"What Happened to Philadelphia?"

Look upon the horrors that Democrat rule of cities has made:

Lisa Elizabeth
@Lisaelizabeth
Yes this is real. It's Kensington & Allegheny. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

They are on heroin, fentanyl and tranq. The tranq causes such bad flesh wounds you can see exposed bone on many. Rehabs won't take people with open wounds so they keep using and wounds get worse.

The city and our Soros backed DA does nothing. Instead they fund needle exchange and free needle programs where users take handfuls of clean needles and sell them for more drugs.

But that's not all they are abducting women, prostitution is rampant, assault, theft, murder are all on the rise.

No, the insane open air drug use isn't everywhere but is is spreading. Junkies are all over Market and Chestnut street in Center City.

However, unrelated crime is up everywhere even in the "good areas." We are seeing daily murders, carjackings, and growing home invasions in Society Hill and Queen Village. Shootings in RFK park and on South Street in daylight. Just two days ago a man was caught on camera stealing packages in Fairmount with a machete.

Don't think it's going to get any better. This is the norm in cities run by democrats for generations. Even the GOP here is corrupt. If this is what the people want is it even worth saving?

A very popular drug is "tranq," which causes unimaginable wounds to the human body. A bacteria called necrotizing fascitis is spread by injecting tranq, and it necrotizes flesh worse than any cobra bite.

It's like these people had their limbs held in concentrated hydrochloric acid for a half hour. She links pictures of the ravages it makes of the body. Content warning: It makes people look like medical dolls used for showing the insides of muscles and organs.

See this Instagram account for more horrors.

We're being kind and generous and "caring" by letting schizophrenic people literally dissolve their bodies with acidic narcotics. Aren't we?

Michael Schellenberger, author of San Fransicko, and a powerful critic of the left's culture of killing dressed up as a culture of caring, discusses the left's ideology here.

He makes two big points:

The term "homelessness" is a lie. It is intended to deceive. The left uses this term to suggest that the problem is a shortage in housing. Of course, that's not true at all. Homelessness is the result of the problem, not the problem itself.

The problem is that these people are all very mentally-unwell, often schizophrenic, or are addicted to drugs that make earning an income or even staying in an apartment impossible. Many are both: They are using drugs to self-medicate their insanities.

He points out that many of these people were permitted to couch-surf in the homes of their friends and family -- until their determination to inject heroin every single day, and to steal from their benefactors to pay for their drugs -- caused them to finally be kicked out by everyone.

The left wants to pretend that these people are all merely victims of circumstance, rather than of their own conscious choices. That's a lie. They don't want to admit that this has anything to do with conscious choices because if it does, then they'll have to agree that an intervention is called for.

This is the second major point Shellenberger makes. He says there are three stages of drug rehabilitation: Intervention, treatment, and recovery. The left loves talking up the latter two elements but will not acknowledge the first, indispensable step of intervention.

That's because intervention consists of others forcing -- or at least pressuring -- someone to make changes that they're unable to or unwilling to. And the left categorizes people into two groups: Victims, and oppressors. If you're an oppressor, Shellenberger notes, everything may be demanded of you and nothing should be given to you.

But if you're a victim, then everything should be given to you, and nothing can be asked of you, ever. You cannot ask a "victim" to stop doing drugs in exchange for a taxpayer-funded apartment. No, you must just give them free housing, and cannot ever ask them to change their decisions that leave them as dependents on the state.

He notes a woman he knew who had been hospitalized and given an emergency dose of Narcan after a fentanyl overdose. The moment she was out on the street -- a day or two after her near-fatal fentanyl overdose -- she was back on the street again, doing fentanyl.

He also mentions a drug-addicted woman whose legs had to be amputated due to the ravages caused by injecting drugs. That necrotizing fascities mentioned above.

He points out that the left will continue doing absolutely nothing to force -- or even nudge -- these people into stopping the behavior that is killing them, all the while patting itself on the back for showing so much "care" for these Precious Victims.

In reality -- I'm adding this -- their idea of "care" is just blind their eyes to the damage they cause and then sit in little Curated Bubbles where they can all stroke each other for being so "caring" as to allow schizophrenic women living on the street to keep injecting drugs into their legs until a doctor is forced to amputate them.

