Pinochet, not George Washington.

The Japanese left the USMC with no options (nor the USN). Too many false surrenders or choosing to fight to the last man will have that effect. There were very few Japanese POWs, and a lot of them were taken by force for intelligence purposes.

For the most part, the Japanese just didn't surrender. They'd die to the last man. The Japanese were tough as nails and probably the most difficult enemy this country has ever vanquished.

469 401 I did an early retirement this past July because of my employer's behavior during the last round of COVID and my suspicion that this would be a recurring event. But among my co-workers were several managers who were nearly hysterically attached to masking, vaccines, boosters, distancing. And every one of them, plant manager and HR leader prominent among them, had multiple prolonged COVID absences. Either they were somehow just prone through other factors or just really stuck to the rules, I don't know. But I suspect strongly that most of it was about avoiding the unairconditioned workplace that was running half staffed and some good old- fashioned gold bricking. That is why most people seemed amazingly indifferent to that ridiculous and deliberately oppressive regime.

The episode alluded to a Jap officer being killed after he surrendered to take his sword if I remember right.

A former Navy engineer who helped build the airstrips in the Pacific once told me how Jap prisoners were taken out back and shot then buried with the same bulldozers to get the air strips up and running.

the concept of Hero in Japanese (and Korean) culture is the warrior who fights and stays true to his goals not deviating from his task even to his own death. If you watch Japanese and Korean war movies the leads and their buds all seem to die, every time. Because they are heroes.

A long discussion for this is the book The Chrysanthemum and the Sword, Patterns of Japanese culture which was developed during WWII. I had a copy but I gave it to a Japanese militaria collector who probably kept it on his bedside table
