THE MORNING RANT: Incentivizing Woke Activists to Self-Deport from Conservative States and Institutions
An important way to fight back locally against woke leftists is to create an environment they find so intolerable that they voluntary self-deport from that institution or locality. And by “intolerable” I simply mean that they are not provided a venue to advance their agenda, and that their tantrums do not get rewarded. There is actually some good news on this front, including at public universities in the red states of Florida and Texas. New College of Florida is a fascinating test case of conservatives trying to re-capture a university and mold it back into a classically liberal academy where traditional post-secondary education occurs without propaganda or indoctrination. The intolerant left cannot tolerate this development, therefore much of the faculty is departing. Some of those were retirements or sabbaticals that were planned long before the school made national headlines in January, when Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed six trustees with a mission to transform the small liberal arts school. But many are teachers and researchers who — frustrated and dismayed by the school’s new leadership — saw no other option but to resign or take leave to look for opportunities elsewhere.One of those six trustees appointed by Ron DeSantis is Christopher Rufo, whose efforts are paying off.

During her time there [at UT-Austin], she was part of the Council for Racial and Ethnic Equity and Diversity (CREED). According to their website, CREED advocates for equity-based hiring practices and distributes anti-racism “resources.”The problem with her hiring wasn’t just that that she is radically left-wing. An even bigger problem was that she is opposed to journalism itself. She believes the role of a “journalist” is not to cover stories objectively. The following quote is from an interview she had with NPR.
“We can’t just give people a set of facts anymore. I think we know that and we have to tell our students that. In the days after the signing ceremony, she said, A&M employees told her an increasingly vocal network of constituents within the system were expressing issues with her experience at the Times and with her work on race and diversity in newsrooms, McElroy said.“…a vocal network of constituents within the system…” Heh. Might those constituents be taxpayers, alumni, and Regents, as well as the politicians who are accountable to Texas voters? But leftists never stop pushing, so the administrators tried to find a way to bring McElroy on board without the consent of the Regents.
Behind the scenes, A&M spent weeks altering the terms of her job. After hearing about the concerns, McElroy agreed to a five-year contract position without tenure, which would have avoided a review by regents.The “constituents” did not like that evasive action.
On Sunday, she received a third offer, this time with a one-year contract and emphasizing that the appointment was at will and that she could be terminated at any time. She has rejected the offer…The story gets better, though, because the actions of those trying to hire her ultimately cost them their jobs too. I’m only half-joking that the cost of organic food is like a poll tax, in that it serves to keep minorities out of grocery stores favored by affluent whites. But since organic food is not going to be banned, how about going to the other extreme – place a stiff “luxury tax” on organic food. Maybe fewer New Yorkers would move to Nashville if they found themselves having to pay an extra $10 per package of organic arugula. Also, for all the criticism of sales taxes being regressive, my proposed organic foods tax would be nice and progressive.Or how about red states slapping a $20,000 per unit Road Tax on every electric vehicle sold. Leftists proclaim to love taxes on the affluent, and they also love EVs. They can either pony up the money to pay for the EV tax, or they can relocate to a blue state.
There is a mass exodus. Los Angeles County lost 16,000 Asian children aged 0 to 4 from 2020 to 2022, or 22% of Asian children in that age bracket. King’s County New York (Brooklyn) saw a similar percentage loss of Asian children aged 0 to 4. All those Asian children left because their parents felt the desire, or need, to get out. There are many important patterns and migrations going on across this country that do not receive much attention, including this one. There are no conservative institutions. New College is something of a lab experiment in top-down institutional takeover, and we'll see if it works. I doubt it. The next guy will compromise on something and the process will begin anew, just with a much shorter timeline.

Damn straight. If they propose gun control legislation, propose mandatory gun ownership - state-subsidized - for all citizens over the age of 18. Push it forward until they quit. Depending on the political environment, keep pushing it if you can get away with it.
Rinse and repeat for *everything.* If they propose a new tax, push for a tax cut. If they propose a new department or a major expansion, enter counter legislation to shrink the department by 50% for the next 25 years. Hit back. Every time. And while you're not hitting back, go achieve your agenda.

At the local University where I don't teach anymore except for when I need bier money, they really stepped on their crank about 5 years ago with a mandatory introduction to feminism for all incoming freshman males. Some of what was required was really just humiliating.
I made a comment about it to one of the faculty who laughed, agreed, and said to keep my voice down.
Then the parents found out and the poo-poo hit the oscillating air displacement system. The following year, the number of non-returning sophomores doubled and almost all of them were men.
The parents, paying thousands of $$$, were pissed!
The result was a RIF of over 40 personnel.

The American Community Survey (ACS), probably. The ACS is run by the Census Bureau in various off-years, and the try to do large sampling in urban areas in particular to track changes more granularly than every 10 years.

