Munchin' Beaver Cafe

larkspurcoloradobymichaelrynophotography.jpg
Larkspur, Colorado

Dogs make any situation a happy one. These baby goats agree. Just touching a dog makes you happy. Even if you're another dog.

This gang of sheep doesn't tolerate disrespect.

Sith dog.

Patty cake.

Run silent, run duck.

World's only spotless giraffe born in Tennessee zoo.

He just looks like a lanky horse.

Actress in the series Succession hospitalized after being attacked by a gang of otters.

Was she attacked by kindly sea otters or evil, thuggish river otters? Let's read and find out.

Crystal Finn, who appeared on Season 4 of the HBO drama Succession as producer Lauren Pawson at Roy-controlled news network ATN, opened up about being attacked by a group of otters...

"I felt something on my backside and on my leg," Finn told the San Francisco Chronicle in an interview published Wednesday. "I started looking around and yelling out and [the otters] popped up right in front of me. Then they dove down and started going at me again."

Finn said there were three otters in total. She was eventually able to swim to safety on a nearby rock, but not before they had done their damage.

"I could see the bites on my legs and knew I had been bitten on my butt -- that one was the worst, but I couldn't see it," she explained. "The bites really hurt."

The actress said she hadn't seen the critters before getting into the water, but even if she had, it probably wouldn't have changed anything.

"If I had seen them, I don't think it would have given me pause," she admitted. "I would have thought, 'Oh those cute river otters.'"

This occurred in the Feather River in Northern California. I deleted an early reference to that to keep the suspense going for longer.

Manatee's best friend.

Real life Spider-Man action.

Guy is attempting to kill himself but fortunately fails.

Some nice clips of gray, rainy Scotland.

A sculpture made of thousands of sheets of paper. Tricky!

Just terrific legs and haunches.

More Norway here.

98 To be fair, the vast majority — 77 percent — of the attacks the researchers analyzed involved North American river otters, and none appear to have involved sea otters.

What?
Are they saying 77% were north American river otters, the rest non-NA river otters, and 0% sea otters?
Confusing conflation of categories.

Re sunsets. One of the most elusive things is the "Green Flash", which will happen at sunrise or sunset when the upper limb of the Sun is just a smidge over the horizon.

You need a distant, flat horizon to see this, and conditions have to be just right. Here's a video from Aruba in 2020 that captured the Green Flash perfectly:

121 I really despise the Twitter Anime Police, TwAP, minions.

One of these incel mouth breathers had nothing better to do than dig through a mangaka's online history to find from years and years ago a piece of art that it found offensive.

As a result, this Japanese artist has deleted her Twitter account and is basically erasing her online presence. As Rev Says Desu has commented, these anime tourists are ultra Puritans.

Personal experience from attending cons and being friends with artists, if you offer enough money the artists will draw your request because they need the money. So Rule 34 is on the table when it comes to this stuff.

If this offends you, then don't stick around and complain. Go somewhere else and thus skip being such an attention whoring drama queen.

Posted by: Dr. Bone at August 22, 2023 08:15 PM (fY84s)

In backgammon, if house rules allow, a person who accepts a double, can redouble immediately (while still retaining the cube). This is called a beaver.
The opposing player can immediately turn the cube again. This is called a raccoon.
Subsequent to this, the beavering player can AGAIN double. This is called an otter.

(Sometimes an otter is termed an aardvark, but that is fucked in the head.)

So the cube can go, theoretically in one play, from 1 to 2 (double)
2 to 4 (beaver)
4 to 8 (raccoon)
,8 to 16 (otter).

285 I'll just say I disagree.

I don't feel like Russia's economy is "in tatters", despite all of our blustery statements about how we would isolate them and make them an international pariah.

It appears, to the uneducated folks like me, that Russia has managed to come out stronger, even with the west freezing $200-300 billion in dollar reserve currency.

287 Russia's wealth gains came despite its invasion of Ukraine in February, which has led to the West imposing sanctions on the Kremlin that led to its economy shrinking and triggered a slump for Moscow-listed stocks.

That doesn't sound like they're prospering.

UBS acknowledges that "wealth trends in Russia are difficult to determine at this time," but did highlight it as one of a handful of countries that had gotten richer in 2022.

So, which is it? Do they know or not? My guess is that there are individuals who got richer, but the overall Russian economy is losing huge amounts of money and especially their most highly skilled workers, who have left the country.

Rising oil prices could be one factor behind the wealth increase, with exports of the commodity a key economic engine for Russia. The cost of a barrel of benchmark Urals crude jumped by about $7 last year, data from Refinitiv indicated.

That's the benchmark. The oil they're selling to India and China is discounted by 40%. The real issue is how much revenue they're losing.
