Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

coffee eee.jpg

(H/T KT)

***

Good morning Horde. Grab yourself a beverage and kick back for awhile.

Just remember a couple of the standing rules here.

1) Opine and/or bloviate away as this is an open thread.
2) Be nice to the 'Ettes, remember one carries a shiv.
3) Running with sharp objects is a voluntary exercise. Choose caution.
4) Have an enjoyable weekend.

Interesting facts about coffee. You be the judge!

Your Genes Might Determine How Much Coffee You Drink

Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world. In 2020, the average American coffee drinker downed more than three cups per day, and Americans overall drank 517 million daily cups. First introduced to America in the mid-17th century, coffee grew in popularity after the Boston Tea Party of 1773, which encouraged patriots to swap over-taxed tea for coffee. In the time since, soldiers have relied on coffee to boost morale overseas, children of U.S. Presidents have founded their own coffee houses, and American coffee brands have expanded across the globe. Can’t get enough coffee? Discover six amazing facts you might not know about this beloved morning beverage.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

6/24 – Jewell’s niece is not handling the chemo well. She has been very sick since last Tuesday. Jewells was also sick most of last week, after radiation and chemo.
7/8 Update – Jewell’s niece went in for her second infusion treatment, but they couldn’t do it because she had a UTI. She’s so depressed. The doctors will probably make some changes to her drugs, since she has felt so awful.

6/20 – J requested a prayer for her younger son Matt, whose seizure symptoms are returning again after 20 years of normalcy. So far he has not had a full-blown seizure, and the doctors are working to adjust his medication. But he can feel them in the background and they are interfering with his ability to do his job. Also, his second child is due in September.

6/24 – Fox2! asked for prayers as he had to spend the week in the hospital with AFIB.

6/24 – Screaming in Digital asked for prayers for an old friend, who was fighting cancer. The latest news was not good, but he is still receiving treatment.

6/24 – RetSgtRN asked for prayers for her son-in-law, Kenny, who at 37 is battling acute leukemia. He beat lymphoma 2 years ago. He has 2 boys, ages 3 and 7. He is also a police officer in a very large city and fortunately his boss has been supportive. Thanks to all for your prayers!
7/1 Update – Kenny is in remission. Now he will begin treatments for his bone marrow transplant, which will require him to remain in the hospital for 100 days, including part of it in isolation.

6/27 – Catch Thirty-Thr33’s father will return home from the hospital, and he will be visited by a hospice nurse twice a week. He is 82 now and has been fighting lung cancer for 18 months now. Please pray for him.
7/10 Update – Catch Thirty-Thr33’s father passed away today.

7/1 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for the woman that she is running with for township committee. The woman is having bad digestive pain.

7/1 – rhennigantx asked for prayers for his buddy Jason, who lost a good friend to an overdose. Jason is very angry at a (so called) friend who gave the other friend the drugs.

7/1 – JM in Fla/III asked for prayers for his brother and sister-in-law, who are struggling with their adult son; he is schizophrenic but does not always take his medicine.

7/4 – neverenoughcaffeine asked for prayers for Tom, Andy, and Wilson. Their wife and mom Yumiko died in a freak accident on Sunday and Tom was severely injured.

7/7 – Misanthropic Humanitarian asked for prayers for his friend, Lonesome Ed. He has knee issues and will be undergoing surgery later this month.

7/8 – Tuna said she could use some prayers. Her husband passed away on 7/8.

7/8 – LenNeal posted some updates that he has serious heart damage after having Covid multiple times and the J&J vax.

7/8 – RedMindBlueState requested prayers for his oldest childhood friend (and occasional lurker), whose wife has colon cancer. They don’t know what stage or treatment yet, but could use prayers.

7/8 – Emmie asked for prayers. Her husband is having a pacemaker implanted on Tuesday. She asks for prayers for a successful procedure, a full recovery, and improved energy and function.

7/13 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for Dr. M and his medical team, for his upcoming heart surgery.

7/14 – Inogame asked for prayers for health for his wife and her developing condition. He also sends thanks for the Horde’s prayers for his wife in the past.

7/15 – Polliwog asked for prayers for her son (age 23) who is suddenly losing weight and might have diabetes. However, his son will not see a doctor or even discuss the subject. He also could be depressed – he has been ghosting his fiancé. Prayers for his fiancé (who is understandably hurt) and for him, that he would let people help him.

7/15 – Vmom asked for prayers for her husband, that God may lead him to our Lord Jesus Christ.

