Oakland NAACP Blasts City Leadership, Calls for a State of Emergency and Action on Rampant Violent Crime

Even the stupidest can be mugged, beaten, and left for dead by reality.

The Oakland NAACP urged city officials to declare a state of emergency over what the organization called an "intolerable public safety crisis."
In a letter released Thursday, Oakland Branch President Cynthia Adams and Bishop Bob Jackson of Acts Full Gospel Church in East Oakland called on public officials to marshal resources to confront the barrage of public safety issues -- including highway shootings, home invasions and killings -- that have become a "pervasive fixture of life in Oakland."
"There is nothing compassionate or progressive about allowing criminal behavior to fester and rob Oakland residents of their basic rights to public safety," they wrote. "It is not racist or unkind to want to be safe from crime. No one should live in fear in our city."
Adams told the Chronicle Friday that NAACP leaders in Oakland were troubled that "everyone was being quiet" about issues that were escalating in Oakland. NAACP members, she said, were frustrated by city officials' repeated assurances that crime would "get better."
"Everything broke the camel's back," said Adams. "Lifetime members -- seniors -- were saying, 'Why is no one saying anything?' They are afraid."

With all respect, NAACP, why do you think people are "being quiet" about crime? Do you think maybe that has something to do with a long campaign by black grifter leaders to scream that anyone who doesn't want to get mugged, raped, carjacked or murdered while walking on the street is a "racist"?

The letter arrived at a time where the city is struggling to catch up with crime sprees that have intensified in recent months. North Oakland has seen a 22% increase in robberies over last year and an 18% increase in violent crime.
Law enforcement officials say they're overwhelmed and strapped for resources, noting that officers witnessed 100 robberies in a single week by alleged perpetrators who are sometimes as young as 12 years old.

Gee I wonder why law enforcement doesn't have enough manpower or money to do their jobs.

This kind of fear-mongering does nothing but perpetuate the conditions that lead to crime. As Black community leaders know, the root cause of most crime is poverty or other forms of oppression. "Locking up" society's victims does nothing to further the purpose of justice. It still uses power to put one group over another, and to punish that other group rather than pursuing the deep and sometimes painful reforms that are needed to address root causes.

More police is not the solution to crime. Eliminating poverty is the solution to crime, and eliminating poverty requires the replacement of the supremacist, patriarchal and capitalist structures that create and perpetuate poverty. Fighting white supremacy, patriarchy and predatory capitalist ideology are what is needed to solve these problems. More cops without real reform and rebuilding will just compound the problems the Black community in particular face.

Most homicides are committed by a relatively small group of individuals that are gang affiliated and have lengthy rapsheets as do most of their victims.

I think research into Chiraq crime states had roughly 2-3k of people were responsible for a mass of shootings and deaths in Chicago. Probably something similar to those in professional shoplifting rings in California.

Pretty much. A similar mandated study of racial disparity on traffic violations and tickets back years ago indicated the same--disparity in tickets by race were caused by a higher offense rate by race.

That's a whole other conversation. Her family were rich landowners in Haiti and actually owned slaves (or de facto slaves) well after the Civil War ended here. I always asked "what color were these slaves?" You know the answer. After the Haitian revolt, the white slaveowners were killed or driven off, only to be replaced by black slaveowners. The owners changed, but the slaves stayed the same.

That's about as centrist a position as you can have.

He also has contracted with the US government to provide satellites under their control to do with as they please.

What ultimately going to happen is that someone, probably the Russkies or ChiComs, are going to begin obliterating LEO satellites soon.

That's gonna make a real mess of things, as would an underwater attack on internet infrastructure, which is on the table as per Russian MOD.

I recently read a pretty well-researched piece that Trevor Dupuy's finding was not all that factual. His claim was that only about 1/4 of infantrymen in combat ever fired their weapons, but it was based on a handful of interviews that didn't capture much of a representative sample, and he didn't publish it until several years after WWII was over. It didn't track most people's experience, but it fit the need at the time for money for weapons and training, so the Army kind of ran with it. The big missing piece of context was that a whole lot of them didn't have anything to shoot at, but if they did, they were certainly willing to.

Snipers are a different story. It is actually pretty hard to find soldiers who will shoot a person who isn't actively engaged in combat.

If you care to read more about it, Col Grossman actually has more sources than Dupuy. There are similar accounts of being battle shy and that an overwhelming number of green troops had higher death rates for a number of reasons than experienced troops.

As Bill Hickok put it, there were other faster than him and probably just as good a marksman as him but he was willing to pull the trigger and they hesitated.

I saw an interview with a military historian who made the point that in WWI most attacker deaths were about 100 yards from the enemy trench. Why?

By nature the attackers would get to the last "safe" area and stop and skirmish.

If a few of the attackers when were brave enough to charge the last distance the attackers would win easily ( because they had major numbers advantages) but if no one was brave enough to lead the charge over the last distance the attackers would fade out.

I suspect that it's more important that the really thick barbed wire entanglements were about 100 yards out. Slow the attackers down to give the machine guns time to work.

The only way to really get through the wire was the rolling barrage, but you had to get EXTREMELY close to the barrage for it to be effective. You'd typically lose about 10-20% of your troops to your own artillery, if you did it right. But it would also keep the enemy buttoned up in their bunkers while you crossed the last 100 yards, which were the most deadly.

That musing actually happened with one of Germany's top generals. Forget his name but he retired as chief of general staff before 1939. He had the right to appear before Hitler with his sidearm and he later mentioned that he knew he should have taken it out and shot Hitler dead but as a devoutly religious, he simply could not do it when he was able.

I recently read a pretty well-researched piece that Trevor Dupuy's finding was not all that factual. His claim was that only about 1/4 of infantrymen in combat ever fired their weapons, but it was based on a handful of interviews that didn't capture much of a representative sample, and he didn't publish it until several years after WWII was over. The big missing piece of context was that a whole lot of them didn't have anything to shoot at, but if they did, they were certainly willing to.

I think you might be talking about S.L.A. Marshall, nit Depuy. Marshall wrote that there were more shooters in Korea, but still a large number of non-firers.

This is a long-studied problem domain and spans wider than infantry combat. I refer you to "Killers, Fillers, and Fodder" (terms in use over the decade plus I was an infantry squad leader and my career leading up to that), by Thomas Horner. He was writing about M1 crews.

My ice cream scoop of anecdata: characteristics that I observed in soldiers who I and peer leaders rated as "killers" closely tracked with Horner's list. (1)

Even worse, maybe he was the best of a bunch of shitty options. Maybe Ludendorff finds someone else to support in the '20s that has even more genocidal tendencies, and is actually a competent strategist.
