Taxpayer-Funded, Government-Authorized "Researchers" Are Devising Fresh New Schemes to Censor the Right -- and Hiding That Censorship From Us, So That We Cannot Complain

Might as well enjoy your next several years of censorship -- you're paying for it.

'Virality Circuit Breakers:' Taxpayer-funded researchers devise new stealth censorship strategies

Taxpayer and billionaire-backed researchers admit new techniques could allow Big Tech to minimize "public relations challenges" from direct removal of social posts.

Note that "researchers" here is a euphemism. Matt Taibbi has demonstrated ably that most people calling themselves "researchers" into "misinformation" were simply noisy and underemployed and unaccomplished leftwing Twitter addicts who one day decided to claim they were "misinformation researchers" in their Twitter bio and poof, just like that, they were.

A digital free-speech watchdog is warning that federally funded researchers have captured and examined millions of Twitter posts they deemed to be "misinformation" during the 2020 election and used them to devise new strategies that one day could empower Big Tech to censor or throttle content while keeping the affected users and the public in the dark.

The Foundation for Freedom Online says the work done last year by members of the University of Washington Center for an Informed Public after receiving taxpayer grants devised new strategies like "virality circuit breakers" and "nudges" that could prevent certain users from spreading content without any apparent evidence they were being censored.

The study is a roadmap on "how to censor people using secret methods so that they wouldn't know they're being censored, so that it wouldn't generate an outrage cycle, and so that it'd be more palatable for the tech platforms who wouldn't get blowback because people wouldn't know they're being censored," Mike Benz, a former State Department diplomat specializing in U.S. foreign policy on international communications and information technology matters told the "Just the News, No Noise" television show Monday night.

Much of the academic research was published in a little-noticed article published last summer in the journal Nature Human Behavior entitled "Combining interventions to reduce the spread of viral misinformation" that identified a cocktail of four tools that the researchers projected could reduce the spread of content deemed misinformation by as much as 63% without direct removal of posts or time-consuming fact checks.

"Fact" checks are already a sham -- claims aren't being checked against facts, but instead the opinions of a Consensus of Establishment Liberals.

And now they say, even that's too much work -- we want to just suppress this speech as "misinformation" without even having to pay some leftwing college-educated-but-failed-career idiot to make up a reason why it's "misinformation."

The researchers -- who included the University of Washington's Jevin D. West and Kate Starbird -- acknowledged the new tactics like "virality circuit breakers" were less detectable to users and the public and therefore could spare social media giants the public outcries that occurred in 2020 when stories like the Hunter Biden laptop were publicly removed from platforms.

"This approach allows platforms to consider ethical ramifications while minimizing the public relations challenges accompanying direct forms of action," they wrote.

The government extracts money from you at gunpoint and then gives it to thugs to slander, silence, and humiliate you.

28 As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.

The left consistently believes that they can remake reality--they can't no more than they can remake males into females or vice versa.

What happens is that censorship eliminates the feedback mechanism to government and subsequently forces samizdat information flow among the population. As the lies accumulate, no one believes much of anything and that corrosion brings down the regime. Orwell never got to that part of the story of totalitarianism. Downfall.

Read an article today about a research team that can identify what you’re typing based on the sound a keyboard makes. They claim 95% success.

So this means hackers can now steal your passwords or any confidential data, by just listening to you as you type. And they can hack into your computer mic to do it. Or hack into your phone’s mic to listen in.

The world gets worse and worse.
Posted by: Montec
----------
Depends on the type of keyboard, the quality of the microphone, and so on. The exploit is not as easy to use as the reports make it out to be.

For Fedgov, easier to just tap into your bluetooth or RFI emissions if they don't put a backdoor with a key logger anyway.

I think ace should institute a Commenting Credit Score.

Each registered commenter is allotted 20 positive votes and 10 negative votes each week. These votes must all be used, or they will all be counted as negative votes against your own account.

When your aggregate net commenting score reaches (-20) your account is suspended for a week.

I type this knowing I would be almost constantly suspended personally, most days for as little as one comment, but it's the only way I know to ensure thoughtful, intelligent commenting.