7/15 – Coelacanth sent thanks for the prayers of the Horde for his son Cam, who has returned to the family and has graduated from a very tough Masters program. However, he was recently diagnosed with POTS (Positional Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). His balance is off and he gets winded on a short flight of stairs. He has faith that this is all still part of God’s plan.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

2 Good morning everyone. Thanks MisHum.

Verse for the Day:

"Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, 'Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.' Saying this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, 'Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?' Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, 'Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.' 'Jesus said to her, 'Mary.' She turned and said to him in Hebrew, 'Rab-bo'ni!' (which means Teacher)...Mary Magdalene went and said to the disciples, 'I have seen the Lord'!"

17 Morning, Horde...How goes it?

Just got back from the store. I'm pretty sure the woman in front of me in the checkout line had her cell phone permanently glued to her face.

All during her transaction with the cashier to the point where she got into her car, the phone never left the side of her face.

37 Today-by S.N:

I know that the world is several versions of mad right now, Pessimism and grimness sometimes seem like the only responsible choices. I wake up and worry about the world we're creating for our children and grandchildren. That's why I'm making a shameless appeal for celebration. I need optimism and celebration and hope [in God] in the face of violence, despair and anxiety.

The only option as I see it, is a delicate weaving of action and celebration. Let's act, protect, raise our voices. learn, advocate for, fight against and for, but let's be careful that in [doing] all that, we don't [miss] a world that still is teeming with beauty and hope and God's redemption all around us, right now, today.

Remembering those on the Prayer List

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. 53 Morning all.
Prayer for all asking and those who need it and not asking.

Trying to work back through years of neglect on the part of the maintenence department.
I have located so far around 200 grand in unused replacement parts.
Not including the complete Robot I found that nobody seems to know anything about.
Of the molds I found for the merry go round horse heads. There are 2.5 of them. One mold is missing half and one is a set and makes the head then neck and... tail, I think.
Anyway somehow despite me not wanting anything to do with maintenence I still wound up with the job of running the department. There is nobody there with anywhere near my qualifications so I got the job. Despite me already having a full time job pushing paper, receiving orders and maintaining inventory.

So this week a thing I joked about during an argument with the idiot who thinks he runs the department that I would become his boss so I could fire him has come true. Now I kind of like the guy so I'll keep him.
Keeping him around to fix his slacker BS is far more punishment than kicking him down the road.

66 Fen, I'm a past master at dealing with diverticulitis. It was so bad I had to go in for IV AB infusions. I was miserable and don't ever want to go through that again.

I learned some things along the way that have kept me pain-free for ten years now. First, the pain is caused by an infected diverticulum (pocket) and it will stop if you can work the infection out. Yes, you can. You simply press hard into the stomach where it hurts (it may hurt more for a second but will stop immediately) and work the pressure along the path of the colon. That will ease whatever is causing the infection along. The relief is instant. Second, I lost a hundred pounds and that's what finally got rid of the problem entirely. My colon worked a lot better when it wasn't surrounded by mountains of fat.

You knew us from the beginning, our bodies, our frailties, weaknesses, and our habits. We realize the path You have placed before us may be rough and scary in places. Please Lord, hold our hand in those places, and cause us to be thankful for the level sunny stretches. We confess our sins and repent, resting on Your promise of forgiveness, and thank You for many blessings already bestowed.
In Christ's name,
Amen

95 Thanks! Yes, I have family support, grammie. And there are medical people in the family who tell me that since it's Stage 1, it's very treatable.

Breast cancer does not run in our family (other kinds of cancer does) and I am feeling fine, there were no lumps or pains or anything like that, so I wasn't expecting anything to turn up after my mammogram. 'Ettes, do not put off getting mammograms like I did last year (because who likes being made into a boob sandwich?) If not for the mammogram, I would have no idea the cancer is there.

Made me think about all those generations who lived without benefit of mammograms, ultrasound, colonoscopies, etc. They went on their merry way until one day they were suddenly very sick. Many probably had no idea whatsoever of what they were dying of. So - as much as modern times suck in many ways, we are also very fortunate.

my wife suffered from more than 30 years of diverticulitis attacks that were very debilitating. But she was adamant that she would not accept a surgical treatment until she had Medicare. Last summer she had the worst attack ever, while on a solo trip back to Arkansas from NC. It hit her in Atlanta, and it then took her more than a week to return as she wad only able to travel a few hours a day.
Well, she got covered, found a wonderful surgeon who was getting into robotic surgery ... and had bowel resection surgery 6 months ago. It went exceptionally well and the results are outstanding. She can eat without fear now and isn't in constant pain. I do wish she'd have agreed to have the surgery years ago, but c'est la vie

I had that book too! And just about every other book written by Marguerite Henry, God bless her. In fact, I wrote her a fan letter (complete with a drawing of a horse) and mailed it to her publisher. About 6 months later, I got a letter from her. She apologized for the delay and said that my letter had reached her while she and her husband were in the process of moving to California. I think there is a clear lesson insofar as our unparalleled material comfort is making us miserable and we're literally killing ourselves in despair.

