Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

Attachment-1 (3).jpg

(H/T CBD)

***

Good morning and welcome to the 1st Saturday of August. After last Saturday (You know who you are) we are back to posting a few friendly behavioral requests.

1) Opine and/or bloviate away in this Open Thread.
2) Be kind to one another. 'Ettes hair is off limits.
3) Don't forget your insurance card if you choose to run with sharp objects.
4) Have a wonderful weekend.

***

If you like a certain coffee flavoring you might be shit out of luck.

INTERNATIONAL Delight has confirmed that a fan-favorite flavor has been axed from the shelves.

The coffee creamer company is one of the most prominent brands seen in grocery stores – competing with Nestle-owned Coffee-Mate.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

7/7 – Misanthropic Humanitarian asked for prayers for his friend, Lonesome Ed. He has knee issues and will be undergoing surgery later this month.

7/8 Update – Jewell’s niece went in for her second infusion treatment, but they couldn’t do it because she had a UTI. She’s so depressed. The doctors will probably make some changes to her drugs, since she has felt so awful.

7/8 – Tuna said she could use some prayers. Her husband passed away on 7/8.

7/8 – LenNeal posted some updates that he has serious heart damage after having Covid multiple times and the J&J vax.

7/8 – RedMindBlueState requested prayers for his oldest childhood friend (and occasional lurker), whose wife has colon cancer. They don’t know what stage or treatment yet, but could use prayers.

7/8 – Emmie asked for prayers. Her husband is having a pacemaker implanted on Tuesday. She asks for prayers for a successful procedure, a full recovery, and improved energy and function.
7/22 Update – Emmie’s husband’s pacemaker surgery went well and he recovered quickly. His doctor has suggested quite a few medications, which may not all be appropriate, so they plan to get a second opinion on that.

7/13 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for Dr. M and his medical team, for his upcoming heart surgery.

7/14 – Inogame asked for prayers for health for his wife and her developing condition. He also sends thanks for the Horde’s prayers for his wife in the past.

7/15 – Polliwog asked for prayers for her son (age 23) who is suddenly losing weight and might have diabetes. However, his son will not see a doctor or even discuss the subject. He also could be depressed – he has been ghosting his fiancé. Prayers for his fiancé (who is understandably hurt) and for him, that he would let people help him.

7/15 – Vmom asked for prayers for her husband, that God may lead him to our Lord Jesus Christ.

7/15 – Coelacanth sent thanks for the prayers of the Horde for his son Cam, who has returned to the family and has graduated from a very tough Masters program. However, he was recently diagnosed with POTS (Positional Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). His balance is off and he gets winded on a short flight of stairs. He has faith that this is all still part of God’s plan.

7/22 – Donna&&&&& would appreciate prayers, as she found out she has breast cancer. It was caught early and is slow-growing, so she is optimistic.

7/22 – Dash my lace wigs posted that she and her husband could use some prayers. He had an incident involving too much drink, too many stairs, too much anger, and The Law. He is on court-ordered sobriety, and she thanks Jesus for that, but sees a long and difficult recovery ahead. She prays that he succeeds, and that she will have the strength to stand with him through it.

7/24 – The DMV MGC is requesting Moron prayers that strength, endurance, and peace may be granted to blaster, sra blaster, and her sister, as they face a rough family situation that several others among the horde are currently facing as well as others that have already faced, or will eventually, face. Sra blaster’s mother is not doing well either physically or emotionally and is also suffering from dementia/Alzheimer’s. She is being cared for by both her daughters right now in Florida and very dependent upon them but needs healing and home care (which is hard to come by in Florida). Prayers for her recovery and ability to resume some level of independent living would be appreciated.

7/29 – Village Idiot’s Apprentice updated the Horde on the good news of his dad’s recovery. On 7/22, he was non-verbal and incapable of controlled muscle movement. He could still communicate with facial expressions and his eyes. On 7/29, he packed up his walker, folded and loaded his clothes and announced he was ready to go home. It looks like he had sepsis that knocked him loopy, as well as the UTI.

7/29 – Thefritz asked for prayers for his son-in-law and his daughter, P.R.T and C.G.T. His son-in-law found a lump in a testicle and the doctors have ordered surgery. They have been trying to get pregnant and recently miscarried. They have been married less than two years, so this has left them fearful for his life and a future with biological children. Thefritz asks, “Dear Lord, please bring healing and calm to them. Give them strength together to deal with this. In Jesus’ name, I pray.” He also thanks the Horde in advance for their healing prayers.