It has been reported that on Sunday, August 6, a total of 25,000 wheels of Grana Padano cheese fell in the warehouse of a cheese factory in Romano di Lombardia, Bergamo, crushing the owner, 75-year-old farmer Giacomo Chiapparini. The tragic incident unfolded due to the shelving collapse, though the actual causes remain unknown, according to Il Corriere della Citta.

167 Deer droppings found in ready-to-eat salads
https://tinyurl.com/3vvfkfk8

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert saying some fresh, ready-to-eat items could contain deer droppings.
The salads and wraps with meat and poultry may have contaminated lettuce, the FSIS said, explaining that they “may be contaminated with deer feces” and encouraging the public not to eat them.
The establishment number “P-45091” or “Est. 45091” can be found on the items’ front label, officials said. They were made on August 1 and 2, 2023
The products were shipped to retail locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

183 Supreme Court revives Biden’s ghost gun restrictions
by: Zach Schonfeld, The Hill
Posted: Aug 8, 2023 / 10:20 AM PDT

(The Hill)- The Supreme Court revived the Biden administration’s restrictions on so-called ghost guns in a 5-4 emergency ruling on Tuesday.
The justices agreed to pause a lower court’s decision, which invalidated the regulation nationwide, as the administration continues its appeal.
The decision hands a victory to Biden, at least for now. Biden last year announced the crackdown on ghost guns, referring to firearms that are sold as do-it-yourself kits and are generally hard to trace.
Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the court’s three liberals in temporarily reviving the restrictions. Conservative Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh dissented.

Voting still makes sense in part as a delaying action as it is relatively cheap and it is very important to not have leftists in charge of your local and or state governments if everything goes to hell. Make your local community better and so on. Even holding the House is worthwhile because it forces the Dems to rub people's noses in their executive orders and allows court challenges, etc. to their diktats.

They don't have time on their side anymore which is why they are in overdrive because the impending financial crash of the US fisc is going to gut the national govt and its ability to buy votes.

When evaluating intel techniques, you have the File 13 problem. The successes are bruited about because they get you more money in your budget, the failures are shoved into the garbage can.

Essentially, Fedgov intel and counter intel are terribly near sighted--they can focus on an individual or a particular organization with massive resources like Trump and his people but that means the rest of it is blurry. The reason is that too much information is out there and you get the needle in the haystack problem--too many false indicators.

Intel is lousy with predictions but decent in explaining what happened after it happened.

America is an idea and as such doesn't die. Regimes (that is the current power structure) can and do die with regularity and sometimes the people in them do as well. I grew up about twenty miles from a SAC base during the Cold War and pretty much figured if the balloon went up, bad things would happen. Same today--but to paraphrase Churchill, a master historian, 'nations that go down fighting can rise again--nations that surrender don't.' A while back a child sexual abuse ring was discovered in Belgium.

The nominal ring leader was some unemployed guy with little money, no formal job, and supposedly no connections.

After being arrested he claimed that he was providing kids to the elites in Belgium. Instead of investigating the Belgian government locked him solitary and banned the press from talking to him.

I suspect the Epstein type thing has been around for a while. Though, amusingly normalizing pedophilia will take away the value in this sort of operation for the elites.

The difference is that economies and people in them were more self reliant back then. Essentially, the US doesn't make very much anymore and relies on trading to places like the Far East to make things. Global chains of parts make even US production fragile to disruption. Covid proved that. Now, picture nothing to buy with a currency collapse because even those factories that make things cannot get the critical parts to keep the machines rolling or to sell the goods. Transportation becomes paralyzed due to lack of orders and cities become feral dangerous places due to widespread looting and worse.

Simply put, imagine something like Covid lockdowns but having to barter for food.

Mostly as a way to dirty up individuals and to use certain individuals as causes beli to open investigations.

DHS has allowed around 100k unaccompanied minors into the country over the last 2 plus years.

We may not hold together as a nation, then again we might. What I do think is that there will be a substantial change in how we are governed, for better or worse, but that is primarily going to happen at the national level with islands of stability in local and state regions. Cities and suburbs though may become battlegrounds for massive crime and disorder at the least.

The cultural and political elites are certainly in on it. Perhaps they always have been to an extent, but they feel emboldened by how easily they have been able to assert their control lately. They've stopped putting much effort into trying to hide it, and are openly trying to normalize it.