Anything, anything before telling a "victim" it's time to straighten her act out.

And so you get this. And the Woke Cultists all murmur together: "We are holy."

God save us from the evil Woke Cult that teaches its fanatics that doing substantive evil is holy.

If Homelessness is characterized as a first-order derivative of the problem, then the Leftists have come up with a new term that can be looked at as a second-order derivative of the problem, further obscuring any chances of solving it. They now call the homeless the 'unhoused'.

21 I will say that that part of Philadelphia is in the northeast and rather far from "Center City."

there are PLENTY of similar zombies in Center City itself now, however. I think (suspect?) that sometimes the ones who pop up in Center City or other nicer areas get moved up there tho.

at the same time the city keeps pushing for more methadone clinics and needle giveaways in nicer areas - especially South Philly, which Must Be Punished for not being liberal.

I know that the progressives do not like these words, but the "treatment" and "recovery stages" will involve something similar to jail/prison and a hardcore probation/parole element.

This is one possible upside to the tranq disaster, though it is a brutal calculus. Tranq is everywhere because it makes the drug cheaper. Some people do it on purpose, but lots of them are just fentanyl addicts that end up getting tranq instead. And it's spreading. If tranq is in your city, all fentanyl is likely to be tranq pretty quickly.

And it cannot be survived. Narcan can pull you back from death's door if you OD on fentanyl, but nothing can put you back together again if your flesh rots away. These people *will* die, wholesale, wherever tranq gets a foothold. And once that happens, the market will collapse and the problem will likely burn itself out - albeit at a fairly high blood price.

Incidentally, should you ever come in contact with such a person, the wounds are not contagious. So, that's nice to know I guess.

78 In the 80s and 90s in NYC, you'd read about a cluster of heroin overdoses over drugs with odd street names, like Death or something. Why? because addicts thought that if someone OD'd that the drugs must be great, so they'd seek them out for themselves. Twisted logic.

84 Detroit was arguably the wealthiest city on the planet never mind the U. States. Now the decline of Detroit can’t be entirely laid at the feet of leftist policies or Democrats - but it’s probably a distinction without a difference.

Our little midwestern burg still has boarded up, burned out buildings from 1968. Riots are incredibly long lasting in their effects. The areas never come back, practically speaking.

Similarly Argentina was once the 3rd wealthiest country on the planet. Then the levelist socialists showed up. They won’t be bouncing back anytime soon either.

When you see city leaders taking crime and looters seriously, regardless of party, there may be a glimmer of hope. If instead they are talking about how they are going to fine-tune the weather 100 years from now, know that you are well and truly fucked. Move away!

99 This is one possible upside to the tranq disaster, though it is a brutal calculus. Tranq is everywhere because it makes the drug cheaper. Some people do it on purpose, but lots of them are just fentanyl addicts that end up getting tranq instead. And it's spreading. As a follow-on to this, it will force prog government to do one of three things, none of which are easy to spin as good things:
1. Do nothing, let the Tranq run wild until it kills its users, and the problem burns out under weight of apathy
2. Get serious - very serious - about drug enforcement and send lots of people up for serious prison time, while the throwing the book squarely, directly and at full force at the Tranq dealers
3. Displace Tranq from the market by selling drugs itself, directly, so it can perform quality control and crowd Tranq out of the market by replacing it with directly government-dealt fentanyl

None of these are consistent with Prog ideals and processes, but door #1 is the easiest and so I suspect that will be what happens.

103 Ace, I think you and Schellenberger may be missing one key point: "homelessness" and rampant drug addiction are just two more ways Democrat politicians, the government leviathan, and their assorted remoras keep the money spigot flowing.

There is little money to be made in actually CURING disease or a social dysfunction. But there are piles of money to be made pretending to manage it, care about it, and address it -- always by spending more money on it, natch.

If Philly suddenly cleaned up its homeless and drug problem, tens of thousands of gov't and NGO workers would be out of business, the corrupt gravy train of billions of dollars would dry up, and probably a dozen agencies and NGOs would be obsolete. Never gonna happen.