8/3 – Tonypete asked for prayers for his friend Mike, who suffers from bone cancer and the disease has reached the end stages. Mike is very low and probably cannot hang on much longer. Prayers are also requested for his dear wife Judy. She has been a magnificent caregiver throughout Mike’s troubles. She is terrified that the final days have arrived and, as a very private person, it is very difficult for her to share her worries with anyone.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

10 Most of those coffee creamers with flavor, and flavored coffees, wind up being too cloying for me. I'd rather just pop some sweetener into the black coffee.

I've taken to keeping a tall mug of coffee in the refrigerator. The leftover brew from the coffeemaker goes in there. When I get up, or feel like a cold pick-me-up, the coffee is right there.

When and if it does get cold here, I may or may not continue the practice.

20 Posted in the Tech Thread by mistake:

This morning I shaved with a blade new to me (Personna) in my excellent Fatip Slant safety razor. On top of that I used a soap I haven't employed in a while. No irritation or nicks, but the blade and razor did not glide along my face the way I like. Tomorrow I'll try the same blade and razor with a good cream and see if it was the soap, the blade, or what.

You mean the "contorting your face into shapes you'd never want other people to see" method? Yeah, and a little skin stretching too. I hope it's the soap -- Erasmic, though it's always been quite slippery in the past. In recent months creams like Tabac, Palmolive, and Proraso seem to work better for me than soaps do.

64 I think it was three or four years ago we didn't really have an Autumn. Even the leaves on the trees didn't turn color, they just dropped off from the lack of rain and the heat. It wasn't until November that we saw temperatures that looked like "fall." And zero snow to speak of that winter. But the following year was the polar opposite.

In the 'before times' we called this... 'weather.'

Yes. It just seems that a lot of the new generation of cops are really $h!tty. Some of it is, I'm sure, taking the cue of their Donk-dominated city leadership.

The way that Watertown P.D. Sergeant came rushing up and yanking that microphone out of the hand of a clean-cut kid reading from the Bible makes my blood boil. Even if it was a Noise Violation (which I kind of doubt), all that Sergeant had to do was tell the kid to shut off the amplifier and issue a citation. Instead, he had to act like a complete a$$hole and have the kid physically arrested.

I think that one act will probably have more negative repercussions for police officers than the Powers-That-Be expect. The passage that apparently set-off the cops was quoting Jesus Christ.

71 Our Father in heaven, we know when we come to you that you already know what we'll ask for. Nonetheless, we ask, and we know that your will is going to be done. We ask this day that the healing needed be granted to us if it's your will. Just give us the faith to place our steps where you have preordained us to go, safe in the knowledge that your will is good for us.
In Christ's name,
Amen

89 I sent an email yesterday to the Chief of the Watertown, WI, Police Dept. concerning that kid that got arrested reading the Bible at a "Family Friendly" Drag Show. I told him that I was shocked by what I saw; I asked why it was necessary for a physical arrest of a Noise Violation ordinance? I told him that the video showed that his Sergeant clearly escalated the situation by grabbing that kids microphone without any warning. I didn't understand why a citation wasn't issued.

To me it seemed that hearing that Jesus commands us to "love our neighbors as ourselves" was too much for his thugs. They were pretty tough against a couple of clean-cut Christian kids, but I assumed that he would let Antifa burn his city to the ground and order his officers to abandon the citizens like cowards.

I told him in that choosing between protecting children from groomers and pedophiles, or his paycheck, he chose to protect his paycheck. I warned him that his agency has sided with the minions of Satan, and their immortal souls were in grave danger. I told him that I doubted Jesus Christ would be very sympathetic since he taught that, "whatever you do to the least of mine, you do to me."

106 We'd visit my grandmother twice a week after school, about an hours ride away.
Gram would make a really large glass percolator of coffee in the morning, would only drink a small six ounce cup or two, and the pot would sit on the side of the stove over the pilot light for the several hours to our arrival.
Then the five of us at the time, ages 4 and a half to eleven or so, would each get a cup of black sludge cut with whole milk and a substantial amount of sugar.
Then the kids would be sent out to run around and howl like banshees for a couple of hours while my mother and grandmother had a nice visit.
Good times.

It's a weak argument.

Municipal police vary widely because so do the governments that support them. Dysfunctional city = dysfunctional cops.

Conversely, if there is a healthy interaction between citizens, government and the police, problems will be few and far between.

There's also the work environment - while we may laugh at Barney Fife, there's a lot of cops who would relish policing Mayberry. The ones who stick it out in hellish jurisdictions are either raw recruits or weirdos who get off on the violence.

