His claim was that only about 1/4 of infantrymen in combat ever fired their weapons, but it was based on a handful of interviews that didn't capture much of a representative sample, and he didn't publish it until several years after WWII was over. The big missing piece of context was that a whole lot of them didn't have anything to shoot at, but if they did, they were certainly willing to.

Given her preferences, I imagine not. But this is also the lesson of the Trump era, which was only emphasized by four years of Biden. Interesting article online. If you ever read Jim Cirrillo's Stakeout Squad stories, you find that the people lasting in the Stakeout Squad have very similar attributes to yours and Horner's list. The Stakeout Squad was used by NYPD during the 70's to combat the extraordinary increase in armed robberies there and they literally sat in the hides waiting for the criminals to appear.
Program was ended despite success in vastly reducing armed robberies in the city because a demographic of the people being shot was not politically sustainable by NYC.

With regard to "not having targets to shoot", bear two things in mind. Suppressive fire and establishing fire superiority both mean a preponderance of fire not directed at an enemy target, but a known or suspected enemy position. E.g. a stout tree. So you fire and both sides of the base of the tree, with the intent of kicking up dirt or making wood chips fly, then move to the next tree or big rock.
"Killers" often create their own opportunities for targets. A lot of times, personal risk assessment calculus comes into play: stay put (no targets), low crawl to that tree (see some low value targets), do a series of 3 second rushes to that rock (high value target or lots of low value targets), with staying put being safest, low crawling being a bit more risky, and the 3 sec rushes being most dangerous. This comes down to, in my experience, the 'intelligence" of the soldier (largely measured in situational awareness and rapid and correct assessment/decision making), coupled with the self-confidence to have initiative. I started as a Filler and was elevated to a Killer during an assessment course right after Jump School.

Doing well! Have lost 75 pounds since September, was recently diagnosed with Lipedema (which explains my lifelong fat legs), and am currently taking steps to have surgery to remove a LOT of the excess fat cells caused by the Lipedema. That will occur over the course of a year, I will be traveling to California to have it done, and there is a very good chance that my insurance company will pay for it!
I've been busy lining up all of my ducks in a row, so I haven't been commenting here very much. But I still take time to follow everything that's going on with everyone here. Looming forward to seeing everyone in Corsicana in October 😊❤️

It has passed out of the realm of reasonable peaceful coexistence already, between the rhetoric, the crime, the .gov abuses, and the deliberate enabling/release of criminals.
Many don't know it yet but it is what it is. When the dam breaks it will be incredibly violent.
FBI stats are fudged hard, a majority of "white" violent crime isn't white. And thats on top of the black male lifetime odds of being a murderer being about 1 in 20, IIRC, prior to properly factoring out repeat offenders. Which is fucking insane.

Most water systems have to issue quality reports now and again but watch for massive increases in water and or other public utility rates as that generally means money is being siphoned off to fund other issues.

St. Louis City is an interesting case study. The city's elites, in the 19th century decided the city didn't need all those country folk cluttering up their shiny new thing, so they basically made the city its own jurisdiction, independent on the county in which it is encased.
Fast forward to now, the city remains a tiny geographical region inside a large county, and since the city never expanded to incorporate other population pockets around it, the city's crime stats look horrible.
But if you included some of the county, St. Louis is no worse than other shitty cities, and better than many.

That was the closest time I came to getting shocked when doing some electrical work was installing a dishwasher for the inlaws where someone had used the bare ground wire as a supply line for some reason. Made a nice kaboom, sparks, and left a nasty mark on my needlenose pliers.
Now I am extremely paranoid about checking every wire with a non contact voltage tester and then a contact one to ensure every dadgum wire is dead.

The St. Louis elites blocked making the city a railroad hub (it's the obvious natural place geographically) because they didn't want all those smelly stockyards, etc. Instead, the railroads went to Chicago.

Even the best leader can't elevate everyone and the effort required limits a low-level leader to focusing on promising prospects among the Fillers and just letting the few Fodders who see the Light to self-elevate.
I assessed subordinates (mine and others) my entire career and made decisions/recommendations about assignments. As a squad leader or anti-tank section leader, it was about balancing Killers, Fillers, and Fodder and making my cases on soldiers was good enough and I saw in each case improvement.
So, going back to Horner's paper, which is a good summation, I think, I am concerned with the characteristics of "Killers" being taught to our youth as negative traits. My contribution to society is Son was raised to be a Killer (as it serves one well in civilian life) and am continuing that with GStE (almost a teen now).

I wired up another workshop out here last summer for 120 with a couple of 220 circuits for welders. All the knowledge to do this has been in my head for so many years I don't think about it much anymore but you better believe I'm damn careful about checking a wire before I grab it. When in doubt, shut the whole panel down.

If'n it's water supply, I use copper, solder, and sweat.
In my house, for drain, it's either PVC and cement or 4" bronze and if you can actually cross-thread that, you should apply for being the new Gorilla Pundit!
When I was in college, rest of the family was on vaca and I was working a summer job at the salt mine for tuition and the bath drain stopped up. Took home some sulfuric acid drain opener from work. Too many sisters and the drain line was clogged with hair. Acid made a nice gel plug and etched the bathtub. Drain pipes were 3 inch bronze steam pipes rated at 300 PSI. Could not budge with a 12" pipe wrench and a drilling hammer persuader. Neighbor was a WW II vet with a shop from the 19th century - saws, boring machines, shapers driven by overhead leather belts. Got me a pipe wrench. I'm 6' 2" and setting the jaws on the ground, the handle reached my shoulders. Easy peasy! Your hands aren't strong enough to cross thread that crap! Same-same with 4" or 6" cast iron (my main drain lines).