Posted by: Elric Blade at July 21, 2023 03:25 PM (iFTx/)

104 And it cannot be survived.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at July 21, 2023 03:21 PM (t0OGg)
---
I honestly cannot imagine the spiral of agony those people are in when their flesh is melting. The only "cure" is more tranq, which leads to more open wounds, which then causes more agony, which requires more drugs to dull the pain. And so on until only death will release them from suffering.

This may be one of the most horrific ways to die I've ever heard of.

There was a guy in Lexington Kentucky that had been "revived" by the para medics with narcan over 20 times in less than three years. The City council was going to hold a vote to determine when enough was enough because narcan is expensive and has a relatively short shelf life. The pro drug people descended upon the city council meeting and started screaming and shouting they wanted to murder people, the TV news was there and it got ugly. This is old language, Jay. It's "houslessness" now.

155 This is one possible upside to the tranq disaster, though it is a brutal calculus. Tranq is everywhere because it makes the drug cheaper. Some people do it on purpose, but lots of them are just fentanyl addicts that end up getting tranq instead. And it's spreading. If tranq is in your city, all fentanyl is likely to be tranq pretty quickly.

This. The vast majority of tranq junkies didn't do it willingly. They bought garbage fentanyl that was cut with tranq to make it cheaper. They became so addicted to the toxic cocktail that they can't stop even as their body falls apart. That being said, they made their bed. They can sleep in it.

My solution would entail funneling money into mental health institutions, asylums even, and start putting these people in places where the underlying cause of their insanity can be treated. Funnel huge sums of money. Build the asylums, grift of that. Gin up medications for the insane, grift off that. And so on....

229 What/where is the origin of Tranq???
Posted by: Lizzy at July 21, 2023 03:36 PM (sYErV)
++++
"Tranq" usually refers to a cocktail. It consists of fentanyl and xylazine (an animal tranquilizer). The xylazine makes the fentanyl hit harder and faster, and also turns you into a zombie and makes your skin rot off.

The fentanyl virtually all comes from Red China, shipped in quantity to Latin America. There, the cartels move it El Norte for distribution in the United States, courtesy of our open border and Soros DAs.

The conversion of fentanyl to tranq can happen anywhere in the chain after the cartel takes possession of the fentanyl. It could be done by the cartel itself, by the aggregation hubs, by the local bosses or by the street dealers. The most likely point is the local bosses, since tranq floods specific markets (like Philadelphia, for example), as opposed to taking over at all once across the country.

Xylazine itself is produced in a lot of places. They do make it in Red China, since that country is a gigantic drug manufacturer.

But the street drug called "tranq" colloquially is not just xylazine. The fentanyl and the xylazine may both originate in Red China, but they needn't.

I doubt the Chinese are mixing the cocktail because street tranq is not geographically widespread yet. It's broken out in a big way, mostly in the mid-Atlantic cities but also in some others. If the fentanyl was being cut at the source (Red China), it should be universal by now since they produce virtually all of the street fentantyl available here.

It's the cartels doing the cutting/mixing and distribution, I think, and probably the local bosses.

297 For years, the Left has told us what is happening in Philadelphia, SF, Seattle, Portland, LA is first "not happening," then that it is "compassionate." They stopped prosecuting because of "compassion." They created safe spaces to show "compassion." They handed out paraphernalia to project "compassion." And now they tiptoe around unnavigable wastelands because "compassion" would suggest that showing disgust at the state of drugged out human refuse would immediately make them MAGA-aligned.

Compassion would be treatment facilities that work, a court system that didn't play into addicts' bullshit, a DEA more focused on drug trafficking than grandma's AR-15. To think that Philadelphia is the goal -- not the horribly mistaken outcome -- of liberal policies is becoming ever clearer.

We have a live in VA drug/alcohol rehab center in our town here in Bonham Texas. At times there are close to 100 people in the program, most of them are frequent flyers. They check in when they have no place left to go.

They usually stay a month or two and then leave the program. I personally know one guy that has been in the program six different times. He uses it as a de facto homeless shelter when he has no options left. That program does not have a good success rate, but it's mandated by Congress.

That would be odd, but I don't know much about SF. I know that with Fentanyl in general, most of the raw materials are made cheaply in China and then shipped to Mexico where the final product is made and sent by the cartels to the US.