165 It's a weak argument.

Municipal police vary widely because so do the governments that support them. Dysfunctional city = dysfunctional cops.
Conversely, if there is a healthy interaction between citizens, government and the police, problems will be few and far between.
[ . . . ]
Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at August 05, 2023 10:00 AM (llXky)

This is the issue, though. There is little feedback between the citizens and the cops, it is all cops and city. From my experience the most dysfunctional cities have the most dysfunctional ruling class that care more about their social engineering and equity theories than the do about property crime and assault. In that situation the cops that stick it out are not there for public safety and are willing to carry out the actions of the management. If the solution is "fix the system" then I can see some flaws in that proposal.
Since this is what goes on, and property rights are being neglected, we are going to get private police anyways.

You are aware that there are probably more private police than government police already?

173 They say lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place. I say it does.

When we moved into this place there was a tree in the front yard that obviously had been hit by lightning some time ago. The very first spring thunderstorm we had after moving in had a bolt of lightning hit that tree again. Rattled every window so bad I thought they'd shatter. Knocked a wall clock off the wall. But did not damage the house.

I had a tamarack tree uproot this spring, on the edge of my lower wet area/meadow. I was cutting it up yesterday evening in 6+foot tall grass. The 8 month old puppy decided that was a good time to play. She ambushed me from behind several times while I was cutting. After several stern scoldings, she snuck back into the grass and waited. As soon as I shut the saw off, it was ambush time again.

YES! It is so easy today to think of disappointments, things we want but don't get while ignoring the many and profound blessings staring us in the face.

God loves us, but that does not mean we will not face hardship. Many times, these are the way God calls us to repent, to refocus on Him, orient to His will, and put aside our petty agendas.

We focus on politics, obsess over social media and which stuff shirt said what, and ignore the big picture. No about of sick burns or online hot takes will change things for the better. It is only through prayer and action with God that these things will happen.

I had plans for this year, plans that lie in ruins. And yet, such blessings replaced them! Not what I wanted, and the quicker I got over my pride and embraced what I was given, the happier I became. On that note, time to do chores! Hopefully I'll be able to make the book thread tomorrow, but if not, see everyone next week!

Not sure.
The two who've had it the worst hadn't had covid before, both vaxxed and boosted several times. One other has a young family and it seems like their immune systems have been wrecked - the young kids are constantly ill with flu, rsv, hand and mouth disease, cholera, whatever. It's so sad.
I had a bad case of the omicron and I assume natural immunity from it? The other person is 70+ and got another booster last week (may be her 4th???).

306 My aunt and uncle's home was hit twice by lightning. Not exactly in the same place, but close enough. Once it coursed through the house and allegedly knocked the shoes off my aunt who was sitting in a recliner.

I look around our place, it's open space on a small knoll surrounded by crop land and a few tree stands that delineate old property lines or existing ones that separate fields from private property. In those tree lines are no less than 4 trees hit by lightning. All in a neat circle around us. All dead.

Using a lightning rod, a tall building with lightning arresters or something else to attract lightning is one thing. To have it hit in more or less the same spot is statistically remote, but not impossible.

And being on this little knoll with pretty good lines of sight except to the west we see all sorts of weather induced phenomenon.

Biden's team has decided to cut funding for schools with shooting and archery clubs. We've got community sponsors, but I don't know if the club can go private.

Ukraine is so fucking bizarre. It is like this weird religious/fetish/grift thing for these people.

I can understand people's reactions to covid. This might be the one time in 48 years that I CANNOT understand what these people are thinking. If it was all graft, then why the pilgrimages? I dunno. Kabuki? Keeping up the charade? Bilking the rubes? Yes?

314 Our political class has a lot of money invested and being laundered through Ukraine. *biden, and likely by extension, Obama, are neck deep in the corruption. So's all of congress. It's in their best interests to maintain "interest" in the country else they get outed.

Z-man has our government by the proverbial balls. So does China, but by different means.

Hell, for that matter the number of foreign governments that have some level of control over ours numbers in the dozens. If not more.

315 It's the "grants" that are restricted. Education grants are a big scam, frankly. You can get a grant for LGBTwhatever club or fund an activist group's pre-packaged program, but tough luck if the kids want a club that fits the community.

317 I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning sixteen thousand US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just using this website... www.Payathome7.com

318 The "cheery flowers" are hibiscuses, which I grow in abundance at our home here on the Florida Treasure Coast. We just got home from almost two months away, and our vincas in the backyard are running completely amuck. I am amazed at their ability to thrive without anyone around to water or feed them.

319 Gavin Newsom is a joke. He has destroyed San Francisco and then he destroyed CA. The Hannity interview showed you how stupid, unprepared, and lazy Hannity is. So they kept stupid, unprepared, and lazy guy a week after Tucker landed an interview with Elon Musk? What's at play here?
