"Six-Pack Shooter" Shoots Armed Robber Three Times

He never even thinks about setting that six-pack down. He wants to get home to his Stove Top Stuffing as expeditiously as possible.

Corrected: I think he shot at the robber seven times, but only hit him three times.

As you heard, the local prosecutor is of course investigating the shooter to possibly charge him, but the prosecutor makes this sound pro forma, as Michigan permits the use of deadly force to protect another and, of course, the shooter is black.

.380 has a lot of velocity, but not much "stopping power".

I have an old Spanish made .32 caliber ACP, and it looks like a miniature 1911. Nice little shooter, and easy to aim, but has little bitty bullets.

That pistol looks bigger than a .25 semi-auto, but that's what I wondered too. The guy shooting is pretty big, so it's hard to scale the gun in his hand.

I can get .32 ACP rounds at the nearby gun place (Vance's Shooting Grounds in Columbus, three stores), but 50 rounds is about $40, which is way more expensive than 9 mm.

Taurus for awhile was churning out different models trying to get a hit. A fair number of misses and some hits.

Basically Ruger ripped off Keltec's designs when the patents expired and Keltec had that low cost field all to itself for years.

Under Bill Ruger, Ruger did a fair amount of actual new gun designs but the recent management is more me too on whatever they perceive as a viable market. Hope with the Marlin rollout, that will change a bit.

I carried a snubby for years but it does take practice to get trigger control over them to shoot them double action. J Frame S&W are a bit worse than the old Colt D frame but neither will match a tuned K Frame trigger.

I wanted it cuz you can shoot them from the pocket without jamming. You can't do that with an auto. It was for my wife who was working in DC at the time. They are also easy to hide in your car and still be accessible.

There are a few good ones. USCCA has a program, as does U.S. Law Shield (the one I have). There's also CCW Safe, which is a Massad Ayoob product. I did my due diligence and went with U.S. Law Shield. Plus, if you're traveling and call them ahead of time, they'll give you the gun law down-low on whatever states you're traveling through.

I should probably add, none of them are really insurance, strictly speaking, but for covering your legal costs.

POF (Patriot Ordinance Factory) has had a small frame AR in 7.62 for years before Ruger.

Put the two side by side and you can see that Ruger hopped on a market that was already there albeit at a lower price. Ditto with their piston AR first.

They do an ok job but they are not a market leader in innovative gun designs anymore.

You more or less have to do that in self defense cases but you keep it brief. Trying to play coy whether you shot the guy starts you off on a bad foot with teh cops.

Affirmative and justification defenses are much different than a traditional criminal case because the defendant, at first, bears the burden of proof.

I disagree. Reason is YOU HAVE TO ADMIT you shot the guy to use self defense. You will admit it at the time or you will admit it in the future but you will admit it. For all the cops know, it was two robbers falling out and often pissing off the cops at the scene in an affirmative defense leads to them neglecting to gather maybe the box cutter, or secure the tape, etc. or even get witness statements.

Forensics is crucial in self defense cases and some people have went to jail because they did not point out critical evidence or witnesses at the scene that was lost. You make the complaint that the guy threatened you (allowed to do that in defense of others in some states) with a deadly threat, you responded by shooting to end the threat. There are your shell casings, this is your firearm, and that clerk saw the whole thing go down and he was threatened too.

What you don't do is answer specifics like distance, and so on. But by making a brief statement, telling them you will sign a complaint, and so on, you assume the mantle of victim, not suspect.
