Welcome to the City of Goodhue, Minnesota, a "community" city

I've spent some time in the land of Mud Ducks Minnesota. However, I have never spent any time in the city of Goodhue, MN.

It doesn't look like any police officers will be spending any time there either.

Goodhue, Minnesota, a small city in the southeastern part of the state, lost its entire police force after the chief and other members of the department handed in their resignation.

"I think we're all a little bit blindsided by it, but we're resilient, and we're going to move forward," Goodhue Mayor Ellen Anderson Buck told Fox 9.

"I want to reiterate that we will have police coverage in the city of Goodhue," Buck said. "That is not an issue."

How does an entire police force including the chief resign and you are "blindsided"? Per the 2020 census the city had a population of 1,243. Talk about not knowing the pulse of your community.

Oh the city will have law enforcement. Some Goodhue County cop will roll through about three times per day unless there is some special bakery shop in town.

14 Woefully scant on details, but sounds good to me. A town of that size doesn't need a police force. They're just a ticket-generating shakedown machine. The town nearest to my residence, a bit bigger than Goodhue, has no police force and has one sheriff's deputy in a substation. That's quite adequate.

But maybe Minnesotans need the firm hand of Johnny Law, who knows?

Or leave the state/county out of the process altogether.

Community can look out for itself, and hire its own security that answers to them. No middlemen, you work for the people, and they can fire your arse if you don't treat them justly.

40 > A "city" of twelve hundred people has a police force. Really?
____________

I've posted this before;

Here outside of the nearest "town" which has about 8000 people in it, we have a police force of about 15. Seems... reasonable, no? Yet, we have the first "in the state Narcan vending machine." OK... why? Are that many strung out addicts in a town of 8000? No, of course not. But, it brings in additional $$ from the state and feds.

And... the state trooper who used to live in the development down the road? He was parking in the Catholic church parking lot, in a bend in the road, and handing out speeding tickets to his neighbors.

He's gone. No, I don't wonder why.

And the 15 cops for the burb? They're afraid to venture out into the "rural" landscape. No, I don't wonder why.

Yep a literal crap ton of information about this story is deliberately being withheld for some reason. I have generally found that when that occurs it is because some liberal policy has caused the problem. Not saying that is true 100% of the time, but in the vast majority of these cases the lack of basic information in a story like this is a deliberate act by liberal actors.

97 I lived in a northern Minnesota village, population 1100. You'd be surprised at the things that happened. The mayor of my village embezzled a bunch of city funds and ended up in prison for 2 years. And we haven't even gotten to the bars and who was sleeping with who. On the other hand, I'm benefited greatly from the the village and county student work programs during the summer. The guy that managed my crew was from my hometown and he made sure all those other Long A - rabs from the next village over actually had to work all summer. My guy told us to bring swimsuits a couple times a week and he would then dump us off at the lake each day with instructions to do something. So an entire police force walking off the job in Minnesota village sounds like something that could happen in a heartbeat in a lot of small villages around Minnesota.

That is what they had, a full time police chief, one full time officer, and five part time officers.

They all quit over money. The chief could not find any officers at the pay rate they were offered. There are lots of openings In bigger departments. He went to the council in June. They said, "Yeah, You betcha," and went back ignoring him.

152 Happened to a town here in Coloradifornia, about the same population. Police chief got caught covering up a tape of one of his underlings abusing his (the underling's) daughter. That town cleaned house; now the cop shop is a robotics workshop for the local kids.

Sheriff provides coverage, and it's all good.

In contrast, in my crappy town, it takes 4 of the local piggies to pull over an elderly gentleman for a traffic ticket. It's not uncommon to see 4 (brand-new) cop SUVs in a 10 block drive down main street. On a Sunday morning.

My town spent a fortune about 10 years ago building a futuristic-looking cop shop, but I guess there wasn't enough room for suspect-beating anymore, because they just broke ground on a newer model last week.

They do love them some policing here.

170 Governor Newsom’s Right to Safety Resolution Calling for a Constitutional Amendment Introduced in California Legislature
Aug 14, 2023 tinyurl.com/mr4a4dhy

Governor Newsom’s proposal for a Right to Safety – an amendment to the United States Constitution to ensure the people’s elected representatives can determine what gun safety laws are appropriate for their communities and to enshrine fundamental, broadly supported gun safety measures into law.

The Right to Safety Amendment will raise the minimum age to buy a gun from 18 to 21, mandate universal background checks, institute a waiting period for all gun purchases, and ban assault rifles for civilians – while leaving the Second Amendment intact. Additionally, the Right to Safety will affirm Congress, states, and local governments can enact common-sense gun safety laws that save lives.

Senator Wahab and Assemblymember Jones-Sawyer introduced Senate Joint Resolution 7 in the California State Senate, which is the first step to adoption of a Constitutional amendment. The joint resolution calls for a convention, also known as an Article V Convention or amendatory convention – one method for proposing amendments to the US Constitution.

Was it "stalk" stalk, or just the kind where an ex DMs you on social media one time too many.

Stalking used to be awesome, you'd follow some chick everywhere she goes, hang out by her window, wait for her to get ready for bed, then call her from the pay phone down the street.

Nowadays you can't even hit like on her Instagram post, and she's getting a restraining order against you.

283 Yup, changing the Constitution.
Posted by: AZ deplorable moron

Via the amendment process--one route is Congress with 2/3rds of each house and then sent to the states for ratification with 3/4ths required (38 currently). Congress can choose either ratification by state legislatures or constitutional conventions in each state (only Prohibition was passed this way).

The other way leaves out Congress in a meaningful way as when 2/3rds of the states petition Congress for a Convention, it must set the time and date for it and any amendment drafted by a majority of state delegations at that Convention then go to the states for ratification--requiring again 3/4 of the states.

The Convention of the States itself does not change the Constitution, only the ratification of 3/4s of the states does.

Oh yeah, if an Art V convention actually happened, it would be horrendously frightening. All of our natural rights would be on the chopping block, to be replaced with prog "positive rights". We'd end up with the Soviet Constitution.

But as crazy as things are right now, I don't think it would happen. They don't really need to, tbh. They just do what they want, anyway, whether it's codified in law or not.

Why, in some cities, entire gangs of shoplifters have driven out ALL the business in the center of the city and the police are not allowed to even notice (which then causes the business loans to go underwater and a depression to start).

When the SCOTUS wipes out affirmative action, the blue states will have no choice because money goes to each individual aggrieved.

Not that they won't try. Just like they are going to be cute with the college admission's process, and end up getting slapped with disparate impact lawsuits, or everyone agreeing Griggs vs Duke Power is over - including disparate impact lawsuits - which eliminates the hammer the wokester types use to shake down corporate America. Every little town up there has a small but militarized police force. If you get in some fecal matter … the neighboring cops, County Sheriff’s Department and State Police will arrive en masse. Northern Minnesota communities have been ravaged by the scourge of meth. Bad. Beautiful country & broads however.