The article just says "Analysis of US Census Data," so I dunno. But my immediate guess would be ACS. On the Census Bureau website, I can find complete ACS data for Los Angeles County as of 2021, so there is either *also* another data source (CA keeps very robust and complete demographic information, too) or they're extrapolating. If extrapolation, it is likely using *only* ACS data, or else they are being statistically unsound.

The American Community Survey (ACS), probably. The ACS is run by the Census Bureau in various off-years, and the try to do large sampling in urban areas in particular to track changes more granularly than every 10 years.

The article just says "Analysis of US Census Data," so I dunno. But my immediate guess would be ACS. On the Census Bureau website, I can find complete ACS data for Los Angeles County as of 2021, so there is either *also* another data source (CA keeps very robust and complete demographic information, too) or they're extrapolating. If extrapolation, it is likely using *only* ACS data, or else they are being statistically unsound.

We were giving her maxxed out language pay and when I retired she was just waiting for her background check to be approved so she could put in for officer.

My alma mater, by the way, is doomed. It is like most colleges, especially the small private colleges. The endowment can support the school for about 18 months (three semesters). Costs are out of control, enrollment is flat, and outside of their three reputable programs and one nearly-reputable program, it's rightly gaining the reputation of being a bullshit school.
It has almost no margin of error and facing giant headwinds with a lot of debt related to the campus refurb/build-out that made it really really nice but did nothing for academics as the school shifted harder and harder into total insanity. When it goes, I will not weep.

Just before I retired I was able to attend a small reception and talk by Amb Vernon Walters, former ambassador to West Germany and a retired Army 3 star. Also, he was Eisenhower's personal interpreter.
Damn! What a fascinating guy. He was pushing 80 then and I watched him take questions in five different languages and answer flawlessly in each one.
And a real gentlemen as well. He saw us in uniform and made sure he spent an extra 15 minutes with us.

Divine Mercy College is where you can get a Master in Psychology and not have to sign on to the "mutilate all the kidz!" program.
You don't have to be Catholic to attend any of these places and the student can certainly opt out of any classes that offer religious instruction.

The 10-15% of employees that are sane are just hoovering up paychecks and trying to figure out how long it's going to take for the whole thing to crash and burn. You can't stay in business paying salaries like this if a quarter of your people are out a quarter of the time on account of "mental health".

Re Asian children: Nice try, Buck, but I think there's more to the story than that. While it is possible that the parents of those kids have fled those locations, you overlook that the snapshots of April 2020 and July 2022 conceal that a good chunk of those kids have aged out of the 0-4 age range. The numbers indicate that they have not been replaced by younger siblings, not necessarily that their parents have left the areas measured.
While I do think that there is a component of Asian flight, I think you need to do some deeper digging here.

My side hustle is so deeply concerned at how many kids lose access to food over the summer when they aren’t in school -
Hear the same thing in the town I live in in southern NH. Food insecurity. Food pantries are available which require little ambition and you can hit them all and be fine.
If the parents aren't truly able to feed them, put the kids into state custody then.

Here is something not widely understood: most asians here that are immediately from/whose parents are immediately from overseas, hate blacks and gays with a passion.
What you're seeing is (1) for some reason they're gullible enough to be convinced that there is some huge pool of righties that hate *them*, or (2) they're just currying favor with who actually runs bartertown. So they jump on that whole bandwagon.
I see #1 more commonly in second generation groups under 35 or so. It was beaten into them in school just like everyone else, so they believe it. The older crowd is just going with the flow.

I have advocated for a peaceful split of the country for over a decade now. It’s never going to happen but I think we could do it geographically over a 10 year transition period where people could relocate to their preferred country during that time .

It's pretty hard to go hungry in this country. Neighbor volunteers at her church food bank, which has a monthly give away. She always brings back a bunch of stuff to share with the neighbors. One day I asked her what she was doing there. She said the past two months, working the phone. Not taking calls but calling people "please come and get this stuff". They were hit hard during the first part of chink flu, and then the extra unemployment money started rolling in.

If you took out like 5-8 urban cities, the US as a whole would be overwhelmingly conservative.
I would just love some sort of split from the coastal enclaves.

Also, it's not really hard to step to Woke Inc because it's a paper tiger, it's just something that people need some motivation to do. That motivation was not there when times were good, everyone had jobs and lots of affordable toys, etc. but obviously things are changing.

Don't shoot me but I actually prefer my berries organic. They have a really thin skin which won't take much to let pesticides through and I find they taste better organic. My revelation was buying organic blueberries from Costco. They were actually bigger than the regular ones, more 'crisp', lasted longer (counterintuitive), and tasted better then the previous regular non-organic Costco ones we had just finished. Next time I went I looked closely and they were definitely bigger and looked better than the regular ones.