We got fat, happy and stupid and turned away from God. Not only have we turned from Him, we sit in judgement on Him. The whole concept of transgenderism imagines God as some bored assembly line worker, carelessly putting the wrong soul in the wrong body. That major religious bodies now endorse this shows how far we have fallen.

It is hard to accept death and illness as the will of God, but if we accept that He is the origin of goodness and love, we have no other choice. Indeed, we should ask ourselves: "What is God teaching me in this?" Perhaps it's just to treasure what we have. I am supremely blessed to have had a near-death experience. It taught me to savor all good things and also accept that our time here is very short. Every day is a gift.

174 Thanks, friends, for your prayers. Mr. Bassman is recovering well and feels more energetic. Our current puzzle is why his cardiologist wants to pile on the medications. His blood is not sludgy, his blood pressure and ejection fraction is in the healthy range. He had an AFib event in the 12 hours after surgery, but AFib has never shown up in any of his weeks of heart monitoring, nor has it since the day after surgery.

So we're going to try a second opinion.

No we don't, Dash. My theory is I am never where I want to or am supposed to be. I am always where I am needed.
My problem is two maybe three fold. When I fix Maint I will hopefully fix HR, we can't keep anybody because everything is messed up and doesn't work.
I'm at a point of demanding more money but it isn't there (I see the books) so no point but what they want I am woefully underpaid to perform.
So I sort of have a significant portion of the weight of the world on my back for chump change. I do fine but...

It's very annoying how doctors are so unwilling to admit making mistakes. It's part of the arrogance of the elites.

My wife was misdiagnosed for 20+ years and only last month did the "experts" collectively slap their foreheads and realize it.

Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at July 22, 2023 10:12 AM (llXky)

201 Aye, twas a rough day yesterday.

Dad went home from rehab on Thursday, not because he was good to go, but because Medicare wasn't going to pay anymore.

We have arranged for a home health care org to come in and give assistance daily and eventually, the VA will take the cost. The care nurse comes in, gets him situated and starts helping around the house. She finds bed bugs in the bedroom. Out. They can't return until the bugs are gone and a pest control company signs off on it.

We spent yesterday gutting the house where we could and spraying and treating anywhere they're seen. All of the living room furniture is now outside baking in the Texas sun, to be taken to the curb.

It's horrible to know that your parents (dad and step-mom) have digressed so far, they're not even cleaning the slightest bit. Wife did the vacuuming and said it looked like it'd been over a year since that had been done. My step-sister stayed there a couple months ago and seeming didn't do a thing while there.

The bed bugs were there a while ago, but the company that treated seemingly reneged on the contract by declaring "you must've reintroduced the bugs" and didn't come back out to retreat.

202 Not that anyone is surprised, but the FBI also hid that they had a SECOND trusted source who (independently) told them of the Burisma payments to Joe and Hunter Biden,

This means that before the election, the FBI had

~~ two independent trusted sources,
~~the laptop email and text exchanges,
~~the money trail and bank reports of suspicious money flows,
~~and direct, sworn testimony from Hunters business partner Tony Bobulinski

ALL reporting the bribes, and yet the FBI did nothing and still have done nothing. What conclusion is possible, other than the obvious, that the FBI/DOJ conspired treasonously against our country?

While I avoid the news, I've noticed that everything the state-run media says about Russia actually applies to us. Our economy, not theirs, is in freefall. Our military, not theirs, is crumbling. Our prestige, not theirs, is in tatters.

And of course our government, not theirs, is clinging to power and living every day in fear of a rebellion.

Lots of displacement and projection going on.

Biden has managed to forge a coalition between Iran, Russia, China, India and the Arabs against us.

Now mean feat, that.

We're trying to pick a fight with Iran because Biden needs some sort of victory, and the Pentagon has been wanting this fight for 40+ years.

We'll lose, of course, but that goes without saying.

It's the petrodollar. All this talk nowadays about digital currency, it's an attempt to stave off the efforts of these strange bedfellows coalitions of nations that want to end the petrodollar's dominance in the international oil biz.

I'm thinking the blowing up of the pipeline was the last straw for many of these countries. Imagine once Germany makes the grand announcement they're part of a new coalition. America really WILL have a formidable enemy that can end up. Instead of that just being a line our government tells us to justify all the killing we do around the world.

Years ago, I worked for a company that was partly owned by John Hancock. I signed up for LTC as part of my benefits package. After we were bought by another company, I kept getting and paying annual invoices for the LTC even though all my other benefits were coming from the new company. I asked other colleagues whether they were paying for the John Hancock LTC and they had no idea what I was talking about. After a few years I finally called John Hancock and they confirmed that it’s a live policy and that I’m lucky to have it. I pay $132 per year for it.