And don't just blame the Chinese and Mexicans - a whole lot of our US officials are in on the payoffs from pretending not to notice how much is coming in. I would venture to guess that there are some entire police departments taking payoffs from this.

English and some French colonies were more that they moved there and stayed there and thus some of the money remained and improved the lives of the colonized. The US colonies were the latter sort.

Probably not. The studies and data on rehab are breathtaking: it usually takes a MINIMUM of six rehab attempts before it sticks. Sometimes more. The whole point is never to get addicted in the first place, obviously.

Usually it never works. Which is because people don't want to stop. You can break the physical withdrawal symptoms with medical help. So the inability to stop after rehab has nothing to do with physical addiction.

Rehab is paid for by many employers' EAP programs. They are universally failures - and not worth the money spent on them.

No, there is too much money in smuggling and selling, as well as the associated industries of prostitution and crime. There is also far too much money for helping street addicts, the homeless and the crazies so there is no real drive to solve any of these problems.
Then, the costs caused by them are so incredibly high no city or state government can deal with them, and that cuts into things the government wants to do with the money instead, like shower it on their friends and relatives.

It is the typical: declare a problem, make it worse, raise taxes, declare an emergency so normal restrictions don't apply, give money in big gobs to people who promise a solution . . . and so on.

Plus after 3-5 days they start decomposing and bits and pieces start falling off and they can no longer walk. Easy kills if you can find a hide out to last the first week.

Yeah, you have to sort of assume some supernatural element to keep the zombies rotting but never dissolving.

There ought to be more zombie movies about humans kicking zombie asses and working together, but the Leftists who make most movies don't do that.

I've done it more than once. It is a way to prosper, if you do it right. People think they are stuck, when they have all sorts of freedom.

Don't like your job? Find another one, doing something else. Too old to learn? Bullshit. No prospects where you are? Go to where there are.

Where you live is inconsequential if you can find prosperity and happiness.

If you're dealing with the numbers of random zombies you see in normal zombie movies, this would work fine. But if you had vast herds of zombies walking around and you didn't have an early enough response, they would be very hard to deal with.

There are something like 330,000,000 people in the US. Add in MX and Canada. If a herd of 10,000,000 zombies collected, no conventional weapon would stop them.

Saaayyyy, can't the federal government decide which cities get federal money and which don't?

Can't Congress set standards on how money is doled out to cities?

Like, crime rate has to be at X percent or no money. Get your effing criminals in jail and then we'll talk. If you go bankrupt, ask your state capital. If they don't have any money for you, we'll put you in receivership and make your governance decisions for you.

Often enough success means you quit taking advice and your own flaws come out.

I think this happened to George Lucas. The first series was mostly practical effects, the story was fairly tight and characters were varied and plotted out. There were some signs of revision as the OT went along but they were acceptable.

By the Prequels nobody would tell Lucas he was being dumb or he didn't listen. The fake effects limited the actors and the writing was bad.

Was it through Holt Adoption or another?

Girls were abandoned regularly after the Korean war, they were considered a drag. There were also a lot of children born out of wedlock, because prostitution is a way to eat. There were a lot of orphanages, and orphans were looked down on. If you talk to Korean orphans from the 60's and early 70's they spent time eating roots and leaves to fill out their rations.

How do they collect? They aren't rational, and barring violation of conservation of energy they gotta eat. Anyone dead in the continent is sealed in a coffin or tomb in days, and there's no stimuli to make a zombie want to break out if they could.

I didn't really think about it at the time, but yes, the kids were too young to be related to the actual war, but about a decade later. One of the cousins came to my sister's funeral about 10 years ago and I remembered her as a great tall person and she now comes up to about my shoulder.

463 Missed this afternoon. Where's the f*#king $ & services is the question. Always. Year in, year out.

WHYY/PBS - Philadelphia City Council approved a $6.2 billion dollar budget Thursday before leaving for summer recess.

The fiscal year 2024 budget, which now awaits Mayor Jim Kenney’s final signature, includes additional money for mental and behavioral health crisis response services.

“Over 200 Philadelphians each day seek mental health support,” said Councilmember Kendra Brooks, “and this funding will help ensure trained mental health providers will be able to respond to every call.”

This is the governor(s) & their irk, too. Shhh. Get on them for accountability & you'll be having 'problems' in your area, too.
