Especially given what happened in this fire. In all of the fires I've been through, only two (IIRC) were deadly, and the worst was Storm King down near CO Springs, which ate a *lot* of firefighters and resulted in major changes in how wildfire management and fighting works.
This was such a total disaster, so totally compounded by gross incompetence, that vain politicking is probably particularly stress-inducing and awful.

In a company the exec staff would have a troubleshooter (mid level, no outside visibility, but knows how to get things done) to go and oversee. The problem is that DNC and deep state only have lawyers and grifters. If they need to strip a widow of assets, they have plenty of people but nothing for productive work.

We're not there yet, but it's likely to become a factor. Even if a state as bonkers as Hawaii, I suspect there are levels of failure that will engender significant popular demand for personnel changes. The new people will likely be no better, but I don't see how - even in a place as nutty as Hawaii - there are no consequences for something this bad.

FEMA is not a first responder. Just about every mistake that could have been made was made from city, county, and state Government. I watched a video clip of the Governor this morning and he couldn't even look at the camera squarely - he kept closing his eyes while speaking like a fourth grader trying to remember lines he learned for the school play. While he said that mistakes were made, he still blames climate change for this. POS.

The fire started in several different areas simultaneously.
Most of those areas poor with valuable real estate.
None of the fires came anywhere near the nearby Obama compound and other rich folk domiciles.
The gov't/Our Betters immediately ran in to buy up all the now very valuable empty Maui property.

For reference, Front Street is the road next to the ocean with all the burned out cars on it in the ocean.

These types of fires (low structures, cars) do not incinerate bodies, so there will be an accurate count once they search everything.
People *may* have been in cars hoping the fire would pass over. Or they may have run into ocean but closed doors since it is their car and they hoped it would pass over.

We're not there yet, but it's likely to become a factor. Even if a state as bonkers as Hawaii, I suspect there are levels of failure that will engender significant popular demand for personnel changes. The new people will likely be no better, but I don't see how - even in a place as nutty as Hawaii - there are no consequences for something this bad.

In this case, you could say it was constructive arson. The hillsides had been intentionally planted with a non-native grass to help soil conservation. It would have been fine if it was cut and maintained, but no one in either the power utility or local government saw a reason not to just let it grow huge and dry out. Also, residents of Maui have complained about the poor condition of Maui's power lines for years, warning that they were vulnerable to high winds. Many suggested to the Power Co. that they cut the power while the winds were at their peak - they said "naaahhh." Now it could have been arson, but that entire landscape was one big fireworks warehouse once those winds began blowing.

A while back in the 70s/80s there was a fire chief that was an arsonist. He was first suspected when his route to a fireman conference had a few fires he would set an arranged matchbook that would smoulder. He wrote some books about an arsonist that matched some fires. When he was arrested wildfires in his areas dropped by some two thirds.

That's napalm. It's used all the time to start controlled burns. They burn of sections of the Kennedy Space Center all the time to keep it from getting to where a fire will incinerate everything. A wind blown fire is a very dangerous thing.

Kids rebel and test adults and want freedom, but they trust adults to know what they're doing and to do what's right because the kids know they're still kids. When adults break that trust, even with the rebels that pretend they hate everyone and don't have relationships, it damages the bonds of society.
Kids rely on adults to be adults. It's important for the system to work that way.

In 1937 the Ohio River flooded and the tributary creeks backfilled and flooded Crosley field over the outfield wall. A trio of players rowed a boat over the wall and got some soundings over home plate. I forget how deep it was, some 20 feet?

I'm at a higher elevation now than I was in Ohio and Chicago and I'm maybe 20 minutes to the ocean over a small range. There's some hard walking to get to the top of my ridge to the next valley and they go inland from there.
If you are familiar with the Blue Ridge and lower parallel ridges on either side in the East, its a similar thing.
